Purpose - This study empirically investigates the effects of Official Development Assistance (ODA) on the economic activities of private actors in recipient countries. As a proxy for the economic activities of private actors, we utilize the job creation activities of foreign subsidiaries in recipient countries. The foreign subsidiaries provide a foundation for economic development by creating paying jobs. That is, if ODA has been successfully transferred to foreign subsidiaries, then these foreign subsidiaries should help economic growth and help create a boom in the local market by providing jobs. These jobs eventually lead to the achievement of the primary aims of foreign aid, including poverty reduction. Thus, this study empirically examines the relationship between ODA and the number of jobs created by foreign subsidiaries in recipient countries. Design/methodology - This is the first study to examine the effects of the ODA on the job creation of foreign subsidiaries because it has been hard to obtain internal information related to the employment status of foreign subsidiaries. Fortunately, we have a unique panel dataset provided by the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) for 2006 to 2013. In terms of the empirical specification, we use the generalized least squares (GLS) method. The panel GLS estimator allows us to have an efficient estimation that overcomes the limitations of the panel data. It employs assumptions about the heteroscedasticity between the panels and makes an autocorrelation of the error term within each panel. Findings - We find that ODA influences job creation in foreign subsidiaries. In particular, we found that ODA creates more jobs in sales than in managerial or production positions. This study also shows that the effect of the ODA on the foreign subsidiaries' job creation activities depend on the purpose of the ODA. By examining ODA effects on the foreign subsidiaries' economic activities (e.g., job creation), this study fills a gap in the current literature. Originality/value - Existing studies that focus on the ODA effect have either a macroeconomic point or a microeconomic point of view. However, both approaches do not explain how well foreign aid has influenced private economic actors of recipient countries. In essence, previous researchers found it difficult to obtain the necessary data for internal employment status from foreign subsidiaries. However, thanks to the Korea Export-Import Bank, this study shows that ODA indeed influences the job creation activities of foreign subsidiaries even after controlling for other factors such as FDI, GDP growth rate, employment rate, household expenditure, mother firms' share, etc. By doing so, we can examine how ODA influences the job creation of foreign subsidiaries, which might help economic development and reduce the amount of poverty in recipient countries.

This study analyzes the effects of the number of angles and bends on resistance in a conductor-embroidered stitch circuit for efficient power transfer through a conductor of wearable energy harvesting to study changes in power lost through connection with actual solar panels. In this study, the angle of the conductive stitch circuit was designed in units of 30˚, from 30˚ to 180˚, and the resistance was measured using an analog Discovery 2 device. The measured resistance value was analyzed, and in the section of the angle where the resistance value rapidly changes, it was measured again and analyzed in units of 5˚. Following this, from the results of the analysis, the angle at which the tension was applied to the stitch converges was analyzed, and the resistance was measured again by varying the number of bends of the stitch at the given angle. The resistance decreases as the angle of the stitch decreases and the number of bends increases, and the conductor embroidery stitch can reduce the loss of power by 1.61 times relative to general embroidery. These results suggest that the stitching of embroidery has a significant effect on the power transfer in the transmission through the conductors of wearable energy harvesting. These results indicate the need for a follow-up study to develop a conductor circuit design technology that compares and analyzes various types of stitches, such as curved stitches, and the number of conductors, so that wearable energy harvesting can be more efficiently produced and stored.
Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has been challenging the healthcare service, i.e., the vitalization of the point of care accompanying self-testing in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVDs). This study aims to suggest priority criteria to classify self-testing IVDs using the analytic hierarchy process technique. Methods: Two dimensions of the characteristics embedded in the IVDs and the diseases to be diagnosed with self-testing IVDs were parallelly considered and independently investigated. In addition, three expert panels consisting of laboratory medical doctors (n=11), clinicians (n=10), and citizens (n=11) who have an interest in the selection of self-testing IVDs were asked to answer to questionnaires. Priorities were derived and compared among each expert panel. Results: First of all, ease of specimen collection (0.241), urgency of the situation (0.224), and simplicity of device operation (0.214) were found to be the most important criteria in light of the functional characteristics of self-testing IVDs. Medical doctors valued the ease of specimen collection, but the citizen's panel valued self-management of the disease more. Second, considering the characteristics of the diseases, the priority criteria were shown in the order of prevalence of diseases (0.421), fatality of disease (0.378), and disease with stigma (0.201). Third, medical doctors responded that self-testing IVDs were more than twice as suitable for non-communicable diseases as compared to communicable diseases (0.688 vs. 0.312), but the citizen's group responded that self-testing IVDs were slightly more suitable for infectious diseases (0.511 vs. 0.489). Conclusion: Our findings suggested that self-testing IVDs could be primarily classified as the items for diagnosis of non-communicable diseases for the purpose of self-management with easy specimen collection and simple operation of devices, taking into account the urgency of the situation as well as prevalence and fatality of the disease.
