Objective: The purpose of this study was to in this study. The maximum grip force of the elderly hand was measured using a custom-designed grasping apparatus mounted with five three-component force transducers. The Jebsen-Tayler hand function test and Purdue Pegboard test were performed to evaluate the dexterity of the hand. Method: Twenty-six elderly women participated in the left hand between the maximum grip force and the Jebsen-Taylor hand function test results (r=-.513, p=.007). A significant correlation was also shown in the hand maximum grip force and the hand Purdue Pegboard results (r=.514, p=.007). However, no significant correlation was found in the right hand. Results: We found a significant correlation investigate the relationship between hand grip strength and hand dexterity in the elderly. Conclusion: Our findings in the current study support the theory of 'Strength-dexterity complementariness' which states that improvement in dexterity is associated with the grip force strength.

The purpose of this study was to reveal how the agility of fingers directly involved in the use of mobile phones, a necessity for modern people, is related to the amount of text usage. To find out, 95 people who agreed to the purpose of this research without any limitation on visual and upper-geometry were selected. The research period was from June 27, 2018 to July 31, 2018. The evaluation tool used in this study was Grooved Pegboard, a standardized evaluation tool that measures hand dexterity, and the general characteristics of examinees such as age, text message amount, and a hand that using for text messages were investigated through interviews. Since text input methods vary depending on mobile phone types, unfamiliar methods of typing mobile phone characters can affect the speed of texting. As a result, there were significant differences in hand dexterity between age and gender. The rate of texting and hand dexterity were statistically significantly faster than those in their 20s and 30s (p<0.05), and in gender, women showed significantly faster texting and hand dexterity than men (p<0.05). However, it was not statistically significant to text usage and to the dexterity of the hand.
Purpose: Aim of this study was to investigate whether there are ipsilateral motor deficits for visuospatial accuracy and fine movements by making a comparison between stroke patients and healthy subjects. We examined whether ipsilateral motor deficits are influenced by the level of functional movements and muscle strength of the upper and lower extremities of the affected side. Methods: Thirty post-stroke subjects and 20 normal aged matched subjects were recruited. Outcome measures for less-affected side were the tracking task and nine-hole pegboard test. Fugl-Meyer test and motricity index were applied for the measurement of functional movements and muscle strength of affected side. Results: Tracking task and nine-hole pegboard test was significantly different between control and experimental group. In terms of accuracy index according to tracking, the experimental group showed a lower accuracy index in the MCP joint than the control group. However, there were no significant difference relation between the level of motor function of the affected side and the motor deficit level of ipsilateral side. Conclusion: Ipsilateral motor deficits may have significant clinical implications. It needs to be noted that although many patients, families, and medical staff are focused only on motor deficits of the affected side, motor deficits of the sound side can cause difficulties in daily living movements requiring delicate movements. In addition, there was no significant correlation between the level of motor function of the affected side and motor deficits of the sound side.

