  • The major influence factor on chloride penetration into concrete structures is chloride ion concentration. In this study, chloride penetration analyses with chloride ion concentration were carried out by the developed program. Also, the service life of concrete structures was predicted. The penetration depth was 32mm in case that chloride ion concentration wad 600ppm. It was shown that the service life of concrete structures with 40mm cover depth was 167 years even though they had been exposed at chloride ion concentration 600ppm during 100 years.

  • To examine the microleakage of posterior esthetic restorative materials, using 2% methylene blue dye solution, dye penetration was determined with 80 permanent posterior teeth after thermocycling. The following results were obtained. 1. Amalgam group showed the most severe dye penetration of all test groups through the enamel and dentin / cementum margins. 2. Clearfil group showed much more dye penetration than P-50 at the enamel margin and than resin inlay system at the dentin / cementum margin. 3. Through the etched enamel margin, P-50 and resin inlay system groups showed no dye penetration, if any, but through the dentin / cementum margin, all test groups showed dye penetration. 4. Resin inlay system showed the least dye penetration of all test groups through the dentin / cementum margin.

  • Measuring ink penetration is one of the best ways to know paper printability. Ink penetration was effected by physical properties of newspapers. This study was carried out for the purpose of improvement printability with ink penetration of Korean newspapers. The samples were prepared by means of 7 Newspaper manufacture company in Korea, and were tested by IGT printability tester. The results of this experiments showed that the rate of ink penetration, roughness and porosity are proportioned. While, ink penetration, paper formation, ash content and smoothness of paper are in inverse proportioned.

  • In the T-joint welding, the complete penetration joint which is obtained by groove welding with edge preparation is generally required thor the safety and reliability of structures but this way have the some defects such as increase of working time, consumed welding electrode quantity and large welding deformation. If there is no probrem, in the strength, T-joint welding without edge preparation will be profitably understood in the economical and welding deformation side. In this paper, we performed the finite element analysis to understand the characteristics of welding residual stresses on two models, complete penetration joint have the edge preparation and incomplete penetration joint without edge preparation, respectively. Especially, we observed the relation between welding residual stress distributed on the notch of gap in the root and external force in the incomplete penetration joint without edge preparation.

  • The author has studied comparatively the sealing quality of conventional Z.O.E. cement, chloropercha and FR cement by means of penetration of 2% methylene blue solution through the apex of human teeth in 112 cases as the time elapsed. The results were as follows; 1. All the specimen, of which dye immersion time is three days, showed dye penetration of low degree unrelated to the kinds of root canal cement and the degree of dye penetration was increased as the time elapsed. 2. Of all the experimental group, the Z.O.E. cement group showed the lowest degree of dye penetration and the FR filling group showed the highest degree of dye penetration. 3. The degree of dye penetration of FR cement group was higher than that of the Z.O.E. cement group but lower than that of the chloropercha group.

  • In order to estimate the chloride ion penetration, the model, which considers diffusion and sorption, is proposed on the basis of Finite Element Method (FEM). The FEM program provides the estimation of chloride concentration according to cyclic humidity and sorption. After the humidity diffusion analysis is carried out, the chloride ion diffusion and sorption analysis are conducted on the basis of the preestimated humidity data in each element. Each element has different analysis variables at different ages and locations. At early ages and constant outer humidity, the difference between inner and outer relative humidity causes the chloride ion penetration by sorption. As the humidity diffusion reduces the difference with age, the effect of sorption on the chloride ion penetration decreases. By the way, the cyclic humidity increases the effect of sorption on the chloride ion penetration at early ages, and the quantity of chloride ion around steel at later ages. Therefore, the in-situ analysis of chloride ion penetration for marine concrete structures must be performed considering the cyclic humidity condition and the long term sorption.

  • Chloride penetration is the main reason which causes the deterioration of concrete structures. Chloride penetration of concrete structures due to chemical-physical phenomena can be profitably analyzed by means of model-based simulations. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze chloride penetration considering self-desiccation, convection and admixture(GBFS: granulated blast-furnace slag) effects. Basic governing equations are modified properly to apply these effects to chloride penetration analysis. Temperature and relative humidity data of In-Cheon from Korea Meteorological Administration are used for analyzing chloride penetration.

  • The evaluation of characteristics of concrete coated by high performance surface penetration agency was examined through various tests, i.e., compressive strength, penetration depth, water and air permeability, absorption according to various high performance surface penetration agencies and various compressive strengths of base concrete. The 4 types of high performance surface penetration agencies were used i.e., organic, inorganic, water soluble, and alcohol soluble. And 3 types of compressive strength of base concrete were used such as 21, 24 and 30 MPa. The characteristics of concrete coated high performance surface penetration agency was more improved than that of non-coated concrete, and especially, water soluble inorganic agency was most effective. And if compressive strength of base concrete was low, the improved effects would be larger.

  • Crack penetration behavior by fatigue crack propagation and measurements of AE before-and-after crack penetration were examined using SS41 steel plate. Experimental crack shape of SU type was in good agreement with calculated shape rather than S type. Crack propagation behavior on the front surface appears not to change markedly after penetration. However, crack growth on the back surface appears to accelerate as reported by author. As a crack propagates, AE occurred heavily just before penetration. Then, it decreases and crack is penetrating. A transition from plane strain to plane stress was observed by fractographic study. At this time, separation of fracture surface was shown which affects AE occurrence.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure penetration of dye stuff(5% Methylene blue, Hematoxylin, Crystal violet and Safranin-O) on silicate cement, Adaptic, Hi-pol and unfilled resin. Each filling material was mixed on the mixing pad and the mixed material was inserted with condensation force of 500gr, 1000gr and 2000gr and without condensation force into preformed glass tube (10mm in diameter and 10mm in height). The specimen was stored in the air for 24 hours, then specimen was immersed in various dye solution (5% methylene blue, hematoxin, crystal violet and safranin-O) for different period of time (l hour and 24 hours). These dye-treated specimen was cut horizontally at the middle portion and the dye penetration in cut surface was measured. Following results were obtained. 1. Pentration of various dye was excessive in silicate cement with and without Condensation force. 2. There has been no evidence of dye penetration in unfilled resin. 3. Dye penetration occurced with in 1 hour period and the extending time didn't affect the dye penetration.
