Analysis of Salinity Impacts on Agricultural and Urban Water Users

  • The Rio Grande Compact Commission, in collaboration with local water management entities, water users and universities established a three state Rio Grande The Rio Grande Compact Commission, in collaboration with local water management entities, water users and universities established a three state Rio Grande Salinity Management Program. The objectives of the Rio Grande Project Salinity Management Program are to reduce salinity concentrations, loading, and salinity impacts in the Rio Grande basin for the 270 mile river reach from San Acacia, New Mexico to Fort Quitman, Texasto increase usable water supplies for agricultural, urban, and environmental purposes. The focus of this first phase of the program is the development of baseline salinity and hydrologic information and a preliminary assessment of the economic impacts of salinity. An assessment of the economic impacts of salinity in this region was conducted by scientists at Texas A&M University's AgriLife Research Center at El Paso and New Mexico State University. Economic damages attributable to high salinity of Rio Grandewater were estimated for residential, agricultural, municipal, and industrial uses. The major impact issues addressed were: who is being affected the types of economic impacts the magnitude of economic damages overall and by user category and identification of threshold-effect levels for different types of water use. Salinity concentrations in this 270 mile reach of the river typically range from 480 ppm to 1,200 ppm, but can exceed 3,000 ppm in the lower section of this reach. Economic impacts include reductions in agricultural yields, reduced water appliance life, equipment replacement costs, and increased water supply costs. This preliminary economic assessment indicates annual damages of $10.5 million from increased water salinity. Under current water uses, municipal and industrial uses account for 75% of the total estimated impacts. However, agricultural impacts are based on current crop pattern yield reductions and, salinity leaching requirements and do not account for the impacts of reduced revenue from having to grow salinity tolerant, lower value crops. Actual damages are anticipated to be significantly higher with the inclusion of these additional agricultural impacts plus the future impacts from the growing population in the region. A more comprehensive economic analysis is planned for the second phase of this program. Results of the economic analysis are being used to determine the feasiblity of salinity control alternatives and what salinity reduction control measures will be pursued.

연천 합수리 유적 출토 토기·토양의 광물학 및 지구화학적 특성 (Mineralogical and Geochemical Characteristics of Earthenwares and Clay excavated from Hapsuri, Yeoncheon)

  • 연천 합수리 유적의 7호 주거지와 2호 주거지 및 6호 주거지에서 출토된 신석기 시대 토기 2점 (YCP-1, YCP-2), 청동기 시대 토기 2점 (YCP-3, YCP-4), 원삼국 시대 토기 4점 (YCP-5~8)과 토양 1점(YCRM)을 분석하여 토기와 토양의 동질성을 확인하고 토기의 소성온도를 규명하였다. 화학적 성분분석 결과, 토양(YCRM)은 YCP-1, YCP-3, YCP-5, YCP-6, YCP-7, YCP-8의 토기와 동일한 거동 특성을 보였다. 반면, YCP-2와 YCP-4는 활석과 녹니석의 영향으로 MgO의 부화가 나타나 다른 토기나 토양과는 다른 거동특성을 보였다. 또한 흡수율과 비중, 조직특성과 XRD 분석결과를 바탕으로 소성온도를 추정해 보면, YCP-7와 YCP-8은 $870^{\circ}C$이상, YCP-2와 YCP-4의 경우 $800^{\circ}C$이하, YCP-1과 YCP-3, YCP-5, YCP-6은 $800{\sim}870^{\circ}C$의 소성온도를 갖는 것으로 판단된다. 광물 분석결과, 토양은 연천 합수리 유적지 일대의 지질을 반영하며, 토기와의 유사성이 있으므로 유적주변에서 채취되어 토기의 원료물질로 사용된 것으로 추정된다.

아토피 피부염 증례 연구 분석 - 한약 처방을 중심으로 - (Analysis of Case Studies of Treating Atopic Dermatitis - focusing on Korean Herbal Medicine Used in Cases -)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of herbal medicine for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in cases and to find the general tendency of herbal medicine treatment and to establish the primary treatment direction of Atopic dermatitis. Methods : In the domestic databases, Oriental medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System(OASIS), Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal(KTKP), National Discovery for Science Leader(NDSL), Research Information Sharing Service(RISS), we selected among the papers published in the last 20 years using search terms related to "Atopic dermatitis & Cases". Reports based on Sasang constitutional medicine and Six meridian pattern identification were excluded and a total of 21 papers were finally selected. Results : 113 herbal medicines were retrieved from 21 papers. The most commonly used herbs are Scutellariae Radix(黃芩), Rehmanniae Radix(地黃), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma(甘草). Atractylodis Rhizoma(蒼朮), Akebiae Caulis(木通), Smilacis Rhizoma(土茯?), Paeoniae Radix(芍藥) used mostly when Oozing exists, Trichosanthis Radix (瓜蔞), Asparagi Radix(天門冬), Persicae Semen(桃仁), Carthami Flos(紅花) used mostly when Dryness, Lichenification, and Pigmentation exist. The average score of SCORAD index was improved after Herbal medicine treatment. Conclusion : Through this study, we could find out the tendency of herbal medicine to treat Atopic dermatitis along with Symptoms.

