The Efficacy of Zoom Technology as an Educational Tool for English Reading Comprehension Achievement in EFL Classroom

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of real-time remote video instruction using zoom on learners' English reading achievement. The study also sought to identify the efficiency of zoom video lectures and consider supplementing them by surveying learners' opinions and satisfaction regarding zoom video lectures. To this end, control and experimental groups were set up, and two achievement tests and a questionnaire were conducted. The study's results demonstrated that zoom video lectures have a positive effect on learners' English reading achievement. The questionnaire found that learners are satisfied with zoom video lectures for the following reasons: 'increased interest in and motivation towards learning', 'self-directed learning', 'active interaction', 'ease of access', 'ease of information retrieval'. At the same time, the questionnaire also found that some learners are dissatisfied with zoom video lectures due to 'mechanical errors or defects', 'poor audio quality', and 'the need to add customized functions for efficient classes'. In practice, zoom video lectures must be supplemented with automatic attendance processing, convenient data upload and download, and more efficient video screen management. Given the recent increase in online classes, we, as instructors, must develop teaching activities and/or strategies for video lectures that can encourage active participation by learners.

과학교육을 위한 전략적 실행공동체의 형성 가능성 탐색 -과학중점학교를 중심으로- (Exploring the Possibility of Forming the Strategic Community of Practice for Science Education: A Case of Science Core Schools in Korea)

  • 본 연구는 학교 과학교육 현장을 실행공동체적 관점에서 살펴보고 학교 차원의 전략적 실행공동체의 형성 가능성을 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 전국의 14개 과학중점학교 학생 1600여명을 대상으로 SCaCoP 검사를 실시하여 과학교실 내의 실행공동체적 특징을 점검하고, 학교 교육과정의 과학교육활동 중 학생들에게 긍정적 영향을 미친 활동과 그 영향을 분석하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학중점학교의 교육과정이 두드러지게 운영되는 과학중점과정은, 학교 내의 자연과정 및 인문과정에 비해, SCaCoP의 5개 모든 요인(학습책임감, 호혜적 인간관계, 개방적 참여, 실행, 공동의 관심사)에서 실행공동체적 특성이 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 과학중점과정 학생들은 긍정적으로 인식하는 활동으로 구성원간의 상호작용과 협력이 필수적인 공동체 활동인 '실험', '체험활동', '동아리', '과제연구', 'R&E' 등을 들었다. 셋째, 학생들은 과학중점학교의 활동이 '자기주도적 학습', '학습성과 공유', '동료와의 협력' 등에 긍정적이라고 인식할 뿐만 아니라 '교과 외 과학지식 습득', '교과 내 과학개념 이해', '과학 관련 태도 형성' 등 일반적인 과학교육의 목표들에 대해서도 긍정적이라고 응답하여 실행공동체를 활성화 하는 데 효과적인 교육활동들이 과학교육적 측면에서도 긍정적인 효과를 얻고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 과학중점학교의 특징들은 우리나라의 학교 교육 맥락에서 전략적 실행공동체의 형성과 이를 통한 과학교육 혁신의 가능성을 잘 예시한다고 하겠다.

블렌디드 액션러닝프로그램이 대학생의 자기주도적 학습능력에 미치는 영향 (An effect of Blended Action Learning Program on the Self Directed Learning Skills)

  • 본 연구는 블렌디드 액션러닝프로그램이 대학생의 자기주도적 학습능력 향상에 미치는 영향을 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 수도권 D 대학의 사범대학 학생들을 대상으로 실험집단 30명, 통제집단 30명을 구성하여 연구를 수행하였다. 연구대상의 평균연령은 22.3세이며, 2-4학년 재학생으로 인구통계학적 배경은 비교적 동질적이다. 교육사회학(교직과목) 수업에서 실험을 수행하였다. 연구는 학기 초에 자기주도적 학습 능력을 사전 검사하였다. 이후에 실험집단은 블렌디드 액션러닝프로그램으로 수업을 진행하였고, 통제집단은 액션러닝프로그램으로 수업을 진행하였다. 학기가 종료되는 시기에 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 자료 분석은 사전 검사 점수를 고려하여 집단 간 사후 검사 점수를 비교하기 위해 공분산분석(ANCOVA)을 수행하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 대학생들의 자기주도적 학습능력 향상을 위해서는 액션러닝프로그램 보다 블렌디드 액션러닝프로그램이 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 인지적, 경험적 수준이 낮은 학습자 대상의 수업에서는 액션러닝프로그램 보다 블렌디드 액션러닝프로그램이 더욱 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 학습자원 관리와 학습전략 활용 측면에서는 액션러닝프로그램과 블렌디드 액션러닝프로그램 공히 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 내용을 종합해볼 때 대학생의 자기주도적 학습능력을 향상하기 위해서는 다양한 교수방법 중 전통적 집단강의보다 학습자들의 참여 및 실천학습 방법인 액션러닝프로그램이 효과적인 교수방법이지만, 대학생들의 지적, 경험적 측면의 초보적 수준을 고려할 때 블렌디드 액션러닝프로그램의 적극적 활용이 요구된다.

