  • 미세먼지와 함께 질소산화물, 황산화물, 휘발성 유기화합물, 암모니아 비롯한 유발물질에 대한 동시 저감기술은 엄격해지는 환경규제와 실질적인 저감효과 제고를 위해 꾸준히 주목받아 왔다. 오존산화에 의한 비수용성 질소산화물 고속산화 공정은 전통적으로 적용되고 있는 선택적 촉매환원 공정에 비해 공간절약형 시스템 적용을 가능하게 할 뿐만 아니라 운영비용 절감 측면에서 매우 효과적인 방법으로 평가되고 있으며 황산화물을 비롯한 산성가스와 동시 저감이 가능한 공정 구현이 가능하다는 장점까지 있다. 본 논문에서는 오존 고속산화 공정에 대한 기술 이슈 및 개발 동향을 소개하며 향후 산업적 이용 확대를 위한 개발 방향에 대해서 고찰하고자 한다.

몽골 울란바토르 시 전통 주거공간의 실내공기 오염 기초조사 (Indoor air pollution in ger, a traditional type of residence in Mongolia)

  • Objectives: The traditional type of residence in used in Mongolia, called a ger, is an important residential form and applies coal combustion for cooking and heating. The combustion of coal in ger is the major source of indoor air pollution. The purposes of this study were to measure indoor air pollution in ger and determine the effect of cooking and heating activities. Methods: Indoor temperature, relative humidity, particulate matter less than $2.5{\mu}m$ ($PM_{2.5}$) and black carbon (BC) were continuously measured for 24 hours in eight ger. The measurements were conducted in January or February 2015. Heavy metals in $PM_{2.5}$ filter samples were analyzed by ICP-MS. Results: Average indoor temperature and relative humidity were $19.6{\pm}4.6^{\circ}C$ and $21.4{\pm}5.2%$, respectively. The average indoor $PM_{2.5}$ concentration in the eight ger was $119.8{\mu}g/m^3$ and ranged from 69.4 to $202.7{\mu}g/m^3$. The peak concentrations of $PM_{2.5}$ and BC during cooking and heating periods were several times higher than the 24- hour average concentration. Conclusion: The major contributor to indoor $PM_{2.5}$ and BC concentrations in the ger was coal combustion for cooking and heating.

여수시의 대기오염과 일별 사망의 상관성에 관한 연구 - 미세먼지와 이산화황을 대상으로 - (A Time-Series Study of Ambient Air Pollution in Relation to Daily Mortality Count in Yeosu)

  • 본 연구는 2001년 1월부터 2011년 12월까지 국가산단인 여수시 인구집단을 대상으로 일일 사망자료와 환경측정자료 및 기상자료를 이용하여 대기오염 물질 중 미세먼지($PM_{10}$)와 이산화황($SO_2$)이 일별 총 사망과 심혈관계 사망에 미치는 영향을 추정하였다. 대기오염과의 상관성분석은 S-Plus 프로그램을 이용한 generalized additive models(GAM)을 적용하여 시계열(Time-Series) 분석법을 실시하였다. 총 사망의 위해도는 65세 이상에서 $SO_2$의 농도가 11.67ppb(IQR) 증가함에 따라 5.0% 증가하였고, 심혈관계 사망의 위해도는 전체연령에서 8.6% 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 지연효과는 총 사망과 심혈관계 사망의 모든 연령 그룹에서 사망 당일부터 7일 전 $SO_2$농도와 가장 관련성이 높은 것으로 분석되었다.

  • There are a large number or chemical compounds that are present in a polluted atmosphere and that alone or in combination are important to consider for their potential effect on the respiratory system and impact on athletic performance. A general categorization or description of the level of pollution in terms of the concentration of one or more compounds or by type such as oxidizing compounds is inadequate and misleading. A useful initial categorization of pollutant compounds according to their mechanism of production, primary or secondary, is often made. For health effects, consideraiions of the physical state, gaseous or particulate, and the solublity and reactivity of the pollutant is also important. Pollutant compounds or substances that are emitted directly from a source and that undergo little or no chemical change in the atmosphere from source to receptor are termed primary pollutants.

도시 대기중 중금속에 관한 연구 -서울시 신촌지역을 중심으로- (Heavy Metals in Ambient Air at Shinchon Area in Seoul)

