This work reports the pulse diagnosis system using FBG sensors which can display pulse signals detected while oriental medical doctors are conducting pulse diagnoses and simultaneously pressing the sensors by three fingers. Each optical fiber has five FBG sensing units fabricated in 2 mm width and 2 mm inter-sensor spacing. Three optical fibers with the FBG units in the parallel line configuration are then placed on each finger-pressing region and thus overall 9 fibers are used for the pulse measurements on the so-called "chon", "gwan", and "ch대k". A fixture holding the optical fiber arrays is able to adjust the height of the FBG sensing units while placing the fibers on the wrist. The pulse signals detected by the FBG sensors from chon, kwan, and chuk have been analyzed using 4 channel spectrum analyzer connected to the optical fibers. The measured pulse signals exhibit variations due to the nonuniform pressure distributions applied. resulting in the differences in the detected pulse signals between fiber lines. However. this work is the first step towards objective and quantitative analyses of the pulse diagnosis in oriental medicine which has traditionally been performed on subjective basis. Future works will be devoted to improving sensor stability, developing the way applying pressure and algorithms reporting the objective classification of the pulse status from systemic measurements using the sensors instead of relying on the clinicians' diagnoses subjectively performed. A successful pulse diagnosis system emerging in the future is expected to contribute to education as well as promoting pulse diagnosis in oriental medicine to the scientific research area.
The activation mechanism of K-induced contracture was studied in renal vascular muscle which does not generate an action potential readily and in taenia coli which generates a spike potential spontaneously. Helical strips of arterial muscle from rabbit renal arteries and longitudinal strips of taenia coli from guinea-pig's colons, respectively, were prepared. All experiments were performed in Tris-buffered Tyrode solution which was aerated with 100% $O_2$ and kept $35^{\circ}C$. Renal arterial muscles developed the contracture rapidly, which was composed of a small phasic and a large tonic components, when exposed to a 40 mM K-Tyrode solution. In the absence of external $Ca^{++}$, however, no K-contracture appeared. The contracture induced by K-depolarization was abolished by the treatment with verapamil, which is known to be a selective $Ca^{++}-blocker$ through potential-sensitive $Ca^{++}-channel$. K-contracture of taenia coli showed the contracture composed of a large phasic and a small tonic components. In the $Ca^{++}-free$ Tyrode solution, only the tonic component was abolished and almost no change in the phasic component was observed. The amplitude of tonic component was dependent on the external $Ca^{++}$; The tonic component increased dose-dependently by a stepwise increase of the external $Ca^{++}$, and this component decreased in parallel with the increase of verapamil in the external medium. The results of this experiment suggest that K-contracture of rabbit renal artery is the direct result of the influx of the external $Ca^{++}$, while that of taenia coli is the result of both $Ca^{++}$ influx and the release of sequestered $Ca^{++}$.
Analysis of multi-channel seismic reflection and well data serves to detail the structural evolution of the northern Okinawa Trough, southern offshore Korea. The overall structural style of the area is characterized by a series of half grabens and tilted fault blocks bounded by basement-involved listric normal faults. Most half grabens and tilted fault blocks developed in the direction of NNE-SSW, parallel to the axis of the Okinawa Trough. Orientation and distribution of the listric faults also suggest the development of transfer faults in NW-SE direction. The rifting phase of the northern Okinawa Trough have been established on the basis of structural and stratigraphic analyses of depositional sequences and their seismic expressions. Major phase of rifting probably started in the Late Miocene and the most active rifting occurred during the Early Pliocene. The rifting produced a series of half grabens and tilted fault blocks bounded by listric normal faults. It appears that the rifting activity has become weaker since the Late Pliocene, but the Pleistocene sediments faulted by listric faults bounding tilted fault blocks suggest that the rifting activity is probably still in progress.
This study is based on a series of numerical modeling experiments to understand the tidal circulation in the Kangjin Bay (KB). The tidal circulation in the KB is mostly controlled by the inflow from two channels, Noryang and Daebang which introduce the open ocean water into the northern part of the KB with relatively strong tidal current, while in the southern part of the KB, shallowest region of the entire study area, weak tidal current prevails. The model prediction of the sea level agrees with observed records at skill scores exceeding 90 % in terms of the four major tidal constituents (M2, S2, K1, O1). However, the skill scores for the tidal current show relatively lower values of 87, 99, 59, 23 for the semi-major axes of the constituents, respectively. The tidal ellipse parameters in the KB are such that the semi-major axes of the ellipse for M2 range from 1.7 to 38.5 cm/s and those for S2 range from 0.5 to 14.4 cm/s. The orientations of the major-axes show parallel with the local isobath. The eccentricity values at various grid points of ellipses for M2 and S2 are very low with 0.2 and 0.06 on the average, respectively illustrating that the tidal current in the KB is strongly rectilinear. The magnitude of the tidal residual current speed in the KB is on the order of a few cm/s and its distribution pattern is very complex. One of the most prominent features is found to be the counter-clockwise eddy recirculation cell at the mouth of the Daebang Channel.

