In order to know the comparative histological structure of the tongue of some domestic and laboratory animals, the root of the tongue has been investigated by light microscopy. The filiform papillae were mainly distributed in the root of the tongue of most animals and many foliate papillae were also found in the dog and rabbit. On the other hand, only filiform papillae were found in the fowl. The very well-developed mucosa was found in the cattle and in the dog, fowl, rat and mouse was fair. The lamina propria was well developed in the cattle, dog and pig, The muscle layer was well developed in the cattle. The adipose tissue which distributed between the muscle fibers was mainly found in the dog. The lingual glands were well developed in the pig, fowl and rabbit. The properties of these glands were shown strung acid mucopolysaccharide in the dog and pig, weak acid mucopolysaccharide in the fowl, rabbit and rat and neutral or acid mucopolysaccharide in the mouse. The species differences on the histological structure of the tongue were also ascertained by light microscopical observations.
This study was performed to investigate the soft tissue changes around single implant-supported crowns during followup periods. Twenty patients(31 implants) whose single missing tooth in the maxillary anterior region had been replaced with an single implant-supported crown were recruited for the study. Crown length, soft tissue level and papilla height at the single implant-supported crowns were measured at follow-up examination and calculated from the slides taken at time of crown placement. as well Papilla index was scored from the slides taken at the time of crown placement and follow-up examination. A very little amount of recession occurred and the soft tissue level moved more apically and the papilla height increased significantly (p<0.01). Especially, both mesial and distal papilla index at single implant-supported crowns increased significantly during follow-up periods (p<0.001). When the two slides taken at the time of crown placement and follow-up were compared simultaneously, except one site, papillae size increased at all sites. From the results of the study, the interdental papillae at the single implant-supported crowns seemed to regenerate significantly and their crown margins were stable during follow-up periods. Hence it is indicated that various surgical interventions at on early stage to enhance soft tissue esthetics arourd single implants may be unnecessary.

A scanning electron microscopic study was performed to observe surface ultrastructures of excysted metacercariae and adults of Metagonimus miyatai. Metacercariae were collected from the scale of the pale chub (Zacco platypus). and adult flukes were harvested 1-4 weeks after infection to rats. In excysted metacercariae, the oral sucker was devoid of tegumental spines and had type I and type II sensory papillae. Anteriorly to the ventral sucker, spines were dense and digitated into 5-7 points, whereas near the posterior end of the body spines were sparse and digitated into 2-3 points. In one-week adults, 7 type II sensory papillae were arranged around the lip of the oral sucker. and at inner side of the lip one pair of small and two pairs of large type I sensory papillae were seen on each side. The distribution of tegumental spines was similar to that of metacercariae, but they were more differentiated with 9-11 pointed tips. In two- to four- week old adults, the surface ultrastructure was nearly the same as in one-week old adults, however, sperms were frequently seen entering into the Laurer's canal. Conclusively, the surface ultrastructure of M. miyatai was generally similar to that of M. yokogawai, however, differentiation of tegumental spines and distribution of sensory papillae around the oral sucker were different between the two species. which may be of taxonomic significance.
A scanning electron microscopic study was performed to observe the tegumental ultrastructures of Paragonimus iloktuenensis according to its developmental stages. The metacercariae were obtained from the liver of the brackish water crab, Sesarma dehaani. Juvenile and adult p. iloktsuenensis were recovered from the experimental rats on 2, 4 and 8 weeks after infection. The findings were summarized as follows: 1. The encysted metacercariae were charaeteristically gourd-shape, with their whole body surface beset with numerous spade-shape spines. The Barge, type II sensory papillae (non-ciliated round swellings) were arranged along the rim of the oral and ventral suckers, 11~12 and 6~8 in numbers respectively, 2. Two-week old juvenile worms, recovered chieay from the liver of the experimental rats, were slender in body shape: with their ventral sucker near the anterior one-third level. The distribution of tegumental spines was less dense than in the encysted metacercariae. The spines were with 1~2 pointed tips and 3~.4 longitudinal splits. Numerous ciliated knob-like, type I papillae were observed in both sides of the oral sucker, and 6 large, type If papillae were arranged along the rim of the ventral sucker. 3. Four week old worms, recovered from the thoracic cavity and/or lung parenchyme of the experimental rats, were thicker than wide in body configuration, and their ventral sucker was located near the anterior one.fourth level. The tegumental spines at ventral surface were grouped, each group with 3~5 aggregated ones. The type I and type II papillae (small-sired) were distributed chiefly around the rim of two suckers. 4. Adult (eight-week old) worms, recovered from the capsules in the lung parenchyme, were very stout, and covered densely with bearfoot like spines. At dorsal surface, cobblestone-like cytoplasmic processes were well-developed, with many tegumental spines embedded in them. It was observed in this study that the tegument of p. iloktsuenensis continued to change and differentiate as the worms grew to be adults.