일개 대학 교직원 집단에서 고혈압의 위험요인으로서의 평소 한열 예비 연구 (Preliminary Study on Usual Cold or Heat as a Risk Factor for Hypertension in an University Faculty)

  • This study was aimed to reveal that the usual cold or heat state was associated with hypertension and could be a risk. We emailed educational personnel in D university to join this study and 182 subjects participated in from March to December in 2016. The usual cold or heat diagnosis was conducted by two experts who had over 10 years expertise. The blood pressure was measured from the subjected after 10 minute rest with Jawon medical device. The hypertension was diagnosed by the guide of the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure. The frequency analysis was used in general characteristics, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient analysis was conducted in among continuous variables, and chi-square test was also used between hypertension and cold or heat group. Logistic regression was analyzed to generate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for hypertension. The cold score was suggested to have negative association with Body mass Index (BMI, -.374, p<.001), systolic blood pressure (-.333, p<.001), and diastolic pressure (-.261, p<.001). The heat score was analyzed to have positive association with Body mass Index (.413, p<.001), systolic blood pressure (.249, p<.001), and diastolic pressure (.156, p<.001). The distribution of the cold group (35.1%) and non-cold group (64.9%) in hypertension was significantly different (p=0.18). The distribution of the heat group (62.2%) and non-heat group (37.8%) was significantly different (p=0.27). The usual cold was associated with decreased ORs (ORs 0.405, 95% CI=0.191-0.857), and usual heat was associated with increased ORs (ORs 2.327, 95% CI=1.108-4.888). However, after adjusting body mass index, sex, and smoking, the association was not significantly different. It is possible that usual cold or heat associate with hypertension. Further study is needed to show that usual heat may be a independent risk factor for hypertension through follow up design.

  • Background: Unani System of Medicine (USM) has its origin to Greece. To ensure and develop the quality, authenticity of Unani drugs, standardization on modern analytical parameter is essential requirement for drugs. Objectives: The aimed of the present study was to develop a standard profile of "Qurṣ-e-Mafasil" by systematic study through authenticated ingredients, pharmacognostic identification followed by physicochemical, TLC, HPTLC fingerprinting analysis as per standard protocol. Material and Methods: In this study three batches of "Qurṣ-e-Mafasil" QM were prepared by standard method as per UPI had been followed by organoleptic properties of formulation such as appearance, color, odor, taste. Powder Microscopy and physicochemical studies were carried out such as Uniformity of weight, Friability, Disintegration time, hardness, LOD, ash vales and extractive values in like aqueous, alcohol & hexane. Further qualitative tests such as Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC), and High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) studies were also carried out to develop fingerprint pattern of the alcoholic solvent extract of QM. Phytochemical screening was carried out in different solvent extracts such as alcoholic, aqueous and chloroform extracts to detect the presence phytoconstituents in the formulation QM. Heavy metals, Microbial Load Contamination and pesticidal residues were also determined. Results: Qurṣ-e-Mafasil showed tablet-like appearance, light brown colour, mild pungent odour and acrid taste. Uniformity of weight (mg), friability (rpm), and hardness (kg/cm) and disintegration time was ranged between (500 to 503), (0.0340 to 0.038), (8.40 to 8.67) and (4-5 minutes) respectively for the three batches. Loss in weight on drying at 105℃ was ranged between (8.3425 to 8.7346). Extracted values were calculated in distilled water ranged between (30.9091 to 31.4358), hexane (1.1419 to 1.4281), and alcohol (3.3352 to 3.3962). The ash values recorded were ranged between (3.7336 to 3.8378), and acid insoluble ash (0.5859 to 0.6112).

