  • Lower motor neuron signs of hind limbs, anus and bladder were identified by history taking and physical examination in the 6.8 year-old mongrel dog and 2.6 year-old Cocker spaniel. The Cocker spaniel, also showed gradual cranial migration of neurologic deficit including respiratory paralysis. On plain radiography and myelography, intervertebral disc extrusion between L2 and L3, the infiltration of contrast medium into the spinal cord and cord swelling were found in the mongrel dog, and infiltration of contrast medium like hollowness of cord parenchyma was observed in the Cocker spaniel. On the basis of clinical signs and radiographic findings, they were diagnosed tentatively as acute myelomalacia. The Cocker spaniel died of respiratory paralysis on the following day. Decompressive surgery was performed on the mongrel dog and the extensive necrosis and hemorrhage were found at surgery. It was euthanized with the owner's consent because of the perceived poor prognosis. Histopathologic examination after autopsy confirmed acute diffuse hemorrhagic myelomalacia with the swelling and the inflammation of axon, showing hemorrhagic changes in the white matter and the grey matter.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm both geometric correction using a grid point image and radiometric adaptive projection that dependent upon the luminance of the input image and that of the background. This method projects and captures the grid point image then calculates the geometrically corrected position by difference between the two images. Next, to compensate color, a corrected image is calculated by the ratio divided luminance of an input image by luminance of arbitrary surface. In addition, we found the scaling factor which controls the contrast to avoid clipping error. At this time, the scaling factor is dependent on mean image lightness when background is determined. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves good performance and is able to reduce the perceived color clipping and artifacts, better approximating the projection on a white screen.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel hearing aid algorithm for sensorinural hearing loss restoration with multi-channel(band) dynamic range compression and psychoacoustics. In this way, we can present a normal perception condition to the impaired listener. The proposed algorithm make loudness scaling function achieve proper loudness level, and analysis masking property for the signal will be perceived to impaired listener, and then, restore normal spectral contrast using SMR(signal-to-masking ratio) defined by distance between the level of each frequency and masking threshold.

  • The purpose of this study is to design neckties that are motivated by Christmas symbol images that have been known to public most widely in the basis of Day marketing so as to develop the competitive commodities closed to consumers' emotion in the fashion industry. As a method of this study were to use Adobe Illustrator CS2, which is one of the vector graphic programs, to present the motif design such as Santa Claus, trees, presents and letters among Christmas symbols, and are to apply to neckties by giving a change with striped pattern, all over pattern and one point pattern. The results are as follows; Firstly, Santa Claus image was expressed by color contrast with red and white, which was perceived by red, green and white that are mostly used in Christmas. Secondly, tree images are expressed abstractly with color contrast where red and green are contrasted, and color way change was given for symbol color of Christmas. Third, in the image of gift, the image of share and image of colorfulness were considered for expression by making motifs of three dimensional hexahedron shape. Fourthly, in the image of type, motif was expressed by giving a change in horizontal and vertical writing types.

  • This paper presents two experiments examining different gemination behavior of English affixes. Experiment 1 focused on geminates through affixation with im-, un-, -ness, and -ly. The English group articulated geminates with longer absolute and relative durations than singletons for im-, un-, and -ness, but there was no difference for -ly. This suggests that -ly words are more likely to be perceived as whole words, and that -ly is less decomposable. Furthermore, un- geminates exhibited longer absolute and preceding vowel durations than im- geminates, suggesting that im- is more decomposable than un-. However, the Korean group produced geminates with longer absolute and relative durations than singletons for all im-, un-, -ness, and -ly, and produced comparable absolute durations of im- and un- geminates. Experiment 2 investigated different gemination behaviors of locative and negative im- prefixes. The English group showed durational contrast between geminates and singletons only for negative im-, indicating that locative im- is not easily separated from stem. However, the Korean group produced longer absolute and relative durations for geminates than for singletons for both locative and negative im-. According to the findings of Experiments 1 and 2, affix decomposability is less likely to influence Korean speakers' English affix gemination, and spellings may have a greater influence.

