Time-Space-Time(T-S-T) switching network is modeled as a graceful degrading system. Call blocking probability is defined as a measure of performance. Several performance related measures are suggested under the presence of failure. An optimization model is proposed, which determines optimal values of system parameters of the switching network.

In this study, the optimization of extraction parameters (solvent, temperature, time, solvent concentration) for the maximization of polyphenol extraction was performed to produce value-added food and cosmetic additives using a byproduct of coffee extraction process (coffee residue). All of the extraction parameters evaluated in this experiment had significant effects on polyphenol extraction and the results showed the effect of NaOH concentration on the polyphenol production was most significant among tested parameters. Especially, hot water extraction using acid or base was effective rather than hot-water extraction and the addition of 0.1 mol of NaOH increased 1.5 times extraction concentration compared with hot-water extraction using distilled water. It was found that hot-water extraction with NaOH was more effective than hot-water extraction, and 36.5 mg GAE/g DM was obtained under optimum condition of $100^{\circ}C$, 2 mol of NaOH and 30 min. This result was 2.9 times higher than that of 12.5 mg GAE/g DM obtained from the hot-water extraction before optimization. Thus, coffee residue could be used for food and cosmetic industry as a high-value additive such as antioxidant.

This paper presents a pattern recognition analysis of two spirals problem and optimization of Cascade Correlation learning algorithm using in combination with a non-monotone function as CosExp(cosine-modulated symmetric exponential function) and a monotone function as sigmoid function. In addition, the algorithm's optimization is attempted. By using genetic algorithms the optimization of the algorithm will attempt. In the first experiment, by using CosExp activation function for candidate neurons of the learning algorithm is analyzed the recognized pattern in input space of the two spirals problem. In the second experiment, CosExp function for output neurons is used. In the third experiment, the sigmoid activation functions with various parameters for candidate neurons in 8 pools and CosExp function for output neurons are used. In the fourth experiment, the parameters are composed of 8 pools and displacement of the sigmoid function to determine the value of the three parameters is obtained using genetic algorithms. The parameter values applied to the sigmoid activation functions for candidate neurons are used. To evaluate the performance of these algorithms, each step of the training input pattern classification shows the shape of the two spirals. In the optimizing process, the number of hidden neurons was reduced from 28 to15, and finally the learning algorithm with 12 hidden neurons was optimized.
In this study, natural surfactants were extracted from Medicago sativa L. The O/W emulsification processes with the extracted natural surfactants were optimized using central composite design model-response surface methodology (CCD-RSM) and a 95% confidence interval was used to confirm the reasonableness of the optimization. Herein, independent parameters were the ratio of saponins to total surfactant (P), amount of surfactant (W), and emulsification speed (R), whereas the reaction parameters were the emulsion stability index (ESI), mean droplet size (MDS), and viscosity (V). Using the multiple reaction, the optimal conditions for the ratio of saponins to total surfactant, amount of surfactant, and emulsification speed for O/W emulsification were 49.5%, 9.1 wt%, and 6559.5 rpm, respectively. Under these optimal conditions, the expected values of ESI, MDS, and V as the reaction parameters were 89.9%, 1058.4 nm, and 1522.5 cP, respectively. The values of ESI, MDS, and V from these expected values were 88.7%, 1026.4 nm, and 1486.5 cP, respectively, and the average experimental error for validating the accuracy was about 2.3 (± 0.4)%. Therefore, it was possible to design an optimization process for evaluating the O/W emulsion process with Medicago sativa L. using CCD-RSM.

An induction motor is one of the most popular electrical apparatuses owing to its simple structure and robust construction. Parameter identification of the induction motor has long been researched either for a vector control technique or fault detection. Since vector control is a well-established technique for induction motor control, this paper concentrates on successive identification of physical parameters with on-load data for the purpose of condition monitoring and/or fault detection. For extracting six physical parameters from the on-load data in the framework of the induction motor state equation, unmeasured initial state values and profiles of load torque have to be estimated as well. However, the analytic optimization methods in general fail to estimate these auxiliary but significant parameters owing to the difficulty of obtaining their gradient information. In this paper, the univariate dynamic encoding algorithm for searches (uDEAS) newly developed is applied to the identification of whole unknown parameters in the mathematical equations of an induction motor with normal operating data. Profiles of identified parameters appear to be reasonable and therefore the proposed approach is available for fault diagnosis of induction motors by monitoring physical parameters.

Surge pressure is created by rapid change of flow rate due to operation of hydraulic component or accident of pipeline. Proper control of surge pressure in distribution system is important because it can damage pipeline and may have the potential to degrade water quality by pipe leakage due to surge pressure. Surge relief valve(SRV) is one of the most widely used devices and it is important to determine proper parameters for SRV's installation and operation. In this research, determining optimum parameters affecting performance of the SRV were investigated. We proposed the methodology for finding combination of parameters for best performance of the SRV. Therefore, the objective function for evaluate fitness of candidate parameters and surge pressure simulation software was developed to validate proposed parameters for SRV. The developed software was integrated into genetic algorithm(GA) to find best combination of parameters.
Nonlinear time-domain system identification (SI) algorithm is proposed to assess damage in a shear building by synchronously estimating time-varying stiffness and damping parameters using measured acceleration data. Mass properties have been assumed as the a priori known information. Viscous damping was utilized for the current research. To chase possible nonlinear dynamic behavior under severe vibration, an incremental governing equation of vibrational motion has been utilized. Stiffness and damping parameters are estimated at each time step by minimizing the response error between measured and computed acceleration increments at the measured degrees-of-freedom. To solve a nonlinear constrained optimization problem for optimal structural parameters, sensitivities of acceleration increment were formulated with respect to stiffness and damping parameters, respectively. Incremental state vectors of vibrational motion were computed numerically by Newmark-${\beta}$ method. No model is pre-defined in the proposed algorithm for recovering the nonlinear response. A time-window scheme together with Monte Carlo iterations was utilized to estimate parameters with noise polluted sparse measured acceleration. A moving average scheme was applied to estimate the time-varying trend of structural parameters in all the examples. To examine the proposed SI algorithm, simulation studies were carried out intensively with sample shear buildings under earthquake excitations. In addition, the algorithm was applied to assess damage with laboratory test data obtained from free vibration on a three-story shear building model.
Identity recognition in real environment with a reliable mode is a key issue in human computer interaction (HCI). In this paper, we present a robust person identification system considering score-based optimal reliability measure of audio-visual modalities. We propose an extension of the modified reliability function by introducing optimizing parameters for both of audio and visual modalities. For degradation of visual signals, we have applied JPEG compression to test images. In addition, for creating mismatch in between enrollment and test session, acoustic Babble noises and artificial illumination have been added to test audio and visual signals, respectively. Local PCA has been used on both modalities to reduce the dimension of feature vector. We have applied a swarm intelligence algorithm, i.e., particle swarm optimization for optimizing the modified convection function's optimizing parameters. The overall person identification experiments are performed using VidTimit DB. Experimental results show that our proposed optimal reliability measures have effectively enhanced the identification accuracy of 7.73% and 8.18% at different illumination direction to visual signal and consequent Babble noises to audio signal, respectively, in comparison with the best classifier system in the fusion system and maintained the modality reliability statistics in terms of its performance; it thus verified the consistency of the proposed extension.