전남지역 일부 치위생과 학생의 윤리교육에 따른 도덕성 발달수준 평가 (An Evaluation of the level of moral development of dental hygiene students by ethics education in the province of Jeonnam)

  • This study was conducted to evaluated the level of moral development of dental hygiene students in Korea. Data were collected through self reported questionnaires received from 197 dental hygiene students from May 6 to 28, 2008. The Korean version of the DIT(Defining issues Test) was adopted to evaluate levels of moral development that the score of P(%) and stage 4. The data were analyzed by a descriptive analyses and t-test. The mean score of P(%) and stage 4 was $45.21{\pm}12.69$ and $21.28{\pm}11.06$ respectively. The score of P(%) revealed significant difference by experience of ethical education, medical ethics education and work ethics education and necessity of medical and work ethics education, clinical practice exercise. The score of stage 4 revealed significant differences by necessity of work ethics education, participation of ethics education and importance of ethics education. In conclusion, for enhancing dental hygienists' moral development it is necessary to improve the curriculum and to develop the ethics education.

간호교육 철학정립 및 교육과정 개발을 위한 기초조사 (A Preliminary Study on Setting Philosophy and Curriculum Development in Nursing Education)

  • The purpose of this study is to guide the direction of the Korean nursing education to analysize ⑴ the philosophy and objectives ⑵ curriculum, and ⑶ educational environment. This analysis is based on the data from 50 nursing schools (14 4-year colleges and 35 3-year colleges) The survey was conducted from Dec. 1986 through Jan. 1987 by mail. 1) Educational philosophy and objectives 10 4-year colleges and 8 3-year college program have curricular philosoph. Most popular curricular philosophies are human beings, health, nursing, nursology, nursing education, nurses role in the present and in the future. 10 nursing schools mentioned that human being is the subject to interact with : environment physically, mentally and socially. 2 schools mentioned that health is the state of functioning well physically, mentally and socially. 13 schools mentioned that the nursing is the dynamic act to maintain and to promote the highest possible level of health. 4 schools mentioned that the nursology is an applied science. 4 schools mentioned that nursing education is the process to induce the behavioural changes based on the individual ability. There is different opinion about the nurses' role between 4-year college and 3-year college. In the responses from 4-year colleges they focus on the leadership in effective changes, self-regulating and self-determining responsibilities, applying the new technology, continuing education, and participation in research to further nursing knowledge. In the responses from 3-year colleges, they focus on the education in college, primary health care nursing, direct care provider and public health education. Among 50 respondents 40 schools have educational goals which can be divided into two categories. One is to establish the moral and the other is to develop the professionalism. 2) Curriculm The analsis of curriculum is only based on the data from the 4-year colleges because the most of 3-year colleges follow the curriculum guideline set by the Ministry of Education. a) Comparison of the credits in cultural subject and in nursing major. The average required credit for graduation is 154.6 and the median credit is the range of 140-149. The average credit of cultural subjects is 43.4. In detail, the average number of credit of required course and elective courses are 24.1 and 19.3 respectively. The average credit for major subject is 111.2. In detail, the average credit for required courses and electives course are 100.9 and 10.4 respectively. In 5 colleges, students are offered even on elective course b) Comparison of the credit by class. The average earned credits are as follows : 41.1 in freshman, 400 in sophormore 38.3 in junior and 32.4 in senior. Cultural subjects are studied in early phases. c) Comparison of the compulsory and elective cultural subject by institute. The range of credit is 7-43 in compulsory cultural subjects and there are lot of differences among institutions. While all respondents require liberal arts as compulsary subjects, few respondents lists social science, natural science and behavioral science as required subjects. Social science-related subjects are frequently chosen as cultural subjects d) Distribution of creditsin cultural subjects by institute. The liberal art subjects are taught in 20 institute. English and physical education courses are taught in all instituions. The social science subjects are taught in 15 colleges and the basic Psycology and the Basic sociology are the most popular subjects. The natural science subjects are taught in 7 colleges and Biology and Chemistry are the most popular subjects among them. e) Distribution of credits in major basic courses by institute. Most of the institutes select Anatomy, Microbiology, Physiology, biochemistry and Pathology as basic major courses. f) Comparison of the required and elective courses for nursing major by institutions. Subjects and credit ranges in major are varing by institute. More than half of the respondents select the following subjects as required major subjects. (1) Adults Health Nursing and Practice (19.5 credits) (2) Mother and Child Care and Practice (8.9 credits) (3) Community Health Care and Practice (8.5 credits) (4) Psychiatric Nursing Care and Practice (8.1 credits) (5) Nursing Management and Practice (3.9 credits) (6) Fundamental of Nursing, Nursing Research and Health Assessment and Practice. Three institutions select Introduction to nursing, Rehabilitation Nursing, School Nursing, Public Health Nursing, Nursing English, Communication, Human Development as electives in nursing major. 3) Educational environment a) Nursing institution There are forty-three 3-year colleges and seventeen 4-year colleges and 81.4% of which are private b) Number of students and faculty 19.2% of the students are in 4-year colleges and 80.8% of the students are in 3-year colleges. In 4-year colleges, the number of nursing faculty members is in the other of assistant professor, instructor and professor. In 3-year colleges, the orderiis lecturer, associate professor, full time instructor and assistant professor. In 4-year colleges, 18.8 students are allocated per nursing faculty and in 3-year colleges, 33.1 students are allocated per nursing faculty. c) Clinical practices 66.7% of the 4-year colleges practice over 1201 hours in clinic and 28.5% of 3-year colleges practice over 1201 hours in clinic. In 4-year colleges, 11.5 students are allocated per nursing faculty and in 3-year colleges,17 students are allocated per nursing faculty The survey shows no difference in the procedure between 4-year colleges and 3-year colleges but 3-year colleges choose the more variety practicing site such as special hospital and community health clinic. d) Audiovisual facilities The survey shows a lot of difference in audiovisual facilities among institution and 3-year colleges are less equipped than 4-year colleges.

