  • Indium tin oxide ($In_2Sn_{1-x}O_{5-y}$) nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method from stable indium tin acetylacetone complexes and postannealing at $600^{\circ}C$. The absence of chlorine ions shortened the synthesis process, decreased the particle agglomeration and improved the particle purity. The introduced complexing ligand acetylacetone decreased the obtained nanoparticle size. The improved powder properties accelerated the sintering of the $In_2Sn_{1-x}O_{5-y}$ nanoparticles and reached a relative density of 96.4% when pressureless sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$.

  • Experiments have been made to test the practical feasibility of using calcined manganese ore to desulfurize hot reducing gas. In this study, the effects of particle size of sorbents, temperature of sulfidation, flow rate and sorbent characteristics on the $H_2S$ removal efficiency of calcined manganese ore were investigated. Experimental results showed that the removal efficiency of $H_2S$ was optimum when the temperature was about 800$\circ$C and that the smaller particle size the higher the $H_2S$ removal efficiency. When the temperature was above 800$\circ$C, the reactivity of sorbent has lowered because agglomeration of sorbent increased intraparticle transport resistance, and this phenomenon was confirmed by SEM photographs. As the temperature increases, capacity for the $H_2S$ removal was increased but the equilibrium concentration of $H_2S$ was not affective.

  • This is about the effects deoxidization, carbonization and alloying preparation on fine grain W, WC, and grade YG8 powder reduced by "yellow tungsten oxide" and "blue tungsten oxide". The result indicates that yellow tungsten has single composition and blue tungsten oxide has complex composition. With this feature, yellow tungsten oxide got better uniformity and concentration distribution on fine particle size W and WC powder than blue tungsten oxide's. The grade alloy YG8 that made of this W or WC powder has uniform alloy construction, concentrated WC grain distribution and better alloy properties.

  • In this study, the effect of mixing condition of raw material powders possessing various particle size and particle size distribution on thermite reaction efficiency was investigated. When fine raw powders are used, rather the reaction yield tends to decrease due to agglomeration. In contrast, coarse raw powders make deteriorate the contact area between raw material powders containing Al reducing agent. To ensure the optimal thermite reaction efficiency, it is required to optimize a mixture condition of raw material powders prior to thermite reaction. From the current experiment, the maximum thermite reaction efficiency is 77%, which came from Nb2O5 + NiO +Al mixtures with size distribution from 9.25 to 22.63 ㎛.

  • For mass product of nanocrystalline ZnO ultrafine powders, self-sustaining combustion process(SCP) and ultrasonic spray combustion method(USCM) were applied at the same time. Ultrasonic spray gun was attached on top of the vertical type furnace. The droplet was sprayed into reaction zone of the furnace to form SCP which produces spherical shape with soft agglomerate crystalline ZnO particles. To characterize formed particles, fuel and oxidizing agent for SCP were used glycine and zinc nitrate or zinc hydroxide. Respectively, with changing combustion temperature and mixture ratio of oxidizing agent and fuel, the best ultrasonic spray conditions were obtained. To observe ultrasonic spray effect, two types of powder synthesis processes were compared. One was directly sprayed into furnace from the precursor solution (Type A), the other directly was heated on the hot plate without using spray gun (Type B). Powder obtained by type A was porous sponge shape with heavy agglomeration, but powder obtained using type B was finer primary particle size, spherical shape with weak agglomeration and bigger value of specific surface area. 9/ This can be due to much lower reaction temperature of type B at ignition time than type A. Synthesized nanocrystalline ZnO powders at the best ultrasonic spray conditions have primary particle size in range 20~30nm and specific surface area is about 20m$^2$/g.

  • The co-deposited behavior was investigated under varied bath compositions and current densities from Watt Ni plating bath containing Al and A1$_2$O$_3$powders. For single-particle bath, Al and A1$_2$O$_3$particles were agglomerated. The area percentage of A1$_2$O$_3$on plating surface decreased with increasing the current density, while that of Al on plating surface increased. On the other hand, in case of double-particle bath with 1.25g/$\ell$ of Al and 5.0g/$\ell$ of A1$_2$O$_3$5g, the area percentage of Ni-Al-A1$_2$O$_3$increased with increasing current density and the surface morphology was fine without agglomeration. Intermetallic compounds such as $\gamma$'and $\gamma$+$\gamma$' phases appeared when the co-deposited film was annealed.

  • Fine LaAlO$_3$ powders wore successfully synthesized from La$_2$O$_3$ and ${\gamma}$ $Al_2$O$_3$ powders milling for 10∼50 hours via the high energy milling technique (mechanochemical method) in room temperature and air. The particle size of LaAlO$_3$ powder were estimated from XRD patterns and SEM images to be 160∼180 nm. The LaAlO$_3$ ceramics arc derived for the synthesized powders (milling for 10, 30 and 50 hours) by sintering at 140$0^{\circ}C$ and 150$0^{\circ}C$. The micrographs of grains showed an agglomeration and the degree of agglomeration increased with the milling time. The LaAlO$_3$ made from synthesized powders milling for 50 hours can be sintered to 99.5% of theoretical density at 150$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. These ceramics exhibits a dielectric constant of 20, a dielectric loss of 0.0003 and a temperature coefficient of capacitance of 15 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ at 1 MHz.

  • The improvement of dispersion stability for the primary polishing slurry in a CMP process is achieved to prevent defects produced by agglomeration of the slurry. The dispersion properties are analyzed according to the physical characteristics of each silica sol sample. Further, the difference in the dispersion stability is confirmed as the surfactant content. The dispersibility results measured by Zeta potential suggest that the dispersion properties depend on the content and size of the abrasive in the primary polishing slurry. Moreover, the optimum ratio for high dispersion stability is confirmed as the addition content of the surfactant. Based on the aforementioned results, the long-term stability of each slurry is analyzed. Turbiscan analysis demonstrates that the agglomeration occurs depending on the increasing amount of surfactant. As a result, we demonstrate that the increased particle size and the decreased content of silica improve the dispersion stability and long-term stability.

  • The electrophoretic deposition process of Ni nano-particles in organic suspension was employed for self-repairing of heat exchanger tubes. For this purpose, Ni nano-particles prepared by levitational gas condensation method were dispersed into the solution of ethanol with the addition of dispersant Hypermer KD2. For electrophoretic deposition of Ni nano-particles on the Ni alloy specimen, constant electric fields of 20 and 100 V $cm^{-1}$ were applied to the specimen in Ni-dispersed solution. It was found that as electrophoretic deposition proceeds, the size of the pit or crack remarkably decreased due to the agglomeration of Ni nano-particles at the pit or crack. This strongly suggests that the electrophoretic mobility of the charged particles is larger for the damaged part with a higher current value rather than outer surfaces with a lower current value.
