  • In this paper, we applied the high-performance PGAP(Parallel Genetic Algorithm Processor) to recognizing rotated pattern. In order to perform this research efficiently, we used Multi-PGAP system consisted of four PGAP. In addition, we used mental rotation based on the rotated pattern recognition mechanism of human to reduce the number of operation. Also, we experimented with distinguishing specific pattern from similar coin patterns and determine rotated angle between patterns. The result showed that the development of future artificial recognition system is feasible by employing high performance PGAPS.

  • A double parallel manipulator has only two or three links in each parallel mechanism. this reduces link interferences so that we expect a large workspace. To prove this property, this paper analyzes the workspace of a double parallel manipulator and compare it with that of a Stewart Platform. the analysis is separately conducted in a positional and an orientational division. For each, we obtain the workspace accrding to the ranges of lengths of links and show the volume in a cartesian coordinate or the angular ranges in yaw and pitch motions.

  • This paper deals with dynamics and control of a PRP6-DOF parallel manipulator. Dynamic modeling includes the effect of inertia of all links in the mechanism to increase modeling accuracy. Kinematic analysis about forward and inverse kinematics is also explained. Using Lagrange-D' Alambert method we get equations of motions in a link space which fully represent 6DOF motions of the manipulator.

  • Pressure ripples, which are inevitably generated by a fluctuation of flow rate caused by a pump mechanism, include noises and vibrations in hydraulic pipeline. These noises and vibration deteriorate the stability and accuracy of hydraulic systems. The accumulator and hydraulic attenuator are normally used to reduce the pressure ripples. In this study, a parallel line is introduced to the hydraulic pipeline for the hydraulic system with a bent-axis piston pump as a method to reduce the pressure ripples. The dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic pipeline with a parallel line are analyzed by a transfer matrix in the frequency domain. The usefulness of the hydraulic pipeline with a parallel line was ascertained by experiment and simulation. The results from the experiment and simulation show that the hydraulic pipeline with a parallel line were effective in reducing the pressure ripples.

  • In this paper, we develop a six-axes machining center tool(MCT) and CAD/CAM system. The MCT consists of two mechanical parts, i.e., a X-Y-Z Cartesian coordinate typed MCT and a parallel-typed tilting table. Kinematics and singularity are accomplished to design the parallel-typed tilting table, and CAD/CAM system is developed for the six-axes MCT, which requires the commands of position as well as orientation for machining of complex shape. The CAD/CAM system has a tool path generator, a NC code generator and a graphic simulator. This paper designs the parallel-typed tilting table to meet the desired specification and presents the results of tool path, NC code and graphic simulation.

  • Parallel manipulators have been used to a variety of applications, including the motion simulators and mechanism for precise machining. A Stewart-Gough type parallel manipulator is composed of six linear joints which have wider contact areas than revolute ones, so linear joints are more affected by frictional force. First, the reference trajectories are computed from the model of the parallel manipulator assuming that it is subject to only the gravitational force and no friction exists. In the actual operation where friction exists, the control inputs, which correspond to the friction forces, are obtained by forcing the actual joint variables to follow these trojectories by proper control. It is shown that control performance can be improved when the friction compensation based on this information is added to the controller for position control of the moving plate of a parallel manipulator.

  • This work presents an iterative mesh partitioning approach to improve the efficiency of parallel substructure finite element computations. The proposed approach employs an iterative strategy with a set of empirical rules derived from the results of numerical experiments on a number of different finite element meshes. The proposed approach also utilizes state-of-the-art partitioning techniques in its iterative partitioning kernel, a cost function to estimate the computational cost of each submesh, and a mechanism that adjusts element weights to redistribute elements among submeshes during iterative partitioning to partition a mesh into submeshes (or substructures) with balanced computational workloads. In addition, actual parallel finite element structural analyses on several test examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach proposed herein. The results show that the proposed approach can effectively improve the efficiency of parallel substructure finite element computations.

  • Parallel manipulators have been used for a variety of applications, including the motion simulators and mechanism for precise machining. Since the ball screws used for linear motion of legs of the Stewart-Gough type parallel manipulator provide wider contact areas than revolute joints, parallel manipulators are usually more affected by frictional forces than serial manipulators. In this research, the method for detecting the frictional forces arising in the parallel manipulator using the gravitational force is proposed. First, the reference trajectories are computed from the dynamic model of the parallel manipulator assuming that it is subject to only the gravitational force without friction. When the parallel manipulator is controlled so that the platform follows the computed reference trajectory, this control force for each leg is equal to the friction force arising in each leg. It is shown that control performance can be improved when the friction compensation based on this information is added to the controller for position control of the moving plate of a parallel manipulator.

  • It is known that parallel-type mechanisms have many singularities than serial-type mechanisms. In haptic application, these singularities deteriorate the system performance when the haptic system displays the reflecting force. Moreover, different from general manipulators, haptic systems can't avoid the singular point because they are operated by user's random motion command. Although many singularity-free algorithms for serial mechanisms have been proposed and studied. singularity-free algorithms for parallel haptic application have not been deeply discussed. In this paper, various singularity-free algorithms, which are appropriate to parallel haptic system, will be discussedand evaluated.
