Tooth impaction is defined as a cessation of the eruption of a tooth at the level of the oral mucosa or alveolar bone. Maxillary canines are the most frequently impacted teeth next to the third molar. Maxillary canine impaction is associated with congenital missing of lateral incisors, peg lateralis and genetic factors such as ectopic positioning of a tooth germ. The clinicians have an important role in early detection of tooth impaction for prevention of esthetic and functional problems. There are specific methods to treat impacted tooth for different conditions. In this case, an 11-year-old girl with a horizontally impacted maxillary right canine in a palatal position was treated through orthodontic traction along with surgical button attachment procedure. On regaining of eruption space, canine traction was performed. At the completion of treatment, the canine was positioned fairly within the arch with proper keratinized gingiva and complications such as root resorption were not observed.
The activated sludge obtained from wastewater coke oven plant was immobilized by entrapment with polyethylene glycol (PEG). The effects of several factors on the biodegradation of $CN^-$ from. synthetic wastewater were investigated using batch and continuous reactors. The degradation rate of $CN^-$ increased with increasing of the immobilized bead volume in the reactor. Approximately 7.65mg/L of $NH_4-N$ was produced upon the degradation of 35mg/L of $CN^-$. When high concentrations of the toxic cyanide complex were used in the testing of cyanide degradation, the free activated sludge could be inhibited more than that of the immobilized activated sludge. When the phenol concentration was higher than 400mg/L in the synthetic wastewater, approximately 98.4% of $CN^-$ was removed within 42 hours by the immobilized activated sludge. However, the cyanide was not completely degraded by the tree activated sludge. This indicates that high phenol concentrations can act as a toxic factor for the free activated sludge. A $CN^-$ concentration of less than 1mg/L was achieved by the immobilized sludge at the loading rate of 0.025kg $CN^-/m^3-d$. Moreover, it was found that the HRT should be kept for 48 hours in order to obtain stable treatment conditions.
The influences of the acute hemorrhage on the intestinal functions were studied in the rabbits subjected to acute bleeding, amounting 1.5-2% of the body weight. The motility and the absorptive capacity of the ileum were compared before and after the bleeding. Transfusion of shed blood was also performed in order to see whether the deteriorations were reversible or not. The tension developed in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the ileum was recorded through an appropriate transducer, and the frequency of the rhythmic contraction was counted throughout the procedure. Test solution, 10ml in amount, was placed in the loop of the ileum, and the samples were drawn at zero time and at 20 minutes. Triplicated procedures were repeated on the same loop;namely, before and after bleeding and after transfusion. The test solution was composed of 200 mg% urea, 218 mEq/l of NaCl and 150 mg% of polyethylene glycol (PEG) No. 4,000 in distilled water. The latter substance was used as a marker substance for the volume change of the loop. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The motility of the ileum suffered little effects by acute hemorrhage. However, minor fluctuations were seen in the frequency of the rhythm, showing a slight tendency of decreasing rhythmicity, and it was reversed by transfusion. 2. Diminution of absorptive capacity of urea was noticed in acute hemorrhage and it was interpreted as the consequence of the secondary effect of the retardation of the active transport mechanism governing the sodium transport 3. Absorption rate of the sodium ion was dropped in the hemorrhage, suggesting the indispensable need of the blood supply. 4. Osmolarity of the luminal fluid remained higher in the case of acute hemorrhage. 5. There was a tendency of retaining more fluid in the intestinal lumen in acute hemorrhage, comparing with that observed prior to the bleeding. 6. The deteriorations in the absorptive capacity were restored by transfusion of shed blood.
MPEG-PCL diblock copolymers consisting of methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG) and $\varepsilon$-caprolactone (CL) as drug carriers were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization MPEG-PCL diblock copolymers were characterized by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. After freeze milling of block copolymers and albumin bovine-fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC-BSA) as model protein, the wafers loaded FITC-BSA were fabricated by direct compression method. The release profiles of FITC-BSA were examined using pH 7.4 PBS for 14 days at 37$^{\circ}C$. The release amount was determined by fluorescence intensity by using the fluorescence spectrophotometer. The morphological change of wafers was observed by digital camera and scanning electron microscope. The release rate and initial burst of BSA increased with increasing PEG molecular weights and decreasing PCL molecular weights in the segments of MPEG -PCL diblock copolymers.

