  • Surveillance cameras have been installed in many places because security and safety has become an important issue in modern society. However, watching surveillance videos and judging accidental situations is very labor-intensive and time-consuming. So now, requests for research to automatically analyze the surveillance videos is growing. In this paper, we propose a surveillance system to track multiple persons in videos and to summarize the videos based on tracking information. The proposed surveillance summarization system applies an adaptive illumination correction, subtracts the background, detects multiple persons, tracks the persons, and saves their tracking information in a database. The tracking information includes tracking one's path, their movement status, length of staying time at the location, enterance/exit times, and so on. The movement status is classified into six statuses(Enter, Stay, Slow, Normal, Fast, and Exit). This proposed summarization system provides a person's status as a graph in time and space and helps to quickly determine the status of the tracked person.

  • Purpose: This study examines the effects of elastic band of resistance exercise for balance control of the elderly. Methods: Thirty of eighty participants in experiment subjects who demonstrated balance-impairment through the use of primary screening tests including the one leg standing test (OLST), functional reach test (FRT) and timed up and go (TUG) were selected as subjects. Fifteen subjects that underwent muscle-strengthening exercise using an elastic band were selected as the exercise group and fifteen subjects were selected as a control group. Subjects undertook a home-based exercise program three times per week for 9 weeks. Muscle strength, functional assessment and a balance test were quantitatively measured before and after the exercise regimen. Results: After muscle strengthening exercises, changes in maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) showed a significant increase in all of the lower extremity muscles of the exercise group subjects. There were statistically significant differences between the exercise and control groups for changes in the OLST, FRT and TUG, which are functional assessments of balance ability, and changes of the unit path length and circumference area, measurement items of quantitative analysis. In addition, from examining correlations between MVIC, balance ability, it was found that an increase of muscle strength in the hip joint group of muscles among the lower extremity muscles had greater improvement in correlation with balance ability in this elderly population. Conclusion: Resistance exercise using elastic bands had significant effects on muscle strengthening in elderly subjects, with a resultant increase of lower extremity muscle strength with significant improvement of balance ability.

  • Most of the statistical models that real data can be applicable are static in nature, and thus it is not possible to analyze the effect of variations in the real world over time. Usual specification of the models does not produce the length and the time path of the effect even if the effect of an exogenous variation continues for periods of time. In this study, deriving the dynamic inherence from the static structure of the linear model for better utilization, we attempt to apply actual data to compare and analyze the long-run effect of variations in the market variables between the related markets by formulating a simultaneous equation system. Accordingly, it is proved to be possible to obtain efficient analytical results and to derive various useful implications.

  • For the development of superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs), fault current limiting elements were fabricated out of Bi-2212 bulk tubes and tested. The SFCL elements consisted of tube shaped Bi-2212 bulks and metal shunts for the stabilizers. Firstly, the Bi-2212 bulk tubes were processed based on a design of monofilar coils in order to acquire large resistance and high voltage rating. 300 mm-long Bi-2212 tubes were designed to have the current path of 410 cm in length with 24 turns and 41 mm in diameter. The processed monofilar coil, as designed, had 300 A $I_c$ at 77 K. The fabricated superconducting monofilar coils were affixed to Cu-Ni alloy as that of stabilizers. The Cu-Ni alloys were processed to have the same shape of the superconducting monofilar coils. The Cu-Ni coil had resistivity of 32 ${\mu}{\Omega}$-cm at 77 K and 37 ${\mu}{\Omega}$-cm at 300 K. The metal shunts were attached to the outside of the Bi-2212 monofilar coil by a soldering technique. After the terminals made of copper were attached to both ends of the superconductor-metal shunt composite, the gap between the turns and the surface of the elements was filled with an epoxy and a dense mesh made of FRP in order to enhance the mechanical strength. The completed SFCL elements went through fault tests, and we confirmed that the voltage rating of 143 $V_{rms}$ (E =0.35 $V_{rms}$/cm) could be accomplished.

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of Robot Tilt-table Training (RTT) on the lower extremity strength, balance, gait, and satisfaction with rehabilitation, in patients with subacute stroke (less than six months after stroke onset), and requiring intensive rehabilitation. METHODS: A total of 29 subacute stroke patients were divided into an RTT group (n = 14) and a Body Weight Support Treadmill Training (BWSTT) group (n = 15). The mean age of patients was 62 years. RTT and BWSTT were performed for four weeks, three times a week, for 30 minutes. Isometric strength of the lower extremities before and after intervention was compared by measuring the maximal voluntary isometric contraction of the lower extremity muscles. To compare the balance function, the center of pressure (COP) path-length and COP velocity were measured. Timed Up & Go test (TUG) and 10 Meter Walking Test (10 MWT) were evaluated to compare the gait function. A satisfaction with rehabilitation survey was conducted for subjective evaluation of the subject's satisfaction with the rehabilitation training imparted. RESULTS: In the intra-group comparison, both groups showed significant improvement in lower extremity strength, balance, gait, and satisfaction with rehabilitation, by comparing the parameters before and after the intervention (p < .05). Comparison of the amount of change between groups revealed significant improvement for all parameters in the RTT group, except for the 10 MWT (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Both groups are effective for all variables, but the RTT group showed enhanced efficacy for variables such as lower extremity strength, balance, gait, and satisfaction with rehabilitation, as compared to the BWSTT group.

