Background: The objective responses of cisplatin and etoposide (PVP) combination chemotherapy as second-line therapy following CAV was high (40~50%) and, in several reports, PVP yields survival results that are at least as good as those obtained with cyclophosphamide or doxorubicin-based regimens and with less host-related toxicity in chemotherapy-naive patients. We conducted a phase II study to evaluate the effect of a combination of cisplatin and etoposide as a fitst-line therapy in patients with small cell lung cancer. Methods: Sixty-one previously untreated small cell lung cancer patients with measurable lesion (s) received cisplatin(30 $mg/m^2$ IV, day 1~3) and etoposide(100 $mg/m^2$ IV, day 1~3). In patients with limited disease, after completion of 6 cycles of PVP chemotherapy, chest and prophylatic brain irradiation was performed in case of complete responder, chest irradiation on1y in partial responder. Results: 1) Of 55 evaluable patients, 13(24%) had a complete response and 29(53%) had a partial response. 2) The median survival time was 55.8 weeks for all patients(N=55), 61.1 weeks for limited disease(N=31), 51.3 weeks for extensive disease(N=24). 3) The response duration was 29.1 weeks for responders(N=42). 4) There was no significant prognostic factors influencing response rates. 5) The toxicity was tolerable and there was no treatment-related deaths. Conclusion: The PVP combination chemotherapy as a first-line therapy was effective and well-tolerated in patients with small cell lung cancer.

We report on the fabrication of P3HT-based thin-film transistors (TFTs) for liquid crystal display that consist of $NiO_x$, poly-vinyl phenol (PVP), and Ni for the source-drain (S/D) electrodes, gate dielectric layer, and gate electrode, respectively The $NiO_x$ S/D electrodes of which the work function is well matched to that of P3HT are deposited on a P3HT channel by electron-beam evaporation of NiO powder. The maximum saturation current of our P3HT-based TFT is about $15{\mu}A$ at a gate bias of -30 V showing a high field effect mobility of $0.079cm^2/Vs$ in the dark, and the on/off current ratio of our TFT is about $10^5$. It is concluded that jointly adopting $NiO_x$ for the S/D electrodes and PVP for gate dielectric realizes a high-quality P3HT-based TFT.
Olmesartan affiliated to biopharmaceutics classification system class 2 is a poorly water soluble drug. For this reason, olmesartan showed a low bioavailability and a lot of difficulties in the process of designing the pharmaceutical formulation. We prepared the solid dispersions of olmesartan. We confirmed the dissolution rate of drug which was prepared by manufacturing. The pharmaceutical formulation of solid dispersions was designed by using PVP as water soluble polymer. We analyzed morphological feature of solid dispersion by employing a scanning electron microscope. Then, the crystalline property of solid dispersion was confirmed through X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimeter. Also, the chemical change of solid dispersion was confirmed by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In vitro dissolution test was used to analyze the dissolution rate of solid dispersion. The prepared solid dissolution olmesartan confirmed the dissolution rate in the pH 1.2. It was compared with olmetec and improved dissolution rate through solid dispersion.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of green tea extracts (GTE) on the fermentation properties of polyphenol-enriched beers. As such, the formation patterns of tannoid in beer with GTE were investigated at 3 different infusion times, while the ale and the lager beers fortified with GTE were analyze to ascertain effects on gravity, pH, yeast viability, total polyphenol, and tannoid during fermentation period. The results were as follows: 1) The formation of tannoid in beer with GTE in the tannometer; In reaction of GTE with polyvinylpyrrolidon (PVP), control lager beer peaked in the formation of tannoid at $70\;{\sim}\;80\;mg$ of PVP, the 1st extract exceeded the detection limit, the 2nd extract at $170\;{\sim}\;180\;mg$, while the third extract at $150\;{\sim}\;160\;mg$ of PVP. The GTE were slow in reacting with PVP, and their formation patterns were different from those of polyphenols from barley and hop. 2) Ale fermentation; The final alcohol content was 9.25% (ABV). The addition of GTE increased the yeast viability after 2 days and finally reached 52.3% from 30.9%. Total polyphenol in GTE beer increased by 1.5 times (p < .05). However, its tannoid contents increased by 6.4 times. 3) Lager fermentation; The final alcohol content was 5.93% (ABV). The effect of GTE on lager beer was minimal for all variables. However, total polyphenol of GTE beer increased by 1.4 times (p < .05). Its tannoid increased by 3.3 times (p < .05).

The organic-inorganic thin film transistors (OITFTs) with ZnO channel layer and the cross-linked PVP (Poly-4-vinylphenol) gate insulator were fabricated on the patterned ITO gate/glass substrate. ZnO channel layer was deposited by using atomic layer deposition (ALD). In order to improve the electrical properties, $O_2$ plasma treatment onto PVP film was introduced and investigated the effect of the plasma treatments on the electrical properties of the OITFTs. The field effect mobility and sub-threshold slope (SS) values of the OITFT decreased slightly from 0.24 to 0.16 $cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ and from 9.7 to 9.2 V/dec, respectively with increasing RF power from 30 to 50 Watt. The $I_{on/off}$ ratio was about $10^3$ for all samples with $O_2$ plasma treatment.