DTW-kNN 기반의 유망 기술 식별을 위한 의사결정 지원 시스템 구현 방안 (Implementation of DTW-kNN-based Decision Support System for Discriminating Emerging Technologies)

  • 본 연구는 기계 학습 기반의 자동 분류 기법을 적용함으로써 유망 기술의 선정 과정에 활용할 수 있는 의사결정 지원 시스템의 구현 방안을 제시하는 것을 목표로 한다. 연구 수행을 위해 전체 시스템의 아키텍처를 구축하고 세부 연구 단계를 진행하였다. 우선, 유망 기술 후보 아이템을 선정하고 빅데이터 시스템을 활용하여 추세 데이터를 자동 생성하였다. 기술 발전의 개념 모델과 패턴 분류 체계를 정의한 후 자동 분류 실험을 통해 효율적인 기계 학습 방안을 제시하였다. 마지막으로 시스템의 분석 결과를 해석하고 활용 방안을 도출하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 제안한 동적 시간 와핑(DTW) 기법과 k-최근접 이웃(kNN) 분류 모델을 결합한 DTW-kNN 기반의 분류 실험에서 최대 87.7%의 식별 성능을 보여주었으며, 특히 추세의 변동이 심한 'eventual' 정의 구간에서는 유클리디언 거리(ED) 알고리즘 대비 39.4% 포인트의 최대 성능 차이를 보여주어 제안 모델의 우수함을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 시스템이 제시하는 분석 결과를 통해, 대량의 추세 데이터를 입력받아 유형별로 자동 분류하고 필터링하는 과정에 본 의사결정 지원 시스템을 효과적으로 활용할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

청심온담탕가미방과 침구치료를 포함한 복합한의치료로 호전된 심인성 떨림 환자 1례 - 증례보고 (A Case of Psychogenic Tremor Improved by Complex Korean Medicine Treatment Including Cheongshimondam-tang-gamibang and Acupuncture Treatment - A Case Report)

  • Objectives: A case study about the effectiveness of integrative Korean medicine treatment in a psychogenic tremor patient. Case presentation: A 36-year-old male diagnosed with psychogenic tremor with low back pain underwent 29 days of inpatient treatment and 4 weeks of outpatient treatment. His pattern identification was a psychogenic tremor of the weakness of the heart and gall bladder (SimDamHeoGup) type. The treatments were herbal medicine and acupuncture. He took Cheongshimondam-tang for 29 days and Chunwangbosim-dan for 6 weeks when he had symptoms. He also received acupuncture for 20 minutes twice a day at GB20 (Pungji), L14 (Hapgok), HT4 (Yeongdo), PC6 (Naegwan), HT7 (Sinmun), GB34 (Yangleungcheon), ST36 (Joksamni), SP6 (Sameumgyo), and LR3 (Taechung). After 8 weeks of treatment, the Fahn Tolosa Marin rating (FTM) scale of his tremor, at rest, dropped from Grade 4 on both upper extremities, trunk, and both lower extremities at the time of admission to Grade 2 in both upper extremities and trunk, and Grade 0 in both lower extremities at the time of discharge. His Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) score decreased from 38 to 7, and his numerical rating scale (NRS) decreased from 8 to 1 for low back pain and from 9 to 2 for tremor. A follow-up visit to the hospital 2 months after the end of treatment confirmed continued symptom improvements and no significant side effects. Conclusions: This study suggests the possibility of treating psychogenic tremor using only Korean medicine treatments. Further studies with control groups and long-term follow-up are needed.

APPLICATION OF WIFI-BASED INDOOR LOCATION MONITORING SYSTEM FOR LABOR TRACKING IN CONSTRUCTION SITE - A CASE STUDY in Guangzhou MTR

  • Safety is a big issue in the construction sites. For safe and secure management, tracking locations of construction resources such as labors, materials, machineries, vehicles and so on is important. The materials, machineries and vehicles could be controlled by computer, whereas the movement of labors does not have fixed pattern. So, the location and movement of labors need to be monitored continuously for safety. In general, Global Positioning System(GPS) is an opt solution to obtain the location information in outside environments. But it cannot be used for indoor locations as it requires a clear Line-Of-Sight(LOS) to satellites Therefore, indoor location monitoring system could be a convenient alternative for environments such as tunnel and indoor building construction sites. This paper presents a case study to investigate feasibility of Wi-Fi based indoor location monitoring system in construction site. The system is developed by using fingerprint map of gathering Received Signal Strength Indication(RSSI) from each Access Point(AP). The signal information is gathered by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, which are attached on a helmet of labors to track their locations, and is sent to server computer. Experiments were conducted in a shield tunnel construction site at Guangzhou, China. This study consists of three phases as follows: First, we have a tracking test in entrance area of tunnel construction site. This experiment was performed to find the effective geometry of APs installation. The geometry of APs installation was changed for finding effective locations, and the experiment was performed using one and more tags. Second, APs were separated into two groups, and they were connected with LAN cable in tunnel construction site. The purpose of this experiment was to check the validity of group separating strategy. One group was installed around the entrance and the other one was installed inside the tunnel. Finally, we installed the system inner area of tunnel, boring machine area, and checked the performance with varying conditions (the presence of obstacles such as train, worker, and so on). Accuracy of this study was calculated from the data, which was collected at some known points. Experimental results showed that WiFi-based indoor location system has a level of accuracy of a few meters in tunnel construction site. From the results, it is inferred that the location tracking system can track the approximate location of labors in the construction site. It is able to alert the labors when they are closer to dangerous zones like poisonous region or cave-in..

