  • In this paper, we peformed the real-time implementation of AMR(Adaptive Multi-Rate) speech coding algorithm which is adopted for IMT-2000 service using TMS320C6201, i.e., a Texas Instrument´s fixed-point DSP. With the ANSI C source code released from ETSI, optimization is performed to make it run in real-time with memory as small as possible using the C compiler and assembly language. Implemented AMR speech codec has the size of 32.06 kWords program memory, 9.75 kWords data RAM memory, and 19.89 kWords data ROM memory. And, The time required for processing one frame of 20 ms length speech data is about 4.38 ms, and it is short enough for real-time operation. It is verified that the decoded result of the implemented speech codec on the DSP is identical with the PC simulation result using ANSI C code for test sequences. Also, actual sound input/output test using microphone and speaker demonstrates its proper real-time operation without distortions or delays.

  • To organize training in limited training area for an actuai combat, realistic training simulation plugged in by various battle conditions is essential. In this paper, we propose a virtual target overlay technique which does not use a virtual image, but Projects a virtual target on ground-based CCD image by appointed scenario for a realistic training simulation. In the proposed method, we create a realistic 3D model (for an instructor) by using high resolution Geographic Tag Image File Format(GeoTIFF) satellite image and Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED), and extract the road area from a given CCD image (for both an instructor and a trainee). Satellite images and ground-based sensor images have many differences in observation position, resolution, and scale, thus yielding many difficulties in feature-based matching. Hence, we propose a moving synchronization technique that projects the target on the sensor image according to the marked moving path on 3D satellite image by applying Thin-Plate Spline(TPS) interpolation function, which is an image warping function, on the two given sets of corresponding control point pair. To show the experimental result of the proposed method, we employed two Pentium4 1.8MHz personal computer systems equipped with 512MBs of RAM, and the satellite and sensor images of Daejoen area are also been utilized. The experimental result revealed the effective-ness of proposed algorithm.

  • The Motion controllers provide the sophisticated performance and enhanced capabilities we can see in the movements of robotic systems. Several types of motion controllers are available, some based on the kind of overall control system in use. PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)-based motion controllers still predominate. The many peoples use MCU (Micro Controller Unit)-based board level motion controllers and will continue to in the near-term future. These motion controllers control a variety motor system like robotic systems. Generally, They consist of large and complex circuits. PLC-based motion controller consists of high performance PLC, development tool, and application specific software. It can be cause to generate several problems that are large size and space, much cabling, and additional high coasts. MCU-based motion controller consists of memories like ROM and RAM, I/O interface ports, and decoder in order to operate MCU. Additionally, it needs DPRAM to communicate with host PC, counter to get position information of motor by using encoder signal, additional circuits to control servo, and application specific software to generate a various velocity profiles. It can be causes to generate several problems that are overall system complexity, large size and space, much cabling, large power consumption and additional high costs. Also, it needs much times to calculate velocity profile because of generating by software method and don't generate various velocity profiles like arbitrary velocity profile. Therefore, It is hard to generate expected various velocity profiles. And further, to embed real-time OS (Operating System) is considered for more reliable motion control. In this paper, the structure of chip-based precision motion controller is proposed to solve above-mentioned problems of control systems. This proposed motion controller is designed with a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) by using the VHDL (Very high speed integrated circuit Hardware Description Language) and Handel-C that is program language for deign hardware. This motion controller consists of Velocity Profile Generator (VPG) part to generate expected various velocity profiles, PCI Interface part to communicate with host PC, Feedback Counter part to get position information by using encoder signal, Clock Generator to generate expected various clock signal, Controller part to control position of motor with generated velocity profile and position information, and Data Converter part to convert and transmit compatible data to D/A converter.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a runoff analysis system of the Nakdong River watershed using the GRM (Grid-based Rainfall-runoff Model), a physically-based distributed rainfall-runoff model, and to assess the system run time performance according to Microsoft Azure VM (Virtual Machine) settings. Nakdong River watershed was divided into 20 sub-watersheds, and GRM model was constructed for each subwatershed. Runoff analysis of each watershed was calculated in separated CPU process that maintained the upstream and downstream topology. MoLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) real-time radar rainfall and dam discharge data were applied to the analysis. Runoff analysis system was run in Azure environment, and simulation results were displayed through web page. Based on this study, the Nakdong River real-time runoff analysis system, which consisted of a real-time data server, calculation node (Azure), and user PC, could be developed. The system performance was more dependent on the CPU than RAM. Disk I/O and calculation bottlenecks could be resolved by distributing disk I/O and calculation processes, respectively, and simulation runtime could thereby be decreased. The study results could be referenced to construct a large watershed runoff analysis system using a distributed model with high resolution spatial and hydrological data.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of climate change on the survival and growth performance of Pinus densiflora and Larix kaempferi seedlings using open-field experimental warming and precipitation manipulation. We measured the survival rate, root-collar diameter, and height, and then calculated the seedling quality index (SQI) of 2-year-old seedlings under 6 treatments [2 temperatures (TC: Control; TW: Warming) × 3 precipitation manipulations (PC: Control; PD: Decreased; PI: Increased)] and performed a two-way ANOVA to test for differences. The air temperature of the warming plots was 3℃ higher than that of the control plots, while the precipitation manipulation plots received ±40% of the precipitation received by the control plots. Temperature and precipitation treatments did not significantly affect the survival rate of P. densiflora; however, the SQI of P. densiflora decreased with increasing precipitation. In contrast, the mortality rate of L. kaempferi increased with increasing temperature and decreasing precipitation. Furthermore, in L. kaempferi, TC × PI treatment resulted in the lowest SQI with a significant interaction effect observed between the two factors. In summary, low seedling production and quality should be expected in P. densiflora as precipitation increases and in L. kaempferi as temperature increases or precipitation decreases. These results indicate species-specific sensitivities to climate change of two plant species at the nursery stage. With the occurrence of global warming, the frequencies of drought and heavy rainfall events are increased, and this could affect the survival and seedling quality of tree species. Therefore, it is necessary to improve nursery techniques by establishing new adaptation strategies based on species-specific growth performance responses.

