  • A modified mechanical model of pre-pressed spring self-centering energy dissipation (PS-SCED) brace is proposed, and the hysteresis band is distinguished by the indication of relevant state variables. The MDOF frame system equipped with the braces is formulated in an incremental form of linear acceleration method. A multi-objective genetic algorithm (GA) based brace parameter optimization method is developed to obtain an optimal solution from the primary design scheme. Parameter sensitivities derived by the direct differentiation method are used to modify the change rate of parameters in the GA operator. A case study is conducted on a steel braced frame to illustrate the effect of brace parameters on node displacements, and validate the feasibility of the modified mechanical model. The optimization results and computational process information are compared among three cases of different strategies of parameter change as well. The accuracy is also verified by the calculation results of finite element model. This work can help the applications of PS-SCED brace optimization related to parameter sensitivity, and fulfill the systematic design procedure of PS-SCED brace-structure system with completed and prospective consequences.

  • With the development of the auto industry, the automobile manufacturers demand to shorten development period and reduce the cost. Compared with the traditional method, applying the virtual prototype is more economical. This paper presents a method for parameters sensitivity analysis and optimizing the performance of vehicle noise and vibration. The existing design processes were repeatedly analyzed with a focus on vehicle performance to decide the design parameters of dimension, thickness, mounting type of body and chassis systems in the vehicle development period. This paper describes the prediction technique of vehicle performance using L18 orthogonal array layout, quality deviation analysis and parameter sensitivity analysis for robust design. This paper analyzed the performance correlation equation through the frequency and sensitivity database according to a design factor change. The new concept is that the performance prediction is possible without repeated activities of test and analysis. This paper described the parameter analysis applications such as bush dynamic stiffness and bush void direction of rear suspension. Design engineer could efficiently decide the design variable using parameter analysis database in early design stage. These improvements can reduce man hour and test development period as well as to achieve stable NVH performance.

  • In this study, quantitative sensitivity analysis on rockfill material influencing the dam crest displacement of Concrete-Faced Rockfill Dam(CFRD) subjected to earthquake loading was carried out. The purpose of this study is to indicate the most important input parameter and to show the quantitative variation of displacement at the crest of CFR type dam during earthquake loading with this input parameter. From the sensitivity analysis, it was found that the crest displacement of CFR type dam subjected to dynamic loading was absolutely affected by the shear modulus of rockfill material and the effect of friction angle of it was negligible. This relative difference of sensitivity was more outstanding in case of crest settlement than in case of crest horizontal displacement. Also, it was found that the extent of effect of shear modulus on the displacement at the crest of CFRD due to dynamic loading decreased as maximum amplitude of input acceleration increased.

  • It is common to predict structural dynamic design parameters due to the change of design parameter, but to predict the amount of changed design parameter where the mass and stiffness are being modified are rarely found in previous literature. In this study, the changed design parameter in a proportional damping system is predicted by using sensitivity coefficients and an iterative method. The sensitivity coefficients are determined from the changes in eigenvectors; these changes are due to modification. This method is applied to a three-story shear structure. To validate the prediction of the changed design parameter, the results are compared to the reanalysis results; both results are in good agreement.

  • In this study, a series of numerical simulation of dam break flow was conducted using EFDC model, and input conditions including cell size, time step, and turbulent eddy viscosity were considered to analyze parameter sensitivity. In case of coarse mesh layout, the propagated length of the shock wave front was ${\Delta}_x$ longer than that of other mesh layouts, and the velocity results showed jagged edge, which can be cured by applying fine grid mesh. Turbulent eddy viscosity influenced magnitude of the maximum velocity passing through gate up to 20% and the cell Peclet number less than 2.0 ensured no numerical oscillations.

  • This study predicts the modified structure of eigenvectors and eigenvalues due to the changes in the mass and the stiffness of the structure. The sensitivity method of natural frequency using partial differential are derived with respect to the physical parameter to calculate the structure modification. The method are applied to the 3 degree of freedom???slumped mass model by modeling the mass and stiffness, and then applies the method to a real crankshaft system. The position, direction of parameter change and modified value were predicted for modification. Finally the predicted value is used to investigate the magnitude of vibration and we found that the effect of modification results to reduce the level of magnitude vibration is satisfactory.

  • The purpose of the present study is to analyze pollutant runoff characteristics from non-point sources in Joman River basin. The present study contains analyzed results of rainfall and SS, BOD, COD, TN, TP runoff from Joman River basin. This study contains a sensitivity analysis of parameters that affect the simulation results of rainfall and pollutants runoff. Result of the sensitivity analysis shows that proportion of watershed and impervious areas is the most sensitive to peak discharge and total flowrate for rainfall runoff and that WASHPO is the most sensitive parameter for pollutants runoff. For parameter estimation and verification, flowrate and water quality is measured at the Kangdong Bridge in Haeban stream. A single rainfall event is use to perform parameter estimation and verification. Results of the present study show that total pollutant loads of Joman River basin is 11,600 ton of SS, 452 ton of BOD, 1,084 ton of COD, 515 ton of TN, and 49 ton of TP, respectively. In addition, it is found that contribution ratio of non point source and total source is 89% of SS, 63% of BOD, 61% of COD, 21% of TN, and 32% of TP, respectively.

  • Currently, the increased run-off and the shortened arrival time are one of the causes of the city environmental disasters in urbanization. Therefore, it is necessary to properly design the hydrologic structures, but it is very difficult to forecast the values necessary to design from the planning stage. Moreover, as the parameter is changed due to the urban development, it is difficult not only to analyze the run-off influences but also to find the related studies and literatures. The purpose of this study is to utilize the results as the important basic data of the hydrologic structures, its proper design and run-off influences through the sensibility analysis of the model parameter variables. In this study, the absolute and relative sensibility analysis method were used to find out the correlation through the sensibility analysis of the topology and hydrology parameters. Especially, in this study, the changes in the run-off amount and volume were calculated according to increase/decrease in CN, the coefficient of discharge, and the empirical formula is prepared and proposed through the regressive analysis among the parameters. In the meantime, the parameter sensibility analysis was performed through the simulation HEC-HMS that is used and available in Korea. From the results of this study, it was found that the run-off amount is increased about by 10% when the CN value is increased by 5% before and after the development through the HEC-HMS simulation and data analysis. As long as there will be additional data collection analysis and result verification, and continuous further studies to find out the parameters proper to the domestic circumstances, it is expected to considerably contribute to the proper design of the hydrologic structures with respect to the ungauged basin.

  • In a flexible airvehicle, an assessment of the structural coupling levels through analysis and experiments provides structural data for the design of notch filters which are generally utilized in the flight control system to attenuate the flexible response pickup. This is necessitated as during flight, closed loop control actuation driven with flexible response inputs could lead to stability and performance related problems. In the present work, critical parameters influencing servoelastic response have been identified. A sensitivity study has been carried out to assess the extent of influence of each parameter. A multi-parameter tuning approach has been implemented to achieve an enhanced analytical model for improved predictions of aircraft servoelastic response. To illustrate the model updation approach, initial and improved test analysis correlation of lateral servoelastic responses for a generic flexible airvehicle are presented.
