Background: Several factors contribute to shoulder pain, including abnormal neck posture, repeated use of the upper limbs, work involving raising the upper limbs above the head, and the effects of vibration. However, previous study has reported that constant vibration exposure could impact improvement of the stability on joints related with muscle recruitment and activation. For this difference reason, we need to verify for the complex study of relationship with repetitive upper limb movements, poor head posture, and constant vibration exposure. Objects: Our study was made to investigate the influence of vibration exposure on the shoulder muscle activity during forward-head and over-head tasks with isometric shoulder flexion. Methods: In a total of 22 healthy subjects, surface electromyography (EMG) data were collected from shoulder muscles (upper/lower trapezius, serratus anterior, and lumbar erector spinae) on tasks (neutral-head task [NHT], forward-head task [FHT], and over-head task [OHT]) with and without vibration exposure. Results: In all tasks, the EMG data of the upper trapezius and serratus anterior significantly increased with vibration exposure (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the EMG data of the lumbar erector spinae significantly increased with vibration exposure in the NHT and FHT (p < 0.05). Conclusion: We suggest that continuous vibration exposure during the use of hand-held tools in the tasks could be associated with harmful effects in the workplace. Lastly, we clinically need to examine the guidelines regarding the optimal posture and vibration exposure.

Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the record completeness of the nursing process in the Electronic Nursing Record(ENR) in a university hospital. Methods: We compared nursing statements documented in 2004 with those from the year 2007, given the fact that the ENR system had been utilized since 2004. The ENRs of 35 gastrectomy patients in each year were selected for evaluation. The selected data were 11,822 nursing statements in 2004 and 27,870 in 2007. Results: The number of nursing records which documented the whole nursing process completely was 4,010 (48.3%) in 2007, whereas 513 (5.9%) in 2004 (p<.001). The number of incomplete records in 2004 was 8,142 (94.1%), while 4,300 (51.7%) in 2007 (p<.001). The number of nursing diagnoses was 846 in 2004 and 4,313 in 2007, which increased in number more than 5 times. The most frequently used diagnoses were 'pain', 'risk for infection' and 'risk for ileus' in both years. Conclusion: There was a significant increase in the record completeness on nursing process in 2007 compared to the records in 2004. The reasons for this increase are attributed to nurse training for encouraging to complete recording and nursing record auditing.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the immediate effects of weight-assisting methods on vastus medialis oblique (VMO) and vastus lateralis (VL) muscle activation, on the VMO/VL muscle activation ratio, and on muscle onset time in healthy subjects when ascending stairs. Methods: Healthy participants were randomly assigned to the belt group (n = 11), hand group (n = 11), and control group (n = 11). In the belt group, a belt was wrapped around the sacrum and pulled forward with both hands, moving the center of weight forward, while ascending stairs. The hand group grasped the hips with both hands and climbed stairs, assisting their weight from the rear and moving the center of weight backward, and the control group climbed the stairs without any intervention. Results: Muscle activation of the VMO decreased significantly after the intervention in the belt and hand groups, and activation of the VL muscle in both groups showed a greater decrease than that of the VMO muscle. Further, the VMO/VL muscle activation ratio increased significantly, with an improvement shown in the order of the belt group, hand group, and control group, while muscle onset time also improved in the order of the belt group, hand group, and control group. Conclusion: The belt group demonstrated the greatest effect across all dependent variables, confirming that in clinical practice, these two weight-assisting methods are more effective interventions during stair ascent for patients with knee joint instability, pain, and imbalance than no assistance.
Purpose: Whiplash-associated disorder is often caused by external impact, such as a car accident, and it involves acceleration and deceleration of the flexion and extension of the neck. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the combination of cyrotherapy and a joint mobilization intervention in patients with acute whiplash-associated disorder is effective for pain, cervical range of motion (ROM), and muscle tone in the neck muscles. Methods: In this study, 20 patients with acute whiplash-associated disorder were randomly assigned to two groups. Group A was treated with cyrotherapy for 5 minutes, while group B was treated with cyrotherapy and a joint mobilization intervention. In both groups, visual analogue scale (VAS), neck disability index (NDI), cervical ROM, and muscle tone values were measured pre- and post-intervention. Results: According to the VAS values, both groups showed significant differences pre- and post-intervention (p<0.05), and in both groups, NDI was significantly decreased pre- and post-intervention (p<0.05). Finally, in terms of muscle tone, both groups showed significant changes before and after the intervention (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results showed that cryotherapy and joint mobilization can be effective interventions in patients with whiplash-associated disorder. In addition, to improve the ROM of the cervical joint and reduce NDI, the combination of cryotherapy and joint mobilization is considered more effective than the single intervention of cryotherapy.

Objectives: An ectopic tooth is a rare eruption of a tooth out of the normal dental apparatus and occurs commonly with the third molar. Thus, in this study, we reported a case series of ectopic teeth in rare jaw locations and highlight the associated pathology and our experience in the surgical management. Patients and Methods: All cases of ectopic tooth managed at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020 were reviewed. The information retrieved includes biodata, location of the ectopic tooth, signs, symptoms, type of tooth and associated pathology, surgical approach and complications. Results: Ten cases of ectopic teeth were identified over the study period. This comprised 80.0% males with a mean age was 23.3 years. The antrum and lower border of the mandible accounted for 50.0% and 40.0% of the ectopic locations, respectively. Dentigerous cyst was the most associated pathology (70%) and usually presented with pain and swelling. Surgical intervention predominantly via the intraoral route was performed if indicated. Conclusion: Ectopic teeth are rare and not always associated with pathology. A high index of suspicion and radiological investigation are necessary for diagnosis. A more extensive multi-center study is however recommended to determine the prevalence of ectopic teeth other than the third molar.

