To evaluate the performance of safety apparatus without the full scale crash test, the computer simulation is inevitable. But, to improve the accuracy of computer simulation, it is important to reasonably determine the input parameters in which the interaction of vehicle-guardrail-soil should be accounted for. This study is focused on how to enhance the reliance of the dynamic performance of guardrail obtained by computer simulation. Analyses were done on the sensitivity of output variables to the change of input parameters by using BARRIER VII of which the usefulness was proved on the barrier-vehicle impact analysis. Through the analyses important input parameters, which give sensitive effects to output of computer simulation, are found out, and methods to determine such parameters are suggested to improve the accuracy of simulation.
In this paper, we propose a method of measuring bone mineral density in a peripheral-type clinical X-ray CT using a phantom, and we propose a method of classifying osteoporosis using bone mineral density and bone structure parameters together. It segments the trabecular bone region and cortical bone region for the six sections of the phantom and calculates the average HU value of the segmented regions. By using these values, it derives an expression converting HU value to bone mineral density. It segments trabecular bone of 1 cm region in the end part of distal radius and extracts the bone mineral density and structural parameters for the trabecular bone region. We extracted bone mineral density and structural parameters for the 18 subjects each of normal and osteoporotic group. We carried out classification experiments using three classification methods; SAD, SVM, ANN. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, likelihood ratio of the classification was improved in the order of ANN, SVM and SAD. Also, The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, likelihood ratio of the classification was improved when we use the bone mineral density and structural parameters together.

A smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is applied for simulating two-dimensional free-surface problems. The SPH method based on the Lagrangian formulation provides realistic flow motions with violent surface deformation, fragmentation and reunification. In this study, the effect of computational parameters in SPH simulation is explored through two-dimensional dam-breaking and sloshing problem. The parameters to be considered are the speed of sound, the frequency of density re-initialization, the number of particle and smoothing length. Through a series of numerical test. detailed information was obtained about how SPH solution can be more stabilized and improved by adjusting computational parameters. Finally, some numerical simulations for various fluid flow problem were carried out based on the parameters chosen through the sensitivity study.

In many optimal methods for the structural design, the structural analysis is performed with the given design parameters. Then the design sensitivity is calculated based on its structural anaysis results. There-after, the design parameters are changed iteratively. But genetic algorithm is a optimal searching technique which is not depend on design sensitivity. This method uses for many design para- meter groups which are generated by a designer. The generated design parameter groups are become initial population, and then the fitness of the all design parameters are calculated. According to the fitness of each parameter, the design parameters are optimized through the calculation of reproduction process, degradation and interchange, and mutation. Those are the basic operation of the genetic algorithm. The changing process of population is called a generation. The basic calculation process of genetic algorithm is repeatly accepted to every generation. Then the fitness value of the element of a generation becomes maximum. Therefore, the design parameters converge to the optimal. In this study, the optimal design pro- cess of a machine tool structure for static loading is presented to determine the optimal base supporting points and structure thickness using a genetic algorithm.
This paper deals with the basic concepts of sensitivity analysis in a time domain for the transient response of a lumped mass system. Sensitivity analysis methods in thme domain for determining the effects of parameter changes on the response of a dynamic system by external excitation are presented. The parametric sensitivity of a lumped mass system in time domain can be investigated using different types of sensitivity functions, including first order standard and percentage sensitivity functions. These sensitivity functions are determined as a function of partial derivatives of system variables taken with respect to system parameters. In addition, we compared the results of the analytical method by direct method and those of numerical methods.

In this paper, the Resistive Companion Form(RCF) analysis method is applied to analyze small signal stability of power systems including thyristor controlled FACTS equipments such as SVC. The eigenvalue sensitivity analysis algorithm in discrete systems based on the RCF analysis method is presented and applied to the power system including SVC. As a result of simulation, the RCF analysis method is proved very effective to precisely calculate the variations of eigenvalues or newly generated unstable oscillation modes after periodic switching operations of SVC. Also the eigenvalue sensitivity analysis method based on the RCF analysis method enabled to precisely calculate eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients of controller parameters about the dominant oscillation mode after periodic switching operations in discrete systems. These simulation results are different from those of the conventional continuous system analysis method such as the state space equation and proved that the RCF analysis method is very effective to analyze the discrete power systems including periodically operated switching equipments such as SVC.

This paper presents a method to evaluate generation rescheduling priority using transient energy margin sensitivity for power system operation. A change in any of the functional parameters obviously causes a change in the energy margin. Especially the energy margin sensitivity is evaluated for change with respect to generation. For a given contingency, the energy margin is computed and the respective sensitivities are also computed. It is possible to rank the sensitivities and thereby determine the generators which will affect the energy margin most and hence affect the stability (instability) of the system. The sign of the sensitivity indicates the direction of change in generation for a given change in energy margin.

In this paper, the eigenvalue sensitivity of vehicle powertrain was investigated by analytic method. The powertrain system was considered as a rigid body with multiple engine mounts, and the engine mounts were supposed as three linear springs in three orthogonal directions. The design parameters for the sensitivity analysis were engine mount properties (positions, stiffness, and orientations) and powertrain properties (mass, second moment of inertia, and center of gravity). Firstly, an effective form of eigenvalue problem for the powertrain system was introduced. Then, the analytic sensitivity of eigenvalue was derived using the equation. Lastly, the derived sensitivity equation was applied to a real powertrain system to provide its correctness and applicability.

Spinning mechanism is generally used in coasting process on grass plates. Rebounding PR(Photo Resist) which leads to occur inferiority of coating process is caused by vibrational energy of whole coating system. In this study, the sensitivity analysis is performed to analyze and reduce vibrational terms in the spin coating system. The sensitivity analysis is bared on the numerical expression of this system. By the bond graph method. power flow of each system is represented by some basic bond graph elements. Any energy domain system is modeled using the unified elements. The modelled spin coater system is verified with power spectrum data measured by FFT analyzer. As the results of verifying model parameters and sensitivity analysis, principal factors causing vibration phenomenon are mentioned. A study on vibration method in the spin coating system is discussed.

The inverse dynamic equations for 5 link robot including a closed chain have been derived. The closed chain is virtually cut open, and the kinematics and dynamics of the virtual open chain robot are analyzed. The constraints are applied to the virtually cut joints by the Jacobian matrix which represents the configuration of the closed chain. The topology of tree structrued open chain robot is described by a FATHER array. The FATHER array of a link indicates the link tha tis connected in the direction of base link. Based on the inverse dynamic equations, the torque sensitivity models of the 5 link robot have been developed. The sensitivity models characterize the sensitivity of the driving torque with respect to the link parameters. All the procedures are illustrated through the 2 link robot.
