Analysis on uncertainty in Probable Maximum Precipitation estimation with the pseudo-adiabatic assumption (위단열 가정을 기반한 가능최대강수량 산정의 불확실성 분석)

  • 본 연구는 수분최대화방법(Moisture-maximizing method)를 기반으로 PMP(Probable Maximum Precipitation)을 산정하는 방법론을 평가하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 수분최대화 방법은 특정 호우사상의 대기 수분 조건을 극대화하여 PMP 를 산정한다. 여기서, 대기 수분 조건은 대기 표면부터 상층부의 총 수분량으로부터 얻어지는 가강수량(Precipitable water, PW)으로 표현된다. PW 는 라디오존데로부터 직접 관측 및 수집되지만, 장기간 수집이 어렵고, 수집된 자료는 다수의 이상치 및 결측치를 포함한다. 이에 따라, WMO(World Meteorological Organization)에서는 표면 이슬점을 이용하여 위단열 가정(Pseudo-adiabatic assumption)하에PW 를 간접적으로 산정하는 방법론을 기반한 PMP 산정을 권고한다. 본 연구는 일본의 다수의 지역을 대상으로 실제 PW 를 이용하는 방법과 표면 이슬점을 이용하는 방법을 기반으로 산정된 수분최대화방법의 변수들의 편차를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 따듯한 기후 특성을 나타내는 일본의 남부지역은 두 방법의 편차가 매우 작았지만, 추운 기후 특성을 나타내는 일본의 북부지역은 표면 이슬점으로 산정된 PW 가 실제 PW 에 비해 과소 산정되어 PMP 를 과대 산정시켰다. 특히, 이불확실성은 호우 발생 시 표면 이슬점이 18℃ 이하일 때, 두드러지게 나타났다. 본 연구는 이불확실성을 밝히기 위해 실제 라디오존데로부터 관측된 대기 상층부의 대기 프로파일 검토하였다. 그 결과, 표면에서 가까운 대기 상층부의 위치에서 불규칙적으로 이슬점이 증가하는 패턴을 나타냈지만, 위단열 가정은 이를 묘사하기 어려웠다. 이는 결국 실제 PW 에 비해 이슬점을 이용하여 산정된 PW 가 과소 산정되는 결과로 이어졌다. 결과적으로, 호우 발생 시 표면 이슬점이 18℃ 이하로 낮은 지역에서 산정된 PW 를 적용하는 수분최대화방법으로 산정된 PMP 는 낮은 신뢰도를 나타낸다.

  • In DS/CDMA system the number of output signal levels increases as multi-channel signals are summed, hence the power amplifier with high linearity is required. PW/CDMA is a transmission technique that performs pulse width modulation on the multilevel signal synthesized from multiple channel data. In PW/CDMA system the signal level is maintained to be binary, hence the modulation and demodulation circuits become simple. In this paper we derive the probability of bit error of the PW/CDMA system in AWGN environment. The results are compared with DS/CDMA system and are verified through the computer simulations.

Acid Tolerance of the Acid-Resistant Mutant of Leuconostoc paramesenteroides Improved for Kimchi Starter. (김치 Starter용으로 개량된 Leuconostoc paramesenteroides의 내산성 변이주가 갖는 내산성 특성)

  • To investigate the increased acid tolerance of a acid-resistant mutant Leuconostoc paramesenteroides P-100 improved as a kimchi starter, proton permeability, ATPase acitivity, glycolysis activity, $Mg^2$sup +/ releasement, and membrane fatty acid composition were studied and comprised with its wild type Leuconostoc paramesenteroides Pw. In the proton permeability experiment, the maximum values of the average half time (t$\_$1/2/) of pH equilibration through the cell membrane of the Pw and the P-100 were about 6.4 min and 7.8 min in 150 mM KCI solution, respectively. In the 3% NaCl solution, the t$\_$1/2/ values of the Pw and the P-100 were 5.5 min and 6.9 min, respectively. The values and pHs of maximal specific activities of ATPase originated from the Pw and the P-100 were 0.5 unit/mg protein and 0.78 unit/mg protein at pH 6.0, respectively. The result of pH dependence of glycolysis showed that the P-100 had higher activities than that of Pw except at pH 7.0. The releases of magnesium from the Pw and the P-100 were observed about 54.5% and 23.2% at pH 4.0 after 2 hours, respectively. The results of comparison of membrane fatty acid composition of the Pw with the P-100 showed that C$\_$8:0/, C$\_$9:0/, C$\_$10:0/, C$\_$11:0/, C$\_$18:0/, and C$\_$19:0,cyclo/ were major different fatty acids between two strains and the content of C$\_$18:1/, and C$\_$19:0,cyclo/ were 2.8%, N.D (not detected) in the Pw and 0.4%, 2.3% in the P-100. These results indicated that acid tolerance of the P-100 was significantly improved in comparison with its wild type Pw.

