Lateral vibrations of footbridges may induce synchronization between pedestrians and structure itself, resulting in amplification of such vibrations, a phenomenon identified by lock-in. However, investigations about accelerations and frequencies of the structural movement that are related to the occurrence of synchronization are still incipient. The aim of this paper is to investigate conditions that could lead to avoidance of synchronization among pedestrians themselves and footbridge, expressed in terms of peak acceleration. The focus is on the low acceleration range, employed in some guidelines as a criterion to avoid synchronization. An experimental campaign was carried out, employing a prototype footbridge that was set into oscillatory motion through a pneumatic exciter controlled by a fuzzy system, with controlled frequency and amplitude. Test subjects were then asked to cross the oscillating structure, and accelerations were simultaneously recorded at the structure and at the subject's waist. Pattern and phase differences between these signals were analysed. The results showed that test subjects tended to keep their walking patterns without synchronization induced by the vibration of the structure, for structural peak acceleration values up to 0.18 m/s2, when frequencies of oscillation were around 0.8 to 0.9 Hz. On the other hand, for frequencies of oscillation below 0.7 Hz, structural peak accelerations up to 0.30 m/s2 did not induce synchronization.
This study aims to provide guidelines for the selection of on-street parking spot on local streets considering conditions of surrounding area and characteristics of traffic generation. This guideline provides the method which determine required roadway width for planning and design of local streets. It is necessary to identify factors for the location selection analysis. This research team selects 12 case study areas to investigate traffic environment on the sites for this analysis. Most of factors which influence on-street parking are found to have a qualitative data format except traffic volume and pedestrian movement data. Quantification theory II which is known to be suitable for qualitative analysis has been applied to identify the meaningful variables for dependent variable. In addition, discriminant analysis has performed to verify the correlation for each variable with hit ratio. Road width, traffic volume, street traders and their heavy packages, and illegally parked vehicle are found to be most significant factors for selection of on-street parking location. Therefore, it is necessary to consider traffic volume generated from massive residential complex and traffic volume for outside and above-mentioned factors for installation of on-street parking facility in the case of new road construction or road width widen.
This paper develops the argument that the 'Healthy Cities Approach' extends beyond the boundaries of officially designated Healthy Cities and suggests that signs of it are evident much more widely in efforts to promote health in the United Kingdom and in national policy. It draws on examples from Leeds, a major city in the north of England. In particular, it suggests that efforts to improve population health need to focus on the wider determinants and that this requires a collaborative response involving a range of different sectors and the participation of the community. Inequality is recognised as a major issue and the need to identify areas of deprivation and direct resources towards these is emphasised. Childhood poverty is referred to and the importance of breaking cycles of deprivation. The role of the school is seen as important in contributing to health generally and the compatibility between Healthy Cities and Health Promoting Schools is noted. Not only can Health Promoting Schools improve the health of young people themselves they can also develop the skills, awareness and motivation to improve the health of the community. Using child pedestrian injury as an example, the paper argues that problems and their cause should not be conceived narrowly. The Healthy Cities movement has taught us that the response, if it is to be effective, should focus on the wider determinants and be adapted to local circumstances. Instead of simply attempting to change behaviour through traditional health education we need to ensure that the environment is healthy in itself and supports healthy behaviour. To achieve this we need to develop awareness, skills and motivation among policy makers, professionals and the community The 'New Health' education is proposed as a term to distinguish the type of health education which addresses these issues from more traditional forms.
The number of patients with cardiovascular diseases who experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) are increasing among young adults as well as the aged population. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is vital in improving survival rates of OHCA victims. Survival rates of OHCA were shown to decline exponentially in time to defibrillation, yet studies in Korea are uncommon that captures the properties of their survival rates in examining optimal locations of AEDs. In this study, we worked on the maximal gradual coverage location problem (MGCLP) with exponential decay coverage function to decide on their optimal locations. The exponential decay coverage function mitigates the drawback of over-estimating survival rates of OHCA patients. It is expected that a more sophisticated facility location problem will be developed to identify the "emergent" characteristics of pedestrians who responds to the OHCA occurrence by incorporating random pedestrian locations and movement through simulation.

Crosswalks play an important role for the safe movement of pedestrians in a complex urban environment. However, for the visually impaired, crosswalks can be a big risk factor. Although assistive tools such as braille blocks and acoustic traffic lights exist for safe walking, poor management can sometimes act as a hindrance to safety. This paper proposes a method to improve accuracy in a deep learning-based real-time crosswalk detection model that can be used in applications for pedestrian assistance for the disabled at the beginning. The image was binarized by utilizing the characteristic that the white line of the crosswalk image contrasts with the road surface, and through this, the crosswalk could be better recognized and the location of the crosswalk could be more accurately identified by using two models that learned the whole and the middle part of the crosswalk, respectively. In addition, it was intended to increase accuracy by creating a boundary box that recognizes crosswalks in two stages: whole and part. Through this method, additional frames that the detection model did not detect in RGB image learning from the crosswalk image could be detected.

