While silent sinus syndrome (SSS) is familiar to otolaryngologists and ophthalmologists, it is a rare clinical entity in dentistry and is likely to be underdiagnosed due to dentists' lack of awareness of this condition. SSS presents a diagnostic challenge to dentists, as patients typically have no history of trauma or sinusitis. The characteristic feature of SSS is a gradual retreat of the maxillary sinus walls, resulting in enophthalmos and hypoglobus. Multidetector (multislice) computed tomography is the imaging modality of choice for SSS and other paranasal sinus diseases. Cone-beam computed tomography promises to be an alternative low-dose imaging modality. This report describes 3 cases of SSS in adults, who had no identified clinical symptoms except diminutive and opacified maxillary sinuses, as well as the inward bowing of the sinus walls as noted on cone-beam computed tomographic imaging.

Background: Midfacial fractures frequently involve the maxillary sinus, leading to maxillary sinus pathology. We aimed to examine the incidence and contributing factors of maxillary sinus pathology in patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for midfacial fractures. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent ORIF for midfacial fractures at our department over the past 10 years. The incidence of maxillary sinus pathology was identified clinically and/or by computed tomography findings. Factors that significantly influenced the groups with and without maxillary sinus pathology were examined. Results: The incidence of maxillary sinus pathology in patients who underwent ORIF for midfacial fractures was found to be 11.27%, with sinusitis being the most common pathology. Maxillary sinus pathology was significantly associated with the presence of a blowout fracture involving both the medial and the inferior orbital walls. Factors such as sex, age, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, smoking, inflammatory disease, follow-up period, use of absorbable plates, and use of titanium plates did not have a significant impact on the development of maxillary sinus pathology. Conclusion: The incidence of maxillary sinus pathology in patients who underwent ORIF for midfacial fractures was relatively low, and in most cases, it resolved without the need for specific treatment. Consequently, there may not be a significant need for concern regarding postoperative maxillary sinus pathology.
Osteomas are uncommon benign turners, occasionally located in the paranasal sinuses, of which the frontal and ethmoid sinus is the most frequent site. The etiology of the osteoma is still unknown but three possible theories have been proposed; embryological, traumatic and infective. The most common symptoms of osteoma are facial pain and headache, but most of them are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on routine sinus radiography. Recently, the authors experienced two cases of large osteoma of the ethmoid sinus that were removed successfully by external ethmoidectomy.

Paranasal sinusitis is a common disease in the otorhinolaryngology area. It is the change of inflammation at the mucous membrane which surrounds paranasal sinus. Chronic paranasal sinusitis is a chronic inflammation disease with purulent, mucous rhinorrhea, postnasal drip and cough. The attacked period continues above three months and it repeats exacerbation and remission. We diagnosed and treated an outpatient who complains postnasal drip of chronic paranasal drip of chronic paranasal sinusitis based on the Oriental medical theories and had good result.

The maxillary sinus appeared first among the sinuses of the skull at 92 days of prenatal stage. The early formation of frontal sinus was observed at 157 days in the cranial most part of the frontal bone while the early formation of palatine sinus was observed at 170 days. A total of five fontanelles were observed in prenatal skulls of buffalo. The largest and unpaired fontanelle was anterior fontanelle. The mastoid and sphenoidal fontanelle were paired. The ossification of anterior fontanelle was first observed at 164 days. All the fontanelles were ossified completely prenatally.
In Order to Diagnose Maxillary Bone and Maxillary Sinus in the X-Ray Paranasal Sinus Projection test, this Study used Skull Rando Phantom to Change the Posture and X-ray tube Angle to 5° of the Head or 5° of ROC Who worked for more than 10 years. The Significance of the Evaluated score was Verified through SPSS Ver. 3.0, and the Cronbach value was Significantly higher at 0.712. In addition, as a Result of Calculating SNR by Setting the ROI(Receiver Operation Characteristic) of the Maxillary bone and Maxillary sinus images, it was the Highest at 6,449 in the Examination by tilting 5° toward the Head or Leg of the X-ray tube. In the study, it is believed that among the X-Ray simple Paranasal Sinus projection tests, a sharp Image can be Obtained during the Examination by Tilting the X-ray tube 5° toward the Head or Leg.