Recently, in the field of railway vehicles, interest in the use of composite materials for weight reduction and transportation efficiency is increasing. Accordingly, research and commercialization development to apply composite materials to various vehicle parts are being actively conducted, and evaluation is conducted centering on post-measurement such as mechanical performance evaluation of finished products to verify quality when composite materials are applied. However, the analysis of heat and stress generated during the molding process of composite materials, which are factors that greatly affect manufacturing quality, is insufficient. Therefore, in this study, in order to verify the molding quality of composite parts for railway vehicles, the molding quality analysis was conducted for the two types of composite interior panels (laminate panel and sandwich panel) that are most actively used. To this end, temperature and strain changes were monitored during the molding process by using an FBG fiber optic sensor, which is easy to apply to the inside of the composite, and the residual strain value generated after molding was completed was measured. As a result, it was confirmed that overheating and excessive residual stress did not occur, thereby verifying the excellent molding quality of the composite interior panel for railway vehicles.

This study introduces the development of a precast concrete double-wall, applicable to basement construction in apartment buildings. Unlike traditional precast concrete double walls, the developed double-wall doesn't require specialized manufacturing equipment such as a lathe. The constructability of these advanced technologies was validated through a full-scale mock-up test using the precast concrete double wall. The test specimens were constructed to represent a structural wall with a thickness of 250mm. It was observed that the quality of the in-situ concrete, filled between two single panels of 110mm thickness each, was excellent. The construction efficiency of the developed double-wall system for basement construction in an apartment building was also examined. Expert interviews about installation times of precast concrete elements were conducted to evaluate the speed of the basement floor's installation. The results showed that installation of precast concrete elements, including the proposed double walls, could be completed within 20 to 29 days for a basement in an apartment building. This indicates a three-fold increase in construction efficiency compared to traditional methods relying on in-situ casting.
Purpose - Consumers have a variety of strategies to find information about restaurants they want to visit. Consumers can search for and use information from a variety of sources before purchasing a product or service. The development of the Internet has made that consumers could access various informations easily. Therefore, this study classified commercial information provided by restaurants, public information shared by other unknown consumers, and personal information shared by customers' personal experiences or friends/family. This study is information sources influence on enjoyment, attitude and visit intention. Research design, data, methodology - In order to verify the research hypothesis, this study created questionnaires for each variable. Hypothesis analysis data were collected through surveys. In order to develop research hypotheses for this study, the scales was developed. The survey was conducted by an online survey company. Among the online panels owned by survey company, those who have visited restaurants through at least one of the 11 sources provided in this study within the last 3 months were surveyed. The survey period was 10 days from March 5 to 14, 2017. A total of 1,500 e-mails and messages were sent back to 301 of them, and 288 were used for analysis except for 13 missing responses. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. Results - As a result of analysis, commercial and personal information have a positive effect on enjoyment, but general information did not affect enjoyment. In addition, personal information has a positive effect on attitude, but commercial information and general information did not affect attitude. It was found that commercial information influenced attitude by mediation of pleasure, and pleasure had no significant effect on visit intention. Finally, attitude has a significant effect on visit intention. Conclusions - The restaurant needs to provide accurate information through its homepage or brochure. Accurate information that is not exaggerated can save customers's the cost of believing on a restaurant and the cost of searching for other information. The restaurant which provides unfaithful advertisement would be excluded from customer's choice because customers perceive it as a unreliable restaurant. The marketing of restaurant should be carried out through customer-oriented for the visit of customers. And restaurants need to provide optimized services to their first-time customers in order to increase their revisit.