플립러닝을 적용한 알고리즘 이론교과목의 효과적인 교수학습방법 설계 (Design of Effective Teaching-Learning Method in Algorithm theory Subject using Flipped Learning)

  • 최근 새로운 산업 환경의 변화에 필요한 맞춤형 기업 인재양성을 위한 효과적인 교수학습방법으로 플립러닝이 주목 받고 있다. 기존 강의식 수업방식의 경우 중도탈락률이 높고 창의적 문제 해결력을 저해하는 등의 다양한 문제점이 있다. IT 공과대학의 경우 선수 교과목의 선행이 필요한 전공 이론과목이 대부분이므로 학생들의 학습 참여도와 학업 성취도를 높일 수 있는 효과적인 교수학습방법의 개발이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 학생들의 학습 동기를 유발하고 자기 주도적 학습을 통한 학습 효과를 높이기 위해 플립러닝과 실습수업을 병행한 5단계 플립러닝 수업모형을 제안하였다. 또한 컴퓨터공학과의 알고리즘 수업에 적용하여 학습 효과를 분석하고 그 결과를 바탕으로 문제점 및 활용방안을 제시하고자 한다.

Capability for Change at Community Health Centers Serving Asian Pacific Islanders: An Exploratory Study of a Cancer Screening Evidence-based Intervention

  • Background: Understanding and enhancing change capabilities, including Practice Adaptive Reserve (PAR), of Community Health Centers (CHCs) may mitigate cancer-related health disparities. Materials and Methods: Using stratified random sampling, we recruited 232 staff from seven CHCs serving Asian Pacific Islander communities to complete a self-administered survey. We performed multilevel regression analyses to examine PAR composite scores by CHC, position type, and number of years worked at their clinic. Results: The mean PAR score was 0.7 (s.d. 0.14). Higher scores were associated with a greater perceived likelihood that clinic staff would participate in an evidence-based intervention (EBI). Constructs such as communication, clinic flow, sensemaking, change valence, and resource availability were positively associated with EBI implementation or trended toward significance. Conclusions: PAR scores are positively associated with perceived likelihood of clinic staff participation in cancer screening EBI. Future research is needed to determine PAR levels most conducive to implementing change and to developing interventions that enhance Adaptive Reserve.

