  • To explore an effective non-invasion medical imaging diagnostics approach for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), we propose a method based on adopting the multiple technologies with the multi-parametric data fusion, transfer learning, and multi-scale deep feature extraction. Firstly, to make full use of complementary and enhancing the contribution of different modalities viz. multi-parametric MRI images in the lesion diagnosis, we propose a data-level fusion strategy. Secondly, based on the fusion data as the input, the multi-scale residual neural network with SPP (Spatial Pyramid Pooling) is utilized for the discriminative feature representation learning. Thirdly, to mitigate the impact of the lack of training samples, we do the pre-training of the proposed multi-scale residual neural network model on the natural image dataset and the fine-tuning with the chosen multi-parametric MRI images as complementary data. The comparative experiment results on the dataset from the clinical cases show that our proposed approach by employing the multiple strategies achieves the highest accuracy of 0.847±0.023 in the classification problem on the HCC differentiation. In the problem of discriminating the HCC lesion from the non-tumor area, we achieve a good performance with accuracy, sensitivity, specificity and AUC (area under the ROC curve) being 0.981±0.002, 0.981±0.002, 0.991±0.007 and 0.999±0.0008, respectively.

  • Modern society needs constantly the rationality and the efficiency, and this flow of the time has become the paradigm of the whole society. This paradigm has a large influence on the architectural design and industry. Modern technology represented by the development of digital instrument and Information Technology through internet has created and developed two big trend, Parametric Design and BIM(Building information Modeling) in the architectural design and industry. These technologies, though created for different reasons, have a lot of influence on the architectural design and industry for a common purpose such as efficiency and rationality across the boundaries. In this context, this research will be embodied through the example about how parametric design should be made in the beginning of pre-design phase for BIM application. This research aims to consider the design process of Walt Diseny Consert Hall, the work of Frank O. Ghery, a deconstructivism architect, and to embody the shape of National Nederlanden Building in Prague, the Czech Republic, using parametric design tool in pre-design phase. This research later aims to be used as the basic data that can be applied to the entire architectural industry from a planning and a detailed design to a construction for the ultimate BIM application beyond the range of parametric design in pre-design phase. Later, the plan using the parametric design algorithm and BIM application in construction document phase will be conducted.

  • Prior to modern seismic provisions, several bridges were not designed for seismic actions in moderate seismic areas. Precast multi-girder and slab bridges are typical highway overpass structures; they have a significant contribution to national bridge stocks. Since the seismic behavior is questionable, a preliminary parametric study is conducted to determine critical configurations and components. The results indicate that the behavior of the abutments, backfill soil, superstructure and foundation is normally satisfactory; however, the superstructure-abutment joints are critical for both single- and multi-span bridges, while the piers are also critical for longer multi-span configurations. The parametric results provide a solid basis both for detailed seismic assessment and development of design concepts of newly built structures in moderate seismic zones.

  • In this paper, we presents a robust control system design for compensating hysteresis of a piezoelectric actuator-based actuation unit. First, the dynamics between the input voltage and the output displacement of the actuation unit are unravelled via a non-parametric system identification method. From the dynamic characteristics of those experimental transfer functions, a parametric model is then derived, whose dynamics match those of the non-parametric ones under various conditions on input voltages. A robust controller is constructed on the basis of this parametric model in order not only to effectively compensate the hysteresis of the actuation unit but also to guarantee the robust stability. Extensive experiments show that the proposed robust control system successfully mitigate the effect of the hysteresis and improve the tracking capability of the actuation unit.

  • The design problem of partial pole assignment (PPA) in two classes of frequency-domain MIMO models by constant gain feedback is investigated in this paper. Its aim is to design a constant gain feedback which changes only a subset of the open-loop eigenvalues, while the rest of them are kept unchanged in the closed-loop system. A near general parametric expression for the feedback gain matrix in term of a set of design parameter vectors and the set of the closed-loop poles, and a simple parametric approach for solving the proposed problem are presented. The set of poles do not need to be previously prescribed, and can be set undetermined and treated together with the set of parametric vectors as degrees of design freedom provided by the approach. An illustrative example shows that the proposed parametric method is simple and effective.

  • This study investigates the whirling stability of a rotating shaft-disk system under parametric excitation using periodically varying torque. The equations of motion were derived using a lumped-mass model, and the Floquet method was employed to find the effects of torque fluctuation, internal and external damping, and rotational speed on whirling stability. Results indicated that the effect of torque fluctuation was considerable on the instability around resonance, but minimal on supercritical instability. Stability diagrams were sensitive to the parametric excitation frequency; critical torque decreased upon increasing excitation frequency, with faster response convergence or divergence. In addition, internal and external damping had a considerable effect on unstable regions, and reduced the effects of the parametric excitation frequency on critical torque and speed. Results obtained from the Floquet approach were in good agreement with those obtained by numerical integration, except for some cases with Floquet multipliers very close to unity.

  • In this paper, we introduced non-parametric statisticals method that could analyse the field data and proposed application ways such as repair-part demand forcasting, MTBF estimation and trend analysis, identity comparison with two populations using the analytical results. In addition, we applied that to real field data which has been collected for about ten years from K series tracked vehicle. After that, we compared the results with those using traditional parametric statistical method, and verified the usability of them.

  • This paper introduces MPEG SAOC (Spatial Audio Object Coding) that has been standardized in MPEG audio subgroup. MPEG SAOC is a trendy parametric coding technology conceptually similar to PS (Parametric Stereo) and the MPEG Surround. SAOC especially parameterizes and codes the spatial information for the object signals comprising a downmixed audio scene and thus lets users render one's preferred scene in an interactive manner.

  • A new method to obtain explicit re-parameterization that preserves the curve degree and parametric domain is presented in this paper. The re-parameterization brings a curve very close to the arc length parameterization under $L_2$ norm but with less segmentation. The re-parameterization functions we used are $C^1$ continuous piecewise rational linear functions, which provide more flexibility and can be easily identified by solving a quadratic equation. Based on the outstanding performance of Mobius transformation on modifying pieces with monotonic parametric speed, we first create a partition of the original curve, in which the parametric speed of each segment is of monotonic variation. The values of new parameters corresponding to the subdivision points are specified a priori as the ratio of its cumulative arc length and its total arc length. $C^1$ continuity conditions are imposed to each segment, thus, with respect to the new parameters, the objective function is linear and admits a closed-form optimization. Illustrative examples are also given to assess the performance of our new method.

  • Photons generated via spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) have broad spectrums and suffer from dispersive broadening of the temporal wave packets when they are transmitted through dispersive media. In this paper we theoretically and experimentally study the detailed amount of the temporal broadening of the two-photon wave packets generated via both type-I and type-II SPDC with ${\beta}-BaB_2O_4$ of various lengths, by transmitting them through optical fibers. We interpret the results with respect to the spectral properties of the two-photon wave packets. We believe that our results will contribute to implementing protocols involving long-range distributions of photon pairs.
