다중 스래드를 이용한 개인용 VOD 시스템의 설계와 구현 (A Design and Implementation of Personal VOD System using Multi-thread)

  • 비디오 정보를 사용자에게 서비스하기 위해서는 기존의 범용 파일 서버와는 다른 새로운 개념의 서버가 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 실시간 재생 서비스를 제공하는 개인용 VOD(Video-On-Demand) 서버를 설계하고 이를 Windows NT환경에서 구현하였음을 보인다. 제안하는 개인용 VOD 시스템은 VCR(Video Cassette Recorder) 연산의 지연시간, 사용자 접속 승인 지연시간을 줄였으며 빠른 VCR 연산으로 VOD 시스템에 접속하는 사용자에게 좀더 빠른 데이타를 전송할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 사용자들의 접속을 원활히 하기 위하여 대화 형태의 인터페이스를 제공한다.

Frequency Swept Laser at 1300 nm Using a Wavelength Scanning Filter Based on a Rotating Slit Disk

  • A simple and compact frequency swept laser is demonstrated at $1.3{\mu}m$ using a wavelength scanning filter based on a rotating slit disk. The laser is comprised of a pigtailed semiconductor optical amplifier, a circulator, and a wavelength scanning filter in an extended cavity configuration. The wavelength scanning filter is composed of a collimator, a diffraction grating, a rotating slit disk, and a mirror. The instantaneous laser output power is more than 5 mW. The scanning range of the laser is extended to 80 nm at the maximum level, and 55 nm in the full width at half maximum at a scanning rate of 2 kHz.

An Optimal Approach to Rotational Vibration Suppression using Disturbance Observer in Disk Drive Systems

  • This paper investigates the design of disturbance observer for rotational vibration suppression in disk drive systems. The design aims to provide an optimal controller which satisfies both vibration performance and robust stability. It consists of an inversion method, a special filter, and optimization scheme. Firstly a new inversion method is introduced, which provides more accurate inversion compared to conventional zero phase error method. The inversion is to deal with unstable zeros in the plant model. Secondly a special filter for disturbance selection is given, which features adjustable gain and band pass characteristics so that it enables flexible shaping of the loop considering the trade-off between performance and stability margins. And finally the parameters of disturbance observer are optimized in conjunction with external disturbance model. Simulation and experiment on commercial hard disk drives confirm that the design is very effective to such disturbance which is hard to be handled by conventional approach.

  • Recently, CMP (Chemical Mechanical Polishing) is one of very important processing in semiconductor technology because of large integration and application of design role. CMP is a planarization process of wafer surface using the chemical and mechanical reactions. One of the most important components of the CMP system is the polishing pad. During the CMP process, the pad itself becomes smoother and glazing. Therefore it is necessary to have a pad conditioning process to refresh the pad surface, to remove slurry debris and to supply the fresh slurry on the surface. A diamond disk use during the pad conditioning. There are diamonds on the surface of diamond disk to remove slurry debris and to polish pad surface slightly, so density, shape and size of diamond are very important factors. In. this study, we characterized diamond disk with 9 kinds of sample.

  • 플래시 메모리는 전력 소비가 적고 처리속도가 빨라 임베디드 시스템의 저장 매체로서 많은 연구가 이루어져왔다. 특히, 최근에는 플래시메모리로 구성된 반도체 디스크(Solid state disk, SSD)가 하드디스크를 점점 대체하고 있는 추세이다. 현재 SSD는 성능을 높이기 위해서 병렬성을 이용한 다중채널과 다중웨이를 사용하고 있다. 이 구조에서는 연속된 여러 개의 블록들로 구성된 슈퍼블록단위로 플래시 메모리에 기록하게 된다. 본 논문은 병렬처리를 최적화하기 위해 SSD의 버퍼를 비울 때 희생 슈퍼블록을 선정하고 재구성하는 방법을 제안하고 있다. 실험을 통해서 희생 슈퍼블록 선정 방법을 바꾸는 것으로 슈퍼블록단위의 쓰기 횟수를 35% 줄일 수 있고, 슈퍼블록 구성 방법을 달리하여 9%를 추가적으로 더 줄일 수 있었다.