Tegumental ultrastructures of Echinochasmus japonicus were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The worms were recovered from albino rats which were experimentally infected with the metacercariae obtained from Pseudorasbora parva. Followings are summarized findings. 1. The worms were minute and plumpy gourdshaped with attenuated anterior and round posterior end. The tegument of whole body was wrinkled transversely and covered with cobblestone-like cytoplasmic processes. 2. Head crown was armed with 24 collar spines which were embedded in cytoplasmic pockets. The spines were arranged in a row with an interruption at dorsomedian line, however, the 2nd and the 4th spines were outstretched more than others. Oral and ventral suckers were muscular with numerous type II sensory papillae, and genital pore opened between the two suckers. 3. Tegumental spines were spade-shaped with broad base and pointed tip. They were compact in ventra-lateral tegument or dorsal surface of anterior body. They were not found between the two suckers and dorsal surface of posterior body. 4. Two types of sensory papillae, uni-ciliated (Type I) and roundly swollen sensory papillae (Type II), were observed. The type I papillae were chiefly distributed on ventral surface of tegument and type II were on the lips of suckers. Arrangement of collar spines, shape and distribution of tegumental spines or sensory papillae are regarded as characteristic features of E. japonicus.
Yellow mutants of the astaxanthin producing red yeast Phaffia rhodozyma were obtained by nitrosoguanidine mutagenesis. The carotenoid composition of the yelow mutants, Yan-1 and Ny-1, was mainly $\beta$ -carotene (> 95$%$) and torulene (< 5$$). Therefore, the yellow mutants are carotene oxygenation deficient mutants (CODMs). CODMs produced decreased quantities of carotenoids compared to their red parents and this indicated that carotene may regulate its synthesis. CODMs, Yan-1 and Ny-4, on plates containing 50 $\mu$ M antimycin, showed highly pigmented vertical papillae. Antimycin-induced mutants purified from the papillae showed increases in carotenoid content (up to 1 mg $\beta$-carotene/g yeast). CODMs, Yan-1 and Ay-1, were more sensitive to antimycin than red strains, Ant-1 and 67-385. This was probably due to lower antioxidant activity of $\beta$-carotene than that of astaxanthin. Light increased torulene and light+antimycin further increased the torulene. Yan-1 and Ny-4 could grow with succinate, though their red parents, Ant-1 and Anf-1p, could not. However, antimycin induced mutation of Yan-1 or Ny-4 destroyed the ability to grow with succinate.
Amynthas hupeiensis with 6/7/8/9 intersegmental spermathecal pores keys to the sieboldi-group in Sims and Easton (1972). Two pairs of round genital papillae are always between segments 17/18 and 18/19, and male pore regions are positioned in between the genital papillae. Korean Amynthas hupeiensis is usually collected from various agroecosystems. Description of the Amynthas hupeiensis is provided, including illustrations of ventral view and spermathecae, DNA barcoding data, and photo.
Mesorhabditis microbursaris (Steiner, 1926) Sudhaus, 2011, belonging to the family Mesorhabditidae (Rhabditomorpha), is newly reported from South Korea. During a survey of small streams, M. microbursaris was isolated from sedimentary soil samples. The genus Mesorhabditis Osche, 1952 nematodes are distributed all over the world and are mostly found from terrestrial habitats, however are sometimes found in freshwater. At present, 34 valid species have been recorded from Mesorhabditis; however, only three species have been reported from South Korea. Mesorhabditis microbursaris exhibits morphological characters of other congeneric species, including shorter distance between vulva and anus than the distance between anus and tail, rudimentary bursa with narrow velum and short genital papillae, shorter spicules than tail and conical tail. However, this species can be distinguished from other Mesorhabditis species by its morphometric characters and three pairs of bursal papillae. Details of the morphological characteristics and morphometrics of M. microbursaris are described and illustrated based on optical microscopy.
