To fill the gap of films for metal-to-metal space High density plasma fluorinated silicate glass (HDP FSG) is used due to various advantages. However, FSG films can have critical drawbacks such as bonding issue of top metal at package, metal contamination, metal peel-off, and so on. These problems are generally caused by fluorine penetration out of FSG film. Hence, FSG capping layers such like SRO(Silicon Rich Oxide) are required to prevent flourine penetration. In this study, their characteristics and a capability to block fluorine penetration for various FSG capping layers are investigated through FTIR analysis. FTIR graphs of both SRO using ARC chamber and SiN show that clear Si-H bonds at $2175{\sim}2300cm^{-1}$. Thus, Si-H bond at $2175{\sim}2300cm^{-1}$ of FSG capping layers lays a key role to block fluorine penetration as well as dangling bond.
Membrane penetration is the most important factor influencing the measurement of volume change for triaxial consolidated-drained shear test for coarse-grained soil. The effective pressure p, average particle size $d_{50}$, thickness $t_m$ and elastic modulus $E_m$ of membrane, contact area between membrane and soil $A_m$ as well as the initial void ratio e are the major factors influencing membrane penetration. According to the membrane deformation model given by Kramer and Sivaneswaran, an analytical solution of the membrane penetration considering the initial void ratio is deduced using the energy conservation law. The basic equations from theory of plates and shells and the elastic mechanics are employed during the derivation. To verify the presented solution, isotropic consolidation tests of a coarse-grained soil are performed by using the method of embedding different diameter of iron rods in the triaxial samples, and volume changes due to membrane penetration are obtained. The predictions from presented solution and previous analytical solutions are compared with the test results. It is found that the prediction from presented analytical solution agrees well with the test results.
This paper discusses the effect of numerical reinforcement modeling methods on the penetration performance of a penetrator into a concrete target. AUTODYN-3D has been used to conduct the numerical penetration analyses. In order to validate the computational approach, experimental data of Hanchak have been compared to a computation result and a reasonably good agreement could be obtained. The strength and the diameter of a reinforcement have been changed to find out the effect of reinforcement modeling methods on the penetration performance. The impact locations and velocities of a penetrator are also changed to investigate the effect of reinforcement modeling methods. Residual velocities of a penetrator are quantitatively compared in detail for the evaluation of reinforcement modeling effects on the penetration performance.
Experimental ballast track and concrete track were installed on the railway site and the frost penetration depth and the frost heave amount in the winter were measured. As a result, when the freezing index was the same, the frost penetration depth of concrete track was deeper than that of ballast track. Furthermore, when an XPS and polyethylene aggregate layer was installed below the ballast track, the frost penetration depth of the ballast track decreased significantly; in the case of the concrete track, the frost penetration depth decreased when the thickness of the subbase increased. Meanwhile, the frost heave amount also decreased when an XPS and polyethylene aggregate layer was installed below the ballast track ; in the case of the concrete track, the frost heave amount decreased when the thickness of the subbase increased.

Explosion after penetration of a warhead in an underground structure generally causes considerable displacement, breakage and extensive damage to the target. Therefore, in order to reduce the damage effect, it is required to design an underground structure protection against penetration. In this study, major factors for improvement of penetration protection performance of reinforced concrete underground structures using applied element method are divided into strength (concrete UCS) and density (concrete thickness, reinforcement layers, reinforcement diameters, reinforcement spacings). Based on these major factors, this study performed numerical analysis of simulation of dynamic response by penetrators under various conditions and analyzed the results. The results of this study are expected to be used as basis materials to improve penetration protection performance of reinforced concrete underground structures.

Recently, the demand for high penetration of variable renewable energy (VRE) penetration in a power system is increased. In consequence, distribution systems including microgrids confront the increased installation of VRE-based distributed generation. Despite of the high demand of VRE-based distributed generation in a distribution system, the installation of photovoltaic (PV) system in a distribution system has been restricted by various problems. In other words, the hosting capacity for high VRE penetration in a distribution system is limited. This paper analyzes the improvements of hosting capacity VRE penetration of stand-alone microgrid (SAMG) with energy storage system (ESS) by considering virtual-slack (VS) control based on power sensitivity. With the pre-defined power sensitivity, the ESS operates as virtual slack in the SAMG by controlling its bus voltage and phase angle indirectly. Therefore, the ESS enables the increase of VRE penetration in the SAMG. The proposed VS control is realized by analyzing the ESS as a virtual slack in power flow analysis based on power sensitivity. Then its validity is demonstrated with the case study on the SAMG in South Korea with practical data.