This is the first study to establish a complete protocol for micropropagation of Rehmannia glutinosa from root segments. The study involved investigating the effect of plant growth regulators on in vitro shoot regeneration and rooting and identifying substrates supporting survival and growth performance of ex vitro seedlings. A Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing 30 g/L sucrose for shoot induction and 0.2 mg/L indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), 1 mg/L 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), and 1 g/L polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) for shoot multiplication resulted in the highest number of shoots per explant and shoot height. Applying a medium containing 0.5 mg/L IAA and 1 g/L PVP yielded optimal rooting of the shoots grown in vitro. Compost enriched with microbial inoculants and perlite enhanced seedling growth better than that with organic biofertilizer-free substrates (soil and sand). We recommend the continuous production of micropropagated R. glutinosa seedlings from root segments under the aforementioned conditions as a possible propagation technique for crops of this species.
Various bupivacaine-Ioaded microspheres were prepared with poly (d,l-Iactide) (PLA) by solvent extraction method. The internal solution of polymer(PLA R104) and drug in glacial acetic acid was introduced into the external phase of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP K-30) in polyethyleneglycol (PEG), and emulsified to be an oil-in-oil (o/o) emulsion. The o/o emulsion was poured to the buffer solution. (omitted)

Objective : Although several commercialized bone cements are used during percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) for patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF), there are no reports using domestic products from South Korea. In this study, we investigated the safety and efficacy of Spinofill® (Injecta Inc., Gunpo, Korea), a new polymethyl methacrylate product. Methods : A prospective, single-center, and single-arm clinical trial of 30 participants who underwent PVP using Spinofill® for painful thoracolumbar OVCF was performed with 6-months follow-up. Clinical and surgical outcomes included the Visual analog scale (VAS), Korean-Oswestry disability index (K-ODI), and Odom's criteria, complication rate, and recurrence rate. Radiological outcomes were evaluated by measuring the findings of postoperative computed tomography and simple radiograph. Results : The pain of VAS (from 8.95±1.05 to 4.65±2.06, p<0.001) and the life quality based on K-ODI (from 33.95±5.84 to 25.65±4.79, p<0.001) improved significantly, and successful patient satisfaction were achieved in 20 patients (66.7%) 1 day after surgery. These immediate improvements were maintained or more improved during the follow-up. There was no surgery- or product-related complications, but OVCF recurred in two patients (6.7%). Favorable cement interdigitation was reported in 24 patients (80.0%), and extra-vertebral cement leakage was reported in 13 patients (43.0%). The mean vertebral height ratio (from 60.49%±21.97% to 80.07%±13.16%, p<0.001) and segmental kyphotic angle (from 11.46°±8.50° to 7.79°±6.08°, p=0.002) improved one day after surgery. However, these short-term radiological findings somewhat regressed at the end. Conclusion : The overall outcomes of PVP using Spinofill® were as favorable as those of other conventionally used products.
Damaged spermatozoa are supposed to be trapped in glass wool. In the respect of this, two glass wool filtration spermatozoa groups (0.5 cm, 1 cm depth) were compared with control group to assay sperm motility, HOS values, and vital rate by CFDA/PI staining method following glass wool filtration. The motility of canine sperm extended with PBS+PVP after glass wool filtration was lower in both filtrated groups than that of the control group (p<0.01) and the same significant difference was also shown in canine semen extended with Tris buffer (p<0.01). The motility of canine sperm diluted with PBS+PVP was higher than that diluted with Tris buffer in the same experimental groups (p<0.05). The motility of control group was not significantly decreased until 2 hours immediately after extending, however, the motility of both glass wool filtrated spermatozoa were significantly decreased as time passed until 2 hours after filtration (p<0.01). At each time for assay (immediately, 30 min, 2 hours after filtration), the motility of canine sperm of control group was higher than the filtrated groups (p<0.05), whereas the motility of 0.5 cm depth group was higher than 1 cm depth group at the immediate time after filtration (p<0.05), 30 minutes later (p<0.05) with no difference at 2 hours. No difference was shown among the experimental groups in HOS values of canine sperm after glass wool filtration. The vital rate assayed by CFDA/PI staining of both filter groups was higher than the control group (p<0.05).
The objective of this study was to develop a pH dependent oral matrix tablet containing probiotics. In this study, hydroxyl-propyl-methyl-cellulose (HPMC) and polyvinyl pyrrolidone K30 (PVP K-30) was utilized as a binder, sodium starch glycolate (SSG) was used as a disintegrant material for the tablet formulation. The disintegration test, hardness test, angle of response were performed to examine the characteristics of prepared tablet. Lactobacillus vitality test was applied to analyze the total Lactobacillus viable count. The results demonstrated that the pH dependent matrix tablet was prepared successfully and can thus be industrialized instead of the current methodologies used for preparation of conventional probiotics.
