During handling unitized products, they are subjected to a variety of environmental hazards. Shock and vibration hazards are generally considered the most damaging of the environmental hazards on a product and it may encounter while passing through the distribution environment. A major cause of shock damage to products is drops during manual handling. The increasing use of unitization of pallets has been resulted in a reduction of the shock hazards. This has caused an increasing interest in research focused on vibration caused dam age. Damage to the product by the vibration most often occurs when a product or a product component has a natural frequency that falls within the range of the forcing frequencies of the particular mode of transportation being used. Transportation vibration is also a major cause of fruit and vegetable quality loss due to mechanical damage. This study was conducted to determine the vibration characteristics of the corrugated fiberboard bones for packages of pears, and to investigate the degree of vibration injury of the pears in the boxes during the simulated transportation environment. The vibration tests were performed on an electrohydraulic vibration exciter. The input acceleration to exciter was fixed at 0.25 G for a single container resonance test and 0.5 G for the vertical stacked container over the frequency range from 3 to 100 Hz. Function generator (HP-33120A) was connected by wire to the vibration exciter for controlling the input acceleration at a continuous logarithmic sweep rate of 1.0 octave per min. The peak frequency and acceleration on the single box test were 22.02 Hz, 1.5425 G respectively, and these values on the vertical stacked boxes were observed from the bottom box 19.02, 18.14, 16.62 and 15.40 Hz and 2.2987, 3.7654. 5.6087, and 7.9582 G, respectively. The pear in the bottom box had a slightly higher damage level than the fruit packed in the other stacked boxes. It is desirable that the package and transportation system has to be so designed that 15∼20 Hz frequency will not occur during the transportation environment.
As the percentage of the elderly in the population increases, research to identify the nutritional and health status of the elderly, to understand the factors influencing on them, and to delay aging have been done actively. It is necessary for these studies to be longitudinal. This study was carried out to assess the change of health-related habits such as dietary behaviors and smoking, alcohol drinking and exercising habit, and health status between previous study(1991/1994) and post study(1998) for middle-aged men and women living in Chonju. For the present study, the data of 63 pairs(23 men and 40 women) were analyzed. They were 11 men and 12 women followed up from 82 men and 100 women surveyed in 1994. Mean ages in the 1991/4 and 1998 studies were 53.6y(range 42-63y) and 59.0y(range 46-72y) respectively. The survey was conducted with interview using a questionnaire including dietary behaviors and health-related habits, and anthropometric measurement and blood test for analyzing biochemical indices in 1991/4 and 1998. To understand these changes over time, $\chi$$^2$-statistics, t-test and paired t-test were analyzed with an SAS package program. As people age, there were significantly decreases in the proportions to eat lightly salted foods and drink alcohol. Significant longitudinal increases in triceps skin fold thickness, ${\gamma}$-GPT and HDL-cholesterol and significant decrease in hemoglobin value were noted over time in both men and women. In addition a significant decrease in blood glucose level was noted over time in women. Weight, blood glucose and total cholesterol increased significantly with age in those had had breakfast regularly or those had not used more slat at the table in the past. From this study, were found out the subjects of this study had relatively desirable health-related habits. But as improper health-related habits are likely to result in inappropriate health status(eg, increase in WHR, triglyceride, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol), it is recommended that nutrition education in necessary as soon as possible to meet the health elderly.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the storage and cooking of eggs in addition to the purchase of special eggs. This survey was tarried out through questionnaire and subjects were 429 housewives whose children were middle or high school students in Kyunggi-do and Inchon. Most housewives began to purchase special eggs one year ago. When housewives purchased special eggs, the first consideration was in order of nutrition, freshness, price and preference. The higher housewives' education level was, the higher they took nutrition into consideration. More than half of housewives replied that the proper package of special eggs was 10 eggs or more, and perceived that the period between producers of eggs and consumers was less than 5 days. Most housewives did the freshness test by checking roughness of shell surface or the interior quality of egg yolk and white after purchase. Also most housewives stored eggs in the inside rack of refrigerator door. Most housewives served dishes made from eggs more than 2 or 3 times per week and perceived that soft-boiled eggs are foods easy of digestion. These results suggested that it is necessary to supply fresh and nutritious eggs and to develop various dishes made from eggs for quickly-prepared meals.
The purpose of this study was to determine the standard work time of dietetic staff through work sampling methodology in school flood service systems. Work measurement through work sampling methodology was conducted in five conventional, five commissary and five joint management flood service systems over two consecutive weeks in October 1999. Statistical analysis was performed on the SAS/Win 6.12 package program for Kruskal-Wallis test and multiple comparison. Observed data were satisfied with a confidence level of 95% and a confidence interval of $\pm$ 0.05. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. The actual time spent by dietetic staff members in conventional, commissary, joint-management flood servile systems was 2,394, 2,521 and 2,110 minutes per week, respectively. Transportation time of each flood service systeml and ILO allowance rate (11%) was applied. Thus, the standard work time per week of dietetic staff members in conventional, commissary, joint-management flood service systems was 2,746.14, 2,861.58 and 2,520.81 minutes, respectively. The standardized index was 1.04, 1.08 and 0.95 men in conventional, commissary, and joint-management flood service systems, respectively. Regardless of the school flood service system, those with "the duty of cooking and distribution management" had the longest labor time, while those with "duty of nutritional education" had the shortest labor time.

