Collection characteristics of wet-type rotating porous disk system for air pollutants removal of marine diesel engines (박용디젤기관의 대기오염 저감을 위한 습식 회전형 다공성 디스크 시스템의 집진특성)

  • The main object of this study is to investigate the collection characteristics of wet-type rotating porous disk system experimentally. The experiment is carried out to analyze the pressure drop and collection efficiency for the present system with the experimental parameters such as system inlet velocity, stage number, tube diameter, inlet concentration, etc. In results, for the present system, at 5 stage and ${\upsilon}_{in}=1.8m/s$, the pressure drop becomes significantly lower as $64mmH_2O$ in comparison with that of the conventional wet type scrubber (Venturi scrubber, over $250mmH_2O$). The collection efficiencies increase with higher inlet velocity showing 92, 95.7, 98.4%, while $SO_2$ removal efficiencies decrease with increment of inlet velocity as 80, 65, 50% at ${\upsilon}_{in}=1.08$, 1.44, 1.8 m/s and tube diameter $D_t=10mm$, respectively. The present system is to be considered as an effective compact system for a simultaneous removal of particle/gas phase pollutants from marine diesel engines.

  • One thing to note in cyclone operation and design is to minimize the pressure drop with the enhancement of the efficiency of dust collection. This can be facilitated by the detailed resolution of complex fluid flow occurring inside a cyclone. To this end, the main objective of this study was to obtain the detailed fluid dynamics by the development of a reliable computation method and thereby to figure out the physics of dust collection mechanism for more extreme environment caused by high temperature and pressure condition. First of all, the computer program developed was evaluated against experimental result. That is, the numerical calculation predicts well the data of experimental pressure drop as a function of flow rate for the elevated pressure and temperature condition employed in this study. The increase of pressure and temperature generally affects significantly the collection efficiency of fine particle but the effect of pressure and temperature appears contrary each other. Therefore, the decrease of collection efficiency caused by the high operating temperature mainly due to the decrease of gaseous density can be remedied by increase of operating pressure. After the evaluation of the program, a series of parametric investigations are performed in terms of major cyclone design or operating parameters such as tangential velocity and vortex finder diameter for dusts of a certain range of particle diameters, etc. As expected, tangential velocity plays the most important effect on the collection efficiency. And the efficiency was not affected significantly by the change of the length of vortex finder but the diameter of vortex finder plays an important role for the enhancement of collection efficiency.

  • In this paper Various aerosol cyclones that are developed recently form Kwangju Institute of Science and Technology(KJIST) for increasing collection efficiency or for decreasing pressure drop are reviewed. For the first time, new sets of experimental data are reported on the particle collection efficiency of cyclones with modified surface bodies namely, spiral guide body, circumferential groove body, and vertical groove body. Multi-cylinder cyclones by adding one or two additional cylindrical walls into the conventional cyclone are also described. Ad an attempt to increase the collection efficiency of small particles, electrocyclone using an externally applied electric field was designed and operated. In addition, factors affecting the cyclone performance were studied including flowrate, body and outlet sizes, cyclone dust outlet, and gas property.

  • The purpose of this study is providing basic data to control the air pollutants from solid waste incinerator. Incinerating the waste wood, the electrostatic precipitator had the best collection efficiency. The leather incineration had the same collection efficiency as synthetic resin incineration. And the coarse particle collection efficiency was high. As you know in correlation of leather incineration. pollutants produced a from incinerator are mostly fine particles. If the scrubber used only in the process produced a lot of fine particles. It is adequate to use the above control devices, together with high efficiency collector like bag-filter. To select the adequate control devices, it is required to investigate the size distribution before establishing control devices.

Effective Control of fine Particles Using an Electrostatic Coagulation Between Particle and Water Droplet (입자와 액적간의 정전기적 응집을 통한 미세입자의 효율적인 제어)

  • A charged droplet scrubber was introduced to remove visible smokes generated in many industrial facilities. Lab-scale and field tests were conducted in this study. The system consists of a corona discharger to effectively charge the fine particles, fellowed by an electrostatic chamber to promote coagulation between charged fine particles and oppositely charged droplets and a demister to remove resultant particles. Overall collection efficiency, 98.4% was obtained from a lab-scale test, when a high voltage was applied to an ionizer and a charged droplet scrubber. Field tests also show the high collection efficiencies, 93.5% with one stage and 99.4% with two stage system. This system can be used to increase the collection efficiency of the conventional air pollution control devices to satisfy the national emission standard.

  • In electrostatic airclean filter, the collection efficiency defends on particle charge in the ionizer section. The effect of electrostatic airclean filter condition (deposition of dust, variation of corona discharge current) on corona discharge characteristics was well studied. However, it seems not to be studied on corona discharge characteristics of electrostatic airclean filter respect to contaminated electrode which is caused by practical use. In this paper, Long-term(60days) effects are studied experimentally by two methods. The one is ozone concentration, the other is collection efficiency. Generation of ozone level was increased but collection efficiency was slightly reduced in long-term used electrostatic airclean filter.

  • In order to get the high collection efficiency of the electrocyclone. the effect of inlet and electrode shapes must be well grasped. In this study, performance characteristics of electrocyclone with different inlet and electrode shapes were experimentally investigated and compared as a function of particle size. Experimental results indicated that the helical inlet and tooth electrode have effect on significantly increasing collection efficiency.
