  • In this paper, we propose a packet loss concealment (PLC) algorithm using pitch harmonic motion prediction and adaptive signal amplitude prediction and. The spectral motion prediction method divides the spectral motion of the previous usable frame into predetermined sub-bands to predict and restore the motion of the lost signal. In the proposed algorithm, the speech signal is classified into voiced and unvoiced sounds. In the case of voiced sounds, it is further divided into pitch harmonics using the pitch frequency to predict and restore the pitch harmonic motion of the lost frame, and for the unvoiced sound, the lost frame is restored using the spectral motion prediction method. When the continuous loss of speech frames occurs, a method of adjusting the gain using the least mean square (LMS) predictor is proposed. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated through the objective evaluation method, PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality) and was showed MOS 0.1 improvement over the conventional method.

  • In the traditional wireless LAN model, scan procedure to search a new AP starts when the predefined number of Rx failure of beacon frames are occurred. In this case, lots of data packet loss occur during MN's handover because loss of the relatively longer data packet starts before the small-sized beacon loss. Newly developed scanning mechanism in this paper has the beacon counter that increases when the Rx power level of beacon frame is less than the threshold and the previous rx power level. New scan procedure starts when the counter exceeds the predefined number. Beacon Rx power threshold is verified and performance of the new WLAN model is evaluated under UDP and TCP traffic environment.

  • Wireless mesh network is flexible network like Ad hoc network or bluetooth together based on base station. But, wireless mesh network shows high packet loss and when TCP was created, however as it was design based on wired link, wireless link made more transmission error than wired link. It is existent problem of TCP congestion control algorithm that TCP unfairness and congestion collapse over wireless mesh network. When TCP operation occurs with the packet loss where is not the congestion loss, it brings the performance degradation which is serious. In this paper, in order to improve efficient TCP congestion control algorithm in wireless mesh network, we proposed that TCP can adaptively regulate the congestion window in wireless link.

  • In mobile ad hoc networks, packet loss is unavoidable due to MAC contention, link failure or the inherent characteristics of wireless link. Since TCP relies on the timely reception of TCP ACK packets to progress the transmission of the TCP DATA packets, ACK loss obviously affects the performance due to two main problems: (a) Frequent occurrence of spurious retransmissions caused by timeout events and (b) impairment of the fast retransmit mechanism caused by the lack of a sufficient number of duplicate ACK packets. In particular, since most reactive routing protocols force the packets buffered over a path to be discarded while performing a route recovery, the performance degradation becomes more serious due to such ACK loss. In this paper, therefore, TCP with two piggybacking schemes (called TCP-pgy) is proposed in order to resolve the above-mentioned problems over reactive routing protocols. Through extensive simulations using the ns-2 simulator, we prove that our proposed schemes contribute to TCP performance improvements.

  • Snoop protocol is one of the efficient schemes to compensate TCP packet loss and enhance TCP throughput in wired-cum-wireless networks. However, Snoop protocol has a problem; it cannot perform local retransmission efficiently under the bursty-error prone wireless link. In this paper, we propose Enhanced Snoop(E-Snoop) protocol to solve this problem of Snoop protocol. With E-Snoop protocol, packet losses can be noticed by receiving new ACK packets as well as by receiving duplicate ACK packets or local retransmission timeout. Therefore, TCP throughput can be enhanced by fast recognition of bursty packet losses and fast local retransmissions. From the simulation results, E-Snoop protocol can improve TCP throughput more efficiently than Snoop protocol and can yield more TCP improvement especially in the channel with high packet loss rates.

  • Optical packet switching(OPS) is a strong candidate for the next-generation internet, since it has a fine switching granularity at the packet level for providing flexible bandwidth, and provides seamless integration between WDM layer and IP layer. Optical packet switching have been studied in two categories: OPS in synchronous and OPS in asynchronous networks. In this article we are focused on contention resolution of OPS in asynchronous networks. The hybrid buffer have been addressed, to reduce packet loss further as one of the alternative buffer structures for contention resolution of asynchronous and variable length packets, which consists of the FDL buffer and the electronic buffer. The OPS design issue for the limited number of TWCs and internal wavelengths is important in the aspect of switch cost and resource efficiency. Therefore, an hybrid buffer structured optical packet switch and its scheduling algorithm is presented for considering the limited number of TWCs and internal wavelengths, for contention resolution of asynchronous and variable length packets. The proposed algorithm could lead to the packet loss improvement compared to the legacy LAUC-VF algorithm with only the FDL buffer.

  • This paper investigates the issue of efficient reading for sensor data of semi-passive sensor tag. The Cold Chain management system requires complete sensor data without data loss and the short processing time of reading sensor tag data. However, reading the sensed data could be interfered by RF environment such as a jamming, obstacle and so on. This study found that it could lead to loss of the sensed data and takes much time to read it when data loss is occurred. To solve this problem, we propose the transaction processing mechanism that guarantees efficient reading of the sensed data. To do this, we present the technique of dynamic packet size and technique of data recovery to execute read transaction. These techniques improve the reliability of reading operation as well as speed up of read process for the large capacity data. This paper contributes to the improvement of efficient reading of sensed data without any loss of data and large time required.

  • H.264 is the prominent video coding standard in various applications such as real-time video streaming and digital multimedia broadcasting, since it provides enhanced compression performance, error resilience tools, and network adaptation. Since compressed video stream is vulnerable to packet loss, error resilience and error concealment(EC) tools are essential for the transmission of video over the Internet. In this paper, we first propose a simple temporal EC method that improves the EC performance for intra-frame in H.264 when the amount of motion is relatively small. Then we propose a new hybrid EC method for intra-frame in H.264, which combines the spatial EC and temporal EC adaptively. The simulations are performed in packet-lossy environments, and the proposed hybrid EC method shows about 0.5-4dB PSNR improvement compared to the conventional spatial EC method that is used for intra-frame in H.264.

  • The binding update of MIPv6 which basically makes a route optimization lets MN bring about high signaling traffic, packet loss and delay. HMIPv6, which introduces the MAP protocol, makes the signaling traffic low, thereby reducing the packet losses and delay. However, it still has the same problem in MIPv6 in the case of macro mobility. This paper proposes HMIPv6 with the address insurance policy. It makes MAP prepare LCoA and RCoA before the macro handover happens. When it happens, MN is able to use them after the registration is done in the foreign network. The perormance can be improved because MAP is composed to assure the address in advance. In addition the MAP sends the BU message during the handover, thereby making the proposed scheme better. The simulation shows that the proposed scheme is about 33% shorter than HMIPv6 in the handover delay and about 22% less than FMIPv6 in the packet loss.

  • To prevent the performance degradation of TCP due to packet loss in the smooth handoff by the route optimization extension of Mobile If protocol, a buffering of packets at a base station is needed. A buffering of packets at a base station recovers the packets dropped during the handoff by forwarding the buffered packets at the old base station to the mobile user. But, when the mobile user moves to a new foreign network which is connected to a congested router, the buffered packets forwarded by the old base station are dropped and the link utilization performance degraded due to increased congestion by the forwarded packets. In this paper, when the mobile user moves to a new foreign network which is connected to a congested router, Ive propose a packet forwarding control scheme required far the old base station to improve TCP performance in mobile networks. The old base station forwards or discards the buffered packets during handoff by proposed packet forwarding control scheme based on congestion states of RED(Random Early Detection) at the congested router. Simulation results slow that link utilization performance can be improved by applying proposed packet forwarding control scheme.
