LPG 확산화염내 매연입자의 전기적 특성 및 전기장에 의한 입자 크기 변화 (Electrical characteristics of soot particles in a LPG diffusion flame and particle size change by electric fields)

  • Electrical characteristics of soot particles in a LPG diffusion flame were studied for the control of soot particle coagulation. When a DC voltage was applied between two electrodes installed parallel to gas flow, ionic wind effect caused soot deposition on the cathode, implying that most of the soot particles were positively charged. Soot deposit on the cathode linearly increased and was saturated with respect to the strength of the applied voltage. The possibility of applying an AC voltage to enhance the particle coagulation was then investigated and the efficiency of the size control was checked with transmission electron microscope photographs. For the amplitude of 2 kV AC field, primary (spherical) soot particle size decreased from 30 ~ 40 nm to around 20 nm when the frequency of the applied AC voltage was 60 Hz and higher. Collisions between the soot particles in such a selected AC condition could lead to the formation of much bigger agglomerates of roughly 1-5 .mu.m in size.

PLASMA-SULFNITRIDING USING HOLLOW CATHODE DISCHARGE

  • In order to plasma-sulfnitride by combining ion-nitriding of a steel and sputtering of MoS$_2$, chromium-molybdenum steel was plasma-sulfritrided using hollow cathode discharge with parallel electrodes which are a main of the steel and a subsidiary cathode of $MoS_2$. The treatment was carried out at 823K for 10.8ks under 665Pa in a 30% $N_2$-70% $H_2$ gas atmosphere. Plasma-sulfnitriding layers formed of the steel were characterized with EDX, XRD, micrographic structure observation and hardness measurement. A compound layer of 8-15$\mu\textrm{m}$ and nitrogen diffusion layer of about 400$\mu\textrm{m}$ were formed on the surface of plasma-sulfnitrided steel. The compound layer consisted of FeS containing Mo and iron nitrides. The nitrides of $\varepsilon$-$Fe_2_3N$ and $\gamma$'-$Fe_4N$ formed under the FeS. The thickness of compound layer and surface hardness were different with the gaps between main and subsidiary cathodes even in the same sulfnitriding temperature. The surface hardnesses after plasma-sulfnitriding were distributed from 640 to 830Hv. The surface hardness was higher in the plasma-sulfnitriding than the usual sulfnitriding in molten salt. This may be due to Mo in sulfnitriding layer.

  • Software and hardware for cochlear implant system have been developed to create a speech signal processing system which, in real-time, extracts model parameter including formants, pitch, amplitude information. The system is based on the Texas Instruments TMS320 family. In hardware, computer interface has been desisted and implemented that allows presentation of biphasic pulse stimuli to patients with the hearing handicapped. The host computer sends a stream of bytes to the parallel port. Upon receipt of the data the interface generates the appropriate burst sequence that is delivered to the patient's external transmitter coil. The coded information is interpreted by the Nucleus-22 internal receiver that delivers the pulse to the specified electrodes at the specified amplitude and pulse width.

반사층을 이용한 FBAR(SMR)의 제조 (Fabrication of FBAR (SMR) using Reflector)

  • 본 실험에서는 반사층(reflector)을 이용한 FBAR (Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator) 즉, SMR (Solidly Mounted Resonator) 제조에 필요한 재료들의 최적 증착 조건을 설정하여, 이를 바탕으로 제조한 SMR의 특성을 보여주었다. SMR은 상하부 전극층, 압전 박막층, 반사층, 기판으로 구성된다. 상하부 전극으로 알루미늄(Al) 금속 박막을 사용하였고 압전 박막층으로 산화아연(ZnO) 박막을 사용하였다. 실리콘(Si) 기판과 하부 전극 사이에 위치하는 반사층은 5층의 이산화규소 ($Si_2$)와 텅스텐(W) 박막으로 구성되었다. 상하부 전극은 dc 스퍼터링 방법으로 증착아였으며 반사층과 압전 박막층은 rf 스퍼터링 방법으로 증착하였다. 최적 증착 조건에서 증착된 산화아연 (ZnO) 박막은 rocking curve에서 표준편차가 $2.17^{\circ}$의 우수한 c축 우선배향성, 비저항은 $10^4\;{\Omega}cm$이상, 막 표면 거칠기(rms roughness)는 10.6${\AA}$의 특성을 나타내었다. 최적 증착 조건에서 증착된 텅스텐(W)과 이산화규소($Si_2$) 박막의 특성은 박막 거칠기 (rms roughness)가 각각 16 ${\AA}$, 33 ${\AA}$을 나타내었다. 또한 증착된 알루미늄 금속 박막의 비저항은 $5.1{\times}10^{-6}\;{\Omega}cm$이었다. 반도체 기본 공정을 이용하여 면적 $250{\times}250\;{\mu}m^2$의 SMR 소자를 만들고, 네트웍 분석기로 SMR 소자의 공진 특성을 분석하였다. 공진특성은 1.244 GHz에서 직렬공진, 1.251 GHz에서 병렬공진을 나타내었다. SMR 소자의 공진특성에서 공진기의 Q값은 1200이었다.