  • The NOx emission characteristics of DME in laminar coaxial jet and counterflow nonpremixed flames were investigated using experimental and numerical approaches, respectively. The flame structure and NOx emission of DME were compared with those of $C_2H_6$ and $C_3H_8$. The DME flame was calculated using the Kaiser's mechanism, while the $C_2H_6$ and $C_3H_8$ flames were calculated using the $C_3$ mechanism. These mechanisms were combined with the modified Miller-Bowman mechanism for the analysis of NOx. Experimental results show in coaxial jet flame that DME flame has the characteristics of partial premixed flame and the flame length decreases up to 1/3 than that of $C_3H_8$ in the same condition of fuel mass flowrate. Then, the NOx emission of DME decreases to 40% approximately, comparing with that of $C_3H_8$. In the calculated results of counterflow nonpremixed flame, DME flame shows the $EI_{NO}$ decreases up to 50% approximately than those of$ C_2H_6$ and $C_3H_8$ flames when the equivalent fuels are consumed per unit mass and time. Although the overall NOx reaction path of DME is similar with other hydrocarbon fuels, it can be identified that DME flame has a distinct NO reduction mechanism due to the reburning NO chemistry in fuel rich region. From these results, we can conclude that the different NOx emission characteristics of DME flame with other hydrocarbon fuels are attributed to not the temperature increase and the activation of NO reactions due to O atom in DME fuel but the rapid processes of pyrolysis/oxidation.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of HPAFO(Hinged Plastic Ankle Foot orthosis) and SPAFO(Solid Plastic Ankle Foot Orthosis) on standing balance and step moving in hemiplegia patients. Twenty hemiplegic patients were either inpatient or outpatient at the Rehabilitation medicine, MokPo J General Hospital and JeonJu J Medical Center from July 15, 2002 to September 15, 2002. Patients were able to ambulate independently for at least 10 meters and to stand independently for at least 10 minutes with balance measurement tool. The static balance and dynamic activity measurement was determined by SAKAI active balancer(Japan) with wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO. The static balance and dynamic activity analysis was analyzed by independent t-test. The results were as follows: 1. There were no significant difference in body weight bearing percent between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p>0.05). 2. There were significant difference in whole path length between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p<0.05). 3. There were significant difference in Effective Value Area between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p>0.001). 4. There were significant difference in repeated functional time between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p>0.001). 5. There were significant difference in cadence between wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO(p>0.001). The result of this study showed that wearing HPAFO and wearing SPAFO gave fair amount of improvement to static standing balance and dynamic movement ability of hemiplegic patients. The comparison result showed significant differences in between HPAFO and SPAHFO. The result of this study had a general limitation due to the restricted number of cases. The future study needs more detailed research and comparison with various variance between these two orthoses.

  • Polymer-fullerene based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells can be fabricated in large area using low-cost roll-to-roll manufacturing methods. However, because of the low mobility of the BHJ materials, there is competition between the sweep-out of the photogenerated carriers by the built-in potential and recombination within the thin BHJ film [12-15]. Useful film thicknesses are limited by recombination. Thus, there is a need to increase the absorption by the BHJ film without increasing film thickness. Metal nanoparticles exhibit localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR) which couple strongly to the incident light. In addition, relatively large metallic nanoparticles can reflect and scatter the light and thereby increase the optical path length within the BHJ film. Thus, the addition of metal nanoparticles into BHJ films offers the possibility of enhanced absorption and correspondingly enhanced photo-generation of mobile carriers. In this work, we have demonstrated several positive effects of shape controlled Au and Ag nanoparticles in organic P3HT/PC70BM, PCDTBT/PC70BM, Si-PCPDTBT/PC70BM BHJ-based PV devices. The use of an optimized concentration of Au and Ag nanomaterials in the BHJ film increases Jsc, FF, and the IPCE. These improvements result from a combination of enhanced light absorption caused by the light scattering of the nanomaterials in an active layer. Some of the metals induce the plasmon light concentration at specific wavelength. Moreover, improved charge transport results in low series resistance.

  • This study examined the growth characteristics and carbonization pattern when a fire occurs due to a flammable liquid sprinkled on a vinyl floor. When acetone was sprinkled on a floor, the flame reached its peak in approximately 0.2 s after it was ignited. The lower part of the flame showed a laminar pattern while the upper part showed a turbulent pattern. The pattern showed a turbulent pattern and generated white smoke. The combustion completed floor surface showed carbonization of a dim pore pattern. In the case of benzene, an intense flame was formed in approximately 0.6 s after ignition. The flame length was measured to be approximately 50 mm. When the flame became weak, a significant amount of black smoke was generated due to incomplete combustion. The combustion completed floor surface showed carbonization of a pour pattern and splash pattern. In the case of alcohol, an intense flame was formed in approximately 1.1 s after ignition. In addition, the depth of carbonization was significant where the flammable liquid was collected and a trace of carbonization was observed at the boundary of the flow path of the flammable liquid.

  • In this paper, a microstrip-fed triple-band monopole antenna for WLAN/WiMAX applications was proposed. The proposed antenna is consist of two arc-shaped and one strip line structure, then get the three current path and then designed in order to get triple resonant characteristics. We carried out simulation about parameters. Taking account of coupling effect, Adjusted the length of the two arc-shaped and one strip line, we get the optimized parameters. The proposed antenna is fabricated on an FR-4 substrate, the dielectric constant is 4.4, and total size is $23.5mm(W1){\times}32.0mm(L1){\times}1.0mm(t)$, and its proposed antenna size is $21.0mm(W6){\times}31.0mm(L7)$. From the measured results, return loss of the proposed antenna satisfied return loss 927 MHz (1.844~2.771 GHz), 926 MHz (3.33~4.256 GHz), and 1,415 MHz (5.13~6.545 GHz). And measured results of gain and radiation patterns displayed for operating bands.