가네의 교수사태 이론을 적용한 "도서관과 정보생활" 교과목 지도안 개발 및 효과분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Lesson Plan and Effectiveness Analysis for "Library and Information Life" Subjects using Gagné's Instructional Events Theory)

  • 가네는 효과적인 교수·학습을 위한 9가지의 교수사태-주의집중, 학습목표 제시, 선수학습능력 재생, 학습자료 제시, 학습지침 제공, 학생수행 요구, 피드백 제공, 성취행동 평가, 파지와 전이-를 제안하였다. 가네의 이론은 학생들의 참여를 높이고, 체계적으로 수업을 전개할 수 있기 때문에 여러 교과에서 널리 적용되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 가네의 교수사태 이론을 적용하여 중학교 '도서관과 정보생활' 교과의 학습지도안을 개발하고 그 효과를 검증하는데 목적이 있다. 연구절차는 다음과 같다. 중학교 '도서관과 정보생활'의 정보분석과 이해)을 가네의 교수사태이론을 적용하여 학습지도안을 개발하고 실제 수업을 진행한 후, 학생 평가, 동료교사 평가, 교수자 자기 평가를 실시하였다. 평가 결과를 바탕으로 학습지도안의 수정 및 개선 방안을 제시하였다.

공동주택의 음식물 생쓰레기 분리배출과 지렁이퇴비화를 이용한 음식물쓰레기 감량 및 자원화 모델 연구 (Research on Reduction and Recycling of Food Waste by Separating Raw Food Waste and Earth Worm Composting in the Apartment)

  • In this research, food waste source reduction model for apartment was investigated. In spite of prohibition of direct landfill of food waste and continuous efforts made by government and local government, food waste production increases steadily. Recycling ratio of the food waste increases every year, but its products have many problems like low quality, stability, salt, odor etc. Household occupies 63.3% of whole food waste production and this is subject to be a key factor to control food waste. We surveyed S apartment in Kwangju city as a model case, in which administrative office and women's association adopted clean plate eating, separation of raw food waste and earth worm composting as a series of method for source reduction and recycling inside the apartment. With the help of residents' participation and practice, food waste production decreased 15.6% from 0.31 g/capita/day in 2007 to 0.26 g/capita/day in 2009 (domestic average 0.30 g/capita/day). Separation of raw food waste and its composting using earth worm were very effective, and were subject to resolve the problems of present food waste treatment technologies. And earth worm composting was very useful in environmental, economical, societal and educational aspects. Instead of economical incentive, educational programs about food value, environmental problem and critical method for food waste separation were more effective for promotion of source reduction. From the analyses on the process and success factors in this model, we could conclude that leader's role was one of the key factors for the settlement of source reduction, and that was to understand the seriousness of the food waste and to seek solution, to test techniques, and to practice by oneself. Furthermore, networking and collaboration among residents, local government, NGO and local press promoted residents' participation, and it was through various education and investigation. Finally, source reduction and self recycling model of food waste in the apartment, that applies separating raw food waste and earth worm composting based on the collaboration among residents, local government, NGO, and local press, should be disseminated, and environmental policy also should be changed to make it possible.

치주질환자 구강관리능력 향상을 위한 치면세균막관리(잇솔질교육)에 관한 연구 (The effect of plaque control (tooth brushing instruction) for oral health improvement on periodontitis patients)

  • Objectives : The aim of the trial was to study the effect of plaque control(tooth brushing instruction) for oral health improvement on periodontitis patients. Methods : 30 patients(35~65 years) with advanced periodontal disease were subjected to a baseline examination including assessment of oral hygiene status(O'leary index), gingival condition(bleeding). the assessment were repeated after 2, 4, 6 weeks. cognitive, behavioral and clinical outcomes were assessed in the primary care setting by questionnaire and clinical oral examination. Results : The oral hygiene status expressed as the individual mean percentage of tooth surfaces with plaque 59.3% at baseline and 21.2% after 6 weeks(p<0.001). The gingival bleeding status expressed as the individual mean point of interdental papilla 3.8 at baseline and 1.9 after 6 weeks(p<0.001). Also, the patients self-assessment about correct tooth brushing behavior was 3.9(5-point likert scales), satisfaction of plan practices 4.1(5-point likert scales), efficacy of tooth brushing instruction 8.7(10-point likert scales). Patients wanted to continuous participation. Conclusions : A verification of effect after individualized oral health instruction and repeated dental plaque control represented to significance on plaque control score, oral care practice and oral health recognition. The important oral care step against periodontal disease is to establish good oral health habits. Also, oral health behavior recognition is more important for the practice of oral health. Therefore professional plaque control and tooth brushing instruction absolutely need in improving oral health.
