  • The aorta is the most common major thoracic artery injured by blunt chest trauma. Injuries to major aortic arch branch arteries can also occur but are much less common than aortic injuries in the setting of blunt trauma. Although internal mammary artery (IMA) injury is uncommon and rarely diagnosed in cases of blunt chest trauma, it is one of the important sources of bleeding in chest trauma. IMA bleeding can cause ongoing blood loss and may lead to serious conditions such as extensive hemothorax, anterior mediastinal hematoma or its catastrophic complication, cardiac tamponade. However such arotic and branch artery injuries are not easily detected by plain radiograph, and are detected indirectly because of associated mediastinal hematoma. Herein, we report a case of IMA injury caused by blunt chest trauma secondary to pedestrian traffic accident. The injured patient was successfully treated by transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE).

  • Recently, carelessness on safety management in construction sites has caused a sharper upward trend in accidents and disasters, compared to the past. Therefore, this study analyzes the causes of accidents that occurred on construction sites in the year of 2010, and proposes preventive measures. The construction industry had a heavy death rate with 279 out of 418 deaths from falls in all industrial sites, accounting for 66.7%. And the causation analysis found a particularly high incidence of temporary structure-related accidents, with falling off scaffolding as the most common cause of accidents. According to the causation analysis of fall-down accident cases, accidents induced by protrusion on construction sites are a big contributor resulting in the deaths of 312, accounting for 74.8%, which is deemed to be due to site disorderliness. And to remove floor protrusions and to secure workers' traffic line and safety, neat and thorough site arrangement is necessary. Against collision, efforts must be made to prevent equipment-pedestrian crashes on site, which necessarily requires emergency lamps, alarm bells, and safety poles and blocks to be installed, lighting systems to be improved, obstacles to be removed, site supervisors to be assigned to construction equipment works, and workers to be more intensely trained and supervised.

철도건널목 사고방지를 위한 방안 연구 (Accident Prevention Technology at a Level Crossing)

  • The safety equipments of railway level crossing which are installed at intersections between roads and railway lines prevent level crossing accidents by informing all of the vehicles and pedestrians of approaching trains. The intelligent safety system for level crossing which employs information and communication technology has been developed in USA and Japan, etc. But, in Korea, the relevant research has not been performed. In this paper, we analyze the cause of railway level crossing accidents and the inherent problem of the existing safety equipments. Based on analyzed results, we design the intelligent safety system which prevent collision between a train and a vehicle. This system displays train approaching information in real-time at roadside warning devices, informs approaching train of the detected obstacle in crossing areas, and is interconnected with traffic signal to empty the crossing area before train comes. Especially, we present the video based obstacle detection algorithm and verify its performance with prototype H/W since the abrupt obstacles in crossing areas are the main cause of level crossing accidents. We identify that the presented scheme detects both pedestrian and vehicle with good performance.

  • Structural members are designed to maintain the load-carrying capacity as well as structural strength, and the structural serviceability such as the deflection, cracks, and vibration to give the occupants uncomfortable environment should be checked. Recently, the importance of the vibration has been issued since the Techno Mart accident due to vibration resonance. This study provides a passive vibration control system using the repulsion force of magnets to reduce dynamic vibrations. The systems is devised by importing the constraint condition by a hinge to operate magnets installed at two adjacent locations. The effectiveness of the proposed system is investigated by the vibration control test of a steel beam with and without the control system. It is illustrated in the test that the system is activated by the control forces executed by the magnets and can be utilized in reducing the dynamic responses. The system can be applied to pedestrian bridge and traffic bridge. The applicability is expected in the future by optimizing the factors to affect the dynamic responses like the intensity, mass, locations of magnets.

생활도로에서의 교통행태와 교통사고특성에 관한 연구 - 서울특별시를 중심으로 (The Comparative Study on Travel Behavior and Traffic Accident Characteristics on a Community Road - With Focus on Seoul Metropolitan City)