Objectives : We carried out tests for neurobehavior by using WHO-NCTB (neurobehavioral core test battery) and Perdue pegboard score test to identify differences between lacunar infarction cases and controls. Methods : Among the subjects who underwent MRI between February 2001 and March 2002 in a university hospital located in Seoul and who were diagnosed only as lacunar infarction without any intracranial disease, 46 patients were selected as cases (male: 21, female: 25). Controls were selected who had no cerebrovascular disease on MRI by matching age (5 years), gender, and education (2 years) in a ratio of 1:1 , Among WHO-NCTB, the following 5 tests and Perdue pegboard score test were used to categorize the study subjects: digit and symbol matching, simple reaction time, Benton visual retention, digit span, and Pursuit aiming test, Results : Among the above 6 tests of neurobehavior, lacunar infarction cases showed lower score than controls except for the simple reaction time test. As the controlling variables of multivariate analysis in the stepwise regression analysis, the followings were selected due to their significant association: age, education, BMI, gender, drinking, exercise, add systolic blood pressure. From multivariate regression analysis, there was significant difference (p<0.05) between lacunar infarction cases and controls in digit and symbol matching, Benton visual retention, digit span, pursuit aiming, and Perdue pegboard score test, but not in the score of simple reaction time test. Conclusions : We suggest that the above 5 tests for neurobehavior, with the exception of the simple reaction time test, might be used as the basis for recommendation of further treatment and other neurological tests by the earlier defection for neurological abnormality in lacunar infarction.
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between typing speed required dexterity of hand and visual perception. Method. We studied 50 people who were not experience of hand injury in K university. Typing speed, hand dexterity and visual perception were measured using purdue pegboard test, MVPT-3 and 'Cheongsando' in Hancom typing program. Results analysis was used Pearson correlation coefficient of the SPSS 10.0. Result. In this study, the typing speed showed a positive correlation with the figure ground, but there was no correlation visual closure and visual discrimination. Conclusion. Typing speed was correlated with hand dexterity and figure ground. Therefore, utilizing a computer keyboard at treatment can be expected to enhance hand function and visual perception.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to ob serve effects of CPM(Continuous Passive Motion) on hand functional and upper-extremity muscular strength rehabilitation for stroke patients. Method: Objects of this study, three patients have the symptoms of hemiplegia due to stroke. These are acute patients, within a 18 months after treatment and correspond in Brunnstrom stage 4~6. This study used single subject (A-B) design for three patients with a stroke and the effect of CPM was measured using Jebsen-Taylor hand function test, Purdue Pegboard test, hand muscular strength test. They received CPM for 3 weeks, 2 per day, 30 minutes for each, total 30 times. Results: Two patients' results of fingertip grip test in hand strength measurements did not change. Results of Jebsen-Taylor hand function test, Purdue Pegboard test and other hand muscular strength test were improved. To validate statistical results nonparametric statistical method, Wilcoxon signed ranks test was performed. P-Values are greater than 0.05 so difference between be fore and after treatment is not statistically significant result. Conclusion: Despite of limitation of short program period and fewer participants, CPM which has been conducted for stroke patients showed the effect on improvement of hand function and muscle strength. This study shows that CPM which is mainly used to treate lower-extremity rehabilitation can be use to improve performance of hand function and strength for patients with stroke.

To examine the effects of horticultural occupational therapy (HOT) on the physical and psychological rehabilitation of stroke patients with paralysis on one side of the body, a horticultural therapy (HT) program was implemented along with occupational therapy (OT) in 20 patients with hemiplegia after stroke (treatment group). In the control group, another 20 patients with hemiplegia after stroke received OT but no HT. The HOT program consisted of various indoor horticultural activities that proceeded stepwise on a weekly basis over the course of four weeks. The selected horticultural occupations were organized into four-phases: motivation, adaptation, sociality, and interpersonal relationships and communication. The grooved pegboard test (GPT), geriatric depression scale (GDS), and functional independent measure (FIM) were tested to the patients in this study. Unlike control group, the treatment group showed statistically significant differences in GPT, GDS, and FIM ($p$<0.001). In addition, communication, social cognition, and self-care scores as FIM subordinate factors were improved significantly by HOT program which motivated patients to engage in rehabilitation therapy. This finding suggests that HOT has the potential to be used as an OT program for stroke patients with hemiplegia.

Purpose : We intend to make the study date for an effect of therapy by comparing the functional level both before and after conducting handwriting training and strength training as a part of treatment to improve muscle strength and function of the patient's non-dominant hand. Method : 8 subjects in writing training group conducted hand writing training 30 minutes at once and three times a week for 4 weeks in total 12 times, and 8 subjects in muscle training group conducted muscle training program of putty and Rolyan ergonomic hand exerciser for 15 minutes respectively in sum up 30 minutes at once and three times a week for 4 weeks in total 12 times. 8 subjects in control group are not applied any training for 4 weeks. Results : It was much more effective in handwriting training than muscle strength training by Grooved pegboard because this study showed the speed decrease from 67.11 to 58.26 seconds in handwriting compared with muscle strength training which showed 5.22 seconds decrease from 67.54 to 62.32(P<.05). It showed about 1.34 muscle strength improvement from 6.60 to 7.94 in handwriting training and 0.92 improvement of muscle strength from 7.04 to 7.96 in muscle strength training by 3-jaw chuck pinch, so handwriting training was more effective(P<.05). It showed 11.58 seconds decrease in handwriting training from 26.62 to 18.01 seconds and 10.93 seconds decrease from 27.43 to 16.50 seconds in muscle strength training, so it was significantly shortened both in handwriting and muscle strength training(P<.05). Conclusion : Dexterity, muscle strength, and handwriting ability of non-dominant hand could improve both the handwriting training and the muscle strength training.
