  • In this paper we proposed a new scheme for conditional two dimensional (2-D)moment-based classification of patterns on the basis of Gibbs random fields which are will suited for representing spatial continuity that is the characteristic of the most images. This implementation contains two parts: feature extraction and pattern classification. First of all, we extract feature vector which consists of conditional 2-D moments on the basis of estimated Gibbs parameter. Note that the extracted feature vectors are invariant under translation, rotation, size of patterns the corresponding template pattern. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, classification experiments with training document sets of characters have been carried out on 486 66Mhz PC. Experiments reveal that the proposed scheme has high classification rate over 94%.

  • In this paper we mose a new scheme for recognition of deformed letters by extracting feature vectors based on Gibbs distributions which are well suited for representing the spatial continuity. The extracted feature vectors are comprised of 2-D conditional moments which are invariant under translation, rotation, and scale of an image. The Algorithm for pattern recognition of deformed letters contains two parts: the extraction of feature vector and the recognition process. (i) We extract feature vector which consists of an improved 2-D conditional moments on the basis of estimated conditional Gibbs distribution for an image. (ii) In the recognition phase, the minimization of the discrimination cost function for a deformed letters determines the corresponding template pattern. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, recognition experiments with a generated document was conducted. on Workstation. Experiment results reveal that the proposed scheme has high recognition rate over 96%.

  • Cubic mesocrystal $CeO_2$ was synthesized via a hydrothermal method with glutamic acid ($C_5H_9NO_4$) as a template. The XRD pattern of a calcined sample shows the face-centered cubic fluorite structure of ceria. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern revealed that the submicron cubic mesocrystals were composed of many small crystals attached to each other with the same orientation. The UV-visible adsorption spectrum exhibited the red-shift phenomenon of mesocrystal $CeO_2$ compared to commercial $CeO_2$ particles; thus, the prepared materials show tremendous potential to degrade organic dyes under visible light illumination. With a concentration of a rhodamine B solution of 20 mg/L and a catalyst amount of 0.1 g/L, the reaction showed higher photocatalytic performance following irradiation with a xenon lamp (${\geq}380nm$). The decoloring rate can exceed 100% after 300 min.

  • RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) analysis was conducted to Schisandra nigra plants in order to select the specific markers for monoecious and dioecious individuals. RAPD results using eighty random 10-mer primers revealed that S. nigra had a different banding pattern from S. chinensis and Kadsura japonica. When DNA isolated from leaves of monoecious and dioecious plants were used as PCR template, only five primers, OPA-17, OPA-19, OPB-03, OPB-09 and OFB-16, showed polymorphic band patterns. No variation in banding profiles within male or female individuals was observed when these five primers were used whereas three monoecious plants (No 1, No 2 and No 3) showed different banding patterns one another, A 750 bp segment was amplified by primer OPB-3 from male individuals. On the other hand, two segments, 950 bp and 1690 bp, with OPA-19 and 700 bp of segment with OPB-3 were amplified in female individuals. These result indicate that the specific buds of male and female S. nigra could be used as genetic markers for the early discrimination of male and female individuals.

  • Objective: Iris pattern recognition system is well developed and practiced in human, however, there is a scarcity of information on application of iris recognition system in animals at the field conditions where the major challenge is to capture a high-quality iris image from a constantly moving non-cooperative animal even when restrained properly. The aim of the study was to validate and identify Black Bengal goat biometrically to improve animal management in its traceability system. Methods: Forty-nine healthy, disease free, 3 months±6 days old female Black Bengal goats were randomly selected at the farmer's field. Eye images were captured from the left eye of an individual goat at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of age using a specialized camera made for human iris scanning. iGoat software was used for matching the same individual goats at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of ages. Resnet152V2 deep learning algorithm was further applied on same image sets to predict matching percentages using only captured eye images without extracting their iris features. Results: The matching threshold computed within and between goats was 55%. The accuracies of template matching of goats at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of ages were recorded as 81.63%, 90.24%, 44.44%, and 16.66%, respectively. As the accuracies of matching the goats at 9 and 12 months of ages were low and below the minimum threshold matching percentage, this process of iris pattern matching was not acceptable. The validation accuracies of resnet152V2 deep learning model were found 82.49%, 92.68%, 77.17%, and 87.76% for identification of goat at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of ages, respectively after training the model. Conclusion: This study strongly supported that deep learning method using eye images could be used as a signature for biometric identification of an individual goat.

  • This investigation confirms that silver stearate consists of an infinite-sheet, two-dimensional, nonmolecular layered structure. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and infrared spectroscopy reveal the following: plate-like morphology is identified from the SEM image, XRD peaks can be indexed to the (0k0) reflections of a layered structure, and infrared peaks show that alkyl chains are present in an all-trans conformational state with little or no significant gauche population. Based on these structural characteristics, we demonstrate that silver stearate, a prototype of layered organic-inorganic hybrid material, can be grown not only in a designed two-dimensional pattern but also in three-dimensionally ordered ways by using carboxyl-group terminated nanoparticles as a template.

  • Conventionally, biological manipulations have been performed manually with long training and pretty low success rates. To overcome this problem, a novel biological manipulation system has been developed to manipulate biological cells without any interference of a human operator, In this paper, we demonstrate a development of tole-autonomous Cell Manipulation System (CMS) using an image processing at a remote site. The CMS consists of two manipulators, a plane stage, and an optical microscope. We developed deformable template-model-matching algorithm for micro objects and pattern matching algorithm of end effect for these manipulators in order to control manipulators and the stage. Through manipulation of biological cells using these algorithms, the performance of the CMS is verified experimentally.

  • Transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films have many disadvantages, such as rarity, possible exhaustion, process temperature limitations, and brittleness on a flexible substrate. In particular, as display technology moves toward flexible displays, TCO will become completely unsuitable due to its brittleness. To address theses issue, many researchers have been studying TCO substitutes. In recent efforts, metal nanowires, conducting polymers, carbon nanotube networks, graphene films, hybrid thin films, and metal meshes/grids have been evaluated as candidates to replace TCO electrodes. In this study, we fabricated the TCO film with Ag meshes shape using polystyrene (PS) beads monolayer on the substrate. The PS beads were used as a template to create the mesh pattern. We fabricated the monolayer on the flexible substrate (PES) with the well-aligned PS beads. Electrodes with Ag mesh shape were formed using this patterned monolayer. We could fabricated the Ag mesh electrode with the sheet resistance with $8ohm{\Omega}/{\Box}$.

  • We fabricated a polymer sub-microstructure for optical device application by two-photon-induced laser lithography technique. Polymer pattern could be minimized as small as ${\sim}100\;nm$. The photopolymerization resin contains laser-dye, thus promising a high level of the optical gain. We utilized the lithography technique to the photonic crystal application, where the template of the two-dimensional photonic crystal was modified by polymer gain medium as defect-shape and line-shape orientations. Photonic band gap effect from polymer-doped photonic crystals is expected to exploit the application such as organic solid-state laser device.