Aspergillosis of the maxillary sinus was rare disease, but it was increasing tendency with overuse antibiotics, streoid hormones, and anticanncerous agents. The clinical features and X-ray findings are similar to chronic suppurative paranasal sinusitis. Aspergillosis of the maxillary siuses may occur as a chronic diseae in an otherwise healthy person. This infection is usually confined to a single paranasal sinus, the maxillary antrum, though it can involve the orbit and may initiate with findings of proptosis and decreased vision. The disease is characterized by a wide range of initial symptoms, and should be considered as a possible diagnosis in sinusitis refractory to antibiotics and antral lavage. The choice of treatment of this disease is radical surgery and adjunctive systemic antifungal therapy. We experienced a case of right maxillary sinus aspergillosis in a 34 years old male who has dull pain on Rt. zygoma area, and a case of left maxillary sinus aspergillosis in a 30 years old male who had been suffered from nasal stiffness and frontal headache for 3-4 years. We reported two cases with review of literature.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and computed tomographic features of 7 cases of maxillofacial gunshot injuries in the suicidal patients visited the emergency room, Capital Armed Forces General Hospital. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The gunshot wounds were directed from submental area to dorsum of nose(3 cases), frontal area(1 case), orbit(1 case), infraorbital area (1 case), and lateral to nasal wing(l case). The shape of inlet in gunshot wounds were round (diameter: l-3cm) and that of outlet were oval shape(size : inlet
Osteoma is the most common benign tumor originating in the paranasal sinuses and the frontal sinus is the most frequent site of osteoma of paranasal sinuses. Osteoma may occur at any age but the most frequent incidence is the third decade and those are histologically classified as compact, cancellous and mixed type. Recently, the authors have seen a patient with exophthalmos and downward displacement of eyeball due to a huge osteoma in the left frontal sinus which was removed by osteoplastic operation of the frontal sinus and the frontal sinus defect was implanted with adipose tissue from the patient own left abdomen. We report this case with review of the literature.
Objective: To know the recurrence rate of paranasal sinusitis in adults using follow-up investigations. Method: Data was collected from 37 patients who were treated in the Department of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology, Kangnam Oriental Medical Hospital from 2001-10-01 to 2005-05-31 for chronic paranasal sinusitis in adults over 21 years of age. Results & conclusions: 1. The males made up 51.4% and females made up 48.6%. The recurrence rate was 78.4%. 2. By residence, 78.4% lived in apartments; 21.6% lived in houses. 3. Of the main symptoms, nasal obstruction was the most common. 4. The duration of the disease was within 1 month to 40 years; the group with difficulties within the last 5 years made up the largest group. 5. The patients who had chronic nasal family histories made up 40.5%; Patients who didn't have chronic nasal family histories made up 59.5%. 6. In regards to the period of Tx distribution. the group treated within 4 weeks made up the largest group at 54.1%. 7. As far as methods of Tx distribution, the group of patients treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture were larger (62.2%) than the group treated with only herbal medicine (37.8%). 8. The most common nasal condition symptom in patient histories was chronic rhinitis. 9. The most frequent areas affected by paranasal sinusitis on PNS images were the lateral maxillary sinus, the unilateral maxillary sinus and the ethmoidal sinus. 10. The number of patients who drank little was larger (75.7%) than the number of drinking patients(24.3%); There were more non-smoking patients (78.4%) than smoking patients(16.2%). 11. The patients who slept for 6-7 hours made up the larger group (40.5%). 12. The number of patients who preferred warm water was larger making up 54.1 %; the number of patients that preferred cool water made up 21.6%. 13. The patients who had a common cold 3-5 times a year was the largest group at 54.1%.