  • In order to investigate the character of air pollution by heavy metals and to elucidate the possible sources in Seoul city, this study was performed to measure the concentrations of heavy metals of total suspended particulate and air pollutants such as $SO_2, NO_2, CO, CH_4$, Non-methane hydrocarbon, ozone at the residential-traffic area (shinchon dong) in January and February, 1986. The results are as follows: 1. $SO_2$ and TSP concentration were 135ppb and 167 $\mug/m^3$ in average, respectively. 2. While concentrations of heavy metals such as Fe, Cu, Pb in the ambient air seems gradually decreasing annually, Ni compound has been shown the tendency of increasing. 3. Among heavy metals in TSP analysed, the iron was detected at the highest level, 0.905% and the cadimium was the lowest 0.004% in average, respectively. 4. V, Fe and Zn compounds in air were observed to be highly correlated with their correlation coefficients(r) higher than 0.7. Pb compound was highly correlated to the levels of Zn and Fe, however relatively less correlated to V compound. 5. Among concentrations of heavy metals in the particulates, V and Ni compounds were highly correlated with coefficient(r) of 0.8587; the cause might be imagined by the fact of releasing from combustion of fuel oil. Fe, Pb and Zn compounds were highly correlated $SO_2$ concentration. It might be explained that they were released by combustion of coal. 6. The level of $SO_2$ was highly correlated to most of heavy metals: especially correlation coefficient(r) to Pb compound was 0.9081. Pb compound was also highly correlated to NO, CO and TSP. TSP showed higher correlation to Pb and Cd compounds than to V and Ni compounds. It might be assumed that particulate was mainly produced by combusting coal from space heating and by exhausting gasoline and diesel oil from transportation rather than by burning fuel oil.

Measuring the Effectiveness of an Ecosystem Service to Regulate Air Quality in Wetland, South Korea

  • This study aimed to verify the suitability of an air quality regulating service for wetland ecosystem service evaluation by investigating the effect of reducing particulate matter (PM) on vegetation in wetlands. We installed tunnel-type experimental plots at Yonghwasil Pond in the National Institute of Ecology and set up the input and output of PM by applying the natural vegetation of the relevant wetlands. We took measurements by replicating four different conditions four times each. The air quality regulating service in each experimental plot was measured based on PM10 concentration; further, the difference between the input and the output concentration of PM passing through the Phragmites australis community tunnel was measured using a light scattering method. For the Phragmites australis community in the outdoor conditions and bare land, the PM concentration was measured with the same specifications as tunnel-type experimental plots without setting up the input and output. For the tunnel-type experimental plots, PM10 concentration was significantly lower in the output than in the input. Furthermore, in the outdoor conditions, a comparison between the Phragmites australis community and bare land showed that the concentration was relatively low in the former than in the latter. This confirmed the PM reducing effect due to the blockage and absorption of PM depending on the growth of Phragmites australis. Based on the results of this study, we assessed the air quality regulating service in wetlands as an evaluation indicator.

간이이동법에 의한 폐아스콘 재생시 대기오염물의 배출분석에 대한 실험적 연구 (A Pilot Study on Emission Analysis of Air Pollutants Produced from Portable Recycling of Asphalt Concrete)

  • Currently, portable equipment for recycling of waste asphalt concrete (ASCON) has been used. However, any air pollution control devices are not attached in the simple portable one. Thus, a lot of air pollutants have been produced from recycling processes of waste ASCON which resulted from aging of paved roads or repavement of roads. This study deals with a preliminary result of concentration analysis of air pollutants obtained from a pilot and a real recycling processes of waste ASCON using simple portable recycling equipment. Air pollutants were taken from 4 steps of the pilot recycling process including an initial heating by liquid petroleum gas (LPG), intermediate heating and melting (H&M) process, final H&M process, and pavement processes using recycled ASCON at the recycling site. Also, air pollutants were taken front 4 steps of the real recycling processes including an initial H&M, final H&M and mixing, loading of recycled ASCON to dump trucks, and at the recycling site after leaving the loaded dump trucks for real pavement sites. The air pollutants measured in this study include volatile organic compounds (VOCs), aldehydes, particulate matter (PM: PM1, PM2.5, PM7, PM10, TSP (total suspended particulate)). The identified concentrations of VOCs increased with increasing time or degree for H&M of waste ASCON. In particular, very high concentrations of the VOCs at the status of complete melting, which is exposed to the air, of the waste ASCON just before paving tv the recycled ASCON at the recycling site. Also, considerable amount of VOCs were identified from the recycling equipment after the dump trucks leaded by recycled ASCON leaved the recycling site for the pavement sites. The relative level of formaldehyde exceeded 80% of the aldehydes Identified in the recycling processes. This is because the waste ASCON is exposed to direct flame of LPG during H&M processes. The PM concentrations measured in the winter recycling processes, such as the loading and rotation processes of waste ASCON into/in the recycling equipment for H&M, were much higher than those in the summer ones. In particular, the concentrations of coarse particles such as PM7 and PM10 during the winter recycling were very high as compared those during the summer one.