  • Organizational culture has been very important in the field of organizational behavior research for the past decade. Although there has been a growing interest in the organizational culture and organizational performance, there was few research in healthcare organizations. The objective of this study is to identify the relationship of organizational culture based on the Quinn's competing values approach, with job satisfaction and intention of turnover perceived by national hospital employees. The study setting was the national hospital. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires. The study sample consisted of 555 hospital employees. Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) analysis was conducted to find the causal relationship of organizational culture, job satisfaction and intention of turnover. The major results of this study are as follows: the consensual culture, rational culture, and developmental culture in national hospital showed a strong relationship with job satisfaction and intention of turnover in contrast to other previous studies. This finding showed that task oriented and human related climate is more effective on job satisfaction than hierarchical culture in national hospital settings.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify aging anxiety and influencing factors of middle-aged adults. Methods: Descriptive correlation design was used. Three hundred and three middle-aged adults participated in the study and completed the questionnaires in the period from September 11 to October 15 of 2011. The data was analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchial multiple regression analysis. Results: Aging anxiety of middle-aged adults was higher than a moderate level. Socio-demographic variables such as age, religion, education, economic level, perceived health status and experience of living with older adults influenced significantly on aging anxiety. In contrast, general self-efficacy, aging knowledge and attitude toward older adults were negatively correlated with aging anxiety. Hierarchial multiple regression analysis incorporating these variables showed an explanation rate of aging anxiety at 21%. And religion, perceived health status, attitude toward older adults, and general self-efficacy were statistically significant among variables that influence on aging anxiety. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that senior preparation programs that can enhance self-efficacy, induce positive attitude on older adults and promote health should be implemented to reduce aging anxiety of middle-aged adults.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore preservice elementary teachers' perceptions on models used in science and science education. Participants were sixty-one undergraduate students who were enrolled in a science education course offered at a university of education located in a mid-sized city, Korea. Data were obtained from the participants at the beginning of the course when they provided their answers to a questionnaire about models. The analysis revealed that a large number of the preservice teachers perceived models as representative of physical realities. By contrast, a relatively small number of them viewed models as representations of ideas or things like theories or hypotheses. Lots of the participants were apt to define a model from the perspective of its functions and considered the purposes of models communication, teaching, and understanding as well as visualization, simplification, and clarification. Most of the preservice teachers believed that there could be multiple models for a single target, and all of them answered that models could be changed in science. It was therefore concluded that the preservice teachers perceived properly the multiplicity and variability of models. Nevertheless, they could not elaborate how a model is used and evaluated in the process of scientific inquiry, and just a few of them mentioned the detailed nature of models. The preservice teachers possessed teacher-centered views of using models in the science classroom, and a small number of them remarked that they were going to use models for students to develop their own models and perform scientific inquiry.

  • Purpose: Trust plays an important role in e-commerce because consumers perceive more risk involved with this type of shopping than traditional way of shopping. Trust is defined as complex and multidimensional issue. This paper argues that trust should be considered to have two important components as trust belief and trust intention, in which trust belief has three components as competence, integrity and benevolence. Research design, data and methodology: This study examines the relationship between retailer website quality (web design, navigation, information), reputation and risk toward trust. In addition, trust and risk toward buying behavior are also considered, leading to customer satisfaction. The paper is conducted on a sample of 594 customers with direct experience of online shopping in Vietnam. Both confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and a structural equation model (SEM) were utilised. Results: Empirical findings from this paper indicate that trust is high order construct. Website quality and reputation have positive impacts on customers' trust. Trust has a positive relationship to buying behavior and customers' satisfaction while perceived risk has negative relationship to buying behavior. In contrast, a relationship between perceived risk and trust is not supported in this study. Conclusions: Improving reputation and website quality (especially information) may increase customers' trust and eventually lead to purchase decision.

  • The case study describes kindergarten children's reading stances and responses with relation to those of their mothers'. Rosenbaltt's theory (1978) of aesthetic and efferent stances in used to characterize the relationship between the reader and the text. mother's reading stances are examined by observing each case study child's reading experience with his/her mother at home. In most cases differences in some children's preferred stances seemed to reflect differences in their mothers' stances. As a result, children took a different type of stance from the teacher's efferent stance and were perceived by the teacher to be slower with regard to literacy development, even though they had formed their own reading worlds. Interestingly enough, children with an aesthetic reading stance were welcomed among their peers during free play time. In contrast, children who took a stance congruent with the teacher's efferent stnace were perceived by the teacher to be on the right track with regard to literacy development, although their reading worlds seened to be limited. Interestingly, the children with efferent reading stances were not engaged in collaborative meaning negotiation processes with peers. The case study children with mothers who did not take an extreme type of stance, I.e., neither a very efferent nor a very aesthetic stance, seemed to choose a type of stance depending on a context.
