The secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$) of the cathode is an important factor for improving the discharge characteristics of AC-PDP, because of its close relationship to discharge voltage. In this experiment, we have investigated the electronic structure of the energy band in the MgO layer responsible for the high ${\gamma}$. We used three kinds of MgO pellet that have another component, and each MgO layers have been deposited by electron beam evaporation method. The work-functions of MgO layer have been investigated from their ion-induced secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$), respectively, using various ions with different ionization energies in a ${\gamma}-FIB$ (Focused Ion Beam) system. We have compared work-function with ${\gamma}-FIB$ system current signal for measurement defect energy level in MgO layer. MgO-A in the three types has lowest work-function value (4.12eV) and there are two defect energy levels.
For the effective design of a beam forming structure of the negative-ion-based neutral beam injector, a computer program based on a particle simulation model is developed for the calculation of charged particle motions in the electrostatic fields. The motions of negative ions inside the acceleration tube of a multiple-aperture triode are computed at finite time steps. The electrostatic potentials are obtained from the Poisson's equation by the finite difference method. The successive overrelaxation method is used to solve the matrix equation. The particle and force weighting methods are used on a cloud-in-cell model. The optimum design of the beam forming structure has been studied by using this computer code for the various conditions of elctrodes. The effects of the acceleration-deceleration gap distance, the thickness of the deceleration electrode and the shape of the acceleration electrode on beam trajectories are exmined to find the minimum beam divergence. Some numerical illustrations are presented for the particle movements at finite time steps in the beam forming tubes. It is found in this particle simulation modelling that the shape of the acceleration electrode is the most significant factor of beam divergence.
A generation of a particle beam is the key technique in a flow cytometry that measures the fluorescence and light scattering of individual cell and other particulate or molecular analytes in biomedical research. Recent methods performing this function require a laborious and time-consuming assembly. In the present work, we propose a novel device for the generation of an axisymmetrical focusing beam of microparticles (3-D focusing) in a single capillary without sheath flows. This work uses the concept that the particles migrate toward the centerline of the channel when they lag behind the parabolic velocity profile. Particle focusing of spherical particles was successfully made with a beam diameter of about 10 ${\mu}$m. Proposed device provides crucial solutions for simple and innovative 3-D particle focusing method for the applications to the MEMS-based micro-flow cytometry. We believe that this device can be utilized in a wide variety of applications, such as biomedical/ biochemical engineering.
In this study, the electric field distributions have been investigated by simulation in accordance with the various shapes of ITO-electrodes. Also we have measured the density of excited Xe atoms in the 1s5 state in discharge cell, where the gap distance of 60 um, gas pressure of 400 Torr, Xe contents of 7%, and sustaining voltage of 200 V are kept in this experiment. The maximum density of excited Xe atoms in the 1s5 state in a discharge cell for the fish-boned, T shaped and squared ITO electrodes have been measured to be $3.01\;{\times}\;10^{13}\;cm^{-3}$, $2.66\;{\times}\;10^{13}\;cm^{-3}$ and $2.06\;{\times}\;10^{13}\;cm^{-3}$, respectively. It is shown that the electric field distribution with different ITO Electrodes is essential factor for these maximum density of excited Xe atoms in discharge cell.

Relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of particle beam needs to be evaluated at particle beam therapy centers before the clinical application of the particle beam. However, since RBE analysis is implemented manually, it is useful to have a tool that can easily and effectively handle the data of experiments to generate cell survival curve and to analyze RBE simultaneously. In this work, the development of a program for RBE analysis of particle beam therapy was presented. This RBE analysis program was developed to include two parts; fitting the cell survival curves to linear-quadratic model and calculating the RBE values at a certain endpoint using fitting results. This program was also developed to simultaneously compare and analyze the template results that stored experiment data with photon and particle beam irradiations. The results of the cell survival curve obtained by each irradiation can be analyzed by the user on a desired data after reading the template stored in the easy-to-use excel file. The analysis results include the cell survival curves with error range, which are appeared in the screen and the ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ parameters of linear-quadratic model with 95% confidence intervals, RBE values, and $R^2$ values to evaluate goodness-of-fit of survival curves to model, which are stored in a text cvs file. This software can generate cell survival curve, fit to model, and calculate RBE all at once with raw experiment data, so it helps users to save time for data handling and to reduce the possibility of making error on analysis. As a coming plan, we will create a user-friendly graphical user interface to present the results more intuitively.

An adaptive beam forming system using a phased array antenna improves communication quality by beam forming adaptively to a communication environment having an interference signal. For adaptive beam forming, a good combination of the phases of the excited signals to each radiating element of the phased array antenna should be calculated. In this paper, improved particle swarm optimization algorithm that adds a re-spreading procedure according to particle density was proposed to increase the probability of good phase shift combination output.
Two physical experiments are performed to verify the effectiveness of beam-particle model for simulating the progressive failure of particulate composites such as sandstone and concrete. In the numerical model, the material is schematized at the meso-level as an assembly of discrete, interacting particles which are linked through a network of brittle breaking beams. The uniaxial compressive tests of cubic and parallelepipedal specimens made of carbon steel rod assembly which are glued together by a mixture are represented. The crack patterns and load-displacement response observed in the experiments are in good agreement with the numerical results. In the application respect of beam-particle model to the particulate composites, the influence of defects, particle arrangement and boundary conditions on crack propagation is approached, and the correlation existing between the cracking evolution and the level of loads imposed on the specimen is characterized by fractal dimensions.
The degradation characteristics of MgO protective layer and phosphors have been investigated in terms of the ion-induced secondary electron emission coefficient ${\gamma}$ and static margin of discharge voltages, respectively, in this experiment. The ion-induced secondary electron emission coefficients ${\gamma}$ for the degraded MgO protective layer and phosphors have been studied by ${\gamma}$ -focused ion beam system. The energy of Ne+ ions used is from 80 eV to 200 eV in this experiment. The degraded MgO and phosphor layers are found to have higher ${\gamma}$ than that of normal ones without degradations or aged one. Also, the static margin of discharge voltages for test panels with degraded MgO protective layer and phosphors been found to be seriously decreased in comparison with those of normal ones without degradations.

The effects of argon neutral beam (NB) energy on the amorphous carbon (a-C) films were investigated, while the a-C films were deposited by neutral particle beam assisted sputtering (NBAS) system. The energy of neutral particle beam can be controlled by reflector bias voltage directly as a unique operating parameter in this system. The deposition characteristics of the films investigated of Raman spectra, UV-visible spectroscopy, electrical conductivity, stress measurement system, and ellipsometer indicate the properties of amorphous carbon films can be manipulated by only NB energy (or reflector bias voltage) without changing any other process parameters. We report the effect of reflector bias voltage in the range from 0 to -1KV. By the increase of the reflector bias voltage, the amount of cross-linked sp2 clusters as well as the sp3 bonding in the a-C film coated by the NBAS system can be increased effectively and the composition of carbon thin films can be changed from nano-crystalline graphite phase to amorphous carbon phase.
The origin of the display current in the surface conduction electron emitter displays has been verified in the calculation of the electron trajectory. Some electrons move directly toward the display surface as an anode current which is generated due to the inertial force of electron motion along the curved electric field lines with a small curvature near the fissure area..