The purpose of this study was to develop plans for activating the 4-H clubs in Korea. Data for this study were collected from 125 members in 4-H clubs and 140 extension educators who participated in 4-H activity. Total of 265 responses were analyzed after data screening. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS) for Windows for the personal computer were used to analyze the data. Frequency, percentage, ANOVA, and LSD test for post-hoc interpretation were employed to analyze the data with a statistical significance level of .05. Based on the conclusions of this study, following recommendations were offered: To activate rural youth organizations, especially 4-H clubs in Korea the following measures should be included in the plans for activation; 1) To classify membership into student and non-student clubs to focus on the needs of active members; 2) To establish clear objectives for club activities; 3) To enhance field-oriented operation of clubs; 4) To develop various activity programs that members could be fascinated; 5) To promote subject matter specialists in order to support club activities effectively; and 6) To clarify functions and roles of extension service centers and non-governmental organizations in order to support club activites.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between general characteristics and the intention of overseas employment and job satisfaction by Korean dental hygienists. Methods : We conducted a survey of 562 dental hygienists working in dental clinics nationwide. Collected data were analyzed by using the SAS(Version 9.2, SAS Institute, Cary, N.C.) package. $x^2$ test was used to determine the general characteristics of the subjects including job satisfaction level and intention to work abroad. Results : Old aged dental hygienists tended to work in the country rather than abroad(p<0.05). Higher job satisfaction was closely related to working hours, monthly income, social status, and stability of employment(p<0.05). Job satisfaction was concerned with intention to overseas employment. The main purpose of overseas employment included economic benefits(35.99%), self realization(26.75%), and improvement of working condition(21.66%) in the group of overseas employment(p<0.05). The obstacles to overseas employment were mastery of language proficiency(60.94%) and related information(21.89%) in those who want to work abroad. Conclusions : In order to increase the number of Korean dental hygienists for overseas employment, it is necessary to improve working competence and job satisfaction.
This study aimed to find out how food styling (plating and the size of the dishes) can increase customer purchasing intention, and propose a marketing measure to increase revenue growth and boost image growth after examining perceptions of customers and their intention to purchase food according to the food styling of cream pasta, which is a type of western food item. SPSS 20.0 statistical package program was utilized to run the Paired t-test. As a result, consumers' awareness of the amount of food according to food styling indicated that the amount of food accompanied by vegetables and meat was perceived more than vegetables alone. Second, according to food styling (size of dishes), customers perceived that there was more food with smaller sized dishes. Therefore, in order to increase the level of satisfaction with the amount of food of the customers, it is recommended that the foods which display high calorie content are more highly visible. Moreover, customers' intention to purchase food as well as their perception of the amount of food could also be increased by adjusting the size of containers for food.
Paper angle, environment friendly packaging material, has been mainly used as an edge protector, But, in the future, paper angle will be applied to package design of heavy product such as strength reinforcement or unit load system (ULS). Therefore. understanding of buckling behavior fur angle itself, compression strength and quality standard are required. The objectives of this study were to characterize the buckling behavior by theoretical and finite element analysis, and to develop compression strength model by compression test for symetric and asymetric paper angle. Based on the result of theoretical and finite element analysis, as applied load level was bigger and/or the length of angle was longer, incresing rate of buckling of asymmetric paper angle was higher than that of symmetric paper angle. Decreasing rate of minimum principal moment of inertia significantly increased as the extent of asymmetric angle increased, and buckling orientation of angle was open- direction near the small web. Incresing rate of maximum compression strength (MCS) for thickness of angle decreased as the web size increased in symmetric angle. MCS of asymmetric angle of 43${\times}$57 and 33${\times}$67 decreased $15{\~}18\%$ and $65{\~}78\%$, and change of buckling increased $12{\~}13\%$ and $62{\~}66\%$, respectively.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self-esteem and the body cathexis on consumers' attitude in acceptance of fashion trends. The subjects were 460 women from in their 20's to 60's living in Daegu area. The scale for self-esteem and the body cathexis were used and self-report questionnaires were applied to measure the acceptance of fashion trends. The data were analysed by frequency, mean, factor analysis, ANOVA and Duncan-test using SPSS-package. The results were as follows. First, the results of analysing the factor of the response of acceptance of fashion trends identified three attitudes; 'active to fashion trends', 'passive to fashion trends' and 'unconcern to fashion trends'. Secondly, there were significant differences in the acceptance of fashion trends in accordance with an age. Thirdly, there were significant differences in the acceptance of fashion trends and clothing shopping orientation according to one's self-esteem and the body cathexis. It appeared that higher the level of self-esteem and the body cathexis predicts an 'active to fashion trend' attitude in acceptance of fashion trends.
Fruits are subjected to complex dynamic stresses in the transportation environment. During a long journey form the production area to markets, there is always some degree of vibration present. Vibration inputs are transmitted from the vehicle through the packaging to the fruit. Inside, these cause sustained bouncing of fruits against each other and container wall. These steady state vibration input may cause serious fruit injury, and this damage is particularly severe whenever the fruit inside the package is free to bounce, and is vibrated at its resonance frequency. The determination of the resonant frequencies of the fruit may help the packaging designer to determine the proper packaging system providing adequate protection for the fruit, and to understand the complex interaction between the components of fruit when they relate to expected transportation vibration inputs. The first frequency of the pear in packaged freight be stacked in resonance frequency band of the pear packaged freight was increased from the bottom to the top of the stack but the second frequency of that in resonance frequency band of the pear was decreased. This indicated that the high damage score of the pear in bottom tier in vibration test was due to higher acceleration level in resonance frequency band of the pear.
