Syngas combustion characteristics of mass produced oxygen carrier particle (OCN706-1100) were investigated in a pressurized fluidized bed reactor using simulated syngas and air as reactants for reduction and oxidation, respectively. The oxygen carrier showed high fuel conversion, high $CO_2$ selectivity, and low CO concentration at reduction conditions and no NO emission at oxidation conditions. Moreover, OCN706-1100 particle showed good regeneration ability during successive reduction-oxidation cyclic tests up to the 10th cycle. Fuel conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity decreased and CO emission increased as temperature increased. These results can be explained by trend of calculated equilibrium CO concentration with temperature. However, fuel conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity increased and CO emission decreased as pressure and gas residence time increased.
Growth characteristics of silica particles have been studied experimentally using in situ sampling technique from $H_2/O_2TEOS$ diffusion flame with carefully devised sampling probe. Verification of sampling result was done through new method and effects of flame condition and TEOS flow rate on growth characteristics of silica particles were investigated. By comparing particles sampled by thermophoretic sampling in flame with those by collector sampling after probe, particles do not change before and after probe sampling, which was clearly proved from the fact that the result of TEM image analysis makes good agreement with that of SMPS measurement. As flame temperature increases, the effect of coalescence or sintering becomes important mechanism during growth of silica particles, resulting in canceling the effect of coagulation, which makes mean diameter of silica particles increase slowly. With increase in TEOS flow rate, the number concentration of generated silica particle increases but residence time of particles in flame decreases. As a result, there exists upper limit to which the diameter of silica particle increases under same flame condition.
This paper has assessed the flow patterns and settling efficiency in the sedimentation basin using the particle tracking method of the CFD code and has reached the following conclusions: In the original design where no baffle is installed in the sedimentation basin, a large recirculating area where the flow stagnates is created in the right side of the sedimentation basin, with most of the particles moving to the left side of the sedimentation basin following the flow. This biased flow structure in the sedimentation basin reduces the residence time of particles and thereby undermines settling efficiency. The biased flow toward the left side of the sedimentation basin is alleviated by installing a baffle in the sedimentation basin, promptly reducing the fast flow of over 0.7 m/s in the inlet of the sedimentation basin to the rate below 0.2 m/s. In this paper's simulation conditions, if a one-sided baffle is to be installed in the sedimentation basin, placing it 15 meters away from the basin's inlet leads to the best settling efficiency; it has also been analyzed that installing a two-sided baffle-rather than a one-sided one-is a better option in terms of settling efficiency. The highest settling efficiency of 96.2% is achieved when the underwater length of the two-sided baffle is set at 8 meters.

In order to develop a new line injection system for spin draw yarn (FD SDY) fibers, the effect of various parameters in extrusion and melt line conditions on the dispersion and distribution of $TiO_2$ particles within FD PET fibers was investigated. As a result, the dispersibility of $TiO_2$ particles in a PET matrix is found to depend on the particle size and its surface characteristics. Surface modification of $TiO_2$ by dimethyl polysiloxane resulted in the improved dispersibility and affinity of $TiO_2$ particles in the PET matrix. Especially, residence time, mixing temperature, and mixing shear rate in the new line injection system under the SDY spinning process were very important parameters to minimize the agglomeration of $TiO_2$ particles. The FD SDY prepared by the new line injection system was superior to those using the polymerization process and the conventional masterbatch chip dosing process in the color-L and color-b values of the fibers.
The effects of radial heat and $H_2O$ diffusion on the evolution of silica particles in coflow diffusion flames have been studied experimentally. The evolution of silica aggregate particles in coflow diffusion flames has been measured experimentally using light scattering and thermophoretic sampling techniques. The measurements of scattering cross section from $90^{\circ}$ light scattering have been utilized to calculate the aggregate number density and volume fraction using with combination of measuring the particle size and morphology through the localized sampling and a TEM image analysis. Aggregate or particle number densities and volume fractions were calculated using Rayleigh-Debye-Gans and Mie theory for fractal aggregates and spherical particles, respectively. Flame temperatures and volumetric differential scattering cross sections have been measured for different flame conditions such as inert gas species, $H_2$ flow rates, and burner injection configurations to examine the relation between the formation of particles and radial $H_2O$ diffusion. The comparisons of oxidation and flame hydrolysis have also been made for various $H_2$ flow rates using $N_2$ or $O_2$ as a carrier gas. Results indicate that the role of oxidation becomes dominant as both carrier gas($O_2$) and $H_2$ flow rates increases since the radial heat diffusion precedes $H_2O$ diffusion in coflow flames used in this study. The effect of carrier gas flow rates on the evolution of silica particles have also been studied. When using $N_2$ as a carrier gas, the particle volume fraction has a maximum at a certain carrier gas flow rate and as the flow rate is further increased, the hydrolysis reaction Is delayed and the spherical particles finally evolves into fractal aggregates due to decreased flame temperature and residence time.
