현재 공단지역에서 발생하는 오염물질을 파악하기 위해서는 오염물질이 배출되는 곳에 TMS를 설치하거나 측정하고자 하는 지점에 습식법을 이용하여 오염물질을 측정하는 방법이 사용되고 있다. 하지만 이러한 TMS나 습식법을 이용하여 오염물질을 측정하기 위해서는 고가의 설치비나 인력 장비 문제로 인하여 동시에 여러 지역을 측정하기 어렵다는 단점을 가지고 있으며, 특히 공단 지역과 같은 특수한 지역의 오염물질의 경향을 파악하기 위해서는 더욱 그러하다. (중략)

서울의 시정장애 현상은 80년 이후부터 계속 심화되고 있어 ‘서울 스모그’라는 새로운 용어를 탄생시키기에 이르렀다. 서울 스모그 발생은 가정용 연료의 연소와 노천소각에 의한 일부 원인과 함께, 대부분은 자동차 배출물질에 의해 유발되는 광화학 스모그는 미세한 입자상 물질에 의해 복합적으로 나타나는 것으로 알려져 있다. 서울지역의 자동차로부터 배출되는 오염비중은 1991년 54.4％에서 매년 증가하며 1997년부터 85％를 넘어섰다. (중략)

오존(O$_3$)은 성층권에서 태양광의 직접 지구 입사를 감소시키는 반면, 일반 대기 환경에서는 강력한 산화성과 더불어 최근 NOx, VOCs와의 연계성이 점차 밝혀지면서 최근 대기질 환경에 주요관심사가 되고 있다. 또한 지난 2000년 12개 도시에 52회의 0.3ppm이상의 고농도 오존 경보 발령으로 관리에 초점이 맞춰지고 있으나, 대기환경 중에서 자외선 등에 의한 2차 생성물질인 오존은 강력한 산화성으로 인해 표준물질이 없어 정확한 측정 및 관리에 어려움을 겪고 있다. (중략)

차량의 증가와 각종 산업분야에서의 유기용제 사용에 따른 VOC 물질의 증가는 발암성과 관련된 환경보건 및 오존의 전구물질 등 기타 복잡한 대기화학과도 긴밀하게 연루되어 있다. 또한, VOC는 공단지역에서 지역주민에게 악취를 유발시키는 있어 악취와 건강보건에 있어서 집중적인 관리가 요구된다고 하겠다.(중략)

현재까지 국내에서 주로 사용되고 있는 이산화질소 측정법은 Saltzman법, Jacobs-Hochheiser법과 같은 실험실적 분석방법과 연속측정이 가능한 자동 Saltzman법, 화학발광법 등이 대표적이다. (대기오염연구회, 2000) 그러나, 이러한 측정 방법은 상대적으로 기술적, 경제적 및 시ㆍ공간적인 제약에 의해 광범위한 지역에 대한 이산화질소 오염 현상을 규명하기 어렵다. 그러나, 분자확산에 기초하여 대기 중의 이산화질소만을 선택적으로 채취하는 passive sampler법은 전원 및 기타장비, 기술 등이 필요치 않아 광범위한 지역에 대한 동시 측정의 목적으로 최근 관심이 증대하고 있다.(UNEP/WHO, 1994) (중략)

In this study, we measured volatile organic compounds in Gimhae city, South Korea. We selected twenty site and measured volatile organic compounds in ambient air by passive sampler when at sampling intervals of two month from April to December 2005. Passive sampler was exposed for fifteen day in ambient air. And samples were analyzed by GC/FID for volatile organic compounds. The results of each measured functional zone, mean concentration of each compound measured were generally higher the industrial complex area and traffic pollution area than residental area. Each area showed similar pattern for the observation period. concentration of measured each compound were the following order: winter > fall > spring > summer.

Passive air samplers with polyurethane foam (PUF) disks were employed to determine seasonal gas phase variation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in ambient air on Anmyeon island from March 2007 to January 2008. Sum of 13 PAHs ranged between $3.5\;ng/m^3$ and $27.6\;ng/m^3$. Total PAHs during the heating season was 6.2 times higher than non-heating season. The dominant PAHs components during sampling periods were low and middle molecular weight PAHs including phenanthrene, fluoranthene, pyrene and chrysene. Gas exchange fluxes of PAHs across the air-water interface of the Yellow Sea were calculated using a modified two-film exchange model. PAHs fluxes ranged from $196\;ng/m^2/d$ net volatilization during summer to $3830\;ng/m^2/d$ net absorption during winter. Passive air sampler provides a convenient and cost-effective tool for measuring averaged gas phase PAHs, which was successfully used for calculation of gas exchange flux of PAHs in the Yellow Sea.