Slope failures during rainfall have been observed in mountainous areas of South Korea as a result of the presence of solar power facilities. The seepage behavior and pore pressure distribution differ from typical slopes due to the presence of impermeable solar panels, and the load imposed by the solar power structures also affects the slope behavior. This study aims to develop a method for evaluating the stability of slopes with solar power facilities and to analyze vulnerable points by considering the maximum slope displacement. To assess the slope stability and predict behavior while considering rainfall seepage, a combined seepage analysis and finite difference method numerical analysis were employed. For the selected site, various variables were assumed, including parameters related to the Soil Water Characteristic Curve, strength parameters that satisfy the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, soil properties, and topographic factors such as slope angle and bedrock depth. The factors with the most significant influence on the factor of safety (FOS) were identified. The presence of solar power facilities was found to affect the seepage distribution and FOS, resulting in a decreasing trend due to rainfall seepage. The maximum displacement points were concentrated near the upper (crest) and lower (toe) sections of the slope.
Service-related research in accordance with the transition to the service economy era has been conducted in a wide variety of ways, but the development of a service-related scale suitable for the present time is still insignificant. The purpose of this study is to define the nature of services and to develop measurement items for them. First, four categories of service nature were adopted in the previous study. The four categories are 'relationship', 'interactivity', 'horizontality', and 'harmony'. In this study, sub-factors and specific items of each of these four service essences were extracted and developed as measurable items. As a qualitative study, the four categories of sub-factors were extracted, and a mixed study was adopted to prove the reliability and validity of the extracted factors through quantitative studies. The scale items were identified through literature study, free response method, and Delphi technique, and the measurement items were refined through a second questionnaire of 30 Delphi panels composed of experts. As a result of the study, 15 out of 52 questions for relationship, 11 out of 45 questions for bilateral direction, 9 out of 33 questions for horizontality, and 17 out of 61 questions for harmonization were derived after secondary refining. Through this study, it was possible to uncover new essential items suitable for the service economy era. SNS, network, synergy, platform, system, real name, and breakthrough are concepts that have not been obtained in previous studies, and can be seen as contributions of this study. However, due to various limitations, this study did not cover all aspects of the service, but mainly dealt with people-centered services, which are part of the service. In the future, it is necessary to study the development of service essence measurement items for the overall aspect of services developed according to the evolution of the service economy era.

In AASHTO LRFD (2007), a compact section is defined as a section in which no premature failure caused by local buckling of web and flange plate or later buckling occurs before the section reaches the plastic moment, Mp. The current AASHTO LRFD (2007) provides the compact section requirement by limiting the web slenderness only for webs without longitudinal stiffeners. The role of longitudinal stiffener is to increase the web buckling strength caused flexure. Although a web does not satisfy the compactness requirement without longitudinal stiffeners, the web buckling can be prevented by use of valid longitudinal stiffeners. Therefore, the web may be able to reach the plastic moment. However, the reason why a longitudinal stiffener may not be used to satisfy compactness requirement is not cleary explained in AASHTO LRFD (2007). In this study, the buckling and ultimate strength behaviors of stiffened webs subjected to bending are investigated through the linear buckling and nonlinear finite element analysis. It is found that steel plate girders having webs that do not satisfy the compactness requirement are able to reach the plastic moment if the longitudinal stiffeners have sufficient rigidities and are properly located. From a nonlinear regression analysis of the results, a new compactness requirement is suggested for webs stiffened with one longitudinal stiffener.

The fire performance of RC slabs with half-depth precast panel after exposure to the ISO-834 fire standard without loading has been experimentally investigated. During heating, according to the ISO 834 fire curve, concrete spalling was observed for concrete without PP(polypropylene) fibers. No spalling occurred when heating concrete containing PP fibers. The maximum temperature of RC slabs with PP fibers with half-depth precast panel was lower than that of concrete without PP fibers. The ultimate load after cooling of the RC slabs that were not loaded during the furnace tests was evaluated by means of 3 points bending tests. The ultimate load of the RC slabs without PP fibers showed a considerable reduction (around 32.5%) of the ultimate load after cooling if compared with of RC slabs with PP fibers. The ultimate load of the RC slabs with half-depth precast panel with PP fibers is higher than that of a full-depth RC slabs with PP fibers. Also, the addition of PP fibers and the use of half-depth precast panel improve fire resistance.