Size distributions of atmospheric particulate matter (PM) and its water-soluble organic and inorganic components were measured between January and February 2021 at an urban site in Gwangju in order to identify the major factors that determine their size distributions. Their size distributions during the study period were mainly divided into two groups. In the first group, PM, NO3-, SO42-, NH4+ and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) exhibited bi-modal size distributions with a dominant condensation mode at a particle size of 0.32 ㎛. This group was dominated by local production of secondary water-soluble components under atmospheric stagnation and low relative humidity (RH) conditions, rather than long-range transportation of aerosol particles from China. On the other hand, in the second group, they showed tri-modal size distributions with a very pronounced droplet mode at a diameter of 1.0 ㎛. These size distributions were attributable to the local generation and accumulation of secondary aerosol particles under atmospheric conditions such as atmospheric stagnation and high RH, and an increase in the influx of atmospheric aerosol particles by long-distance transportation abroad. Contributions of droplet mode NO3-, SO42-, NH4+ and WSOC to fine particles in the second group were significantly higher than those in the first group period. However, their condensation mode contributions were about two-fold higher in the first group than in the second group. The significant difference in the size distribution of the accumulation mode of the WSOC and secondary ionic components between the two groups was due to the influx of aerosol particles with a long residence time by long-distance transport from China and local weather conditions (e.g., RH).
Pilot-scale soil washing facility was developed and operation condition was determined in order to remediate a soil contaminated with As, Ni and Zn. Soil washing facility is composed of soil particle separation, soil washing and wastewater treatment process. Both oxyanionic As and cationic Ni and Zn were effciently removed using HCl rather 0than H$_2$SO$_4$ and H$_2$PO$_4$. This is why oxyanion and cation metals can be extracted simultaneously from the contaminated soil in acidic solution. Further, the contaminated soils include calcite and then demand much acidity, that is consumption of acid solution. Fine particles are enriched with contaminants, and coarse particles are removed effectively rather than fine particles. As, Ni and Zn are strongly associated with minerals, and then the residence time should be increased for a reaction with washing solution.
Particle size distribution in a Continuous Mixed Suspension Mixed Crystal Removal (CMSMPR) crystallizer has been analyzed using the Population Balance (PB) model. This method presents difficulties when the growth rate of crystal depends on the crystal size. Recent studies indicate that in many cases the growth rate is dependent on size when the crystal sizes are small. In this study, a Residence Time Distribution(RTD) model was proposed to take the size dependence into account together with an appropriate numerical scheme. When compared with the approximate results based on PB model, RTD model results showed improvements also a nucleation effect which is normally unimportant for steady state analysis. Start-up data for NaCl-Water-Ethanol system was compared with computed values.
In this study, finely divided vanadium pentoxide was prepared by carrying vapor of vanadyl trichloride into the flame of an C3H8-O2-H2 with a specially designed burner. The flame-synthesized oxide particles had a nonporous spherical shape with nearly constant diameter in the range of 200-600$\AA$. The surface area of these particles depends on the residence time and the concentration of metal chloride vapor in the burner. The experimental results showed that the growth of particles is controlled by fusion rather than collision. The crystal size of finely divided V2O5 particle was increased after calcination at temperature above 50$0^{\circ}C$.
A new soot particle generation system has been developed and tested. The soot generation system consists of two sections, a fuel supply and a soot production. In the fuel supply module, either liquid fuel precisely controlled by a syringe pump is mixed with preheated carrier gas and rapidly evaporated or gaseous fuel controlled by a MFC is diluted with dilution gas. The soot production module contains a heater that can raise the gas/fuel temperature up to $1400^{\circ}C$. The physical and chemical properties of produced soot particles depend on the type and concentration of fuel, the residence time, and temperature in the soot production section. The soot generation system will be utilized to produce well-defined soot particles for soot studies such as the evaluation of experimental sampling and analysis processes for the quantitative assessment of PM and BC from ships and the adverse health effects on pulmonary and cardiovascular systems of human body.
