  • The diagnosis of peripheral T cell lymphoma is difficult due to the varying size and shape of the neoplastic lymphoid cells and the frequent admixture of nonneoplastic mature lymphyocytes, histiocytes, eosinophils, and plasma cells. We report a case of peripheral T cell lymphoma, lymphoepithelioid ceil type, which was difficult to differentiate from tuberculous lymphadenitis due to the aggregates of epithelioid histlocytes mimicking granuloma and the past history of pulmonary tuberculosis. Fine needle aspiration cytology of the inguinal lymph node in a 63-year-old male was characterized by hypercellular aspirates composed of a mixture of small and intermediate-size lymphoid cells and large lymphoid cells with background of confluent epithelioid histiocytes. The neoplastic lymphocytes demonstrated significant nuclear irregularity with protrusion and indentations of the nuclear membrane, prominent nucleoli, and frequent mitotic figures. The diagnosis of peripheral T cell lymphoma was confirmed by histological and immunohistochemical studios.

  • Chordoma is relatively uncommon tumor comprising $1\sim4%$ of primary malignant bone tumors, and believed to arise from the remnants of notochordal tissue. Because of its rare occurrence in the thoracic spine, we report a case of chordoma involving the thoracic spine. A 45-year-old male was sufferred from chest pain radiating to the back. Chest CT showed a well marginated, round huge mass with multiseptated enhancement at the thoracic spine from T5 to T8 level. After percutaneous needle aspiration, piecemeal resection of the tumor was done. On cytologic smears, two types of neoplastic cells were arranged in sheets and cords in mucinous background. One type of cells consisted of medium sized cells with pink cytoplasm and round nuclei. The other type had voluminous bubbly or clear cytoplasm divided by intracytoplasmic septae imparting a feathery or basket-like appearance. Histologically, the tumor showed lobulated feature divided by fibrous septae and the tumor cells were pink eosinophilic or physaliphorous in morphology. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells revealed strong positivity for low(AE1) and high (AE3) molecular weight cytokeratins.

  • Leaf samples of Solanum lycopersicum, Capsicum annuum, Cucurbita moschata, Cucurbita pepo, Sechium edule and Erythrina spp. were collected. All samples were positive for begomoviruses using polymerase chain reaction and degenerate primers. A sequence of ~1,100 bp was obtained from the genomic component DNA-A of 14 samples. In addition, one sequence of ~580 bp corresponding to the coat protein (AV1) was obtained from a chayote (S. edule) leaf sample. The presence of Squash yellow mild mottle virus (SYMMoV) and Pepper golden mosaic virus (PepGMV) were confirmed. The host range reported for SYMMoV includes species of the Cucurbitaceae, Caricaceae and Fabaceae families. This report extends the host range of SYMMoV to include the Solanaceae family, and extends the host range of PepGMV to include C. moschata, C. pepo and the Fabaceae Erythrina spp. This is the first report of a begomovirus (PepGMV) infecting chayote in the Western Hemisphere.

  • So-called sclerosing hemangioma of the lung is a rare benign neoplasm which usually presents with a coin lesion detected through routine chest X-ray. We report two cases showing characteristic cytologic appearances which have been rarely reported. Both cases were young females with coin lesions in the lung. Fine needle aspiration of each case revealed unique but some different cytologic features. Case 1 showed bland-looking polygonal epithelial cells resembling bronchioloalveolar cells haying predominantly papillary configurations with loosely arranged solid sheets or isolated cells. Cytoplasms were plump, cyanophilic, and finely granular, with eccentric nuclei. The nuclei were usually monotonous, round-to-ovoid, and vesicular with a small but conspicuous nucleolus. In comparison to case 1, case 2 revealed largely loose pavement-like solid sheets or clusters rather than papillary patterns in the hemorrhagic background. The size of tumor cells were a little smaller than that of case 1. Bronchioloalveolar carcinoma and papillary adenocarcinoma of metastatic origin were considered to be one of the important differential diagnoses with these cytologic features. Histologically, both cases exhibited findings compatible with so-called sclerosing hemangioma of the lung.

  • Seborrheic dermatitis is acute or chronic inflammatory disease frequently caused by heredtary factor, endocrine abnormality, alcohol, etc. and characterized by red spots with clear boundary itching. It is similar to Myunyoupung in Oriental Medicine. I prescribed the Seungmahwangryun-tang(升麻黃連湯) and Zowiseunggi-tang(調胃承氣湯) to a patient with Seborrheic dermatitis. After taking above medicines. the patient was cured.

  • Myofibroma is a benign tumor composed of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts, occasionally occurring most commonly as a solitary lesion of soft tissue, skin, or bone in children younger than 3 years of age. Solitary lesion of myofibroma is exceedingly rare in adult jaws. This report describes a rare case of myofibroma in the mandible that occurred in a 41-year-old Korean woman.

  • A 20-year-old young man who had undergone treatment for a suprasellar/perichiasmal tumor 2 years before, was presented with a huge palpable splenic mass. A fine needle aspiration cytology from the splenic mass showed dissociated large pleomorphic tumor cells having irregular nuclear outline, coarse chromatin, and one or two macronucleoli, and scattered small lymphocytes in fine granular background. Above cytologic findings were regarded as the characteristics of germinoma. Differential diagnosis from the large cell lymphoma of spleen was emphasized.

  • Extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is a relatively rare tumor and its cytologic findings have rarely been reported. We experienced a case of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of soft tissue of the right lateral neck diagnosed by fine needle aspiration biopsy in a 59 year-old man. Cytologic findings showed two cell components. One was an undifferentiated, small cell component with moderate amount of cytoplasm and spindle nuclei. The second population was a chondroid component. These cytologic findings were diagnostic to mesenchymal chondrosarcoma.

  • Three dogs were referred for emergency care after fall accidents. All cases showed hyperglycemia at initial testing, with no history of diabetes mellitus. After varying periods of time, the blood glucose levels in all cases returned to within the reference range. The present report describes three cases of typical trauma-associated hyperglycemia in dogs.
