  • Despite its matchless position in the global semiconductor industry, Korea has not distinguished itself in the semiconductor equipment sector. Semiconductor cleaning equipment is one of the semiconductor fabrication equipment, and it is expected to be more important along with the advancement of semiconductor fabrication processes. This study attempts to analyze technology competitiveness of major countries in the sector including Korea, and explore specialty sub-areas of the countries. For this purpose, we collected patents of semiconductor cleaning equipment during the last 10 years from the US patent database, and implemented quantitative patent analysis and co-classification network analysis. The result shows that, the US and Japan have been leading the technological progress in this sector, and Korea's competitiveness has lagged behind not only the leading countries but also its competitors and even latecomers. Therefore, intensive R&D and developing technological capabilities are needed for advancing the country's competitiveness in the sector.

Methods: Using the WIPSON database, we collected information regarding the patents related to insect-derived materials for treating various skin diseases. Results: The patents registered prior to October 4, 2019, from Korea, Japan, the USA, China, and the EU, along with those registered under PCT were selected. There were 195 patents related to the use of insect-derived medicinal materials in treating various skin diseases such as psoriasis, inflammatory skin diseases, eczema, pruritus, and atopic dermatitis. China is mostly superior in total number of registered patents compared with the other countries. Korea was the major patent technology-holder for atopic dermatitis, but China dominated in the remaining categories of skin diseases. Upon first patent registration in 1992, there had been a continual increase in the number of patents. Especially, patents related to eczema, psoriasis, inflammatory skin disease were markedly increased. Most frequently used insect-derived medicinal materials was Scolopendra, Cicadidae Periostracum, Scorpions, Cantharides, and Batryticatus Bombyx. The insect-derived medicinal materials were generally used as a combined preparation with other medicinal materials in patents. Conclusion: This study could help to establish the basis for future research and development related treating skin diseases using insect-derived medicinal materials. In order to provide sufficient data, further study including analysis of rejected patents is needed.

  • The impact of technological advancements on employment is a matter of ongoing debate, with discussions on the effects of AI technology development on employment being particularly scarce. This study employs the natural language processing technique (SBERT) and patents to calculate an occupation-based AI exposure score and to analyze employment trends by group. It proposes a method for calculating the AI exposure score based on the similarity between Korean patent information and US job descriptions and linking SOC(U.S.) and KSCO(Korea). The analysis of domestic AI patent applications and regional employment data in the KOSIS Database since 2013 reveals a K-shaped polarization pattern in Korean employment trends among groups with above and below average levels of AI exposure.

  • The patent information retrieval system can serve a variety of purposes. In general, the patent information is retrieved using limited key words. To identify earlier technology and priority rights repeated effort is needed. This study proposes a method of content-based retrieval using text mining. Using the proposed algorithm, each of the documents is invested with characteristic value. The characteristic values are used to compare similarities between query documents and database documents. Text analysis is composed of 3 steps: stop-word, keyword analysis and weighted value calculation. In the test results, the general retrieval and the proposed algorithm were compared by using accuracy measurements. As the study arranges the result documents as similarities of the query documents, the surfer can improve the efficiency by reviewing the similar documents first. Also because of being able to input the full-text of patent documents, the users unacquainted with surfing can use it easily and quickly. It can reduce the amount of displayed missing data through the use of content based retrieval instead of keyword based retrieval for extending the scope of the search.

  • Recently, along with the innovative development of wireless communication techniques and mobile devices, mobile P2P services in mobile wireless networks have gained a lot of attention. In this paper, we propose a resource discovery scheme with data dissemination over mobile P2P networks. In the proposed scheme, each peer manages a local information table, a resource index table, and a routing table in a local database to enhance the accuracy and cost of resource discovery. The local information table stores the status of a mobile peer, and the resource index table stores the resource information of the neighbor peers via the ranking function. The routing table is used to communicate with the neighbor peers. We use a timestamp message to determine whether or not the resource index table will be changed before the resource information is exchanged. Our ranking function considers the interest and mobility of the mobile peer and prioritizes the resource information transmitted from the neighbor peers. It is shown via various experiments that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing scheme.

  • While science and technology information service portals and heterogeneous databases produced in Korea and other countries are integrated, methods of connecting the unique classification systems applied to each database have been studied. Results of technologists' research, such as, journal articles, patent specifications, and research reports, are organically related to each other. In this case, if the most basic and meaningful classification systems are not connected, it is difficult to achieve interoperability of the information and thus not easy to implement meaningful science technology information services through information convergence. This study aims to address the aforementioned issue by analyzing mapping systems between classification systems in order to design a structure to connect a variety of classification systems used in the academic information database of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, which provides science and technology information portal service. This study also aims to design a mapping system for the classification systems to be applied to actual science and technology information services and information management systems.
