Effects of Step Length Change on Kinetic Characteristics While Stepping Over an Obstacle From a Position of Quiet Stance in Young and Elderly Adults: A Preliminary Study

  • The aim of the present study was to investigate age-related differences in stepping behavior in response to sensory perturbations of postural balance. The participants for this study were 2 healthy elderly adults (mean age=76.0) and 2 younger adults (mean age=25.5). Subjects were asked to step over a 10 cm high obstacle at self-paced speed with the right limb to land on the primary target (normal step length) that is 10 cm in diameter. However, if, during movement, the light was illuminated, then the subject had to step on the secondary target (long step length). It was planned that the onset of the light would be prior to peak Fx of swing limb, between swing peak Fx and swing toe-off, and after swing toe-off. In the younger adults these secondary visual cues were provided at mean times of 240 ms (standard deviation (SD)=11), 402 ms (SD=13), and 476 ms (SD=88) following the movement onset. Corresponding mean times for the healthy elderly were 150 ms (SD=67), 352 ms (SD=39), and 562 ms (SD=115). Results showed great changes in both group and visual cue condition in Fx ground reaction forces and temporal events following the swing toe-off. Swing limb acceleration force (Fx) and stance peak Fx1 was much greater in the young adults compared to the older adults. Both young and older adults increased stance peak Fx2 in the visual cue condition compared to normal stepping. There was no difference in stance peak Fx2 between the visual cue conditions in both groups. Similarly, the time to stance peak Fx2 was much longer for the visual cue condition than for the normal stepping. It was not different between the visual cue conditions in the young adults, but in the elderly mid and late cue was much greater than early cue. In addition, time to stance peak Fx2 and swing and stance time were much longer in the older adults compared to the young adults for the visual cue conditions. These results suggest that unlike young adults, elderly adults did not flexibly modify their responses to unexpected changes in step length while stepping over obstacles.

멀티레이트 신호처리와 동적 래이턴스 보정에 의한 단일 응답 유발전위 뇌파 추출 (Estimation of single-trial event-related potentials using multirate signal processing latency compensation)

  • We present an average method based on the multirate signal processing and dynamic allocation average for the purpose of monitoring event-related potentials(ERP) and continuously and dynamically. In the proposed method, first, latency shifts are detected through the cross correlation between a current response and the reference response. Then, the multirate signal processing which is composed of up-sampler, lowpass filter, and down sampler is performed to compensate the latency shifts of the reference response, therefore we obtain the reference response with a peak latencies compenated by those of a current response. Finally, the single response is obtained by averaging the compensated reference response and a current response. In the simulation, the results of quantitative evaluation by simulation and the results using linical data are presented. From the result, the proposed method reflects dynamic time-varying ERP more exactly than previous methods and is also effective in consecutive monitoring of ERP.

  • 본 연구(硏究)에서는 지진(地震)하중을 받는 선형비례감쇠(線形比例減衰) 시스템의 층응답(層應答) 스펙트럼을 random vibration 이론(理論)을 적용하여 계산(計算)하는 방법을 제시(提示)하였다. 해석(解析)방법으로는 모드가속도법(加速度法)을 사용하였으며 구조물(構造物)-기기(機器)의 상호작용(相互作用)은 고려하지 않았다. 입력지진운동(入力地震運動)과 기기(機器)의 응답(應答)을 평균(平均)값이 영(零)인 정상(定常) Gauss 과정(過程)으로 가정하였다. 입력지진(入力地震)의 천이특성을 Vanmarcke 방법(方法)에 따라 첨두계수(尖頭係數) 계산시 고려하였다. 층응답(層應答) 스펙트럼을 공진(共振)과 비공진(非共振)으로 구분(區分)하여 계산하였으며 응답(應答)계산시 구조물(構造物)과 진동체(振動體)의 첨두계수(尖頭係數)는 지반응답(地盤應答) 스펙트럼의 첨두계수(尖頭係數)와 동일(同一)하다고 가정하였다. 적용예(適用例)에서는 시간이력해석(時間履歷解析)의 결과와 비교(比較)함으로써 본 연구(硏究)의 타당성(妥當性)을 입증(立證)하였다. 본(本) 논문(論文)의 해석방법(解析方法)을 사용(使用)하면 비교적(比較的) 정확(正確)한 안전측(安全側)의 결과(結果)를 얻을 수 있으며 시간이력해석법(時間履歷解析法)에 비해 계산시간(計算時間)을 상당(相當)히 절약할 수 있다.

