용적특성상 수퍼페이브 방법과 마샬 방법에 의한 배합설계 결과의 차이점 (Volumetric Property Difference in Mix Design Results by Superpave and Marshall Method)

  • 마샬배합설계에서 얻어지는 안정도나 흐름은 혼합물의 역학적 특성을 제대로 반영하지 못하며 소성변형과의 상관성이 낮다. 그러므로 안정도나 흐름의 기준을 통과하는 배합으로 제조한 혼합물에서도 소성변형이 많이 발생된다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 국내에서 이용되는 마샬 방법과 미국의 수퍼페이브 방법으로 배합설계를 수행하여 각 방법의 혼합물 특성치의 차이점과 문제점을 확인하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 골재 세 종류, 한 종류의 아스팔트(AC 60-80), 두 종류의 골재 입도(19mm, 13mm)를 각각의 배합설계방법에 사용하여 총 12종류의 혼합물을 배합설계를 수행하여 최적아스팔트함량을 결정하였다. 이 결정된 최적아스팔트 함량으로 혼합물을 제조하여 특성치를 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과, 마샬 방법을 통해 결정된 아스팔트 함량이 수퍼페이브 방법에 의 한 함량보다 0.1$\sim$0.3% 포인트 정도 높게 나타났다. 이것은 마샬 방법이 수퍼페이브 방법보다 아스팔트 함량을 높게 결정되도록 골재입도가 주어졌기 때문인데 이것이 소성변형에 상대적으로 취약한 직접적인 원인이 되는지는 더 많은 연구가 필요할 것이다.

캘린더 처리조건이 도공지 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Calendering Variables on the Properties of Coated paper)

  • This study was performed to identify the effect of calendering variables on the properties of coated paper such as sheet gloss, surface roughness, opacity, etc. The effect of calendering variables including the number of nips, pressure, machine speed and moisture content on the properties of coated paper was investigated. The calender was installed with two steel rolls and one cotton-made roll. With this calender, the coated sheets were passed through the calender from 1 to 4 times, applying the linear pressure on calender rolls, 5 through 100kg/cm and operating the machine speed 3 to 12m/min. Also, the moisture content of coated sheet was varied about 5 and 10%. It was found that sheet gloss and surface roughness of coated paper was increased with increasing the number of passing nips, linear roll pressure and the moisture content of coated paper. But it was shown that the opacity and brightness of coated paper were decreased under the above conditions due to the blackening. It was also suggested that the soft nip possibly increased the thermoplasticity of coating layer with the heat of steel roll, resulting in the reinforcement of surface properties positively. The sheet gloss and surface roughness of coated paper could be improved by the longer dwell time over the rolls.

PROLONG THE SERVICE LIFE OF SWITCH RAIL BY IMPROVED INDUCTION HEAT TREATMENT

  • Switch rail is a very important part on the railway track, which not only accounts for the safety of the passing trains but also greatly influences the speed of the train. The higher the speed and the loads of the train the more it demands on the properties of the switch rail. Research shows that the higher mechanical properties of switch rail the longer the service life. Induction heat treatment is a good way of improving the mechanical properties of metallic materials. But the switch rail's section area changes gradually across the lengthways, which is difficult for induction heating especially for the small section. And the mechanical property of small section of the switch rail is the most important for its service life. The induction heat treatment used past always brings the low hardness on small section which can cause low service life of switch for wearing, or too high hardness because of martensite microstructure which can cause the shelling or even breaking of the switch rail. To prolong the service life of switch rail by higher mechanical properties, we researched the improved induction heat treatment for switch rail by adjusting speed of heating, and adopting compressed air cooling. The results showed that switch rail obtain almost the same high hardness across the length way after the improved induction heat treatment, which is very helpful to extend the service life of switch rail.

전기장에 의한 Bi12SiO20 단결정의 변화된 광행로길이 계산 (Calculation of Changed Optical Path Length of Bi12SiO20Single Crystal by the Electric Field)

  • The formula to calculate a variation of optical path length of single crystal by the electric field was derived by this study. The formula was applied to $Bi_{12}SiO_{20}$ single crystal. The results are as follows. In case of the applied electric field in the body diagonal direction and the passing light along the same direction, the variation of optical path length had the largest value. The symmetry of the space distribution of optical path length satisfied $E3C_2\;8C_3$, the set of elements of the symmetry of $Bi_{12}SiO_{20}$ single crystal. The property which gave the largest influence to the variation of optical path length is the strain of length by the Inverse piezoelectric effect. The second influence, is the variation of the refractive index by the electro-optic effect. The variation of optical path length by the inverse piezoelectric effect and by the electro-optic effect have a reverse sign each other.

