The objectives and contents of this program reflected on the experiences of adopted parents and the characteristics of older-age adoptee children with attachment disruption. The program consisted of three components: parent-child relationship building, parenting skills enhancement for adopted parents, and negative emotions mediation for the older-age adoptees. The subjects of program were eight parent-child dyads. Differences between pre- and post-test data showed statistically significant improvements in the quality of parent-child relationships, communication levels with parents, and the parents' autonomic levels. There was also a reduction in the children's social problems. The implications of this study were discussed in terms of improving parent-child attachments in families adopting an older child.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to explore experiences of the development of parent-child relations among Korean college students. Methods: The participants were 18 Korean college students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, and the main question was, "Could you tell me about how your relationship with your parents has developed?". Data were analyzed using Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory methodology. Results: The central phenomena of the experiences of parent-child relations among Korean college students were 'new realizations about parent-child relations' and 'competing against parents'. The major action/interaction strategies were 'having an equal status to one's parents' and 'keeping parents at a distance'. Consequences included 'going beyond the bounds of parental guidance'. Conclusion: These findings indicate that students tried to give back to their parents, and also endeavored to stand apart from their parents in order to obtain independence. Their efforts were influenced by their parents' efforts to be tolerant towards their children. The findings emphasize that Korean college students experienced the process of building new, interdependent relations with their parents.

  • In this paper, we analyze the current phenomenon of child abuse crimes based on the information gathered by the National Child Protection Agency. The purpose of this paper is to diagnose the seriousness of child abuse by biological parents based on the analyzed information and propose measures against it. Comprehensive and integrated measures are needed for child abuse committed by biological parents due to abuse concealment, continuity of damage, and inactive national intervention by considering punishment on attackers through national intervention, fundamental in-depth psychological counseling, therapeutic care, promoting recovery of victims, and ultimately continuous and regular management and monitoring as a long-terms measure. To do so, developing customized and individual educational programs and make them obligations can be first presented to identify child abuse in advance and build up preventive systems based on the principle of family preservation. In addition, problems should be addressed at a fundamental level by performing various and active therapeutic treatments such as psychological treatment, mental treatment, or drug treatment gradually and through phases for biological parents who commit child abuse and contributing to recovering the relationship. Furthermore, proper protection and treatment service should be provided to children victimized by abuse by extending professional children care facilities and adopting the professional family commission system as measures by separating family.