Association Between Cohabitation Status and Sleep Quality in Families of Persons With Dementia in Korea: A Cross-sectional Study

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify the association between cohabitation status and sleep quality in family members of people with dementia (PwDs). Methods: Data of 190 365 participants aged ≥19 years from the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey were analyzed. Participants were categorized according to their cohabitation status with PwDs. Multiple logistic regression and ordinal logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the relationship between the cohabitation status of PwDs' relatives and sleep quality measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and PSQI subscales. Results: Compared to participants without PwDs in their families, both cohabitation and non-cohabitation with PwDs were associated with poor sleep quality (cohabitation, male: odds ratio [OR],1.28; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.08 to 1.52; female: OR, 1.40; 95% CI, 1.20 to 1.64; non-cohabitation, male: OR, 1.14; 95% CI, 1.05 to 1.24; female: OR, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.14 to 1.33). In a subgroup analysis, non-cohabiting family members showed the highest odds of experiencing poor sleep quality when the PwD lived alone (male: OR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.14 to 1.91; female: OR, 1.58; 95% CI, 1.24 to 2.01). Cohabiting male and female participants had higher odds of poor subjective sleep quality and use of sleeping medications than non-cohabiting male and female participants, respectively. Conclusions: The residence of PwDs and cohabitation status may contribute to poor sleep quality among PwDs' family members. The circumstances faced by cohabiting and non-cohabiting family members should be considered when evaluating sleep quality in family members of PwDs, and appropriate interventions may be needed to improve sleep quality in both cohabiting and non-cohabiting family members.

Assessment of solid components of borderline ovarian tumor and stage I carcinoma: added value of combined diffusion- and perfusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging

  • Background: We sought to determine the value of combining diffusion-weighted (DW) and perfusion-weighted (PW) sequences with a conventional magnetic resonance (MR) sequence to assess solid components of borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) and stage I carcinomas. Methods: Conventional, DW, and PW sequences in the tumor imaging studies of 70 patients (BOTs, n=38; stage I carcinomas, n=32) who underwent surgery with pathologic correlation were assessed. Two independent radiologists calculated the parameters apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), $K^{trans}$ (vessel permeability), and $V_e$ (cell density) for the solid components. The distribution on conventional MR sequence and mean, standard deviation, and 95% confidence interval of each DW and PW parameter were calculated. The inter-observer agreement among the two radiologists was assessed. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and multivariate logistic regression were performed to compare the effectiveness of DW and PW sequences for average values and to characterize the diagnostic performance of combined DW and PW sequences. Results: There were excellent agreements for DW and PW parameters between radiologists. The distributions of ADC, $K^{trans}$, and $V_e$ values were significantly different between BOTs and stage I carcinomas, yielding AUCs of 0.58 and 0.68, 0.78 and 0.82, and 0.70 and 0.72, respectively, with ADC yielding the lowest diagnostic performance. The AUCs of the DW, PW, and combined PW and DW sequences were $0.71{\pm}0.05$, $0.80{\pm}0.05$, and $0.85{\pm}0.05$, respectively. Conclusion: Combining PW and DW sequences to a conventional sequence potentially improves the diagnostic accuracy in the differentiation of BOTs and stage I carcinomas.

  • As the development of Internet technology, the number of IDs managed by each individuals has been increased. And many software development institutes have developed ID/PW management solutions to facilitate secure and convenient management of ID/PW. However, these solutions also can be vulnerable in case of administrator's password exposure. Thus, we need to derive security requirements from the vulnerability analysis of these solutions, also we need evaluation criteria for secure ID/PW management solution development. In this paper, we analyze the vulnerability of ID/PW management solution and propose the evaluation criteria for secure ID/PW management solution.