  • 마주보는 2개의 병렬전극을 이용한 스캔 방식의 디지털 X-ray 영상 센서는 많은 발전을 해왔으며 상업용으로 널리 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 PDP(plasma display panel) 제조 공정에서 사용되고 있는 글라스 재질에 silver paste 전극을 이용하여 드리프트 전극과 픽셀 전극이 있는 챔버를 형성하고 챔버내에 X-ray와 반응하는 Xe 가스를 주입하여 스캔 방식의 1D X-ray 영상 센서를 제작하였다. 드리프트 전극의 바이어스 전압 크기에 따른 싱글 픽셀의 X-ray 신호 크기를 평가하였으며 납(Pb)을 이용하여 싱글 픽셀을 차폐하였을 경우와 차폐하지 않았을 때의 싱글 픽셀 신호 특성을 조사하였다. X-ray 흡수율(4%)은 소다 라임(soda lime, 1.1mm) 글라스에서 가장 낮았으며 센서에서 검출되는 전기적 신호는 드리프트 전극에 인가하는 전압이 클수록 증가하였다. 그리고 자체 제작한 DAS(data acquisition system) 및 센서 스캐닝 시스템을 이용하여 디지털 영상을 구현하였다.

Development of Bioelectric Impedance Measurement System Using Multi-Frequency Applying Method

  • In order to measure the segmental impedance of the body, a bioelectrical impedance measurement system (BIMS) using multi-frequency applying method and two-electrode method was implemented in this study. The BIMS was composed of constant current source, automatic gain control, and multi-frequency generation units. Three experiments were performed using the BIMS and a commercial impedance analyzer (CIA). First, in order to evaluate the performance of the BIMS, four RC circuits connected with a resistor and capacitor in serial and/or parallel were composed. Bioelectrical impedance (BI) was measured by applying multi-frequencies -5, 10, 50, 100, 150, 200, 300, 400, and 500 KHz - to each circuit. BI values measured by the BIMS were in good agreement with those obtained by the CIA for four RC circuits. Second, after measuring BI at each frequency by applying multi-frequency to the left and right forearm and the popliteal region of the body, BI values measured by the BIMS were compared to those acquired by the CIA. Third, when the distance between electrodes was changed to 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 cm, BI by the BIMS was also compared to BI from the CIA. In addition, BI of extracellular fluid (ECF) was measured at each frequency ranging from 10 to 500 KHz. BI of intracellular fluid (ICF) was calculated by subtracting BI of ECF measured at 500 kHZ from BI measured at seven frequencies ranging from 50 to 500 KHz. BI of ICF and ECF decreased as the frequency increased. BI of ICF sharply decreased at frequencies above 300 KHz.

직류전기장에 의한 기포의 변형과 이탈에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Bubble Deformation and Departure Under DC Electric Field)

  • The deformation and departure processes of a bubble attached to the wall are studied experimentally and numerically to understand the phenomena of the nucleate boiling heat transfer enhancement under DC electric field. An air-bubble is injected in a dielectric liquid with different electric fields generated by changing three types of electrode system (Type 1,2 and 3) in the bubble generator. Experimental variables are the electric field strength and the distance and the shape of the electrodes under DC electric field. From experimental results, it is observed that the bubble under Dc electric field is elongated in the same direction as the electric field and the contact angle increases. For the parallel plate electrode which generates a uniform electric field, bubble departure volume doesn't seem to decrease within our experimental range. However, when a needle is raised a few millimeters from the lower electrode to make a nonuniform electric field around the needle, bubble departure volume decreases continuously with the increase of an applied voltage. The reduction effect of bubble departure volume is the most effective under a strong nonuniform electric field generated with Type 3. As the nonuniformity of the electric field due to the shape of a electrode increases, the terminal velocity and the acceleration of a bubble increase largely. For the comparison with visualization results, the deformation of a bubble attached to the electrode is carried out by a numerical method. Numerical results show good agreement qualitatively with experimental results.