CNN 기반 감성 변화 패턴을 이용한 가짜뉴스 탐지 (Fake News Detection Using CNN-based Sentiment Change Patterns)

  • 최근 가짜뉴스는 뉴스 콘텐츠 형식을 가장하고 중요한 사건이 발생할 때마다 등장하여 사회적 혼란을 초래한다. 이에 가짜뉴스를 탐지하기 위한 연구로 인공지능 기술이 사용된다. 자연어 처리를 통해 가짜뉴스를 자동으로 인지 및 차단하거나, 네트워크 인과 추론과 결합함으로써 허위 정보를 확산시키는 소셜미디어 인플루언스 계정을 감지하는 등의 가짜뉴스 탐지 접근법이 딥러닝을 통해 구현될 수 있었다. 그러나 가짜뉴스 탐지는 여러 자연어 처리 분야 중에서도 해결이 어려운 문제로 분류된다. 가짜뉴스가 가지는 형식 및 표현의 다양성으로 특성 추출의 난도가 높고, 뉴스가 속한 범주에 따라 하나의 특성이 서로 다른 의미를 가질 수도 있는 등 다양한 한계점이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 가짜뉴스를 탐지하기 위한 추가적인 식별 기준으로 감성 변화 패턴을 제시한다. 합성곱 신경망을 가짜뉴스 데이터 세트에 적용하여 콘텐츠 특성에 기반한 분석을 수행하고, 감성 변화 패턴을 추가로 분석함으로써 성능이 개선된 모델을 제안한다. 뉴스를 구성하는 문장에 대하여 감성 극성을 산출하고 장단기 메모리를 적용함으로써 문장 순서에 의존적인 결괏값을 얻을 수 있다. 이를 감성 변화의 패턴으로 정의하고 뉴스의 콘텐츠 특성과 결합하여 가짜뉴스 탐지를 위한 제안 모델의 독립변수로 활용한다. 제안 모델과 비교 모델을 딥러닝으로 학습시키고 가짜뉴스 데이터 세트를 이용한 실험을 진행하여 감성 변화 패턴이 가짜뉴스 탐지 성능을 개선할 수 있음을 확인한다.

여성 난임 한의표준임상진료지침 개작을 위한 한의사의 인식과 치료에 관한 실태조사 (A Survey on Korean Medicine Doctors' Recognition and Treatment for Developing Korean Medicine Clinical Practice Guideline of Female Infertility)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to develop a Korean Medicine(KM) Clinical Practice Guidelines(CPG) of female infertility. We conducted this questionnaire survey to reflect the experiences of Korean Medicine doctors(KMD) and clinical field in Korea. Method: We sent a questionnaire survey to KMD belonging to the Association of Korean Medicine by e-mail. We received 665 responds, and analyzed the answers. Results: 51.2% of respondents knew the previously developed CPG of female infertility, and 18.3% actually used. 83.3% agreed about the necessity of CPG of female infertility, and 80.3% had practical use plan. 90.2% of respondents treated less than 5 infertility woman for a month. 22.7% of respondents treated 50% of patients with collaborative treatment of KM and Western medical treatments. The main age group of patients was '35~40 years'(54.7%), and the most common cause was unexplained infertility(61.7%). The most common pattern identification of female infertility patients was Kidney deficiency(55.4%). KMD used 'a combination of decoction of herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion treatment' the most(43%), and 'a decoction of herbal medicine treatment alone' was next(35%). 84.2% conducted lifestyle modification education about diet, stress, exercise etc. Conclusion: We figured out Korean Medicine doctors' recognition about CPG of female infertility, preference of treatments, and also characteristics of patients visiting Korean Medical clinics to make a practical CPG reflecting clinical situation.
