  • In this paper, we studied the brain-computer interface (BCI). BCIs help severely disabled people to control external devices by analyzing their brain signals evoked from motor imageries. The findings in the field of neurophysiology revealed that the power of $\beta$(14-26 Hz) and $\mu$(8-12 Hz) rhythms decreases or increases in synchrony of the underlying neuronal populations in the sensorymotor cortex when people imagine the movement of their body parts. These are called Event-Related Desynchronization / Synchronization (ERD/ERS), respectively. We implemented a BCI-based mouse interface system which enabled subjects to control a computer mouse cursor into four different directions (e.g., up, down, left, and right) by analyzing brain signal patterns online. Tongue, foot, left-hand, and right-hand motor imageries were utilized to stimulate a human brain. We used a non-invasive EEG which records brain's spontaneous electrical activity over a short period of time by placing electrodes on the scalp. Because of the nature of the EEG signals, i.e., low amplitude and vulnerability to artifacts and noise, it is hard to analyze and classify brain signals measured by EEG directly. In order to overcome these obstacles, we applied statistical machine-learning techniques. We could achieve high performance in the classification of four motor imageries by employing Common Spatial Pattern (CSP) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) which transformed input EEG signals into a new coordinate system making the variances among different motor imagery signals maximized for easy classification. From the inspection of the topographies of the results, we could also confirm ERD/ERS appeared at different brain areas for different motor imageries showing the correspondence with the anatomical and neurophysiological knowledge.

  • The effect of wavelet pair choice in the compression of the satellite images is studied. There is a trade-off between compression rate and perception quality. The encoding ratio is used to express the compression rate, and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) is also used for the perceptional performance. The PSNR and the encoding ratio are not matched well for the images with various wavelet pairs, but the tendency is remarkable. It is hard to find the pattern of PSNR for sampled images. On the other hand, there is a pattern of the variation range of the encoding ratio for each image. The satellite images have larger values of the encoding ratio than those of nature images (close range images). Depending on the wavelet pairs, the PSNR and the encoding ratio vary as much as 13.2 to 21.6% and 16.8 to 45.5%, respectively for each image. For Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images the encoding ratio varies from 16 to 20% while for the nature images it varies more than 40% depending on the choice of wavelet pairs. The choice of wavelet for the compression affects the nature images more than the satellite images. With the indices such as the PSNR and the encoding ratio, the satellite images are less sensitive to the choice of wavelet pairs. A new index, energy concentration ratio (ECR) is proposed to investigate the effect of wavelet choice on the satellite image compression. It also shows that the satellite images are less sensitive than the nature images. Nevertheless, the effect of wavelet choice on the satellite image compression varies at least 10% for all three kinds of indices. However, the important of choice of wavelet pairs cannot be ignored.

  • Recently, the results of many studies have clarified the successful performance of magnetostrictive transducers in which a ferromagnetic patch is used for the transduction of guided shear waves; this is because a thin ferromagnetic patch with strong magnetostriction is very useful for generating and detecting shear wave. This investigation deals with bulk shear wave transduction by means of magnetostriction; on the other hand, the existing studies have been focused on guided shear waves. A modular transducer was developed; this transducer comprised a coil, magnets, and a thin ferromagnetic patch that was made of Fe-Co alloy. Some experiments were conducted to verify the performance of the developed transducer. Radiation directivity pattern of the developed transducer was obtained, and a test to detect the damage on a side drill hole of a steel block specimen was carried out. From the results of these tests, the good performance of the transducer for nondestructive testing was verified on the basis of the signal-to-noise ratio and narrow beam directivity.

  • We proposed more efficient encoding methods that can design a multi-channel multi-level phase only computer-generated hologram(CGH) that can reconstruct many objects simultaneously without a conjugate image. We used a fabrication technique for the pixel oriented CGH for designing the pattern of the proposed multi-channel CGH. We investigated the difference of the optical efficiency(η), mean square error(MSE) and signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of multi-channel CGHs that were designed by three kinds of encoding methods according to the number of quantization phase levels, and we estimated the performance of the pattern of the proposed multi-channel CGH. Generally, as the number of input objects' reference patterns stored in the CGH is increased, the reconstruction quality of the CGH is degraded. But we observed through computer simulation that the diffraction efficiency of the 1-ch CGH is 70%, and those of the 2-ch, 4-ch, 8-ch CGHs are 62%, 62% and 63%. Therefore we found that the diffraction efficiencies of the multi-channel CGHs using the newly proposed encoding method are similar to that of 1-ch CGH. We implemented the CGH optically using a liquid crystal spatial light phase modulator that consisted of a PAL-SLM efficiently coupled with a XGA type LCD by an optical lens and an LD for illuminating the LCD. We discussed the output images that are reconstructed from the PAL-SLM.

  • P wave is cardiac parameters that represent the electrical and physiological characteristics, it is very important to diagnose atrial arrhythmia. However, It is very difficult to detect because of the small size compared to R wave and the various morphology. Several methods for detecting P wave has been proposed, such as frequency analysis and non-linear approach. However, in the case of conduction abnormality such as AV block or atrial arrhythmia, detection accuracy is at the lower level. We propose P wave detection algorithm through adaptive threshold and QRS peak variability. For this purpose, we detected Q, R, S wave from noise-free ECG signal through the preprocessing method. And then we classified three pattern of P wave by peak variability and detected adaptive window and threshold. The performance of P wave detection is evaluated by using 48 record of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The achieved scores indicate the average detection rate of 92.60%.

