Comer Detection of Parking Lot Using Multiple Echo Ultrasonic (초음파의 멀티 에코 기능을 이용한 주차 공간의 코너 감지법)

  • In this paper, ultrasonic range system which detects parking lot in parking area is studied. The important part for detecting parking lot accurately is to detect the first and second corners of possible parking lot, and for that, new method using multiple echo function is introduced in this paper. Many probabilistic methods have been used to reduce uncertainties of ultrasonic sensor for distance and location of objects. Method using multiple echo, however, gives accurates results as well as simple algorithm. For experiments in parking space, ultrasonic range system was attached to a Pioneer AT-2 and final parking space map was created in a fusion with position information from wheels of a Pioneer AT-2. We will show the results are compared with error of another methods.

A Method of Searching Nearest Neighbor Parking Lot to Consider Realtime Constrains for Integrated Parking Control (통합 주차관제를 위한 실시간 제약 조건을 고려한 최근접 주차장)

  • For a integrated system to control several parking lots within a commercial district, it is required to guide a route to a nearest neighbor parking lot considering diverse realtime constraints such as realtime status of parking lots and changes of an access route. This paper proposes an optimized route-searching technique of integrated parking control system considering realtime contraints. In concrete, it proposes a method of researching a route in the surrounding area considering various status of parking lots that a customer designates (no parking, closed, under construction, no passing of a road) and deals with a route-searching technique optimized for each situation in detail.

Parking Space Recognition for Autonomous Valet Parking Using Height and Salient-Line Probability Maps

  • An autonomous valet parking (AVP) system is designed to locate a vacant parking space and park the vehicle in which it resides on behalf of the driver, once the driver has left the vehicle. In addition, the AVP is able to direct the vehicle to a location desired by the driver when requested. In this paper, for an AVP system, we introduce technology to recognize a parking space using image sensors. The proposed technology is mainly divided into three parts. First, spatial analysis is carried out using a height map that is based on dense motion stereo. Second, modelling of road markings is conducted using a probability map with a new salient-line feature extractor. Finally, parking space recognition is based on a Bayesian classifier. The experimental results show an execution time of up to 10 ms and a recognition rate of over 99%. Also, the performance and properties of the proposed technology were evaluated with a variety of data. Our algorithms, which are part of the proposed technology, are expected to apply to various research areas regarding autonomous vehicles, such as map generation, road marking recognition, localization, and environment recognition.

  • IoT (Internet of Things) technologies have largely contributed to our smart living environment. The smart parking system is one of the prominent services that IoT supports. To identify the parked vehicles, the previous parking system use special identifying devices, the RFID tags carried by the users, and the high quality camera to recognize the vehicle license numbers. However, the previous methods cause cost inefficiency and unfriendly usages. To address these problems, we propose a smart parking system based on ultrasonic sensors and Bluetooth communication. The proposed system decides the available slots by using the sensor motes located in the parking spaces. Also it recognizes the location of the parked vehicle using Bluetooth RSSI between a Smartphone and the sensor motes. In addition, based on these converging technologies, it can support the parked routes of vehicles for users. To evaluate the implemented smart parking system, we applied the RSSI transform equations and the recognition rate for parked vehicles. As a result, the accurate rate of transformed distances could be measured.

Auto-parking Controller of Omnidirectional Mobile Robot Using Image Localization Sensor and Ultrasonic Sensors (영상위치센서와 초음파센서를 사용한 전 방향 이동로봇의 자동주차 제어기)

  • This paper proposes an auto-parking controller for omnidirectional mobile robots. The controller uses the multi-sensor system including ultrasonic sensor and camera. The several ultrasonic sensors of robot detect the distance between robot and each wall of the parking lot. The camera detects the global position of robot by capturing the image of artificial landmarks. To improve the accuracy of position estimation, we applied the extended Kalman filter with adaptive fuzzy controller. Also we developed the fuzzy control system to reduce the settling time of parking. The experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed controller.