Characterization of Particulate Emissions from Biodiesel using High Resolution Time of Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer

  • In the past several decades, biofuels have emerged as candidates to help mitigate the issues of global warming, fossil fuel depletion and, in some cases, atmospheric pollution. To date, the only biofuels that have achieved any significant penetration in the global transportation sector are ethanol and biodiesel. The global consumption of biodiesel was rapidly increased from 2005. The goal of this study was to examine the chemical composition on particulate pollutant emissions from a diesel engine operating on several different biodiesels. Tests were performed on non-road diesel engine. Experiments were performed on 5 different fuel blends at 2 different engine loading conditions (50% and 75%). 5 different fuel blends were ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD, 100%), soy biodiesel (Blend 20% and Blend 100%) and canola biodiesel (Blend 20% and Blend 100%). The chemical properties of particulate pollutants were characterized using an Aerodyne High Resolution Time of Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS). Organic matter and nitrate were generally the most abundant aerosol components and exhibited maximum concentration of $1207{\mu}g/m^3$ and $30{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. On average, the oxidized fragment families ($C_xH_yO_1{^+}$, and $C_xH_yO_z{^+}$) account for ~13% of the three family sum, while ~87% comes from the $C_xH_y{^+}$ family. The two peaks of $C_2H_3O_2$ (m/z 59.01) and $C_3H_7O$ (m/z 59.04) located at approximately m/z 59 could be used to identify atmospheric particulate matter directly to biodiesel exhaust, as distinguished from that created by petroleum diesel in the AMS data.

미세먼지 저감을 위한 정책 선정 연구 (Making Primary Policies for Reducing Particulate Matter)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 미세먼지를 줄이고 국민 삶의 질을 개선하기 위해 정부와 지방자치단체간의 역할분담과 협업을 하는 정책수립과정에서 도입하려는 정책의 우선순위를 도출하는 것이다. 심각한 미세먼지 문제는 건강뿐만 아니라 경제 특히 상거래에도 많은 영향을 미치고 있으나, 아직 미세먼지 저감 정책 선정에 관한 연구는 많지 않은 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 환경부와 지자체의 환경정책전문가, 학계 및 환경업계 전문가 25명을 대상으로 AHP 방법론을 사용하여 조사 및 분석하였다. 상위계층은 교통, 생산시설, 생활환경 및 도시계획 관리 분야의 4개로 나누고 각 분야는 다시 3개씩 세분화하여 12개의 정책을 선별하였고, 생산업의 대기오염 감축 의무화 및 공장가동 중단이 가장 우선시되는 정책으로 분석되었다. 본 연구결과는 향후 미세먼지와 관련된 정책 수립 시 가이드라인으로 활용할 수 있다.

위성영상과 민간자동관측시스템 자료를 활용한 도시열섬과 도시오염섬의 공간 분포 특성 - 부산광역시를 대상으로 - (Spatial Distribution of Urban Heat and Pollution Islands using Remote Sensing and Private Automated Meteorological Observation System Data -Focused on Busan Metropolitan City, Korea-)

  • 최근 온도상승으로 인한 폭염 증가와 대기 풍속의 약화가 상호작용하면서 열환경과 미세먼지(PM10)가 문제가 되고 있다. 도시지역 내에서 다른 지역들보다 온도와 대기오염 농도가 높은 도시열섬과 도시오염섬 현상이 나타나고 있음이 알려져 있으나, 공간데이터로 구축 가능한 미세 자료의 부족 등으로 이를 함께 살펴본 연구는 많지 않았다. 최근 위성영상과 민간통신업체의 인프라에서 측정한 빅데이터들이 생산되면서 온도와 대기오염에 대한 세밀한 공간분포 분석이 가능하게 되었다. 이에 본 연구는 부산광역시를 대상으로 도시열섬과 도시오염섬의 공간적 분포패턴을 살펴보고 두 현상의 분포 특성을 비교 분석하고자 하였다. 연구에는 Landsat 8 위성영상의 지표면온도와 민간자동관측시스템에서 도출된 대기온도, 미세먼지농도 데이터를 30m*30m 단위로 격자화하여 공간분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 도시열섬과 도시오염섬이 동시에 발생하는 대표적인 지역들로 취약 주거지역과 공업지역들이 다수 포함되어 있었다. 부산시의 대표적 주거 취약지역으로 알려진 서동, 반송동 등의 주요 정책이주지가 포함되었는데 해당 지역은 소규모 필지에 건축물의 밀도가 상당히 높은 지역으로 통풍, 환기 등에 문제가 많은 주거지역이다. 이러한 지역의 주민 중 상당수는 폭염과 대기오염에 대한 대응 능력이 낮아 관련 정책 수립 시 우선적으로 이 지역들이 고려될 필요가 있다. 도시열섬과 도시오염섬의 동시발생지역에 포함된 공업지역들은 콘크리트나아스콘 기반의 불투수면의 비중이 높고, 식생이 부족할 뿐 아니라 교통량도 많은 것으로 나타났다. 도시열섬과 도시오염섬 분석에 대한 신뢰성을 살펴보기 위해 핫스팟분석을 진행한 결과, 99.96% 이상의 지역이 99% 신뢰수준의 핫스팟지역에 해당함을 확인할 수 있었다.