This study aims to analyze the relationship with oral health status through oral examinations, microorganism tests, and surveys of college students and present basic data necessary for the development of oral health education programs to prevent. Results of students who did not receive brushing education showed high motile activities of microorganism, and there was a significant relationship in which students with a large amount of microorganism subjectively felt more tooth pain. Symptoms of halitosis were greater in the DT, there were differences in the type of bacteria and the amount of bacteria in the MT, and oral health was worse if oral aids were not used in the DMFT index. Therefore, it was confirmed that oral health behavior, subjective oral health awareness, and the amount of microorganism had a significant relationship with oral health status. It will be necessary to develop and share and spread customized oral health education media for each life cycle.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare concurrent validity and test-retest reliability based on Craniovertebral angle of 'Angles video goniometer', a smart phone application for convenient range of motion measurement, and 'Image J', an analysis software with high reliability and validity. This was conducted to find out whether 'Angle video goniometer' can be used clinically. Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: Fifty subjects were imaged laterally, and the angle of the head and spine was measured using Image J and the Angles video goniometer, respectively, in a resting posture and a chin in posture. The level of concurrent validity between the two measurement methods and the level of inter-rater reliability and intra-rater reliability were analyzed. Results: For forty participants, the concurrent validity between Image J and Angles video goniometer showed very high validity with ICC of 0.997(0.995~0.999) and 0.994(0.994~0.998), CVME% 0.71~0.72%, SEM% 0.31~0.34, MDC% 0.86~0.94. The test-retest intra-rater reliability showed very high reliability ICC 0.994(0.991~0.996), CVME% 0.71%, SEM% 0.31~0.43, MDC% 0.86~1.19%. The test-retest inter-rater showed very high reliability ICC 0.995(0.992~0.997), CVME% 0.71%, SEM% 0.43~0.59%, MDC% 1.20~1.62% Conclusions: Angles video goniometer', a smartphone application, is a device with very high reliability and validity for craniovertebral angle measurement in healthy adults, and it is a device that can be easily used in clinical practice.

Hemorrhagic cystitis refers to massive inflammation and the diffuse vesical bleeding of the bladder. In patients with hematuria complaining of dysuria and pain, it is necessary to differentiate various causes, including cystitis, nephritis, and prostatitis. After the diagnosis of hemorrhagic cystitis, antibiotics usually treat and prevent further urinary tract infections. In the present case, a 78-year-old female patient with hemorrhagic cystitis presenting with hematuria underwent Korean medical treatment with Jeoryeong-tang-hap-Samul-tang for 29 days. The effect of the treatment was assessed with the hematuria grading scale (HGS) per week, urinalysis per two weeks, and the NRS (numeric rating scale) of dysuria per day. After treatment, both HGS and NRS scores decreased, and protein, blood, and red blood cells (RBCs) in urinalysis improved. This case report suggests that Jeoryeong-tang-hap-Samul-tang might be an effective option for hemorrhagic cystitis patients who continuously take antiplatelets.
With the recent development of industrial technology, the problem of odor due to leakage of toxic gas discharged from industrial complexes is gradually increasing. Among them, hydrogen sulfide is a colorless representative odorous substance that can cause pain through irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes and respiratory tract, and is a gas that can cause central nervous system paralysis and suffocation when exposed to high concentrations. Therefore, in order to improve the odor problem, research on a gas sensor capable of quickly and reliably detecting a leak of hydrogen sulfide is being actively conducted. A lot of research has been done on the existing metal oxide-based hydrogen sulfide gas sensor, but it has the disadvantage of requiring low selectivity and high temperature operating conditions. Therefore, in this study, a Pt/CNT-based electrochemical hydrogen sulfide gas sensor capable of detecting at low temperatures with high selectivity for hydrogen sulfide was developed. A working electrode capable of selectively detecting only hydrogen sulfide was fabricated by synthesizing Pt nanoparticles as a catalyst on functionalized CNT and applied to an electrochemical hydrogen sulfide gas sensor. It was confirmed that the manufactured Pt/CNT-based electrochemical hydrogen sulfide gas sensor has a current change of up to 100uA for hydrogen sulfide, and the both response time and recovery time were within 15 seconds.
Background: Recent animal studies have suggested the role of GABA type A (GABA-A) receptors in salivation, showing that GABA-A receptor agonists inhibit salivary secretion. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of propofol (a GABA-A agonist) on salivary secretions from the submandibular, sublingual, and labial glands during intravenous sedation in healthy volunteers. Methods: Twenty healthy male volunteers participated in the study. They received a loading dose of propofol 6 mg/kg/h for 10 min, followed by 3 mg/kg/h for 15 min. Salivary flow rates in the submandibular, sublingual, and labial glands were measured before, during, and after propofol infusion, and amylase activity was measured in the saliva from the submandibular and sublingual glands. Results: We found that the salivary flow rates in the submandibular, sublingual, and labial glands significantly decreased during intravenous sedation with propofol (P < 0.01). Similarly, amylase activity in the saliva from the submandibular and sublingual glands was significantly decreased (P < 0.01). Conclusion: It can be concluded that intravenous sedation with propofol decreases salivary secretion in the submandibular, sublingual, and labial glands via the GABA-A receptor. These results may be useful for dental treatment when desalivation is necessary.