Evolution of the spin of late-type galaxies caused by galaxy-galaxy interactions

  • We use N-body/hydrodynamic simulations to study the evolution of the spin of a Milky Way-like galaxy through interactions. We perform a controlled experiment of co-planner galaxy-galaxy encounters and study the evolution of disk spins of interacting galaxies. Specifically, we consider the cases where the late-type target galaxy encounters an equally massive companion galaxy, which has either a late or an early-type morphology, with the closest approach distance of about 50 kpc, in prograde or retrograde sense. By examining the time change of the circular velocity of the disk material of the target galaxy from each case, we find that the target galaxy tends to lose the spin through prograde collisions but hardly through retrograde collisions, regardless of the companion galaxy type. The decrease of the spin results mainly from the deflection of the orbit of the disk material by tidal disruption. It is found that the spin angular momentum of the disk of the target galaxy decreases by 15 - 20% after a prograde collision. We conclude that the accumulated effects of galaxy-galaxy interactions will play an important role in determining the angular momentum of late-type galaxies at current stage.

  • Disc brake noise is an important customer satisfaction and warranty issue for many manufacturers as indicated by technical literature regarding the subject coming from Motor Company. This research describes results of a study to assess disk brake squeal propensity using finite element methods and optimal technique (Kriging). In this study, finite element analysis has been performed to determine likely modes of brake squeal. This paper deals with friction-induced vibration of disc brake system under contact friction coefficient. A linear, finite element model to represent the floating caliper disc brake system is proposed. The complex eigen-values are used to investigate the dynamic stability and in order to verify simulations which are based on the FEM model. In this paper, Kriging from among the meta-modeling techniques is proposed for an optimal design scheme to reduce the brake squeal noise.

IGRINS observations toward Class I disk sources, IRAS03445+3242 and IRAS0429+2436

  • We present the high-resolution Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph (IGRINS) spectra of two Class I sources, IRAS03445+3242 and IRAS04239+2436. Both sources show the evidence of Keplerian disks; the broadened CO overtone (${\Delta}v=2$) transitions in emission and neutral metal lines (Mg I, Fe I, and Al I) in absorption. The thin Keplerian disk with a rotational velocity of ~100 km s-1 and a gas temperature of 5000 K at the innermost annulus can reproduce the CO overtone transitions including the bandhead emission. The outer dusty disk or the envelope needs to fit the narrow absorption features overlaid on the broad emission lines in the CO overtone transitions.

An Analysis of Replication Enhancement for a High Availability Cluster

  • In this paper, we analyze a technique for building a high-availability (HA) cluster system. We propose what we have termed the 'Selective Replication Manager (SRM),' which improves the throughput performance and reduces the latency of disk devices by means of a Distributed Replicated Block Device (DRBD), which is integrated in the recent Linux Kernel (version 2.6.33 or higher) and that still provides HA and failover capabilities. The proposed technique can be applied to any disk replication and database system with little customization and with a reasonably low performance overhead. We demonstrate that this approach using SRM increases the disk replication speed and reduces latency by 17% and 7%, respectively, as compared to the existing DRBD solution. This approach represents a good effort to increase HA with a minimum amount of risk and cost in terms of commodity hardware.

  • E-EGR Valve 고장의 원인이 되는 내부 퇴적물 축적을 최소화하기 위한 새로운 Valve 형상을 제안하고자 한다. 전산유체 해석을 통하여 다양한 형상에 대하여 유속과 유량을 관찰하였으며, 밸브 상부에 라운드를 추가한 Valve 디자인 변형을 통하여 유량손실 없이 Valve 내의 유속을 약 10% 향상시킬 수 있었다.
