  • This paper presents a novel algorithm for searching evacuation paths in indoor disaster environments. The proposed method significantly improves the time complexity to find the paths to the evacuation exit by introducing a light-weight Disaster Evacuation Graph (DEG) for a building in terms of the size of the graph. With the DEG, the method also considers load balancing and bottleneck capacity of the paths to the evacuation exit simultaneously. The behavior of the algorithm consists of two phases: horizontal tiering (HT) and vertical tiering (VT). The HT phase finds a possible optimal path from anywhere of a specific floor to the evacuation stairs of the floor. Thus, after finishing the HT phases of all floors in parallel the VT phase begins to integrate all results from the previous HT phases to determine a evacuation path from anywhere of a floor to the safety zone of the building that could be the entrance or the roof of the building. It should be noted that the path produced by the algorithm. And, in order to define the range of graph to process, tiering scheme is used. In order to test the performance of the method, computing times and evacuation times are compared to the existing path searching algorithms. The result shows the proposed method is better than the existing algorithms in terms of the computing time and evacuation time. It is useful in a large-scale building to find the evacuation routes for evacuees quickly.

  • Navigation accuracy, integrity, and safety of commercial Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is becoming crucial as utilization of UAV in commercial applications is expected to increase. Recently, the concept of Local-Area Differential GNSS (LADGNSS) which can provide navigation accuracy and integrity of UAV was proposed. LADGNSS can provide differential corrections and separation distances for precise and safe operation of the UAV. In order to derive separation distances between UAVs, modeling of Flight Technical Error (FTE) is required. In most cases, FTE for civil aircraft has been assumed to be zero-mean normal distribution. However, this assumption can cause overconservatism especially for UAV, because UAV may use control and navigation equipments in wider performance range and follow more diverse path than standard airway for civil aircraft. In this research, flight experiments were carried out to understand the characteristics of FTE distribution. Also, this paper proposes to use Johnson distribution which can better describe heavy-tailed and skewed FTE data. Futhermore, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Anderson-Darling tests were conducted to evaluate the goodness of fit of Johnson model.

  • This paper introduces a MATLAB graphical user interface (GUI) based software for analysis of korea augmentation satellite system (KASS) availability performance. This software uses minimum variance (MV) estimator and Kriging algorithm to generate integrity information such as user differential range error (UDRE) and grid ionospheric vertical error (GIVE). The information is offered to ground and aviation users in Korean region. The software also gives accuracy data, protection level data and availability map about each user position by using the integrity information. In particular the software calculates the protection level along a path of aircraft. We verified the result of protection level of aviation user by comparing them with the results of SBASimulator#2, which is a simulation tool of european geostationary navigation overlay service (EGNOS). As a result, the protection level error between the result of our software and the SBASimulator#2 was about 2% which means that the result of our software is accurate.

  • This paper describes the performance evaluation and analysis of an Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system having the least Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) in a multi-path fading channel environment. Wireless Local Area Network (W-LAN) in accordance with IEEE 802.11a and IEEE 802.11b provides high-speed transmission to universities, businesses and other various places. In addition, service providers can offer a public W-LAN service on restricted areas such as a subway. The proliferation of W-LAN has led to greater W-LAN service demands, but problems are also on the rise in offering a good W-LAN service. In particular, urban areas with high radio wave interference and many buildings are vulnerable to deteriorated QoS including disconnected data and errors. For example, when high-speed data is transmitted in such areas, the relatively high frequency generates ISI between Access Points (AP) and Mobile Terminals (such as a notebook computer), leading to a frequency selective fading channel environment. Consequently, it is difficult to expect a goodW-LAN service. The simulation proves that the OFDM system enables W-LAN to implement QoS in high-speed data transmission in a multi-path fading channel environment. The enhanced OFDM performance with 52 sub-carriers is verified via data modulation methods such as BPSK, QPSK and 16QAM based on IEEE 802.11a and punched convolutional codes with code rate of 1/2 and 3/4 and constraint length of 7. Especially, the simulation finds that the OFDM system has better performance and there is no data disconnection even in a mobile environment by applying a single tap equalizer and a decision feedback equalizer to a mobile channel environment with heavy fading influence. Given the above result, the OFDM system is an ideal solution to guarantee QoS of the W-LAN service in a high-speed mobile environment.

  • This paper presents a micro fluxgate magnetic sensor in printed circuit board (PCB). In order to observe the effect of the closed magnetic path, the magnetic cores of rectangular-ring and two bars were each fabricated. Each fluxgate sensor consists of five PCB stack layers including one layer magnetic core and four layers of excitation and pick-up coils. The center layer as a magnetic core is made of a Co-based amorphous magnetic ribbon with extremely high DC permeability of ~100,000. Four outer layers as an excitation and pick-up coils have a planar solenoid and are made of copper foil. In case of the fluxgate sensor having the rectangular-ring shaped core, excellent linear response over the range of -100 $\mu$T to + 100 $\mu$T is obtained with 540 V/Tsensitivity at excitation square wave of 3 $V_{p-p}$ and 360 KHz. The chip size of the fabricated sensing element is $7.3 \times 5.7\textrm{mm}^2$. The very low power consumption of ~8 mW was measured. This magnetic sensor is very useful for various applications such as: portable navigation systems, telematics, VR game and so on.n.

  • The MX-S2X, utilizing high-frequency broadband communication technology, provides a reliable connection between land, ship, and facilities. This technology is expected to be effectively utilized as a future maritime communication infrastructure in the upcoming mixed navigational situation among autonomous and manned and/or unmanned ships. Following the physical layer design and M&S-based performance analysis of the MX-S2X system to overcome maritime multipath fading, this paper confirms the optimized and detailed design of physical layer hardware and implemented it to verify the performance. The PER(Packet Error Rate) performance was then measured by configuring a test environment to verify the implemented hardware. The results showed that the performance degradation was 0.2 dB in the AWGN environment and 1.2 dB in the Multi-path Fading on Sea Environment, thus confirming the successful implementation of the physical layer.

  • This paper deals with the method of using the three dimensional characteristic information to classify the front environment in travelling by using the images captured by a CCD camera equipped on a mobile robot. The images detected by the three dimensional characteristic information is divided into the part of obstacles, the part of corners, and th part of doorways in a corridor. In designing the travelling path of a mobile robot, these three situations are used as an important information in the obstacle avoidance and optimal path computing. So, this paper proposes the method of deciding the travelling direction of a mobile robot with using input images based upon the suggested algorithm by preprocessing, and verified the validity of the image information which are detected as obstacles by the analysis through neural network.

  • This article proposes a new pedestrian avoidance algorithm for social robots that coexist and communicate with humans and do not induce stress caused by invasion of psychological safety distance(Social Distance). To redefine the pedestrian model, pedestrians are clustered according to the pedestrian's gait characteristics(straightness, speed) and a social distance is defined for each pedestrian cluster. After modeling pedestrians(obstacles) with the social distances, integrated navigation algorithm is completed by applying the newly defined pedestrian model to commercial obstacle avoidance and path planning algorithms. To show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, two commercial obstacle avoidance & path planning algorithms(the Dynamic Window Approach (DWA) algorithm and the Timed Elastic Bands (TEB) algorithm) are used. Four cases were experimented in applying and non-applying the new pedestrian model, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the stress index of pedestrians without loss of traveling time.