This study examined the jack-up spudcan penetration for a new type of offshore wind substructure newly proposed using the jack-up concept to reduce construction costs. The jack-up spudcan for offshore wind turbines should be designed to penetrate a stable soil layer capable of supporting operational loads. This study evaluated multi-layered soil conditions using centrifuge tests: loose sand over clay and loose sand-clay-dense sand. The penetration resistance profiles of spudcan recorded at the centrifuge tests were compared with the ISO and InSafeJIP methods. In the tests, a spudcan punch-through effect slightly emerged under the sand-over-clay condition, and a spudcan squeezing effect occurred in the clay-over-sand layer. On the other hand, these two effects were not critically predicted using the ISO method, and the InSafeJIP result predicted only punch-through failure. Nevertheless, ISO and InSafeJIP methods were well-matched under the conditions of the clay layer beneath the sand and the penetration resistance profiles at the clay layer of centrifuge tests. Therefore, the ISO and InSafeJIP methods well predict the punch-through effect at the clay layer but have limitations for penetration resistance predictions at shallow depths and strong stratum soil below a weak layer.
Steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFRSCC) has good workability such as high flowability and good cohesiveness. The workability, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and anti-penetration characteristics of three kinds of SFRSCC were investigated in this paper. The fraction of steel fibers of the SFRSCC is 0.5%, 1.5% and 2.0% respectively. The results of the static tests show that the splitting tensile strength increases with the increase of fraction of steel fibers, while the compressive strength of 1.5% SFRSCC is lowest. It is demonstrated that the anti-penetration ability of 1.5% SFRSCC subjected to a velocity projectile (200-500 m/s) is better than 0.5% and 2.0% SFRSCC according to the experimental results. Considering the steel fiber effects, the existing formula is revised to predict penetration depth, and it is revealed that the revised predicted depth of penetration is in good agreement with the experimental results. The conclusion of this paper is helpful to the experimental investigations and engineering application.
Aceclofenac is an non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug which has been used in the treatment of rheumatoidal rthritis and osteo-arthritis. In order to decrease the gastric ulcerogenic effects and contol the plasma level of aceclofenac, we have developed the transdermal delivery system of aceclofenac plaster, which were formulated employing matrix polymers of acrylates and penetration-enhancers such as $Lauroglycol^{\circledR}$, $Transcutol^{\circledR}$, oleic acid and linoleic acid. Using Franz diffusion cells mounted with a rat skin, transdermal penetration characteristics of the formulations were evaluated by the HPLC assay of aceclofenac and diclofenac, an active metabolite, in the receptor compartment of pH 7.2 phosphate buffered solution. Skin penetration was increased when the content of aceclofenac increased, showing the flux $(J,\;{\mu}g/cm^2/hr)$ of 0.37 and 2.50 for 2% and 6.75% of the content, respectively. The flux$(J,\;{\mu}g/cm^2/hr)$ from plasters made of $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 87-2074, $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 87-2510 and $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 87-2097 were 2.50, 2.77 and 4.39, respectively. $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 87-2074 showed the lowest penetration due to the carboxylic acid group in the polymer, which might form a strong hydrogen bonding with a secondary amine of aceclofenac. Although both $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 87-2510 and $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 87-2097 are amine-resistant adhesives, $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 872510 showed lower penetration than $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 87-2097 because of the hydroxyl group in $Durotak^{\circledR}$ 87-2510, which might form a weak hydrogen bonding with aceclofenac. These results reveal that the functional group in acrylic polymers would greatly affect the release of aceclofenac from the matrix, which is the rate-limiting step in the penetration of aceclofenac through rat skins. The penetration of aceclofenac from plasters using different penetration-enhancers increased in the following order: Transcutol < linoleic acid < oleic acid. And the flux from the plasters containing oleic acid as a penetrationenhancer was 2.22 times greater than that of creams, which suggest that a newly deveolped aceclofenac plaster could be used in the treatment of rheumatoidal arthritis and osteo-arthritis as an advanced transdermal delivery system.
The internal erosion due to poor compaction of the material was the main cause of collapse of the embankment in Korea. The assessment of the compaction state of the dam body was a very important check in the safety diagnosis of the embankment. In this study, the correlation between dynamic cone penetration test and plate loading test which is the most typical compaction evaluation technique was analyzed to verify the applicability of the dynamic cone penetration test in evaluating the compaction state of the dam body. The standard penetration tests were carried out six times to define soil properties and depth of the test site. The spatial distributions were obtained by the Kriging method after 15 times of plate loading tests and 47 times of dynamic cone penetration tests. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the spatial distribution of the plate loading test and the dynamic cone penetration test spatial distribution at the constant penetration depth was calculated. The load distribution in the plate loading test and the blow counts at penetration depths of 5 cm, 10 cm and 15 cm in the dynamic cone penetration test showed a weak positive correlation.
