  • In this paper we propose a method for performance enhancement of speech recognizer under noisy conditions. The parallel combination model which is presented at the PMC method using multiple Gaussian-distributed mixtures have been adapted to the variation of each mixture. The CDHMM(continuous observation density HMM) which has multiple Gaussian distributed mixtures are combined by the proposed PMC method. Also, the EM(expectation maximization) algorithm is used for adapting the model mean parameter in order to reduce the variation of the mixture density. The result of simulation, the proposed PMC adaptation method show better performance than the conventional PMC method.

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the repair performance of sprayed engineered cementitious composites(ECC) serving as a repair material. Sprayable ECC, which exhibit tensile strain-hardening behavior in the hardened state and maintain sprayable properties in the fresh state, have been developed by using a parallel control of micromechanical design and rheological process design. The effectiveness of sprayable ECC in providing durable repaired structures was assessed by spraying the ECC and testing them for the assessment. The experimental results revealed that, when sprayed ECC were used as a repair material, both load carrying capacity and ductility represented by the deformation capacity at peak load of the repaired flexural beams were obviously increased compared to those of commercial prepackaged mortar(PM) repaired beams. The significant enhancement in the energy absorption capacity and tight crack width control of the ECC repair system treated with wet-mix spraying process suggests that sprayed ECC can be effective in extending the service life of rehabilitated infrastructures.

  • This paper proposes a multimodal generalized Gaussian distribution (MGGD) to effectively model the varying statistical properties of the extrinsic information. A subsidiary maximum likelihood decoding (MLD) algorithm is subsequently developed to dynamically select the most suitable MGGD parameters to be used in the component maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoders at each decoding iteration to derive the more reliable metrics performance enhancement. Simulation results show that, for a wide range of block lengths, the proposed approach can enhance the overall turbo decoding performance for both parallel and serially concatenated codes in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), Rician, and Rayleigh fading channels.

  • Visiting k-combinations of a set S which has n elements is the general representation of many engineering problems. The performance of algorithms visiting all combinations, however, dramatically degrades with growing cases and the time to evaluate each combination. This paper presents the method to enhance the performance of these algorithms by a CUDA method. The experimental results show that the parallel algorithm running on GPU is approximately 900 times faster than the serial algorithm running on CPU.

  • For science applications that requires rapid transfer and sharing of large volume data, many efforts to improve data transfer performance have been made based on concurrency, parallelism and pipelining in data transfer applications such as Globus/GridFTP. In this paper, as a similar trial, experiments have been conducted for the expected transfer throughput enhancement by the increased number of network interface and parallelism in the Mptcp emulation environment and the result is presented.

  • In this paper, we propose a MWF-PMC noise processing method which enhances the input speech by using Mel-warped Wiener Filtering (MWF) at pre-processing stage and compensates the recognition model by using PMC (Parallel Model Combination) at post-processing stage for speech recognition in noisy environments. The PMC uses the residual noise extracted from the silence region of enhanced speech at pre-processing stage to compensate the clean speech model and thus this method is considered to improve the performance of speech recognition in noisy environments. For recognition experiments we dew.-sampled KLE PBW (Phoneme Balanced Words) 452 word speech data to 8kHz and made 5 different SNR levels of noisy speech, i.e., 0dB. 5dB, 10dB, 15dB and 20dB, by adding Subway, Car and Exhibition noise to clean speech. From the recognition results, we could confirm the effectiveness of the proposed MWF-PMC method by obtaining the improved recognition performances over all compared with the existing combined methods.

  • The enhancement technique of noise signal using mixture HFM (Midden Filter Model) are proposed. Given the parameters of the clean signal and noise, noisy signal is modeled by a linear state-space model with Markov switching parameters. Estimation of state vector is required for estimating original signal. The estimation procedure is based on mixture interacting multiple model (MIMM) and the estimator of speech is given by the weighted sum of parallel Kalman filters operating interactively. Simulation results showed that the proposed method offers performance gains relative to the previous results with slightly increased complexity.

  • The performance requirements on the safety-based functionality of railway signal systems have been reinforced and the effort for enhancement of the existing system or development of the new system is being accordingly made. In particular, various technical researches on replacement or improvement of the existing ATS(Automatic Train Stop) signaling system are now in progress for better operational efficiency. In this study, the complementary points for improvement or replacement of the currently used system(i.e., ATS) will be derived in terms of operating efficiency in an integrated operating environment with the newly introduced system(e.g., ATC: Automatic Train Control). This study can contribute to derive the need for improvement of the signaling system by checking the interface problems and comparing between different systems through the analysis of real operation cases in the field. Eventually, this analysis can be applied to prevent and estimate the collision accidents can be caused by the failure of the signaling system in advance. In addition, the results can be used to provide a future direction to secure the reliability in the parallel operation by integration based on different railway signaling systems.

  • The linearization technique for low noise amplifier (LNA) has been implemented in standard $0.18-{\mu}m$ BiCMOS process. The MOS-BJT derivative superposition (MBDS) technique exploits a parallel LC tank in the emitter of bipolar transistor to reduce the second-order non-linear coefficient ($g_{m2}$) which limits the enhancement of linearity performance. Two feedback capacitances are used in parallel with the base-collector and gate-drain capacitances to adjust the phase of third-order non-linear coefficients of bipolar and MOS transistors to improve the linearity characteristics. The MBDS technique is also employed cascode configuration to further reduce the second-order nonlinear coefficient. The proposed LNA exhibits gain of 9.3 dB and noise figure (NF) of 2.3 dB at 2 GHz. The excellent IIP3 of 20 dBm and low-power power consumption of 5.14 mW at the power supply of 1 V are achieved. The input return loss ($S_{11}$) and output return loss ($S_{22}$) are kept below - 10 dB and -15 dB, respectively. The reverse isolation ($S_{12}$) is better than -50 dB.

  • For a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, it is known that a Vector Delay Locked Loop (DLL) in which the code signals of each satellite are tracked in parallel by using navigation results shows better performance in the aspect of the tracking accuracy and the robustness than that of a Scalar DLL. However, the quantitative analysis and the logical grounds for that performance enhancement of the Vector DLL are not sufficient. This paper, therefore, proposes the structure of the GPS receiver with the Vector DLL and analyzes the performance of it. The tracking and the positioning accuracy of the Vector DLL are theoretically analyzed and confirmed by simulation results. From the simulation results, it can be seen that the tracking and positioning accuracy has been improved about 30% in case that the receiver is static and the positioning is conducted for every Pre-detection Integration Time (PIT) while C/N0 is 45 dB-Hz.
