An Electrical Characteristics on the Pentacene-Based Organic Thin-Film Transistors using PVA Alignment Layer (PVA 배열층을 이용한 펜타신 유기 박막 트랜지스터의 전기적 특성)

  • The pentacene-based organic thin film transistors(OTFTs) using polyvinylalcohol(PVA) alignment layer were fabricated on the $SiO_2$ evaporated to n-type (111) Si substrates. The pentacene film was deposited by thermally evaporated at $10^{-7}$ torr. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscope(AFM) measurement showed pentacene film which deposited on rubbed PVA layers were partially crystallized at (001) plane. The pentacene OTFTs with PVA layers rubbed perpendicular to the direction of current flow was shown to align better orientation than parallel rubbed case and thus to enhance the mobility and saturation current by a factor of 2.3 respectively. We obtained mobility by 0.026 $cm^2$/Vs and on-off current ratio by ${\sim}10^8$.

  • After steam turbines in power plant drives generator and maintains it at rated speed using high temperature and high pressure steam energy, they regulate the output of generator when synchronized in parallel with the power system. By the way, as the steam flow into turbine can not be reduced fast even though the electrical load is lost, the turbine gets into dangerous situation due to the increase of its speed. At this time, the duty of the turbine governor is "how to limit the speed within its overspeed trip setpoint and escape from danger." For the purpose of it, there are various ways known. Some overspeed protection methods for steam turbines now being operating in korea are introduced in this paper.

  • This paper is a study on the nonlinear behavior of polyhedron curved space roof as building structures of quasicrystal system. The quasicrystal is made up of two kinds of parallel hexahedrons, and all the line elements of the parallelepiped have the same length. The quasicrystal design grid dome has a pentagonal symmetry and all members have the same length. This paper described form of design gird dome, and showed the analysis conditions. Also, The displacement-load curve is shown through the analysis and we grasped the flow of the load and forces through analysis of design grid dome applied quasicrystal system.

CFD Study on Particle Effect and Erosion in the Axial Compressor Blades and Shroud of Turbomachinery

  • Fly ash enters axial compressor when a turbomachinery is operated in an adverse environment. We have numerically investigated erosion of the blade and shroud in the turbulent compressor passage flow under the influence of gas-particle two-phase interaction. There have appeared quasi-three dimensional calculations on this subject but not the complete three-dimensional gas-particle interaction as done in the present work. Lagrangian particle tracing technique is used on the base of parallel processing for efficient calculation. Accuracy of the present code is tested using the benchmark lPL nozzle. In the DFVLR compressor blades, we have shown that a large number of particles passing through the tip clearance make impact on the blade tip and on the shroud. Higher degree of erosion is resulted by the heavier particles due to the centrifugal force.

Numerical Investigation of the Stability of Flows induced by a Surface Acoustic Wave along a Slab

  • The stability of flows induced by a surface acoustic wave (SAW) propagating along the deformable walls in a confined parallel-plane microchannel or slab in the laminar flow regime is investigated. The governing equation which was derived by considering the nonlinear coupling between the deformable or waving interface and viscous fluids is linearized and then the problem is solved by a verified code based on the spectral method together with the associated interface and boundary conditions. The value of the critical Reynolds number was found to be near 1439 which is much smaller than the rigid-wall case: 5772 for conventional pressure-driven flows.

  • Decision process for length dimension in the mechanical system design process has been studied with a washing machine transmission as a model. The results are, (i) the length dimensions of the non-shaft elements are independent of other elements, (ii) the length dimensions of the shaft elements are dependent on the dimensions of the non-shaft elements located inside and outside of that elements, (iii) the length dimensions of the inner shaft elements are dependent on those of the outer shaft elements located parallel, (iv) the length dimensions of the shaft elements located serial are independent of each other.

  • In this study, the wet surface heat transfer coefficients and friction factors of PF heat exchangers are presented. Two sample with different fin pitch(1.25mm, 1.5mm) were tested. Tests were conducted in a open loop wind tunnel. The wet surface heat transfer coefficient was reduced following the procedure given in ARI 410-81. Results showed that the heat transfer coefficients of the heat exchanger with 1.5mm fin pitch were approximately the same as those with 1.25mm fin pitch, except at low reynolds number(Re<100), where the heat transfer coefficients of 1.5mm fin pitch were slighly higher than those with 1.25mm fin pitch. The friction factors of the 1.25mm fin pitch, however was 120 % to 160 % higher than those of the 1.5mm fin pitch. The wet surface heat transfer coefficients were lower than those of the dry surface. The wet surface friction factors, however, were higher than those of the dry surface.

  • An unstructured implicit Euler solver is parallelized on a Cray T3E. Spatial discretization is accomplished by a cell-centered finite volume formulation using an upwind flux differencing. Time is advanced by the Gauss-Seidel implicit scheme. Domain decomposition is accomplished by using the k-way n-partitioning method developed by Karypis. In order to analyze the parallel performance of the solver, flows over a 2-D NACA 0012 airfoil and 3-D F-5 wing were investigated.

  • The choking of dual subsonic streams flowing through a convergent duct in contact has been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The experiment was conducted by using blow-down wind tunnel. The condition, when the dual stream flow chocking (compound choking) occurs at the nozzle exit, was explained by one-dimensional analysis of compound sound wave propagation. The experimental results for the condition of compound choking were compared with the prediction from theoretical analysis, and the schlieren optical method using the spark light source has been used to visualize the flowfield.