전극 구조에 관한 2차원 RF 플라즈마의 모델링 (Modeling of Two-dimensional Self-consistent RF Plasmas on Discharge Chamber Structures)

  • 본 연구에서는 2차원적 유체 모델을 통하여 보다 실질적인 플라즈마를 이해하고자 하였으며, 기하학적인 방전전극 구조를 반영하도록 전극단에서 챔버 외벽의 거리를 변화시키면서 플라즈마의 특성을 정량적으로 비교 분석하고자 하였다. 방전 챔버의 구조로서, 전극의 반경과 방전 챔버의 높이는 일정하게 유지하면서 방전 챔버의 넓이를 변화시킴에 따라 형성되는 플라즈마의 특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 전극단과 챔버 외벽의 거리가 짧을수록 그 영역에서 전계가 강하게 형성되어, 외벽을 향하는 각 입자들의 움직임도 매우 활발하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 전각단과 외벽과의 거리가 짧을수록 전극 면상에서 형성되는 입자들의 수밀도와 유속의 변화가 일정하게 형성되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 웨이퍼의 대구경화에 따른 플라즈마의 균일성을 고려할 경우에 매우 효과적일 것으로 고려되어 진다.

토끼 흉부 대동맥 절편의 전기자극에 대한 수축 및 이완반응 (Electrical Stimulation Causes Endothelium-Dependent Relaxation in Isolated Aortic Vessels of the Rabbit)

  • The present study was aimed at investigating possible transmitter mechanisms in the endothelial cell layer in regulating the tone of the vascular smooth muscle. The thoracic aorta was isolated from the anesthetized male white rabbits and its helical strips were prepared. Electrical field stimulation was delivered to platinum wire electrodes positioned parallel to the vessel segment preconstricted with phenylephrine [3.5x10-6 mol/L at a distance of 1.5-2.0 mm. The electrical stimulation [70 V, 5 msec, 0.5-200 Hz caused either relaxation only [34% or a biphasic response [prolonged relaxation following a weak and transient contraction, 66% . The relaxation response was frequency- dependent, and at 200 Hz a complete relaxation was noted. Mechanical rubbing of the endothelial layer abolished or greatly attenuated the relaxation. The relaxation was also markedly attenuated in the presence of NG-nitro- L-arginine methyl ester [10-3mol/L or procaine hydrochloride [3.5x10-4mol/L . Tetrodotoxin,guanethidine, atropine or indomethacin failed to block or enhance the relaxation response to electrical field stimulation. It is concluded that the vascular endothelium in the aorta contains diffusible substances that regulates the function of the smooth muscle layer, in which relaxation is more prominent than contraction. Their release by the electrical stimualtion in vitro may not involve classic neuronal transmitter release mechanisms or metabolism of arachidonic acids by cyclooxygenase. The release of the relaxing agents may require an increase in cytosolic calcium level. The chemical nature of the relaxant may be, to a large extent, nitric oxide.

Initial Study of a Wire Mesh Tomography Sensor for Liquid/Gas Component Investigation

  • Experimental studies have been carried out to study the principle operation of the conductive type wire-mesh tomography sensor and analyse the wire-mesh tomography sensor for the liquid/gas two-phase flow interface and void fraction distribution in a process column. The measurement of the two-phase flows in the process column is based on the cross-sectional local instantaneous conductivity. The sensor consists of two planes of parallel electrode wires with 16 electrodes each and was placed orthogonally with each plane. The sensor electrode wires were made of tinned copper wire with an outer diameter of 0.91 mm which stretched over the sensor fixture. Therefore, this result in the mesh grid size with 5.53×5.53mm2. The wire-mesh sensor was tested in a horizontal liquid/gas two-phase flows process column with nominal diameter of 95.6 mm and the sampling frequency of 5882.3529 Hz. The tomogram results show that the wire-mesh tomography provides significant results to represent the void fraction distribution in the process column and estimation error was found in the liquid/gas interface level