  • The analog image based system consisted of a simulator and medical linear accelerator (LINAC) for radiotherapy was upgraded to digital medical image based system by exchanging the X-ray film with Computed Radiography (CR). With minimum equipments shift and similar treatment process, it was possible that the new digital image system was adapted by the users in short time. The film cassette and the film developer device were substituted with a CR cassette and a CR Reader, where the ViewBox was replaced with a small size PC and a monitor. The viewer software suitable for radiotherapy was developed to maximize the benefit of digital image, and as the result the convenience and the effectiveness was improved. It has two windows to display two different images in the same time and equipped various search capability, contouring, window leveling, image resizing, translation, rotation and registration functions. In order to avoid any discontinuance of the treatment while the transition to digital image, the film and the CR was used together for 1 week, and then the film developer was removed. Since then the CR System has been operated stably for 2 months, and the various requests from users have been reflected to improve the system.

So printed electronics appeared by new concept. This technology development is applied on electronic components and circuits for the simplification of the production process and reduce processing costs. Low-temperature process making possible for widening, slimmer, lighter, and more flexible, plastic substrates, such as(flexible) easily by forming a thin film on a substrate has been studied. In the past, the formation of the electrode used a screen printing method. But the screen printing method is formation of fine patterns, high-speed printing, mass production is difficult. The roll-to-roll printing method as an alternative to screen printing to produce electronic devices by printing techniques that were used traditionally in the latest technology and processing techniques applied to precision control are very economical to implement fine-line printing equipment has been evaluated as. In order to function as electronic devices, especially the dozens of existing micro-level of non-dot print fine line printing is required, the line should not break at all, because according to the specifications required to fit the ink transfer conditions should be established. In this study of roll-to-roll printing conductive paste suitable for gravure offset printing by developing Ag paste for forming fine patterns to study the basic physical properties with the aim of this study were to.

  • Thermal stability of $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ (GST) and $SiO_2$ doped GST (SGST) films for phase change random access memory applications was investigated by observing the change of surface roughness, layer density and composition of both films after isothermal annealing. After both GST and SGST films were annealed at $325^{\circ}C$ for 20 min, root mean square (RMS) surface roughness of GST was increased from 1.9 to 35.9 nm but that of SGST was almost unchanged. Layer density of GST also steeply decreased from 72.48 to 68.98 $g/cm^2$ and composition was largely varied from Ge : Sb : Te = 22.3 : 22.1 : 55.6 to 24.2 : 22.7 : 53.1, while those of SGST were almost unchanged. It was confirmed that the addition of a small amount of $SiO_2$ into GST film restricted the deterioration of physical and chemical properties of GST film, resulting in the better thermal stability after isothermal annealing.

  • Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora) is one of the major Pinus species in Korea. Red pine bark is removed prior to the chipping process in the wood industry and discarded as waste. However, red pine bark contains a considerable amount of naturally occurring phenolics, including flavonoids, and therefore may have a variety of biological effects. In this study, we investigated if Korean red pine bark extract (KRPBE) could protect neuronal PC-12 cells from oxidative stress and inhibit cholinesterase activity. Analysis of reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography results revealed four phenolics in KRPBE: vanillin, protocatechuic acid, catechin, and taxifolin. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents of KRPBE were 397.9 mg gallic acid equivalents/g dry weight (DW) and 248.7 mg catechin equivalents/g DW, respectively. The antioxidant capacities of KRPBE measured using ABTS, DPPH, and ORAC assays were 697.3, 521.8, and 2,627.7 mg vitamin C equivalents/g DW, respectively. KRPBE and its identified phenolics protected against $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative cell death in a dose-dependent manner. Acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, which degrade the neurotransmitter acetylcholine to terminate neurotransmission in synaptic clefts, were inhibited by treatment with KRPBE and its identified phenolics. Taken together, these results suggest that KRPBE and its constituent antioxidative phenolics are potent neuroprotective agents that can maintain cell viability under oxidative stress and inhibit cholinesterase activity.
