A Reconfigurable Antenna for Alternative Operation between Disk-Loaded Dipole and Folded Dipole (Disk-Loaded 다이폴과 Folded 다이폴로 동작하는 Reconfigurable 안테나)

  • In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable antenna which operates as a disk-loaded dipole antenna and a folded dipole antenna alternatively using RF on/off switches. The antenna can change its effective length to achieve dual-band operation; operates as the folded dipole antenna for stepping up the radiation resistance in low frequency band of $20{\sim}300$ MHz, and as the disk-loaded dipole antenna for an omni-directional radiation pattern (horizontal plane) and a donut-shaped radiation pattern (vertical plane) in high frequency band of $300{\sim}1.3$ GHz. In the low band, the proposed antenna shows higher gain than a conventional dipole antenna with a reduced antenna size. In the high band, the antenna maintains a broad beamwidth of about $80^{\circ}$, thus the antenna can be applicable to antennas for direction finding applications.

  • Recently, many companies are using public cloud services or building their own data center because digital transformation is expanding. The software-defined storage is a key solution for storing data on the cloud platform and its use is expanding worldwide. Software-defined storage has the advantage of being able to virtualize and use all storage resources as a single storage device and supporting flexible scale-out. On the other hand, since the size of an object is variable, an imbalance occurs in the use of the disk and may cause a failure. In this study, a method of redistributing objects by optimizing disk weights based on storage state information was proposed to solve the imbalance problem of disk use, and the experimental results were presented. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the maximum utilization rate of the disk decreased by 10% from 89% to 79%. Failures can be prevented, and more data can be stored by optimizing the use of disk.

  • The driving torque acting on a rotatable disk of watthour meter is proportional to the effective power. The aim of this paper is to show how the driving torque on a disk can be measured by a LVDT transducer. This driving torque is obtained by the theoretical computation. To verify the computated result, the LVDT as torque transducer, was used. A comparison is made between computed and measured torques.

  • Broadcast scheme has been widely researched for efficient data delivery in the mobile environment because the downlink capacity of a mobile client is much greater than the uplink capacity, and the power of a mobile client is limited. In the proposed scheme, the index lets the client know when data items would be broadcasted and enables the client to minimize the tuning time and power consumption. Single channel index schemes are fit to flat broadcast that performs well when all the broadcasted data items are accessed with the same probability whereas the multi-disk broadcast scheme is proper when the data access distribution is skewed. The existing index schemes, however, cannot work on the Multi-disk broadcast scheme because they cannot point the replicating data items in a broadcast cycle. This paper proposes a Multi-disk Exponential Index (MDEI) which is a single channel index scheme fit to Multi-disk broadcast scheme. Because MDEI scheme organizes a separate index for each disk, it functions with multi-disk broadcast, resulting in a greater reduction of average access latency than that of other flat-broadcast index schemes when the data access distribution is skewed. The performance evaluation showed that MDEI has a good performance when data access distribution is skewed. MDEI has short average access latency and not much average tuning time when the data access distribution is skewed.

  • The parking management system can increase driver's convenience with detailed parking information service in the parking lot. At the same time, parking management system consumes non-negligible electrical energy with large amount of sensors, displays and control modules. With the increase in the demand for green and sustainable building design all over the world, it becomes a meaningful issue for parking management system to reduce operating power. This paper presents the preliminary design and estimated results of a parking management system which is optimized to reduce the power consumption mainly on detectors and displays. The system design is based on pre-developed wireless parking detectors, Park Tile and Park Disk. The system has a number of parking space detectors, vehicle count detectors, information displays, guidance terminals and other control units. We have performed system architecture design, communication network design, parking information service scenario planning, battery life regulation and at last operating power estimation. The estimated operating power was 0.93KW per parking-slot, which is 20% of traditional systems. The estimated annual maintenance cost was 18% of traditional systems.

The Fabrication and Characteristics of Small Disk-Type Ultrasonic Motor (소형 원판형 초음파 모터의 시작 및 특성)

  • In this paper, we studied the properties of small-size disk-type ultrasonic motor using travelling wave for the application to the precise control robotic joint motor and fabricated it. The diameter of the ultrasonic motor fabricated was 13mm. Also, the piezoelectric vibrator was constructed by piezoelectric ceramic and elastic material. The piezoelectric ceramic was composed to PZ-PT-PMN which was shown the high electromechanical stability under high vibration level and stainless steel was used as the elastic material in which configuration was disk-type. To conform the capability of application to robotic motor, we measured the change of rotational speed according to applied voltage and applied frequency. As the results, the small-size disk-type ultrasonic motor was able to fabricate, and the revolution speed was 350 [rpm] when input voltage was 55 [Vrms] and applied frequency 160.4 [kHz] under pre-load.

Cost Models of Energy-based Query Optimization for Flash-aware Embedded DBMS (플래시 기반 임베디드 DBMS의 전력기반 질의 최적화를 위한 비용 모델)

  • The DBMS are widely used in embedded systems. The flash memory is used as a storage device of a embedded system. The optimizer of existing database system assumes that the storage device is disk. There is overhead to overwrite on flash memory unlike disk. The block of flash memory should be erased before write. Due to this reason, query optimization model based on disk does not adequate for flash-aware database. Especially embedded system should minimize the consumption of energy, but consumes more energy because of excessive erase operations. This paper proposes new energy based cost model of embedded database and shows the comparison between disk based cost model and energy based cost model.