Modified seismic analysis of multistory asymmetric elastic buildings and suggestions for minimizing the rotational response

  • A modified procedure is presented for assessing the seismic response of elastic non-proportionate multistory buildings. This procedure retains the simplicity of the methodology presented by the author in earlier papers, but it presents higher accuracy in buildings composed by very dissimilar types of bents. As a result, not only frequencies and peak values of base resultant forces are determined with higher accuracy, but also the location of the first mode center of rigidity (m1-CR). The closeness of m1-CR with the axis passing through the centers of floor masses (mass axis) implies a reduced rotational response and it is demonstrated that in elastic systemsa practically translational response is obtained when this point lies on the mass axis.Besides, when common types of buildings are detailed as planar structures under a code load, this response is maintained in the inelastic phase of their response as a result of the almost concurrent yielding of all the resisting bents. This property of m1-CR can be used by the practicing engineer as a guideline to form a structural configuration which will sustain minimum rotational response, simply by allocating the resisting elements in such a way that this point lies close to the mass axis. Inelastic multistory building structures, detailed as above, may be regarded as torsionally balanced multistory systems and this is demonstrated in eight story buildings, composed by dissimilar bents, under the ground motions of Kobe 1995 (component KJM000) and Friuli 1976 (component Tolmezzo E-W).

  • Recently in Korea, some studies on concrete that mass quantity of additives are substituted in order to respond to the government's Low Carbon Green Growth Policy are being conducted. As on of additives, FA as an industrial by-product is used in a large quantity. However, In some of the domestic FA refineries, since some quantity of concrete without passing through the refining process is released for sales for the reasons of the shortening of production time and the cost reduction, etc., it exerts a bad influence on the quality of concrete. Therefore, in this study, there was implemented an experiment on the effects of using an extreme quality of FA which is available for distributing domestically on the engineering characteristics of lean mortar. As a result, it was found that the quality of FA exerts its effect on the compression strength bigger than the flow property or the air volume.

병렬공간 조인을 위한 객체 캐쉬 기반 태스크 생성 및 할당 (Task Creation and Assignment based on Object Caching for Parallel Spatial Join)

  • A spatial join has the property that its execution time exponentially increases in proportion to the number of spatial objects. Recently, there have been many attempts for improving the performance of the spatial join by using parallel processing schemes, In the case of executing parallel spatial join using the parallel machine with shared disk architecture, the disk bottleneck of parallel processing of spatial join worsens in comparison with sequential spatial join. This paper presents the algorithms of task creation and assignment to reduce the disk bottleneck caused by accessing the shared disk at the same time, and to minimize message passing between processors, This paper proposes object caching which is a higher level of abstraction than page caching, and uses it to do creation and assignment of tasks according to temporal and spatial localities for minimizing disk access time. The object caching shows the performance improvement of 50%. The task creation and assignment using localities gives the gain of 30% and 20%. Overall performance evaluation of the proposed algorithms shows 7.2 times speed up than those of sequential execution of spatial joins.

  • Cultural heritage passing down to posterity is a global concern. But there are many culture heritage that not remained to now disappeared by various disasters. It is told that disaster is learnt from disaster. The most fundamental task in disaster prevention is to collect and analyze cases of accidents so as not to repeat a disaster. In other words, an analysis of various disaster-related materials and their countermeasures in the Joseon period is an actual condition-based phenomenological methodology used to prevent disasters at cultural properties today. In this context, it is important to collect histories of disasters in the Joseon period, to extract disaster-related historical data and to categorize the data to build a disaster literature database. This study has produced [Database of Disasters in the Joseon Era], a collection of articles on fire outbreaks based on The Annals and The Daily Records belonging to the Memory of the World. On the basis of this chronology, human and property damages caused by fires in Joseon have been examined, identified by districts, as well as disaster technologies, have been analyzed. It has also built disaster vulnerability maps in the Joseon Dynasty Era.

  • Recently over the world, many studies on the methods for using some binding materials which replace cement, such as FA, etc., for reducing CO2. However, it has sometimes been reported that some cement products without passing through the refining process at some of FA refineries in Korea are released for sales for some reasons of shortening the production time and the cost reduction, etc., so it exerts a bad effect on the quality of many construction structures. Therefore, in this study, it was intended to conduct an experimental review on the effects of using an extreme quality of FA which is distributable domestically on the engineering characteristics of high-strength mortar. As a result, it was judged that it is beneficial for the engineering characteristics of concrete, such as, flow property, air volume and strength, etc, to use some refined FA.

  • Uncertainty of objects in Moving Object Database is a coherent property. It has been discussed in a lot of researches on modelling and query processing. The previous studies assume that uncertain future time is determined through utilizing recent speed and direction of vehicles. This method is simple and useful for estimating the time of the near future location. However, it is not appropriate when we estimate the time of the far future location. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a concept of planned route. It is used to estimate uncertain future time, which has to be located at a given point. If the route of an object is planned beforehand its locations are uncertainly distributed near that route. By a simple projection operation, the probability that a location lies in the planned route is increased. Moreover, we identify the future time of an object based on the speed for passing the route, which is offered via a website.