  • A quaternary alloy film of $CoCr_{16.2}Pt_{10.8}Ta_4$was investigated for its magnetic properties and c-axis orientation with and without Ti underlayer. Additional elements such as Ta, Pt have been frequently introduced in CoCr alloy film for perpendicular recording as a means of improving magnetic performance. It has been reported that the addition of Pt and Ta in CoCr increase the coercivity and the magnetic isolation of columnar grains, respectively. However, CoCrPtTa perpendicular magnetic layer should be more increased its perpendicular magnetic anisotropy than at present for the application of ultrahigh recording density. The improvement of underlayers and substrate materials is one of the promised schemes to intensify the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. In this study, the insertion of Ti underlayer shows the remarkable improvement of c-axis orientation compare with the direct deposition on the bare glass. The mechanism about this effect of Ti underlayer on CoCrPtTa is not to be clarified yet. Meanwhile, it is found that the magnetic domain of CoCrPtTa on 20 nm Ti underlayer has the continuous stripe pattern but the one of CoCrPtTa on 90 nm Ti underlayer shows the discrete mass type from the results of MFM investigation. This phenomenon is to be a distinct evidence that the improvement of perpendicular anisotropy by the adoption of Ti underlayer is originated from the reinforcement of the grain boundary segregation in CoCrPtTa alloy. Moreover, the transition of the M-H hysteresis pattern with the thickness of Ti underlayer indicates that the major contribution of Ti underlayer is not the magnetocrystalline anisotropy but the shape anisotropy due to the formation of uniform columnar grains by the nonmagnetic alloy segregation.

  • In general, QRS duration represent a distance of Q start and S end point. However, since criteria of QRS duration are vague and Q, S point is not detected accurately, arrhythmia classification performance can be reduced. In this paper, we propose extraction of Q, S start and end point RS feature based on phase transition tracking method after we detected R wave that is large peak of electrocardiogram(ECG) signal. For this purpose, we detected R wave, from noise-free ECG signal through the preprocessing method. Also, we classified QRS pattern through differentiation value of ECG signal and extracted Q, S start and end point by tracking direction and count of phase based on R wave. The performance of R wave detection is evaluated by using 48 record of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The achieved scores indicate the average detection rate of 99.60%. PVC classification is evaluated by using 9 record of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database that included over 30 premature ventricular contraction(PVC). The achieved scores indicate the average detection rate of 94.12% in PVC.

  • Detection limit as well as calibration curves on organophosphorus pesticide(dimethoate, diazinon, parathion-methyl, fenitrothion, malathion) and BHCs were measured for evaluation of utility on qualitative or quantitative analysis of pesticides with ion Trap mass spectrometer and quadrupole mass spectrometer. As ionization source, EI and CI were adopted for qualitative analysis of pesticides by comparison of each fragmentation pattern. At the same time, the utility as trace analysis techniques through scan or selected ion monitoring(SIM) mode was evaluated. With ion trap for all pesticides, detection limit(DL, 1 ${\mu}L$ injection) on scan mode was ranged 0.008∼0.225 ng at signal to noise ratio 3. With quadrupole DL on scan mode was ranged 0.23∼3.1 ng over 0.032∼0.68 ng on SIM mode. The calibration curve with ion trap generated good linearity over 0.99 as correlation coefficient. As clean up procedure, Bio Beads S-X3 was used for the separation of oils from five organophosphorous pesticides in flour extractant showing more than 80% as recovery at most cases. In case of BHCs in jinseng with Florisil column, the recovery of pesticides has been 60% to 90%.

For the Purpose, we First Set a Logo Image to be used for Digital Watermark and Design a Binary Phase Computer Generated Hologram for this Logo Image using an Iterative Algorithm. And Random Generated Binary Phase Mask to be set as a Watermark and Key Image is Obtained through XOR Operation between Binary Phase CGH and Random Binary Phase Mask. Object Image is Phase Modulated to be a Constant Amplitude and Multiplied with Binary Phase Mask to Generate Object Wave. This Object Wave can be said to be a First Encrypted Image Having a Pattern Similar to the Noise Including the Watermark Information. Finally, we Interfere the First Encrypted Image with Reference Wave using 2-step PSDH and get a Good Visible Interference Pattern to be Called Second Encrypted Image. The Decryption Process is Proceeded with Fresnel Transform and Inverse Process of First Encryption Process After Appropriate Arithmetic Operation with Two Encrypted Images. The Proposed Encryption and Decryption Process is Confirmed through the Computer Simulations.

  • Biomedical signal measurement technology using images has been developed, and researches on respiration signal measurement technology for maintaining life have been continuously carried out. The existing technology measured respiratory signals through a thermal imaging camera that measures heat emitted from a person's body. In addition, research was conducted to measure respiration rate by analyzing human chest movement in real time. However, the image processing using the infrared thermal image may be difficult to detect the respiratory organ due to the external environmental factors (temperature change, noise, etc.), and thus the accuracy of the measurement of the respiration rate is low.In this study, the images were acquired using visible light and infrared thermal camera to enhance the area of the respiratory tract. Then, based on the two images, features of the respiratory tract region are extracted through processes such as face recognition and image matching. The pattern of the respiratory signal is classified through the k-nearest neighbor classifier, which is one of the statistical classification methods. The respiration rate was calculated according to the characteristics of the classified patterns and the possibility of breathing rate measurement was verified by analyzing the measured respiration rate with the actual respiration rate.
