Interstory-interbuilding actuation schemes for seismic protection of adjacent identical buildings

  • Rows of closely adjacent buildings with similar dynamic characteristics are common building arrangements in residential areas. In this paper, we present a vibration control strategy for the seismic protection of this kind of multibuilding systems. The proposed approach uses an advanced Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) computational procedure to carry out the integrated design of distributed multiactuation schemes that combine interbuilding linking devices with interstory actuators implemented at different levels of the buildings. The controller designs are formulated as static output-feedback H-infinity control problems that include the interstory drifts, interbuilding approachings and control efforts as controlled-output variables. The advantages of the LMI computational procedure are also exploited to design a fully-decentralized velocity-feedback controller, which can define a passive control system with high-performance characteristics. The main ideas are presented by means of a system of three adjacent five-story identical buildings, and a proper set of numerical simulations are conducted to demonstrate the behavior of the different control configurations. The obtained results indicate that interstory-interbuilding multiactuation schemes can be used to design effective vibration control systems for adjacent buildings with similar dynamic characteristics. Specifically, this kind of control systems is able to mitigate the vibrational response of the individual buildings while maintaining reduced levels of pounding risk.

생체모방의 건축적 적용을 위한 프로세스 (Process for the Architectural Application of Biomimicry)

  • Biomimicry architecture has been highlighted in recent years for the innovative ideas from the nature have provided main developments in many areas. The related studies in Korean architecture is entering the first step and are needed close attentions for its vitalizations. This study starts with the acknowledgement of necessity to establish the architectural application process. First of all, it is named as a 'Passive Cycle' if a problem-solving or a project has been through the analysis of process complexity and biomimicry application process in other areas. Then, the basic frame is structured as a 'Process-Cooperation,' which integrates process complexation with process circulation. The cooperative relationship starts from the beginning of the design with not only professionalists related with architecture but also ones in various areas when it is issued a difficult problem or high environmental performance not found in common architectural design processes. To make the architectural application good progress, the characteristics of bio-mimetic architectural applications are categorized as three areas; the expected effect, the application level, and application method. As a result, the organic complexity should be prioritized to have bio-mimetic application effectively while accessing the principles. Therefore, the process for the architectural application of biomimicry is suggested as 'Organic Cycle-Cooperation.'

패션디자인에서'재미'의 개념과 표현방식 (Concept and Expression Method of 'Fun' Presented in Fashion Design)

  • 경기침체 및 정치 사회적인 불안심리를 익살맞은 아이템을 통해서 해소시켜보려는 신선한 시도로 재미(fun)가 디자인 분야에서 키워드로 떠오르고 있다. 본 연구는 현대 패션디자인에 반영되어 나타나는 재미의 다양한 활용을 주제별로 유형화하고 그 표현방법을 조형적으로 분석하여 패션디자인에 있어서 재미의 개념구조에 대한 본질을 규명하고자 하였다. 2001년 S/S부터 2005년 F/W컬렉션에서 발표된 디자인 중 유머를 표현하고 있다고 판단되는 디자인 412점을 연구자료로 산정한 후, 범주화하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과 패션디자인에서의 재미의 주제에 따른 유형은 해학, 키덜트, 아이러니, 풍자와 패러디, 스토리텔링, 놀이로 분류될 수 있었으며, 디자인의 조형적 특성은 화려한 색채, 실루엣, 문자, 오브제, 드로잉의 요소와 변형/과장, 부조화, 반복의 원리를 활용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다 또한 이러한 표현들은 전통적인 유머 이론인 부조화이론, 우월성 이론, 각성 이론과 상통하며, 긍정, 따스함, 엔터테인먼트, 젊음, 모순, 의외, 일탈, 암시, 공격, 설명, 그리고 주체에 있어서는 수동적 수용뿐만 아니라 놀이와 같이 능동적 체험을 제공하는 가치를 갖는다.