  • 우리나라의 인구 10만명당 차대사람 사망자 수는 OECD평균보다 약 3배 높고, 특히 생활도로에서 60% 이상 발생하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 보행자 및 차량의 통행실태 조사를 통해 사고원인을 분석하여 생활도로의 실질적인 안전성 증진방안을 도출하고자 하였다. 최근 보행환경은 우측보행 비율이 증가하고, 보행 중 스마트폰 사용자가 증가하는 등 많은 변화가 일어나고 있다. 통행실태 조사결과, 우측보행이 65%로 높고, 보행중 스마트폰 사용율도 17%로 나타났다. Eye Camera 실험을 통한 운전자의 운전부하량은 생활도로가 도시부 도로에 비해 4배 이상 높게 나타났으며, 속도조사 결과 30km/h이상 주행하는 차량이 62%로 높게 나타났다. 생활도로의 사고특성은 가장자리 통행사고 비율이 전체도로 대비 2.3배 높으며, 우측보행 시 사고가 좌측보행 시에 비해 2.5배 더 많고 우측에서 좌측으로 횡단할 때 더 위험한 것으로 분석되었다. 사고원인은 대부분 안전운전불이행(84.4%)이고, 차량이 좌회전할 때 사고가 우회전대비 2.3배 높고 후진사고의 비율이 14%로 높게 나타났다. 생활도로에서는 운전자가 일반도로에 비해 4배 이상 많은 운전집중력을 가져야하기 때문에 차량을 등지고 보행하거나 부주의한 행동을 하는 것은 사고로 이어질 개연성이 큰 것으로 분석되었다.

인체와 노면간의 마찰계수 추정에 관한 연구 (Estimation of Drag Factors Between Roadway Surface and Human Body)

  • 차 대 보행자 교통사고는 다른 유형의 사고에 비해 피해가 매우 크고 사고의 비중도 높으나 사고의 특성 상 과학적 접근이 어렵다. 기존 보행자 사고에 관한 연구의 대부분은 차 대 보행자의 충돌 실험에 대한 실험식 도출에 집중되어 있고, 실험식에서 중요한 변수로 작용되는 인체 활주 마찰 계수에 대한 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 인체와 노면간의 마찰계수에 대한 현장실험을 실시하여 이에 대한 실험값을 측정하여 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 조사된 인체노면 마찰계수 값은 건조한 아스팔트 도로에서 0.59~0.62, 건조한 콘크리트 도로는 0.59~0.61로 측정되었다. 또한, 젖은 아스팔트와 콘크리트 도로에서는 각각 0.56~0.59, 0.51~0.54로 나타나 건조한 노면 상태와 비교하여 5.0%와 8.3% 감소하는 것으로 파악되었다. 도출된 마찰계수를 시뮬레이션 프로그램을 이용하여 검증한 바, 실험 수치와 시뮬레이션 결과가 유사함을 확인하였다. 본 연구결과를 활용하여 국내 교통사고 조사 시 사용되는 인체 마찰계수의 적용 값의 범위를 축소할 수 있고, 이는 사고 조사의 정확성 향상에 큰 도움을 줄 것으로 기대한다.

Utility of Spinal Injury Diagnosis Using C-Spine Lateral X-Ray and Chest, Abdomen and Pelvis Computed Tomography in Major Trauma Patients with Impaired Consciousness

  • Purpose: The regional emergency medical centers manage the patients with major blunt trauma according to the process appropriate to each hospital rather than standardized protocol of the major trauma centers. The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and influence on prognosis of additional cervical-thoracic-lumbar-spine computed tomography (CTL-spine CT) scan in diagnosis of spinal injury from the victim of major blunt trauma with impaired consciousness. Methods: The study included patients visited the urban emergency medical center with major blunt trauma who were over 18 years of age from January 2013 to December 2016. Data were collected from retrospective review of medical records. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were measured for evaluation of the performance of diagnostic methods. Results: One hundred patients with Glasgow coma scale ${\leq}13$ underwent additional CTL-spine CT scan. Mechanism of injury was in the following order: driver, pedestrian traffic accident, fall and passenger accident. Thirty-one patients were diagnosed of spinal injury, six of them underwent surgical management. The sensitivity of chest, abdomen and pelvis CT (CAP CT) was 72%, specificity 97%, false positive rate 3%, false negative rate 28% and diagnostic accuracy 87%. Eleven patients were not diagnosed of spinal injury with CAP CT and C-spine lateral view, but all of them were diagnosed of stable fractures. Conclusions: C-spine CT scan be actively considered in the initial examination process. When CAP CT scan is performed in major blunt trauma patients with impaired consciousness, CTL-spine CT scan or simple spinal radiography has no significant effect on the prognosis of the patient and can be performed if necessary.