Mobile devices become a pak of our daily life due to their versatility, such as the wireless phone calls, the wireless accessibility to Internet, the display of multimedia content, and the communication with nearby mobile devices. Third generation telecommunication service provides an easy access to the Internet for nubile devices. Mobile users pay a fee charged by the telecommunication provider based on the amount of data transferred. This paper introduces a special ad hoc network in which mobile devices cooperate each other to download an interesting content from the Internet in order to reduce the telecommunication cost. The mobile devices, called the peers, in the ad hoc network are assigned a portion of the target file, and are responsible for downloading the portion using their 3G connection. Then, the peers exchange their downloaded portion with other participating peers using their cost-free ad hoc connection in order to reconstruct the whole content. According to the simulation results, large number of participating peers saves the telecommunication cost up to 90% with as few as 10 peers, although it slightly increase the overall content reconstruction time.
Modern networks consisting of various heterogeneous equipment are often installed in a distributed manner. Thus the NETCONF standard was established to manage networks centrally and efficiently. In this paper, we present a method that integrates each NETCONF layer into a single system based on the results of previous studies. In the RPC Layer, an asynchronous communication channel and parallel processes are possible using multi-threading. In the Operation Layer, operational efficiency is increased by using a data group with dependencies between the equipment configuration data and by improving the data structure, enabling efficiently processing of XML queries even with multiple managers. The data modeling techniques and grouping methods in the Content Layer are presented in detail for interoperability between the Operation Layer and the Content Layer. Finally, the GUI program was implemented and its implementation is reported. We performed an experiment comparing the improved NETCONF with the standard NETCONF to measure factors, such as query processing ratio, query processing speed, and CPU utilization. The improved NETCONF demonstrated excellent query processing ratio and query processing speed, whereas the standard NETCONF had excellent CPU utilization.

The digital transmission system entered in a RF region as digital system use IC chips of the speeder edge rate and clock speed nowadays. Optical path really was used in order to obtain the more capacity. In this paper, we described importance of electrical interconnect to get the signal integrity in optical module by simulation and experiment. 12 channel${\times}$2.5 G/ps optical parallel transmitter modules were manufactured by two different method ; access lines with microstrip and stripline type. We have clearly shown that the optical module adopting microstrip type with S$\sub$11/ $\geq$ -10 dB presents distortion but the optical module adopting stripline type with S$\sub$11/ $\leq$ : 15 dB obtains eye opening in 2.5 Gbis optical eye pattern response.
The present study has been performed to investigate the influences of rectangular fins on heat transfer in an impingement/effusion cooling system with crossflow. To simulate the impingement/effusion cooling system with initial crossflow, two perforated plates are placed in parallel and staggered arrangements with a gap distance of 2 times of the hole diameter. The crossflow passes between the plates, and various rectangular fins are installed on the plates. Reynolds number based on the hole diameter is fixed to 10,000 and the flow rate of crossflow is changed from 0.5 to 1.5 times of that of the impinging jet. A naphthalene sublimation method is used to obtain the heat/mass transfer coefficients on the effusion plate. Also to analyze the flow characteristics, a numerical calculation is performed. When rectangular fins are installed, the flow and heat transfer pattern is changed greatly from case without fins. In the injection hole region, the jet impinges on effusion plate without deflection and wall jet spreads symmetrically. In the effusion region, the crossflow accelerates due to the decrease of cross-sectional area in the channel. Local heat/mass transfer coefficients are enhanced significantly compared to case without fins. As the blowing ratio increases, the effect of fins against the crossflow becomes more significant and then the higher average heat/mass transfer coefficients are obtained than the case without fins.

Experimental study on a cross-flow air-cooled plate heat exchanger (PHE) was performed. Two types of PHEs were manufactured either with single-wave plates or with double-wave plates in parallel. Cooling air flows through the PHEs in a crosswise direction against internal hot water. The heat exchanger aims to substitute open-loop cooling towers with closed-loop water circulation, which guarantees cleanliness and compactness. In this study, prototype single-wave and double-wave PHEs were designed and tested in a laboratory scale experiments. From the tests, the double-wave PHE shows approximately 50% enhanced heat transfer performance compared to the single-wave PHE. However, the double-wave PHE costs 30% additional pressure drop. For the commercialization, a wide channel design for air flow would be essential for performance and reliability.
This paper presents a single board digital signal processing system which can perform two-dimensional (2-D) digital infinite impulse response (IIR) filtering in realtime. We have developed an architecture to provide not only the necessary computational power but also a balance of the system input/output and computational requirements. The architecture achieves large system throughput by using highly parallel processing at both the system and processor levels. It reduces system data communication requirements significantly by taking advantage of a custom-designed processor and by providing each processor with its own input and ouput channel. After system initialization, almost 100 percent of the time is used for data processing. Data transfers occur concurrently with data processing. The functional level simulation reveals that the system throughput can reach as high as one pixel per system cycle. With only 10MHz clock frequency system, it can implement up to fourth order 2-D IIR filters for video-rate data ($512\times512$ pixels per frame at 30 frames per second). If we increase the system frequency, the system can be used for the preprocessing and postprocessing of video signal of HDTV.
