  • In this paper, a digital current control system using a FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) was implemented, and the system was applied to an induction motor widely used as an industrial driving machine. The FPGA designed by VHDL(VHSIC Hardware Description Language) consists of a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) generation block, a PWM protection block, a speed measuring block, a watch dog timer block, an interrupt control block, a decoder logic block, a wait control block and digital input and output blocks respectively. Dedicated clock inputs on the FPGA were used for high-speed execution, and an up-down counter and a latch block were designed in parallel, in order that the triangle wave could be operated at 40 MHz clock. When triangle wave is compared with many registers respectively, gate delay occurs from excessive fan-outs. To reduce the delay, two triangle wave registers were implemented in parallel. Amplitude and frequency of the triangle wave, and dead time of PWM could be changed by software. This FPGA was synthesized by pASIC 2SpDE and Synplify-Lite synthesis tool of Quick Logic company. The final simulation for worst cases was successfully performed under a Verilog HDL simulation environment. And the FPGA programmed for an 84 pin PLCC package was applied to digital current control system for 3-phase induction motor. The digital current control system of the 3 phase induction motor was configured using the DSP(TMS320C31-40 MHz), FPGA, A/D converter and Hall CT etc., and experimental results showed the effectiveness of the digital current control system.

  • In wireless smart phone charging scenario, the transmitter pad is larger than the size of the receiver pad. Thus, it is important to supply a constant power to the receiver regardless of its location. In this paper, we propose a new method to regulate the receiver's power by adjusting a drain bias of class E power amplifier. The proposed LF-band wireless power transfer system is as follows: a buck converter power supply which is controlled by a pulse width modulation(PWM) IC TL494, a class E amplifier using a low cost IRF510 power MOSFET, a transmitter coil whose dimension is $16cm{\times}18cm$, a receiver coil whose dimension is $6cm{\times}8cm$, and a full bridge rectifier using Schottky diodes. A measured performance show a maximum output power of 4 W and system efficiency of 67 % if we fix the bias voltage. If we adjust the bias voltage, the received power can be maintained at a constant power of 2 W regardless of receiver pad location.

  • This paper presents a SPMSM(Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) servo drive system using high performance TMS320F2812 DSP for the industrial application. The DSP(Digital Signal Processor) Controller enables an enhanced real time algorithm and cost-effective design intelligent for only exclusively motor drives which can be yield enhanced operation, fewer system components, lower control system cost, increased efficiency and high performance. The suggested system contain speed and current sensing circuits, SVPWM(Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation) and I/O interface circuit. The developed servo drive control system showns a good response characteristics results and high performance features in general purposed 400[w] machine. This system can achieve cost reduction and size minimization of controllers.

  • Recently, when a fault occurs at a long-distance point in a LVDC (low voltage direct current) distribution feeder in a light rail system, the magnitude of the current can decrease to less than that of the load current of a light rail system. Therefore, proper protection coordination method to distinguish a fault current from a load current is required. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes an optimal algorithm of protection devices for a LVDC distribution feeder in a light rail system. In other words, based on the characteristics of the fault current for ground resistance and fault location, this paper proposes an optimal operation algorithm of a selective relay to properly identify the fault current compared to the load current in a light rail system. In addition, this paper modelled the distribution system including AC/DC converter using a PSCAD/EMTDC S/W and from the simulation results for a real light rail system, the proposed algorithm was found to be a useful and practical tool to correctly identify the fault current and load current.