영상처리를 이용한 머리의 움직임 추적 시스템 (Head tracking system using image processing)

  • This paper is concerned with the development and evaluation of the camera calibration method for a real-time head tracking system. Tracking of head movements is important in the design of an eye-controlled human/computer interface and the area of virtual environment. We proposed a video-based head tracking system. A camera was mounted on the subject's head and it took the front view containing eight 3-dimensional reference points(passive retr0-reflecting markers) fixed at the known position(computer monitor). The reference points were captured by image processing board. These points were used to calculate the position (3-dimensional) and orientation of the camera. A suitable camera calibration method for providing accurate extrinsic camera parameters was proposed. The method has three steps. In the first step, the image center was calibrated using the method of varying focal length. In the second step, the focal length and the scale factor were calibrated from the Direct Linear Transformation (DLT) matrix obtained from the known position and orientation of the camera. In the third step, the position and orientation of the camera was calculated from the DLT matrix, using the calibrated intrinsic camera parameters. Experimental results showed that the average error of camera positions (3- dimensional) is about $0.53^{\circ}C$, the angular errors of camera orientations are less than $0.55^{\circ}C$and the data aquisition rate is about 10Hz. The results of this study can be applied to the tracking of head movements related to the eye-controlled human/computer interface and the virtual environment.

조형변수 성향 분석에 의한 정합적 제품 형태 전개 방법 (Product Form Alignment Method Based on the Analysis of Formative Parameter Disposition)

  • 기업 내 디자인 작업은 과거의 전문직으로서의 폐쇄된 직능과 소극적 역할에서 현재의 성공적 제품 생산을 위한 기획, 마케팅, 기술은 물론 기업 브랜드 이미지 차별화를 위한 전략 구축 등의 적극적인 역할로 확대되었다. 그래서 디자이너가 타부서와의 의사교통은 물론 중요한 결정이나 정보 공유, 객관적 판단 등에 참여하거나 주도해야 하는 경우가 점차 늘어나고 있다. 이와 같이 디자인 작업은 협동 업무를 전제조건으로 하지만 디자인 프로세스의 조형작업(styling)은 디자이너의 직관이나 경험 등 주관성을 기초로 전개되는 특성을 가져 제품개발에 관계되는 구성원 사이에서 심지어는 한 디자인팀 안에서도 여러 형태의 장애로 표출된다. 이러한 점을 극복하고 보다 더 효율적인 디자인 결정 과정을 유도하고 제품의 형태를 개발, 평가 및 관리를 체계화할 수 있는 수단이 필요하게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 이의 기초가 될 수 있는 제품 형태가 표현하는 형상(image) 뒤에 숨은 조형적 원인이나 질서(객관적 체계 또는 공유할 수 있는 논리)를 실험을 통해 발견할 수 있다는 가설을 세우고 증명하였다. 이 실험의 결과로서, 시각적 개성의 표현인 조형에 관계하는 요인과 이들의 성향이나 상호역할의 체계를 규명하였다. 이 요인을 조형변수로, 또 이 체계를 정합적 제품 형태 전개 방법이라 명명하고, 이 과정에서 도출된 논리를 기초로 개발과정에서 목표한 형상에 정합적으로 접근하는 과정을 설명하였다. 이는 디자이너의 직관적 창의성과 추론적 논리성의 균형을 설정하는 방법으로서, 이 논리와 체계가 디자이너간에 공유할 수 있는 조형언어의 틀이 되고 타부서와의 의사교통에도 도움이 되는 하나의 지원 수단으로 제안된다. 이를 통해 디자이너는 목표한 이미지에 정합적으로 접근하여, 형태 전개 범위를 집중시키고 개발기간을 단축하기 위한 방법으로 사용하여 조형작업에 수반되는 불필요한 장애나 오류를 최소화할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • Organic light emitting diode is developed fast from 1963 after discovering electric light emitting phenomenon. First PMOLED(passive matrix OLED) product is manufactured and AMOLED(active matrix OLED) using TFT(thin film ransistor) is now in the center. PMOLED is mainly mounted at sub display. but AMOLED is mounted at main display. Also AMOLED expand the market to PMP(portable multimedia players), navigation and TV. Even thought OLED's market is opening to many applications, OLED is worried about lifetime until now. That's appeared in market in a very short time and is not known well about result of OLED's lifetime and reliability test. And there is no standard ssessment method and not enough study to standardization the method. A study's purpose is reduce the time for life test by accelerated current and it can do production possible design by accelerated life model in design phase. It's must be add to process variables and design variables(like ratio of light emitting, organic material structure, condition of aging, etc) to make the best use of supplied accelerated lifetime model in this paper. In terms of lifetime it needs each criterion of applications because of image sticking. In conclusion, it's possible to discover new defect because there is not much time to be opened in market and develop a method of manufacturing process & materials, so we need to study on the subject of this paper continuously.