Purpose: Falls among persons older than 65 years are a significant concern due to their frequency and severity. This study aimed to develop a vest-type embedded artificial intelligence (AI) system capable of detecting and predicting falls in various scenarios. Methods: In this study, we established and developed a vest-type embedded AI system to judge and predict falls in various directions and situations. To train the AI, we collected data using acceleration and gyroscope values from a six-axis sensor attached to the seventh cervical and the second sacral vertebrae of the user, considering accurate motion analysis of the human body. The model was constructed using a neural network-based AI prediction algorithm to anticipate the direction of falls using the collected pedestrian data. Results: We focused on developing a lightweight and efficient fall prediction model for integration into an embedded AI algorithm system, ensuring real-time network optimization. Our results showed that the accuracy of fall occurrence and direction prediction using the trained fall prediction model was 89.0% and 78.8%, respectively. Furthermore, the fall occurrence and direction prediction accuracy of the model quantized for embedded porting was 87.0 % and 75.5 %, respectively. Conclusion: The developed fall detection and prediction system, designed as a vest-type with an embedded AI algorithm, offers the potential to provide real-time feedback to pedestrians in clinical settings and proactively prepare for accidents.

In this study, we intend to develop a defective road surface object recognition model that automatically detects road surface defects that restrict the movement of the transportation handicapped using electric mobile devices with deep learning. For this purpose, road surface information was collected from the pedestrian and running routes where the electric mobility aid device is expected to move in five areas within the city of Busan. For data, images were collected by dividing the road surface and surroundings into objects constituting the surroundings. A series of recognition items such as the detection of breakage levels of sidewalk blocks were defined by classifying according to the degree of impeding the movement of the transportation handicapped in traffic from the collected data. A road surface object recognition deep learning model was implemented. In the final stage of the study, the performance verification process of a deep learning model that automatically detects defective road surface objects through model learning and validation after processing, refining, and annotation of image data separated and collected in units of objects through actual driving. proceeded.

Medium to large post structures installed along the roadside without proper protection can lead to serious vehicle damage and occupant injury at the impact. In North America and Europe, splitting systems such as slip base or breakaway device are used to reduce impacts. But the system has the risk of secondary accident when the splitted post falls down to the traffic or pedestrian. Sliding Post have been proposed as a way to solve this problem. By studying the crash test results of the 1.3ton and 0.9ton vehicle with 60 km/h and 80 km/h to a Rigidly Fixed Post (RFP) and Sliding Post (SP), danger of the conventional RFP and crashworthiness of the SP have been proven. While collision analysis only from the acceleration measured at the center of the vehicle assumes the motion of the post is the same as that of the vehicle, in this paper, by adding high speed film data to the analysis with vehicle acceleration could have separate the post motion from the vehicle motion. It gives better explanations on the movement of post and vehicle in each distinctive time step and provides basics to the crashworthy post design.

Police agency is indicated that the number of children's traffic accident is tending downwards, however about one child is dead every day due to traffic accident. Major parts of the accidents happen during walking; among the rest, jaywalking is the biggest reason. Many accidents take plate on the road to school or near the home so government legislate children safeguard zone at 1995. According to the legislation, drivers have to reduce speed and there are safety facilities for children at children safeguard zone. This study finds the problems of children safeguard zone and suggest more effective and quantitative method for children safeguard zone. Firstly this study grasps the characters of children's pattern movement and children's traffic accident at children safeguard zone and then divides specific danger factors of children's traffic accident at children safeguard zone. Secondly, each factor is given danger level depending on danger degree and suggests effective method for assignment standard of children safeguard zone using all of these things.

This study classifies the types of urban railway stations that reflect the location characteristics of urban railway stations, the structure and form of station taxes, and the number of users, and the level of inconvenience in the transfer movement line for users by station type, the number and connectivity of transfer information, and the level of transfer convenience facilities. The number of installations, conflicts between users, and transfer information signs were analyzed. As a result of data analysis, it was found that the factors that cause the most inconvenience to urban rail users when transferring are the length and curvature of the transfer line, pedestrian density and number of passengers in the transfer passage, presence or absence of transportation convenience facilities, and the size and height of transfer information letters. These transfer inconveniences were objectified, quantified, and presented as evaluation indicators that can measure the transfer convenience of urban railway stations. Additionally, an evaluation scale was developed to measure the service level for each evaluation indicator. The evaluation scale for each indicator presented six levels by applying linear interpolation based on the maximum and minimum values of data derived through field surveys. However, it is judged that a comprehensive evaluation of transfer convenience that combines the importance and weight of each convenience evaluation indicator should be established through future research.
