  • Ten [$Pd^{II}$(dicarboxylato)(1, 2-diaminocyclohexane)] complexes were prepared after the antitumor-active Pt(II)1, 2-diaminocyclohexane complexes as the cisplatin analogues of palladium series. They were characterized by means of elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy. As a result, the dicarboxylate ligands were conformed to be chelated with Pd(II) within the scope studied. The stability differences beween the dicarboxylato complexes according to the chelate ring size could not be differentiated due to generally lower thermodynamic stability of the dicarboxylato Pd(II) complexes.

  • A new tridentate ligand incorporating a monoxime and thiosemi-carbozone moieties has been synthesized. Its copper(II), nickel(II) and palladium(II) complexes have been prepared and characteirzed by physical and spectral methods. Elemental analyses and spectroscopic data of the metal complexes are consistent with the formation of a mononuclear copper(II) complex and binuclear complex with both nickel(II) and palladium(II). In the copper(II) complex the fourth coordination site is occupied by nitrate ion. In the binculear complexes the fourth coordination site is occupied by the deprotonated oxime oxygen of the ligand coordinated to the other metal.

  • Reaction mechanism of palladium(0, II)-phosphines complexes catalyzed cyclocarbonylation for unsaturated carboxylic acid such as crotonic acid, methacrylic acid and 3-butenoic acid has been investigated by product analysis, molecular mechanics and extended Huckel molecular orbital method. Reaction of 3-butenoic acid with palladium(0, II)-phosphines catalyst gives palladium containing cycloester through intermediate palladium-olefin ${\pi}$ -complex in the catalytic carbonylation. Palladium(0, II)-phosphines complexes catalyze the cyclocarbonylation of 3-butenoic acid to give 3-methylsuccinic anhydride and glutaric anhydride. But ${\pi}$ -complexes with palladium(0, II)-phosphines and unsaturated carboxylic acids such as crotonic acid and methacrylic acid are not effective the catalytic cyclocarbonylation.

  • The synthesis and characterization of the nitrile ligands 3,4,5-tridodecyloxy benzonitrile (7) and 3,4,5-trioctadecyloxy benzonitrile (8), and their corresponding palladium(Ⅱ) complexes are described. The nitrile ligands display only a crystalline phase and do not show liquid crystalline behavior, while their corresponding palladium(Ⅱ) complexes dispaly an enantiotropic columnar mesophase. The induction of the columnar mesophase is mainly due to dimerization through the palladium complexation of the half disk-like nitrile ligands giving rise to a trans square planar geometry.

  • Mixtures of cyano complexes of palladium(II) and platinum(II) were separated by capillary electrophoresis using a fused silica capillary as a separation column and 30 mM phosphate buffer (pH 7) containing 15 wt. % acetonitrile as a running buffer. By virtue of the high ionic mobilities of the negatively charged cyano complexes of Pd(II) and Pt(II), they were separated using a cathodic injection and anodic detection scheme. The metal complexes eluted through the capillary were detected by direct UV absorption at 214 nm. A linear relationship between peak area and concentration was obtained for both ions and the detection limit was lower than $10^{-14}$ mole. The proposed method was applied to real sample, e.g., anode slime obtained from an electrolytic copper refinary, as a method for the simultaneous determination of palladium and platinum.

  • Metallacyclodimeric complexes of $[(Me_4en)Pd(L)]_2(ClO_4)_4$ ($Me_4en$ = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine; L = dimethylbis(4-pyridyl)silane (dmps), methylvinylbis(4-pyridyl)silane (mvps)) have been synthesized, and their structures have been characterized by X-ray single crystallography. The skeletal structures consist of one 20-membered metallamacrocycle, two 5-membered metallacycles, and four pyridyl groups. The local geometry around the palladium(II) ion approximates to a typical square planar arrangement with four nitrogen donors. Delicate difference in catalytic effects on hydrogenation was investigated based on the structure of catalyst and substrates.

  • Several new palladium(II) complexes of aminophosphines, $(Pd(L)X_2)$, (L = $Ph_2PNH$ ++ $NR_2$; R = $CH_3(L_1)$, $C_2H_5(L_2)$ : X = Cl, Br, I, and NCS) that contain two different donor atoms of nitrogen and phosphorus as ${\pi}$-electron acceptor, were synthesized and characterized by conductivity measurement, ir, and UV/Vis-spectra. For the dithiocyanatopalladium(II) complexes with aminophosphines, it was confirmed that the thiocyanate group trans to phosphorus is coordinated as Pd-NCS mode and the one trans to nitrogen as Pd-SCN mode, and the aminophosphines form six-membered chelate ring. The spectra of dihalogenopalladium(II) complexes with aminophosphines show that the band maxima are shifted to the short wavelengths as the concentration is decreased.

  • Isonitrosobenzoylacetone is particularly interesting, as the isonitroso group has two potentially coordinating sites which can compete with the cabonyl groups in forming bonds with the metal ions. In this paper tris(isonitrosobenzoylacetonato)cobalt(III) and bis(isonitrosobenzoylacetonato)palladium(II) have been prepared, and their structures have been investigated. Spectroscopic studies lead to the conclusion that the both complexes do not contain an OH group in the chelated five-membered ring structure in which the ligand coordinates to metal through oxygen of the acetyl group and nitrogen of the isonitroso group. The coordination manner of this ligand is similar to that of isonitrosobenzoylacetone obtained by Patel and Haldar.

  • Novel palladium (II) complexes, $[Pd((ieaa)_2-en)]$ and [PdCl((ieaa)-l-pn)] ($(ieaa)_2-en)]$ and (ieaa)-l-pn denote N,N'-ethylenebis(isonitrosoethylacetoacetate imine) and l-N-(2-aminopropyl)-isonitrosoethylacetoacetate imine, respectively), have been prepared. The palladium (II) complexes were characterized on the bases of the electronic absorption, circular dichroism (CD), $^{13}C$ NMR, infrared, and Raman spectra. The reaction of palladium(II) cliloride and isonitrosoethylacetoacetate (ieaa) with methylenediamine gives an $(ieaa)_2-en)]$ type Schiff base, while similar reaction using l-propylenediamine instead of ethylenediamine gives an (ieaa)-l-pn type Schiff base. The difference in formation is discussed from the stereochemical viewpoint of the diamine employed.