  • CPS는 네트워크로 연결된 다수의 임베디드 시스템들이 물리 시스템과 연동하는 새로운 개념의 시스템 이다. 기존의 시스템은 일반적으로 물리 시스템 부분을 고려하지 않았다. 그러나 CPS에서 우리는 물리 시스템에서의 변화와 움직임을 고려해야 한다. 따라서 CPS의 복잡도가 증가로 시스템에서 잠재적인 문제 발생 역시 증가 한다. 본 논문에서 우리는 CPS의 신뢰성을 위하여 실행 가능한 모델 기반 설계 방법론을 적용하고 이를 검증하기 위한 분산 실시간 시뮬레이션 기법을 사용한다. 이산과 연속 요소를 갖는 하이브리드 시스템의 설계를 위하여 우리는 DEV&DESS 형식론을 적용하고 DDS 미들웨어 기반 분산 시뮬레이션 환경에서 시뮬레이션을 수행한다. 또한 우리는 개발한 모델링 도구를 이용한 CPS 응용분야의 모델링 및 시뮬레이션 수행 결과를 보여준다.

브레인스토밍 기법에 의한 한국적 의복이미지 유형 -"고요한 아침의 나라"이미지를 중심으로- (The Classified Korean Clothing Image by Brainstorming Method -focus on the image "The Land of Morning Calm"-)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify korean clothing image using brainstorming method. Brainstorming theme is selected 'The Land of Morning Calm 'which famed to foreigner about Korea. Brainstorming members were 10 persons for 1st. 9 persons for End. The 119 words of association from 'morning calm'were to extracted at 1st brainstorming. The group of senses image were to classified at End brainstorming. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The clothing image type of tactual sense implied feeling of that downy bedding in a soft spring and grandmother's hands as warm. rough. 2. The clothing image type of smelling sense associated smells of pleasant. mild. and fresh. 3. The clothing image type of auditive sense consisted mainly sense of indirect. resonance. small, and clear sounds. 4. The clothing image type of visual sense associated pure, passive, gentle, and lasting life-force as weeds and wild flowers. Korean line is pointless and rounded curve. Korean form is soft silhouette as streamy, not exaggerate and wavy detail of slim and short. Korean color is not dyed, just natural color and pastel tone. Korean textile is a natural material as linen, ramie. and coarse silk.

  • The aim of this study is to show that using a Web-Based Instruction system is a better method to help counteract deficient teaching, learning conditions and facilities thus improving the students' interest, understanding, participation and skill development in Physical Education. The key findings of this study are as follows; The first advantage of using this system is that the theory of Softball is explained with the use of pictures rather than text, thus improving the students' understanding. The second is the method in which practical skills are explained and demonstrated. Action image sequences are used as opposed to the old method of using stationary pictures. This means that the learners can clearly see and understand why and, more importantly, how to use these skills. The third advantage is the technique used to teach the application of these skills. Using active rather than passive learning and thus engaging the student encourages improved participation and learning. The fourth advantage comes in evaluation: both subjective and objective questions are asked in theoretical evaluation, and the teachers can evaluate the students' understanding and skill development by filming their actual Softball games. The final advantage is the use of Self-Directed Learning to aid learners' development of understanding of the lesson content as interactions between teachers and learners are constructe

Practical Silicon-Surface-Protection Method using Metal Layer

  • The reversal of a silicon chip to find out its security structure is common and possible at the present time. Thanks to reversing, it is possible to use a probing attack to obtain useful information such as personal information or a cryptographic key. For this reason, security-related blocks such as DES (Data Encryption Standard), AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), and RSA (Rivest Shamir Adleman) engines should be located in the lower layer of the chip to guard against a probing attack; in this regard, the addition of a silicon-surface-protection layer onto the chip surface is a crucial protective measure. But, for manufacturers, the implementation of an additional silicon layer is burdensome, because the addition of just one layer to a chip significantly increases the overall production cost; furthermore, the chip size is increased due to the bulk of the secure logic part and routing area of the silicon protection layer. To resolve this issue, this paper proposes a practical silicon-surface-protection method using a metal layer that increases the security level of the chip while minimizing its size and cost. The proposed method uses a shift register for the alternation and variation of the metal-layer data, and the inter-connection area is removed to minimize the size and cost of the chip in a more extensive manner than related methods.