Evaluation and Intercomparisons of the Estimated TOVS Precipitable Waters for the Tropical Plume (Tropical Plume 에 대한 TOVS 추정 가강수량의 평가와 상호비교)

  • Precipitable Water(PW) are retrieved over the tropical and subtropical Pacific Ocean from TOVS infrared and microwave channel brightness temperature and OLR observations by means of stepwise linear regression. The retrieved TOVS PW fields generated by PW$_{sfc}$(71.1 % of the variance and 0.62 g cm$^{-2}$ standard error over the surface) and PW$_{700500}$(71.7 % and 0.17 g cm$^{-2}$ over the 700 - 500 hPa layer) revealed more evolving synoptic signals over the tropical and subtropical Pacific Ocean. The PW$_{sfc}$ dose not show significantly the TP feature because of the representation of the lower PW for high-level clouds not associated with deep convection. There exists some elusion to trace the TP on the PW$_{sfc}$ field if any supplementary information does not provide. But ECMWF analysis has a general tendency of drying the subtropics and moistening the ITCZ (InterTropical Convergence Zone) and SPCZ(South Pacific Convergence Zone). However, although ECMWF analysis is fairly successful in capturing mean patterms, it is unsuccessful in following active synoptic signal like a tropical plume. Similarly, SMMR-PW does not represent the TP well which consists of the highand middle-level clouds, but PW$_{sfc}$ shows underestimated moistness of TP and does not depict significant signal of TP. In the PW field derived from microwave observations, the TP can not be recognized well. Furthermore, the signature of PW$_{sfc}$ was different from OLR for the TP, which implies the presence of high- and middle-layer thin clouds, but in a closer agreement for deep and active convection areas which contain thick middle- and lower-layer clouds; though OLR represented the cloudiness in the tropics well. In synoptically active regions, it differed from OLR analysis, primarily bacause of actual differences in water vapor and cloud features. The signature of PW$_{sfc}$ was different from OLR for the TP.

  • In this paper, we propose adaptive despreading receiver for multi-code PW-CDMA system with binary-level clipping. The distortion due to clipping the multi-level signal causes the performance degradation. Adaptive despreading alleviates the effect of clipping. It is shown that the proposed adaptive despreading receiver achieves smaller BER than conventional despreading receiver for multi-code PW-CDMA system with binary-level clipping.

Characterization of Anti-Complementary Polysaccharides Isolated from Fruit Wine Using Korean Pears (배를 이용한 과실주로부터 분리한 항보체 활성화 다당의 특성)

  • To characterize the polysaccharides which exist as soluble forms in Korean traditional alcoholic beverages, the polysaccharides were isolated from Korean pear wine and their anti-complementary activities were examined. The main polysaccharide, PW-1 was purified to homogeneity from the crude polysaccharide (PW-0) in pear wine by size exclusion chromatography using Sephadex G-75. Molecular mass of PW-1 was estimated to be 150 kDa and it contained significant proportion of mannose (81.8%) and 5 different minor component sugars such as arabinose (1.2%), galactose (2.7%), glucose (8.5%), galacturonic acid (5.3%) and glucuronic acid (0.5%). These analyses indicated that the main polysaccharide in pear wine was mainly present as a mannan which had originated from the cell walls of fermenting yeasts. On the other hand, PW-1 showed potent anti-complementary activity in a dose-dependent fashion. Identification of C3 activation products by the crossed immunoelectrophoresis using anti-human C3 and anti-complementary activity of PW-1 in $Ca^{++}$-free condition suggested complement activations by PW-1 from Korean pear wine occur via both classical and alternative pathways.

Alkylation of Isobutane with 1-Butene over Heteropoly Acid Catalysts (헤테로폴리산 촉매상에서 1-부텐에 의한 i-부탄의 알킬화반응)

  • Liquid or gas phase alkylation of isobutane with 1-butene for i-octane production was carried out over Cs- or $NH_4$-exchanged $H_3PW_{12}O_{40}$. Pretreatment temperature of the catalyst played an important role on the catalytic activity of heteropoly acids in the liquid phase alkylation. Cation-exchanged $H_3PW_{12}O_{40}$ showed a better total yield and i-octane selectivity than the mother acid in the liquid phase alkylation, and $(NH_4)_{2.5}H_{0.5}PW_{12}O_{40}$ was more efficient than $Cs_{2.5}H_{0.5}PW_{12}O_{40}$ in terms of i-octane selectivity. It was found that the acidic property (deactivation of acid sites) of the catalyst was closely related to the catalytic activity of Cs- or $NH_4$-exchanged $H_3PW_{12}O_{40}$ in the gas phase alkylation. $C_5-C_7$ were mainly formed in the early stage of gas phase alkylation due to the strong acidic property of the catalyst, whereas $C_8$ and $+C_9$ were mainly produced as the reaction proceeded due to the deactivation of acid sites. $Cs_{2.5}H_{0.5}PW_{12}O_{40}$ showed the highest total yield in the gas phase alkylation among the catalysts examined.
