We propose a method to find flows of transit users in the subway transportation network of the metropolitan Seoul and analyze the passenger flows on some central links of the network. The transportation network consists of vertices for subway stops, edges for links between two adjacent subway stops, and flows on the edges' Each subway transit user makes a passenger flow along edges of the shortest path from the origin stop to the destination stop in his trip. In this paper, we have developed a new algorithm to find the passenger flow of each link in the subway network from a large trip-transaction database of subway transit users. We have applied the algorithm to find the passenger flows from one day database of about 5 million transactions by the subway transit users. As results of the experiments, the travel behavior on 4 central subway links is analyzed in passenger flows and top 10 flows among all subway links are explained in a table.

Crowd flows occur in metropolitan railway transit stations, terminals, multiple buildings, and stadiums and are important in ensuring the safety as well as smooth flow of pedestrians in these facilities. In this study, the author developed a new computational analysis method for crowd flow dynamics and applied it to models of transit connecting paths. Using the analysis method, the potential value of the exit was assigned the smallest value, and the potential value of the surrounding grids gradually increased to form the overall potential map. A pathline map was then constructed by determining the direction vector from the grid with large potential value to the grid and small potential. These pathlines indicate basic routes of passenger flow. In all models of the analysis object, the pedestrians did not move to the first predicted shortest path but instead moved using alternative paths that changed depending on the situation. Even in bottlenecks in which pedestrians in both directions encountered each other, walking became much smoother if the entry time difference was dispersed. The results of the analysis show that a method for reducing congestion could be developed through software analysis such as passenger flow analysis without requiring hardware improvement work at the railway station.
Numerical analysis has been conducted on three-dimensional airflow distribution in the passenger cabin of a high-speed electric train. The types of air distribution systems investigated in the present study were those of TGV and Shinkansen. The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations governing the mass and momentum conservations of the airflow in the cabin were solved by using a finite volume method, which are coupled with the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model equations. Predicted velocity distributions were presented on several selected planes in the passenger cabin. The present three-dimensional simulations were found to show the overall features of the airflow in the passenger cabin fairly well. In particular, it was shown that the type of air distribution for Shinkansen was more suitable for a non-smoking cabin than that for TGV.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in the inter-city passenger flows since adapting the express rail system in Korea(KTX). For the purpose, we analyze the express bus and rail passenger annual flow data of the before and after adapting KTX. In first, we examine the changes in the time-distance parameters in the inter-city passenger flows of the express bus, general rail, and KTX by applying gravity model. The results reveal that express bus passenger flows are less sensible to the time-distance compare to the rail passenger flows, and the trends have been intensified over time. However, the time-distance parameters for the KTX passenger flows reveal the reverse relationships with the gravity model. The KTX passenger flows expand between the long distance cities. We also apply the MST(Maximum Spanning Tree) method to find out the spatial structural changes in the inter-city passenger flows. The number of hierarchies has been increased in the express bus and general rail passenger flows, while single hierarchical structure has been lasted in the KTX passenger flows.

A numerical parametric study has been accomplished to figure out the effect of grille shape built in a small passenger car on the aerodynamic performance such as drag and mass flow rate through CRFM(Condenser Radiator Fan Module). Three grille opening parameters and three grille mesh parameters are selected and adopted to a simple shape passenger car model. This research will provide a design guideline for grille opening geometry and mesh shape in the grille. FLUENT, which is very well known commercial code, hires k-${\epsilon}$ turbulence model at the driving speed of 110km/h with moving wall boundary condition. A porous media condition is prepared to estimate the pressure drop amount through CRFM parts.

This study aims to forecast of Air Passenger Demand between South Korea and North Korea using the system dynamics analysis methodology that is based on the system thinking. System dynamics is not only a tool that makes the systematic thought to a model but also a computer program-based analysis methodology that mathematically models the system varying according to time variation. This study analyzed the causal relationship based on the interrelation among variables and structured them by considering various variables that affect aviation cooperation from the perspective of Air passenger demand forecasting. In addition, based on the causal relationship between variables, this study also completed the causal loop diagram that forms a feedback loop, constructed the stock-flow diagram of Inter-Korean model using Vensim program. In this study, Air passenger demand was using by the simulation variable value into System Dynamics. This study was difficult to reflect the various variables constituting the North Korea environment, and there is a limit to the occurrence of events in North Korea.
Numerical analysis has been conducted to simulate pedestrian flow in the model of two-storied subway station. Because almost all the subway stations are two or three storied structure, simulations are conducted for the passengers those who get off the train and pass the wicket. Passenger flow analysis is very important factor to design the station and also to manage the operation of subway system. In the subway station, pedestrians move to the horizontal directions as well as vertical ones. Therefore, to consider the movement of pedestrians is necessary for the guarantee of safety and conveniency. As the up and down floors are connected with step, escalator and elevator, the entire movements in the multi-storied station should be simulated as like a 3-dimensional flow. Numerical schemes for the directional sweeping are developed to prevent the dependency on physical structure of station and to determine primary direction and secondary one. By using the developed program, we compared the simulation results of the effects of the location and size of exit and elapsed time.

The flow characteristics under recirculation cool vent mode is numerically studied using commercial fluid dynamic code(CFX). For the reliable analysis, real vehicle and human FE model is employed in grid generation process. The geometrical location and shape of panel vent, and exhaust vent is set as that of real vehicle model. The flowrate of the working fluid is determined as 330CMH which is equivalent to 70 percent of maximum capacity of HVAC system. The high velocity regions are formed around 4 each panel vent. Because of the non-symmetrically located exhaust, non-uniform flow and partial backflow near the door trim is observed. Streaklines start from each panel vent show the flow pattern of the airflow in the passenger's compartment very well.
In this study we investigate the importance of the subway station using network centrality measures. For centrality measures, we have used betweenness centrality, closeness centrality, and degree centrality. A new measure called weighted betweenness centrality is proposed, that combines both traditional betweenness centrality and passenger flow between stations. Through correlation analysis and power-law analysis of passenger flow on the Seoul metropolitan subway network, we have shown that weighted betweenness centrality is a meaningful and practical measure. We have also shown that passenger flow between any two stations follows a highly skewed power-law distribution.

Urban rails and buses are representative public transit systems that not only cooperate with each other, but also compete with each other. In other words, there is a possibility that the overall demand for public transportation may increase due to the introduction of a competitive public transportation system, or there is a possibility that demand will be maintained at the level that is simply converted to a competitive system. The objective of this study is to analyze the change in public transit flow when an additional transit system is introduced in a city with alternative public transit systems. To carry out this objective, we analyzed changes in public transit passenger flow before and after the introduction of an urban rail transit line 3 in Daegu Metropolitan City, where two public transit systems, urban rail and bus, exist. For accurate analysis, big data collected by passenger transportation cards were utilized for one week in the second week of April 2015, 2016, and 2019. From the analysis, it was found that although the urban rail passenger flow increased due to the additional urban rail transit system, the change in the overall public transit passenger flow in the city was insignificant. In other words, it is interpreted that the bus transit passengers have been shifted to the urban transit systems. Based on the results, this study suggested various policies to increase the demand for public transit rather than simply adding public transit systems.