  • A Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a kind of search techniques used to find exact or approximate solutions to optimization and searching problems. This paper discusses the design of a genetic algorithm-based intelligent parking system. This is a search strategy based on the model of evolution to solve the problem of parking systems. A genetic algorithm for an optimal solution is used to find a series of optimal angles of the moving vehicle at a parking space autonomously. This algorithm makes the planning simpler and the movement more effective. At last we present some simulation results.

A Study on the Improvement of Indoor Environment in the Underground Parking Lot of Apartments in Jeonju City (전주시 공동주택 지하주차장의 실내환경 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The main purpose of the research is to prevent residents who are using underground parking lot from being exposed to pollusion, and to allow them to enjoy clean indoor environment. The study subject for the research are underground parking lots in 20 different apartments, 4 of them were constructed before 2000, 10 were constructed from 2000-2010, and the rest were constructed after 2010. By analyzing the air quality in these underground parking lots, we found out that O3, NO2, CO, PM10, Radon in all parking lots were not excessive compared to the standard limit. TVOC rate was measured with the value in between 312 ~ 2,137㎍/m3, with CO2 value in between 193~1,824 ppm, and HCHO with the value in between 0.01~1.52ppm. The lightning system in underground parking lots in apartments constructed before 2000 were using manual light control system, while automatic light control system was used in all apartments constructed after 2000, and the brightness of parking lots in apartments constructed before 2000 was quite low. The apartments constructed after 2000 are performing cleaning and ventilation due to management agreement, while the apartments constructed before 2000 are not performing regular cleaning and there was no mechanical ventilation system installed. The difference of indoor air quality was significant seasonally, daily, and yearly (year of construction), while illuminance was significantly different yearly.

  • An efficient management system for parking lots and traffic monitoring in a metropolitan city is a very important issue, which is tightly closed to qualify of life. While a residential permit parking program has been contributing to resolve the lack of parking places, there has been no autonomous authentication system due to no apparent entrance gate and smallness of each parking zone. In this paper, we propose and implement an authentication system for residential permit parking lot using wireless sensor networks, which is cost-effective and even no need for additional managing person. Through the experimental evaluation, we analyzed relationship between the life time of sensor nodes and the various values of sleep periods to minimize power consumption of the nodes, and also showed that the difference of luminance sensed by each sensor node is at least 45 or bigger between when the parking place is occupied or not, resultingly it can be used to decide whether a parking place is occupied or not by simply detecting the change of luminance sensed.

A Study on Parking User's Perception for Vitalizing the Shared Parking in Residential Priority Parking Areas (거주자우선주차구역내 공유주차 활성화를 위한 이용자 의식 분석 연구)

  • As the urbanization progresses, the demand for parking in large cities surges compared with that for parking lots. However, the space for securing a parking lot in a large city is physically limited and a budget problem also arises. Therefore, a shared parking system that can utilize existing parking lots is becoming important. This study was carried out to analyze the parking area efficiently for the residents parking area. As a result of the questionnaire survey, it was the most frequent passage to work / commuting and business purposes. The most important factors in parking were 'Parking charge', 'Walking distance to the destination after parking', 'Parking lot searching time' Approximately 46 % of the respondents were female. As a result of the quantitative analysis of the factors influencing the potential use of the intention to use as a dependent variable, it was analyzed that the policy was effective to reduce the parking fee to less than 500 won per 10 minutes and take about 3-6 minutes to search.

  • This paper presents a parking assistant system of multi-view using vehicle data. Proposed system provides the driver with three direction of the scenes surrounding vehicle. Depending on the handle rotation, the proposed system displays views from multiple wide-angle CCD cameras on the laptop screen to reduce blind spots, support smooth parallel or garage parking, and support comfortable and safe driving. The handle angle and gear position are obtained from ABS ECU through OBD-II port. The performance of proposed system is validated by vehicle experiments.
