Change of Optical Properties in Zinc Oxide-Based Glasses including Metal Oxides for Transparent Dielectric

  • This paper presents a new method for the improvement of color temperature without the change of the driving scheme using transparent dielectric layers with various metal oxides (CeO$_2$, Co$_3$O$_4$, CuO, Fe$_2$O$_3$, MnO$_2$, NiO) in plasma display panels (PDP). In this study, we fabricated ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$-Al$_2$O$_3$ glasse with various metal oxides and examined the optical properties of these glasses. As the metal oxides were added to the glasses, the visible transmittances of the dielectric layers decreased and the transmittances in special wavelength regions were reduced at different rates. The change of the transmittance in each wavelength range induced the variation of the visible emission spectra and the change of the color temperature in the PDP. The addition of Co$_3$O$_4$ and CuO slightly decreased the intensity of the blue light, but the intensities of the green and the red light were significantly decreased. Therefore, the color temperature can be improved from 6087K to 7378K and 7057K, respectively.

Analysis of Color Distortion in Hazy Images (안개가 포함된 영상에서의 색 왜곡 특성 분석)

  • In this paper, the color distortion in images with haze would be analyzed. When haze is included in the scene, the color signal reflected in the scene is accompanied by color distortion due to the influence of transmittance according to the haze component. When the influence of haze is excluded by a conventional de-hazing method, the distortion of color tends to not be sufficiently resolved. Khoury et al. used the dark channel priority technique, a haze model mentioned in many studies, to determine the degree of color distortion. However, only the tendency of distortion such as color error values was confirmed, and specific color distortion analysis was not performed. This paper analyzes the characteristic of color distortion and proposes a restoration method that can reduce color distortion. Input images of databases used by Khoury et al. include Macbeth color checker, a standard color tool. Using Macbeth color checker's color values, color distortion according to changes in haze concentration was analyzed, and a new color distortion model was proposed through modeling. The proposed method is to obtain a mapping function using the change in chromaticity by step according to the change in haze concentration and the color of the ground truth. Since the form of color distortion varies from step to step in proportion to the haze concentration, it is necessary to obtain an integrated thought function that operates stably at all stages. In this paper, the improvement of color distortion through the proposed method was estimated based on the value of angular error, and it was verified that there was an improvement effect of about 15% compared to the conventional method.

Shear-induced color transition of PDA (polydiacetylene) liposome in polymeric solutions

  • The polydiacethylene (PDA) is known to change its color by mechanical shear. The shear-induced color transition has been reported with elastomer or film type of PDA. In this paper, we newly investigated the transition with liposome type of PDAs in polymeric solutions. The liposomes were dispersed in Poly(vinyl alcohol) 2% + Sodium borate 1%, Poly(vinyl alcohol) 15% and Hyaluronic acid 1% (PVA/B, PVA, HA). The shear stress was continuously imposed to each solution by stress control type rheometer with coni-cylinder fixture. The degree of color transition was quantified with the characteristic absorbance peak at 540 nm (blue) and 640 nm (red). As a result, PDA liposome in PVA/B solution changed the color from blue to red upon increasing the magnitude of shear (from 0 to 100 Pa) and the duration of shear-imposed time (from 0 to 5400 sec). Meanwhile, PDA liposome in HA or PVA solution did not noticeably change the color, even though the low shear viscosities of the solutions were kept almost constant. This color transition of PDA liposome is expected to measure the magnitude of shear, and to distinguish different responses of polymeric solutions to the applied shear.

Color matching using dot gain and intensity compensation for different substrates (점이득 보정과 명도 보정을 이용한 서로 다른 매질 사이의 색정합)

  • In a drop-on-demand thermal ink-jet printer, the dot size of an ink droplet expelled from a printer depends on the absorption of the paper. This causes severe differences between output images on the different paper materials. In this paper, the color matching algorithm for different papers is proposed. To achieve corresponding color reproduction, dot gain compensatio nbased on saturation was applied to predict color reproduction on a printer. If the dot gain of pigment increases, the white portion of paper decreases while the saturation value increases monotonically. As the results of dot gain compensation, intensity change may appear. Therefore, an intensity compensation without any hue variation is followed to match the colors of different subtrates.

Video Haze Removal Method in HLS Color Space (HLS 색상 공간에서 동영상의 안개제거 기법)

  • This paper proposes a new haze removal method for moving image sequence. Since the conventional dark channel prior haze removal method adjusts each color component separately in RGB color space, there can be severe color distortion in the haze removed output image. In order to resolve this problem, this paper proposes a new haze removal scheme that adjusts luminance and saturation components in HLS color space while retaining hue component. Also the conventional dark channel prior haze removal method is developed to obtain best haze removal performance for a single image. Therefore, if it is applied to a moving image sequence, the estimated parameter values change rapidly and the haze removed output image sequence shows unnatural glitter defects. To overcome this problem, a new parameter estimation method using Kalman filter is proposed for moving image sequence. Experimental results demonstrate that the haze removal performance of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional dark channel prior method.

  • The difference of whiteness, brightness and lightness was clearly explained in this paper through the use of a tinting dye and a fluorescent whitening agent which are commercially wide]y used to make paper look whiter. Other optical properties such as tint, color shade, and color difference were also discussed. It was suggested that in comparing two tinting dyes, lightness $(L^*)$ is the most important property to be compared, while whiteness data should be used in caution in order not to surpass its significant range, and $a^*,\;b^*$ values can also be used to see the change of color shades together with ${\Delta}E$ as color difference. In comparing two fluorescent whitening agents, whiteness or brightness values are most important to be compared, but lightness values are not suitable fur this purpose; $a^*,\;b^*$ and color difference ${\Delta}E$ can also be referred, but with less significance.

Identification of 5-Jung-color and 5-Kan-color In Video (비디오에서 오정색과 오간색 식별)

  • As color was used for formative language since a human activity was beginning, all the symptoms in the world that the human eye can see is present. In this paper, we identify Korea traditional color harmony for extracted key frames from scene change detection. Traditional color is classified as 5-Jung-color and 5-Kan-color, and determine whether to harmony. Red, blue, yellow, black, and white, called 5-Jung-color and pink, blue, purple, sulfur, and green, called the 5-Kan-color was identified. First, we extract edge using Canny algorithm. And, we are labeling and clustering colors around the edge. Finally, we identify the traditional color using identification method of traditional color harmony. The proposed study in this paper has been proven through experiments.

  • In this paper, new gamut-mapping algorithm (GMA) that utilizes variable anchor points (center of gravity on the luminance axis) is proposed. The proposed algorithm increases luminance range, which is reduced from conventional gamut mapping toward an anchor point. In this process, this algorithm utilizes multiple anchor points with constant slopes to both reduce a sudden color change on the gamut boundary of the printer and to maintain a uniform color change during the mapping process. Accordingly, the proposed algorithm can reproduce high quality images with low-cost color devices.

  • This paper presented a new scene change detection method of compounding color histogram and $x^2$ histogram. This method overcomes the disadvantages of difference value detection methods and will be taking advantage. Also, this method can detect all from the abrupt scene change detection to gradual scene change detection. The proposed method has been compared with previous method, and our experimental results show the better results than the previous method.

  • In recent, displays have very good properties at high luminance, fast response, and size. Also They have good quality in terms of color according to the development of the gamut extension and color reproduction. However, despite these merits, there is a characteristic that at a high luminance display, observer perceive the different color from the originally re-producted color due to the change of perceived luminance in human visual system. In this paper, we propose a model that is the hue shift phenomenon between a normal display and a high luminance display, and then an algorithm which compensate the color between two devices, so that observer can perceive the same color.