Resource recovery and recycling of materials and products, including polyurethanes is viewed as a necessity in today's society. Most urethane polymers are made from a polyol and a diisocyanate. these and be chemicals such as water, diamines or diols that react with isocyanate groups and add to the polymer backbone. The problems of recycling polyurethane wastes has major technological, economic and ecological significance because polyurethane itself is relatively expensive and its disposal whether by burning is also costly. In general, the recycling methods for polyurethane could be classified as mechanical, chemical and feedstock. In the chemical recycling method, there are hydrolysis, glycolysis, pyrolysis and aminolysis. This study, the work was carried out glycolysis using sonication ant catalyzed reaction. Different kinds of recycled polyols were produced by current method(glycolysis), catalyzed reaction and sonication as decomposers and the chemical properties were analyzed. The reaction results in the formation of polyester urethane diols, the OH value which is determined by the quantity of diol used for the glycolysis conditions. The glycolysis rates by sonication for the various glycols, increased as fallows: PPG
It is known that bones get damaged by accidents and aging. Since the discovery of Bioglass, various kinds of ceramics have been also found to bond to living bone; some of these ceramics are already being clinically used as bone-repairing materials. In the present study, antibacterial calcium silicate gel ($Ag-30CaO{\cdot}70SiO_2$ gel) was prepared by sol-gel method in order to control the microstructure, which is related to the dissolution rate and induction period of apatite formation in body environment. In addition, biological $Ag-30CaO{\cdot}70SiO_2$ is tested. This was done to impart antimicrobial activity to the $30CaO{\cdot}70SiO_2$. Ag ion was added during sol-gel synthesis to replace the $H_2O$ added during the making of the $30CaO{\cdot}70SiO_2$ gel, which has silver solutions of various concentration. After the sol-gel process, 1N-$HNO_3$ solution was used to wash the gel when synthesizing the gel, in order to maintain the porous structure and remove PEG, water soluble polymers. Then, the apatite forming ability of the sol-gel derived CaO-$SiO_2$ gels was investigated using simulated body fluid (SBF), which had almost the same ion concentration as that of human blood plasma. The gels were analyzed by FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM observation, XRD, and fluorescent microscopy. The apatite was successfully created even after washing the gel; apatite is present in an amorphous state, and was found to affect the concentration of the Ag ion in cells in MC3T3 live & dead assay results. From these results, it is suggested that a good material that can be used to repair defects of nature bone is $Ag-30CaO{\cdot}70SiO_2$ gel.
Purpose: This study was performed to review the recent experiences of pediatric gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy done in one university hospital. Methods: A retrospective review of medical records was conducted of 1,040 pediatric cases who underwent GI endoscopy at the Pusan National University Hospital between January 2001 to June 2005. Results: A total of 1,040 endoscopies (upper 840 and lower 200) were performed. The male/female ratio was 1.25:1. Neonates and infants accounted for 6.0% and 16.5% respectively. Half of the children were below 5 years (mean age $8.5{\pm}2.1$ years). Upper and lower GI diagnostic endoscopies were performed in 634 and 163 children respectively. Abdominal pain (38.8%), vomiting (19.4%), foreign body (17.7%), and hematemesis (10.3%) were the main reasons for esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Hematochezia (56.0%), abdominal pain (27.5%) and diarrhea (3.0%) were the main reasons for colonoscopy. Upper GI therapeutic procedures included retrieval of foreign bodies, balloon dilatations of esophageal stricture, PEG, and variceal ligation in 148, 27, 15, and 3 children, respectively. Therapeutic lower GI endoscopies were performed in 37 children (polypectomy in 92%, argon lazer cauterization for angiodysplasia in 4%). Conclusion: GI endoscopy played an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of GI diseases in children. Procedures in younger aged children, cases evaluated by colonoscopy and therapeutic endoscopies are increasing in pediatric practice.
The optima] conditions for the formation, the regeneration. and the spheroplast fusion of Flavimonas aryz/habitans spheroplasts were investigated. Cells were transformed to spherop]asts effectively by treatment of 0.5% volume (v/v) of 0.] M EDTA and ]00 flg/ml lysozyme at $37^{\circ}C$ for 30 min without shaking. Magnesium chloride and calcium chloride were effective on the stabilization of spheroplasts. and 20 mM calcium chloride in the rich regeneration medium improve the yield of regenerants as much as 3.5-fo]d. Addition of 0.8% bovine serium albumine (BSA) in dilution buffer for spheroplast formation improved the stabilization of spheroplasts over extended periods (4-6 hr) at room temperature. and thus increased the yield of recombinants to 4.5-fold. The spheroplast formation frequency and regeneration frequency of F aryzihabitans strain was 90.10% and 3.800/." respectively. The first regenerated cell of F. aryzihabitans spheroplasts were appeared 6 hours after plating. By I I hours after plating, 80% of spheroplasts were regenerated on thc rich regeneration medium containing 0.5 M sucrose. The intraspeci11c spheroplast fusion of F urvz/habitans was carried out and the properties of obtained fusants were investigated. Formation of fusion products was effective when the Flav/munas spheroplast mixture was treated with 40%(w/v) PEG6000 and 20 mM CaCl, for 10 min at room temperature. and thc formation of frequency of recombinants were $2.0{\times}10^{-5}~3.6{\times}10^{-5}$. All tested recombinant clones were very stable on further propagation.