머신러닝 기반의 수도권 지역 고령운전자 차대사람 사고심각도 분류 연구 (Classifying Severity of Senior Driver Accidents In Capital Regions Based on Machine Learning Algorithms)

  • 고령화 시대에 따라 고령운전자 역시 증가하고 있으며, 이들에 의한 교통사고 심각성에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 고령운전자에 의한 사고심각도 예측 모형의 필요성이 점차 요구됨에 따라, 본 연구에서는 기계학습 기법을 활용하여 고령운전자에 의한 차대사람 사고심각도 예측을 위한 모형 정립 및 분석을 수행하고자 한다. 이를 위해 4개의 기계학습 알고리즘 (Logistic Model, KNN, RF, SVM)을 활용, 예측 모형을 개발하고 각 결과를 비교하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면 Logistic과 SVM 모형이 상대적으로 높은 예측력을 보였으며, 정확도 측면에서는 RF가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 추가적으로 각 중요 변수들을 이용하여 교차분석을 수행한 후 그 결과를 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과들은 고령화시대에 고령운전자에 의한 사고심각성을 예방하기 위한 안전정책 및 인프라 개발에 활용될 것으로 판단된다.

안전의식 측정 척도 개발 연구 : 서울시 일부 중학생을 중심으로 (A Study on the Development of the Measuring Scale of Safety Consciousness)

  • Recently, the industrialized world is suffering from accidents referring from the lack of safety consciousness. According to Korean Safety Regulation Department(1996), students at junior high schools are mostly involved in safety accidents, and this is due to lack of safety consciousness. To prevent these accidents, we need to have safety consciousness and attitude. To make junior high school students who are mostly affected in these accidents act safely, they need to know their level of safety consciousness. The purpose of this study is to develop a guideline of measuring the scale of safety consciousness and analyze the relationship between safety education, accident experiences and safety consciousness. This study is based on a survey of 708 junior high students in Seoul, which was carried out from 12 November, 2001 to 21 November, 2001. 1. The main fields of safety consciousness are home safety, school safety, fire safety, emergency management based on documents. Home safety is again divided into facility safety and livelihood safety, school safety is divided into facility safety, livelihood safety and laboratory safety, traffic safety is divided into pedestrian safety, bicycling safety and public transportation safety, fire safety divided into prevention and escaping during fire breakouts, emergency management safety is divided into general principles and escaping during emergency situations. 2. The primary safety consciousness scale was made according to every field of safety consciousness. A preliminary examination based on the scale and a study of reliance and the factors was held. Based on these results, 27 questions which were concerned to be impairing reliability or lacking in factor were deleted on the secondary safety consciousness scale development The secondary safety consciousness scale which constituted of 73 questions was put into another preliminary study and after analyzing reliability and the factors, 12 questions of low reliabilities were deleted and with these results, the third scale were made consisting of 61 questions. 3. A study based on the third safety scale which is made of 61 questions, were held and with a analysis of the reliability and factors made, the relationship between safety education, accident experience and safety mind were examined. (1) The study of reliability and factors show that Cronbach's coefficient in home safety fields is .7598, in school safety .7924, in traffic safety .8306, in emergency treatment .7775, in fire safety .7247. The questions indicating low reliability were deleted. The factor analysis revealed that home safety is converged on facility safety and livelihood safety. But one question was deleted because it showed incongruence of validity. School safety was converged on facility safety, livelihood safety and laboratory safety. But 2 questions showed incongruence of validity and these were deleted. Traffic safety fields were converged on pedestrian safety, bicycle safety and public transportation safety. One question showing incongruence of validity was deleted. Emergency treatment fields converged on general principles and acting in emergency situations and three questions showing incongruence of validity were deleted. Fire safety was converged on prevention and acting in fire breakouts. Totally, eight questions were removed and the final scale were consisted of 53 questions (2) The 3/sup rd/ grade students scored higher average safety mind scales than 1st graders(p〈.05). And students who had high scores at school tend to have a higher scale than those who do not(p〈.001). (3) Average scale of students who had experience in safety education were higher(p〈.001). Students who had previously been involved in home safety accidents had a low score(p〈.001). This was same to students with experience in school safety accidents(p〈.001). Students with traffic safety accidents and fire safety accidents tend to have a lower scale too(p〈.05, p〈.001).