수문응답의 지형학적 합성방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Geomorphologic Synthesis of Hydrologic Response)

  • 지형화적 순간단위도 이론을 이용하여 강우-유출 수문곡선을 재현할 수 있는 합성단위도법을 연구하였다. 지형학적 순간단위도는 Gupta등이 제한한 이론을 이용하였고, 응답함수는 2변수 감마분포를 사용하였다. 응답함수의 매개변수결정은 Rosso가 유도한 Horton의 지형법칙에 대한 회귀방정식과 유역지체시간의 저유계수에 대한 상관식을 이용하였다. 유도된 합성단위도의 적용성을 검토하기 위해 한강수계의 평창강과 낙동강수계의 위천유역에 대한 실측치와 비교하였다. 그리고 모멘트법과 불안전 감마함수를 사용한 최소자승법을 이용하여 수문응답의 재현정도를 비교 검토함으로서 본 연구에서 확립된 방법의 적용 타당성을 입증하였다. 분석결과 유도된 합성단위도는 첨두유량, 도달시간 그리고 수분곡선의 실측치에 대한 재현성이 비교적 높았으며, 미계측 유역의 유출해석에 중요한 수단을 제공할 것으로 판단되었다.

Dynamic response of free-end rod with consideration of wave frequency

  • The energy transferred on drill rods by dynamic impact mainly determines the penetration depth for in-situ tests. In this study, the dynamic response and transferred energy of drill rods are determined from the frequency of the stress waves. AW-type drill rods of lengths 1 to 3 m are prepared, and strain gauges and an accelerometer are installed at the head and tip of the connected rods. The drill rods are hung on strings, allowing free vibration, and then impacted by a pendulum hammer with fixed potential energy. Increasing the rod length L increases the wave roundtrip time (2L/c, where c is the wave velocity), and hence the transferred energy at the rod head. At the rod tip, the first velocity peak is higher than the first force peak because a large and tensile stress wave is reflected, and the transferred energy converges to zero. The resonant frequency increases with rod length in the waveforms measured by the strain gauges, and fluctuates in the waveforms measured by the accelerometer. In addition, the dynamic response and transferred energy are perturbed when the cutoff frequency is lower than 2 kHz. This study implies that the resonant frequency should be considered for the interpretation of transferred energy on drill rods.

임베디드 시스템의 정확성 향상을 위한 클럭 주파수 검출기 (A Clock Frequency Detector for Improving Certainty of the Embedded System)

  • In this paper, the frequency detector which detects the clock frequency of the embedded system is proposed and analyzed. The proposed frequency detector is consisted of filter and peak voltage detector. The clock signal is converted from square wave to triangular wave by the filter. The peak voltage of the triangular wave is determined according to the frequency response of filter. The peak voltage detector detects and holds the peak voltage of the signal. Moreover, the proposed clock frequency detector can detect the frequency within 1ms and it gives guarantee of real-time operation.

Adaptive Digital Predictive Peak Current Control Algorithm for Buck Converters

  • Digital current control techniques are an attractive option for DC-DC converters. In this paper, a digital predictive peak current control algorithm is presented for buck converters that allows the inductor current to track the reference current in two switching cycles. This control algorithm predicts the inductor current in a future period by sampling the input voltage, output voltage and inductor current of the current period, which overcomes the problem of hardware periodic delay. Under the premise of ensuring the stability of the system, the response speed is greatly improved. A real-time parameter identification method is also proposed to obtain the precision coefficient of the control algorithm when the inductance is changed. The combination of the two algorithms achieves adaptive tracking of the peak inductor current. The performance of the proposed algorithms is verified using simulations and experimental results. In addition, its performance is compared with that of a conventional proportional-integral (PI) algorithm.

  • By using simulated ground motions, which is sum of earthquake signals and noise, we measured the distortion of response spectra due to noise. We found that the distortion is more closely related to the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of root-mean-square (RMS) measurement than that of conventional peak measurement. Given a S/M ratio, the distortion of absolute acceleration response spectra is independent on the earthquake magnitude, while that of relative displacement response spectra has a strong dependence on the earthquake magnitude. This means that, when we calculate response spectra from time histories, we can efficiently predict the distortion of acceleration response spectra simply by measuring the RMS SJN ratios, or the distortion of displacement response spectra by combining the RMS S/N ratios and the earthquake magnitudes.

  • In this paper, peak detector of generator output voltage and variable gain controller is introduced for the fast dynamic response. The general r.m.s. detecting signal of generator has inherent time delay from the actual signal. So the dynamic response of generator using conventional PID controller has some problem in sudden load change. In order to overcome this problem, the peak detector and signal selector with variable gain controller is used in this paper. The proposed control scheme is verified from experimental test of 200kW diesel engine-generator.

  • This paper presents an experimental study of the surge response characteristics for the primary winding of a pole transformer and ultimately aims at devising countermeasures against the surge in operating transformer. After applying the impulse voltage to the primary of the 30 kVA pole transformer with single bushing, the voltage waveforms were measured at each tap lead and compared with one another. As a result, the voltage peak of the surge propagating in the primary was decreased in magnitude at a constant rate and somewhat delayed compared to the peak of the applied surge as the tap leads were getting closer to the grounding terminal. The voltage measured at the secondary was not delayed in time, different from that at the primary, and it was about 1/6 according to the turn ratio.
